Summary

Jennie Allen challenges Christian women to transform their outlook and their lives by interrupting their spiraling thoughts and realizing their God-given power to think differently。

One of the greatest spiritual battles of our generation is taking place between our ears。 How we think shapes how we live。 So it's crucial that we learn how to stop our spinning thoughts and refuse to fall prey to toxic thinking patterns like victimhood, anxiety, and distraction。 In this book Jennie draws on biblical truth and recent discoveries in neuroscience to show exactly how we can fight the enemies of the mind with the truth of who God is and who He calls us to be。

This was a fantastic read。 It went in a different direction than I thought。 And that direction made me love it even more。 It strengthened my faith and my resolve to focus more on Heavenly Father instead of me。

LOL started and finished this in a day because I simply couldn’t imagine having to listen to this for more than a day。 If you are super in to Jesus, this is up your alley。 If you’re not, run。

There are many good points but my attention span couldn't handle this book。 I found myself always drifting off when she was in the middle of an explanation。 I made it about 1/3 of the way through。 There are many good points but my attention span couldn't handle this book。 I found myself always drifting off when she was in the middle of an explanation。 I made it about 1/3 of the way through。 。。。more

This was a little different than I was expecting。 I love psychology books, how and why people think the way they do; but this one was more Christian based and had Jesus at the center on everything。 I loved this perspective。 I also loved the perspective of someone who is a Christian but not the same religion as I am。 I listened to it so I can’t write my fav quotes but here are a few summaries。-we are all going to feel emotions。 We can’t just say I will never feel anger, or I will never feel sadne This was a little different than I was expecting。 I love psychology books, how and why people think the way they do; but this one was more Christian based and had Jesus at the center on everything。 I loved this perspective。 I also loved the perspective of someone who is a Christian but not the same religion as I am。 I listened to it so I can’t write my fav quotes but here are a few summaries。-we are all going to feel emotions。 We can’t just say I will never feel anger, or I will never feel sadness。 Because we will。 BUT we have a choice what to do next。 Her advice is to acknowledge the emotion and then add “so I choose to。。。。” and choose good, choose what God would tell you to do。 For example: I am feeling frustrated because it feels like no one cares。。。so I choose to focus on doing what God wants me to do, keep doing the things that are important, keep loving, keep trying m, because God cares and Jesus cares and that is all I need。 -gratitude。 It always helps。 -don’t let negative thoughts take over。 Shift your mind by choosing what to do with your emotions before you start spiraling-she also makes very clear that mental illness is real and medication and therapy is important and to recognize that some might need more help than reading a book:) 。。。more

If you're looking in to this book my guess is you're already at your wits end, you may even doubt the need for this book, assuming its another self help guru trying to sell you the magic fix like the dozen before you've read。 This book is not a typical self help book。 Jennie Allen challenges readers to fight the battle against toxic thoughts with an approach that is deeply personal, yet not intimidating at all。 Allen writes in a way that while reading you feel as though you are talking to a friend; She gently leads readers exactly where we need to be, showing us what we need to see, a combination of Bible verses mixed with science which feeds your spirit while satisfying any logical part of your brain that needs hard evidence。 Her message is clear right from the start。 WE CAN CHANGE。I love that the beginning of the book states very clearly that mental health struggles are very real for some and require counseling or medicine and there is nothing wrong with that she tells us。 God wants us to use the resources we have if we need to。 Far too many books fail to touch on the subject at all so that statement and her experience with mental health was a very welcome breath of fresh air。 This book is necessary。 Vital and powerful, inspirational and comforting。 Do not miss this one!I will note that I highly suggest buying a physical copy of this particular book as the format does not come through as strong in the ebook version, which is what I received from netgalley and the publishers in order for me to share my honest thoughts with you。 Even with the minor issues of the ebook being not an ideal way to absorb this particular book I will still be buying several copies to be gifted to friends and family whom I know need this book just as much as I did 。。。more

Another recommended read from a good friend。 A quick read- simple and true。 Felt like a women’s conference talk with a lot of head nods and “amen’s”。 Not the most profound or deep, but sincere。

Probably not。 It’s not a terrible or regrettable read by any means, but with so many other Christian non-fiction books that are far more life-changing, I’d say get one of those instead。 。。。more

Based on the title, I was super excited to read this book and learn from it。 I gave it two stars because while I did glean a bit, there were statements made that were definitely unhealthy thinking strategies suggested。 It was also very girlfriend-y which came off disingenuous。 Overall, I felt like it had great potential and just really fell through。

Excellent, must read book! I borrowed this book from the library but I want to buy it so I can take notes in the margin。 So many points worthy to be underlined。 Life changing。 You won’t be disappointed。

I'll dove into this book without reading anything about it and regretted it。 I will summarize this book for you。 'Get all those bad thoughts out of your head with you faith in God。' Since I am not a Christian and I was hoping for more of a self-help book I was really disappointed。 If you're religiously Christian then you will enjoy this book, but if you like me and not religious then you'll be wasting you time with this one。 I'll dove into this book without reading anything about it and regretted it。 I will summarize this book for you。 'Get all those bad thoughts out of your head with you faith in God。' Since I am not a Christian and I was hoping for more of a self-help book I was really disappointed。 If you're religiously Christian then you will enjoy this book, but if you like me and not religious then you'll be wasting you time with this one。 。。。more

I am all about learning and growing, so when a book comes along that peeks my interest, I go all in。Here are a few statements that stuck with me。 Even though I am aware of the following, it’s always great to be reminded。-- I have a choice。-- I have control of my thoughts。-- Pull your thoughts out of your head and replace them with what is true。 The following statement got me thinking, because it’s something that I’ve never done before。 Seems like it will be hard to do。 If you apply it to your li I am all about learning and growing, so when a book comes along that peeks my interest, I go all in。Here are a few statements that stuck with me。 Even though I am aware of the following, it’s always great to be reminded。-- I have a choice。-- I have control of my thoughts。-- Pull your thoughts out of your head and replace them with what is true。 The following statement got me thinking, because it’s something that I’ve never done before。 Seems like it will be hard to do。 If you apply it to your life, then it will become natural to you。-- Think about what your thinking about。 。。。more

really good read to focus on how to shift negative thoughts into positive/Christ centered thoughts。 Although it took me a while to read, because I was reading it as part of my devotion (so little at a time) and it’s sometimes hard for me to get into self-help books, I would forsure recommend this book!

I did not know who Jennie Allen is, but was curious about the title。 While I respect Allen's passion for her Christian ministry, I found this book tedious to read at times。 Her family is important to her, of course, but I would have appreciated more anecdotes like those of astronaut Shane Kimbrough, who is a more "public" figure。 Reminders like "You have a choice," and "Surrender。 And obey," are indeed significant, as is scripture。 However, Allen became like someone she warned about in her book: I did not know who Jennie Allen is, but was curious about the title。 While I respect Allen's passion for her Christian ministry, I found this book tedious to read at times。 Her family is important to her, of course, but I would have appreciated more anecdotes like those of astronaut Shane Kimbrough, who is a more "public" figure。 Reminders like "You have a choice," and "Surrender。 And obey," are indeed significant, as is scripture。 However, Allen became like someone she warned about in her book: you go to that "friend" for help, and they basically quote scripture back at you。 。。。more

As someone who suffers with anxiety and finds herself spiraling a lot, I can’t believe this book has such high ratings。 It simply touches the surface of a HUGE body of water。 It is not relatable in the slightest。 If you are (or are not) religious, this won’t help with the spiraling thoughts instead you’ll be spiraling while trying to force yourself to get through it。 Try literally anything else。 This was a waste of time。

I did not finish this book。 It seemed like a helpful idea, but I lost interest when I started disagreeing with the premise。 Allen had an 18-month (what can only be describe as) crisis of faith in which she woke up every night at 3am struggling with belief in God。 But her conclusion about this experience was that she was just struggling with toxic and untrue thoughts。。。。wait, what?
