Summary

Two childhood friends discover that love - and family - can be found in unconventional ways in this timely, moving novel from the 'USA Today' best-selling author of the Peachtree Bluff series。

Amelia Buxton, a dedicated journalist and a recent divorcée, never expected that uncovering the biggest story of her career would become deeply personal。 But when she discovers that a cluster of embryos belonging to her childhood friend Parker and his late wife Greer have been deemed “abandoned,” she’s put in the unenviable position of telling Parker - and dredging up old wounds in the process。

Parker has been unable to move forward since the loss of his beloved wife three years ago。 He has all but forgotten about the frozen embryos, but once Amelia reveals her discovery, he knows that if he ever wants to get a part of Greer back, he’ll need to accept his fate as a single father and find a surrogate。

Each dealing with their own private griefs, Parker and Amelia slowly begin to find solace in one another as they navigate an uncertain future against the backdrop of the pristine waters of their childhood home, Cape Carolina。 The journey of self-discovery leads them to an unforgettable and life-changing lesson: Family - the one you’re born into and the one you choose - is always closer than you think。

Admittedly, I had not heard of Kristy Woodson Harvey until I joined the Friends & Fiction Facebook Group。 Nothing is a coincidence, I believe, so when Kristy's book, Under The Southern Sky, released, I wanted to support her by purchasing her book。 Other readers began raving about Under The Southern Sky, which piqued my interest, so I delved in, promising myself I could abandon the book after 50 pages if I didn't like it。Well, I am here to tell you: I was sucked in immediately。 Kristy is a talent Admittedly, I had not heard of Kristy Woodson Harvey until I joined the Friends & Fiction Facebook Group。 Nothing is a coincidence, I believe, so when Kristy's book, Under The Southern Sky, released, I wanted to support her by purchasing her book。 Other readers began raving about Under The Southern Sky, which piqued my interest, so I delved in, promising myself I could abandon the book after 50 pages if I didn't like it。Well, I am here to tell you: I was sucked in immediately。 Kristy is a talented writer, and she transported me to Palm Beach, Cape Carolina, and New York, while making me care about the fate of the characters。 This is a love story - yes, a romantic one - but also about the love of family, place, and legacy。 If you haven't read any of Kristy's books, please check out Under The Southern Sky and be prepared to be swept away like a riptide along the Carolina coast。 。。。more

I received an advanced readers copy & I loved it! KWH is one of my new favorite authors。 I took it to the beach and couldn’t put it down, now I’m sun burned。 I enjoyed the complete journey of Parker & Amelia and I think others will as well。

I found your lay by the pool & read book for summer 2021! The characters will force you to love them and root for them。 It may be a little predictable but sometimes you want a story to turn out how you hoped it would。 Life can be messy but it can also be happy!

The first beach read for 2021 and it didn't let me down! I really enjoyed this story of the girl next door and the dorky boy who has always loved her。 A lot of life happens in between them being together but it's a fun journey to go on。 Family is who we make it。。。it's also complicated, messy, and lovely。 The first beach read for 2021 and it didn't let me down! Poignant, hopeful, and romantic!Under the Southern Sky is a beautifully written, heartfelt tale set predominantly in the small-town of Cape Carolina that takes us into the lives of Amelia Saxton, a young journalist struggling to come to grips with a recent separation and an important discovery she inadvertently stumbles across involving her childhood friend, and Parker Thaysden, a young widower who is still grappling with the loss of his wife and the all-consuming grief that is preventing him fr Poignant, hopeful, and romantic!Under the Southern Sky is a beautifully written, heartfelt tale set predominantly in the small-town of Cape Carolina that takes us into the lives of Amelia Saxton, a young journalist struggling to come to grips with a recent separation and an important discovery she inadvertently stumbles across involving her childhood friend, and Parker Thaysden, a young widower who is still grappling with the loss of his wife and the all-consuming grief that is preventing him from moving on。The prose is smooth and genuine。 The characters are scarred, hesitant, and sympathetic。 And the plot is an addictive, alluring mix of friendship, family, introspection, support, forgiveness, love, loss, drama, selflessness, community, new beginnings, and the power of love。Under the Southern Sky was one of my most anticipated reads of 2021, and it did not disappoint。 Once again, Kristy Woodson Harvey has written a charming, absorbing, moving tale that has an abundance of irresistible characters and a storyline I couldn’t get enough of, and it is without a doubt the perfect choice for summer!Thank you to BookSparks and Kristy Woodson Harvey for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

4。5/5 starsI've wanted to read this book since the Facebook Group, The Friends & Fiction Book Club started during the first lockdown (we are on #3 at the moment)。 Five authors who get together to chat books with guest authors。 I was familiar with some of the authors but those I wasn't, I wanted to read。 Which brings me to Kristy Woodson Harvey。Under the Southern Sky recently released and my big question was was this going to live up to all the hype I've seen on social media。 The answer for me is 4。5/5 starsI've wanted to read this book since the Facebook Group, The Friends & Fiction Book Club started during the first lockdown (we are on #3 at the moment)。 Five authors who get together to chat books with guest authors。 I was familiar with some of the authors but those I wasn't, I wanted to read。 Which brings me to Kristy Woodson Harvey。Under the Southern Sky recently released and my big question was was this going to live up to all the hype I've seen on social media。 The answer for me is a resounding yes it did。 I did a combination read and audiobook。 I recommend both。 With 2 major POVs and 2 smaller parts, the audio had a different voice for each one - I love that。 It sets the tone and gives each character a voice that matched their personality。 The story was unique with characters that were authentic。 It had a nice balance between a lighter tone and then more serious for the emotional parts。 There are some serious topics - grief and fertility, both of which were handled with respect and heart。Under the Southern Sky is a story of love and loss, family and friends, and self discovery。 Definitely one I recommend。 。。。more

Kristy Woodson Harvey has become one of my favorite Southern Fiction Authors。 I loved her first book and each one just gets better! I can’t wait for the next one。 The storyline and characters are so believable that I looked forward to picking up the book each day to see what was happening。

Outstanding! What do you do when life throws you curve balls? When they come at age 14, age 35, and the hits keep coming? Amelia can answer those questions in this amazing novel from Kristi Woodson Harvey。 Set in the sunny south and New York City, Under the Southern Sky provides thought provoking scenarios about loves and relationships that last and stand the test of time and the trials that come our way。

Absolutely LOVED this book! So many feelings throughout。 I fell in love with the characters, their families, their hardships, and happiness。 I was so sad when it ended。 My husband even kept asking, “what did she end up doing?”。 Highly recommend! 💜

There is a reason that Kirsty Woodson Harvey’s UNDER THE SOUTHERN SKY is on so many “Most Anticipated” lists。 With every novel, Harvey’s writing and storytelling keeps getting better。 UNDER THE SOUTHERN SKY will give you all the feels: from joy to sadness, heartbreak to hope, as you follow Amelia and Parker as they navigate their relationship with each other and their families and try to find what their futures hold。 Harvey also explores the question of what makes a family: Is it the family you There is a reason that Kirsty Woodson Harvey’s UNDER THE SOUTHERN SKY is on so many “Most Anticipated” lists。 With every novel, Harvey’s writing and storytelling keeps getting better。 UNDER THE SOUTHERN SKY will give you all the feels: from joy to sadness, heartbreak to hope, as you follow Amelia and Parker as they navigate their relationship with each other and their families and try to find what their futures hold。 Harvey also explores the question of what makes a family: Is it the family you were born into or the family you create, the family of your heart?Amelia and Payton grew up next door to each other, their mothers are lifelong best friends。 When Amelia’s seemingly perfect life falls apart, she heads home to Cape Carolina, but only after dropping a bombshell on Payton, who’s reeling since the death of his wife three years ago。 He also decides a change of locale would be good and heads home, where visiting their families and a different pace, help the friends connect, again, and leads to some interesting decisions。Told from alternating viewpoints: Amelia, Parker, Greer’s journal entries (Parker’s dead wife), and Elizabeth (Amelia’s mom), we get a story of love, family, secrets, and family secrets in a beautiful Southern backdrop in the uniquely Southern way that Harvey is perfecting because, well, she is Southern and is writing what she knows。 If you get a chance to hear her talk about this novel, take it (or google some of her interviews)。Harvey has created a story that will fascinate you with its deep subject matter and keep you enthralled from beginning to end, with characters that will touch your heart and have you, both anxiously turning pages and trying to stop reading so quickly because you do not want it to end。 I loved the cast of characters, especially Aunt Tilly。 Grab a glass of sweet tea (with a little extra), find a cozy spot on your porch or patio, and settle into this one。 You won’t want to miss it!Thank you to the publisher for an advanced reader’s copy of this novel that gave me a chance to read it before my preorder arrived。 All opinions are my own and freely given。#UndertheSouthernSky #KristyWoodson #GalleryBooks #TallPoppyWriters #BloomReads #TallPoppyBlogger #SouthernFiction 。。。more

Kristy Woodson Harvey is one of my absolute favorite authors! She is the sweetest thing and I just adore her books。 I mean is it even spring time without a KWH book? No—no it is not! Every spring I look forward to one of her new books and this year was no exception! Her books always have so much heart, charm, and general warm fuzzies!Even the covers, I take one look at the covers and I can almost feel the soft sea breeze and sun on my skin。 When I received the ARC of this one, it was early fall Kristy Woodson Harvey is one of my absolute favorite authors! I read it quickly (a couple of days!) and couldn’t put it down。 Every time I finish one of her books I am always left thinking that there is no way she can top that book and then a year later as I start another one of her books—-she somehow does just that! One of the things that I love about KWH’s books is that she always seems to strike the perfect balance between emotional and fun。 Fertility and grief are difficult issues to tackle and often heavy。 But what KWH does in this book makes it something beautiful and real with the right amount of heart, emotion, and love。 I really enjoyed reading this one because of how warm the story was without being cliche。 It was so great。My favorite thing about the story was growing to love both Parker and Amelia。 They both had their own independent issues and were each facing grief but yet were able to find comfort in one another。 Sometimes that troupe doesn’t always work for me。 It’s a tricky one because both are coming from serious relationships and life issues, having them come together in a romantic way or even in a platonic way can be difficult。 I know that I have read books with this troupe before and it’s not always done well—-but KWH does it WELL。 In this one we grow with Parker and Amelia and we grow into their feelings。 It doesn’t feel rushed or insensitive。 Both of them are very real characters and their struggles play out throughout the book in a believable fashion。 I just adored this one。The life lessons and heart in this one just made it such a great read and while it might have some heavy content, I read it super fast and loved my time with Parker and Amelia。 I can’t say enough great things about this book。 I don’t want to giveaway too much but just go and order it, you will not regret it。 KWH has so much skill for creating real women characters and stories with heart, emotion, and yet they still manage not to feel oppressive or heavy。 If you have read KWH’s other books you will know that this is like her signature storytelling style。 If you are new to her books, this is a great one to start with and then you should immediately move to the Peachtree Bluff series which is just as good! I cannot wait for another novel from KWH! She is literally the best women’s fiction writer and and auto buy author for me! It’s on a ton of ‘most anticipated’ lists for a reason。 It’s wonderful and I can’t rave about it enough!See my full review here 。。。more

Good information concerning IVF and infertility。 The emotions that go along with the medical treatment are described in this story。 It is a story about childhood friends who grew up in the south。 The characters are described so you can see and know them as you read their story。 The two southern mothers are typical southern loving mothers and friends who love their families, homes and community。 This is an excellent beach read。 You will enjoy。
