Summary

This second entry in USA Today bestselling author Debra Webb’s Devlin & Falco series proves that sometimes the past is best left forgotten。

As veteran detectives of the Birmingham Police Department, Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco have seen it all。 So when the city’s new hotshot deputy district attorney turns up dead as part of a double homicide, the partners immediately get to work。

But this is no ordinary case。 Devlin and Falco quickly link the murdered DDA to one of their own: former BPD detective Sadie Cross。 But Sadie’s fractured memory is yet another puzzle to decipher, as she only recalls bits and pieces of her violent past…a past that may hold clues to the motive behind the murders。

As the group slowly begins to unearth the truth, they soon discover that the more secrets are revealed, the more fatal the consequences。

A dead DDA …drug cartel hit or random? While this story was good, it was not great and seemed to drag until the last 15 chapters。 Detectives Devlin & Falco are investigating the murders of a DDA and a bar owner and the only person who can help is a former undercover agent with memory loss from an op gone horribly wrong。 Meanwhile, Devlin is dealing with her daughter’s involvement in the death of a classmate。 Good HFN ending。

This is the second in the Devlin and Falco series, and I have to admit up front that I haven’t read the first one, but I don’t think it mattered all that much。 The author does a good job of setting the scene, introducing Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco as a pair of detectives in Birmingham, Alabama, on a squad called in to investigate crimes of a significant and sensitive nature。 The murder of a deputy district attorney definitely qualifies, but when it starts to become clear drugs are involved, the This is the second in the Devlin and Falco series, and I have to admit up front that I haven’t read the first one, but I don’t think it mattered all that much。 The author does a good job of setting the scene, introducing Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco as a pair of detectives in Birmingham, Alabama, on a squad called in to investigate crimes of a significant and sensitive nature。 The murder of a deputy district attorney definitely qualifies, but when it starts to become clear drugs are involved, the DEA quickly take over the case and Devlin and Falco are sidelined。This isn’t such a bad thing, as Kerri Devlin is quickly distracted by a personal tragedy unfolding, when a friend of her daughter’s suffers a terrible fall at school and Kerri’s daughter is suspected of being involved。 I admit I spotted the ‘big twist’ about Alice’s true identity almost the first moment it was brought up, but we had to wait to discover it when former undercover agent Sadie Cross gets a look at Alice。Honestly, this is more the Devlin and Cross series, at least from this book。 Scenes are pretty much exclusively from either Devlin or Cross’s perspective, with the occasional one thrown in from Devlin’s daughter。 I don’t think we really got a look at Falco’s POV at all; he’s relegated to being a nice, supportive sidekick, which from reviews, I don’t think was the case in the first book, so if you’re a big Falco fan after that one, you might feel a bit let down here。I actually really enjoyed it, however。 I liked Devlin, I particularly liked Sadie Cross, and I’d definitely be interested in reading more in this series。 Five stars for a good read。Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this title via NetGalley。 。。。more

Everything Keeps Going Wrong! Couldn't Stop!Definitely 4。5 Stars! Even better than Book 1。This book surprised me with its deep and complex storyline filled with striking, well-developed characters, filled with mysterious secrets of their own。 Thought I'd take a few days to enjoy, but the Delvin-Falco detective pair were back big-time to get to the bottom of a double homicide amid too many questions and dangers everywhere。 Couldn't put the tense murder investigations down until the last page。 Not Everything Keeps Going Wrong! Entertaining and enthralling!Liked having Sadie Cross back with her anti-hero character, as a strong force, bringing a darker and hidden side to the plotline as her past and connections create many troubles and complications。 Strong characters, dialogue, twisted plot surprises, and vivid descriptions make this reading journey unforgettable and compelling。 Although both series books are solid stand-alone reads, together the make a better reading experience。 I've already preordered Book 3。Helping me on my reading adventure was Audible's narration that added crisp personality dimensions。 I admit to increasing the narration speed to match my preferred reading speed, something that magnifies the story's already fast-paced tensions。 A most satisfying and exciting read! 。。。more

In this second of the series, we return to the city of Birmingham, AL and the lives of Major Investigations Division Detectives Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco。 Devlin and Falco have just landed a double homicide at a tobacco shop and bar where the owner, Leo Kurtz, and the new DDA (Deputy District Attorney) Asher Walsh have been bound and executed。 There is no apparent connection to the two so they have their work cut out for them。 Then before they get started good, the DEA steps in and takes lead In this second of the series, we return to the city of Birmingham, AL and the lives of Major Investigations Division Detectives Kerri Devlin and Luke Falco。 Devlin and Falco have just landed a double homicide at a tobacco shop and bar where the owner, Leo Kurtz, and the new DDA (Deputy District Attorney) Asher Walsh have been bound and executed。 There is no apparent connection to the two so they have their work cut out for them。 Then before they get started good, the DEA steps in and takes lead on the case。 Apparently Walsh has been investigating a major Cartel drug ring with ties in the city。 Life has been tough on Kerri's family over the last year since her niece was murdered。 Things become worse when her daughter is tied in some way to an accident at school where another student fell down the stairs in front of Tori and two friends。 Accident or was she pushed? Sadie Cross, a former detective dealing with lost memory issues while working undercover, is a now PI, was friends with Asher and is interested in helping Devlin and Falco find his killer。 This is another story where those with power and money feel above the law。 The question is who is behind everything? The author does a great job with the mystery and tying the story together as in fitting pieces of a puzzle together with some surprise components。 I am enjoying this series!I received a complimentary ARC from Thomas & Mercer through NetGalley。 All thoughts are mine only。 。。。more

Debra Webb's second installment of the Devlin and Falco series does not disappoint。 Although it is not a continuation story from the first one, it does lay the groundwork of the characters that are in this book。 You do not need to read the first to enjoy the second, but it gives further in depth information about the lead characters of Detective Devlin and Falco。 We were also introduced to Sadie Cross here as well。 The book opens with a double homicide with Deputy District Attorney Asher and bar Debra Webb's second installment of the Devlin and Falco series does not disappoint。 Although it is not a continuation story from the first one, it does lay the groundwork of the characters that are in this book。 You do not need to read the first to enjoy the second, but it gives further in depth information about the lead characters of Detective Devlin and Falco。 We were also introduced to Sadie Cross here as well。 The book opens with a double homicide with Deputy District Attorney Asher and bar owner Leo。 A side story of Devlin's daughter Tori who has an incident at school which causes Devlin to be distracted and Falco to take over most of the murder investigation。 Sadie Cross helps with this investigation because of her ties to the dead DDA despite her lack of memories from a previous incident from her past。 She becomes integral in solving this case, and her relationship with Devlin and Falco becomes more solid in spite of her self isolation。 The many secrets and twists that carry this story make you want to turn the page at record speed to find not just the killer(s),but why the murders were carried out to begin with。In true Debra Webb fashion, she engages the reader to a whodunit that draws you in with slow steady pacing and characters that make you care what happens。 It is a must read for the everyone who likes a good thriller with heart。#GONETOOFAR #NETGALLEY 。。。more

The book starts with a double murder。 In the middle of the investigation Det Kerri Devlin is called away to her daughters school。 There has been an incident with another student。 The further they get into the investigation the more questions they have。 This is a page turner with lots of twists and turns。 This book is part of a series but could easily stand alone。 Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy。
