Summary

In a scorching novel of obsession and revenge, New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton ignites fear in the heart of a woman targeted by a killer who knows her secrets。

Forensic psychologist and single mother Ann Bailey has joined forces with Montana Highway Patrol officer Bryce McCabe。 An expert in untangling the motives of depraved minds, Ann is tasked to help solve the mystery of two murdered women doused with gasoline and set aflame。

It’s not hard for Ann to be reminded of the charismatic Elijah Weston, who served a decade in prison for arson—a crime that nearly cost Ann her life。 Elijah may have been exonerated, but the connection to these rage killings is impossible for Ann to ignore。 One of the victims has been identified as an obsessed Elijah groupie。 Elijah has obsessions, too。 Ever since Ann returned to town, he can’t take his eyes off her。 And as a mother with a secret, she’s the perfect victim for an infatuated psychopath。

The deeper Ann and Bryce’s investigation goes, the nearer they get to each other and to danger。 After another murder hits close to home, Ann fears a clue is hidden in her own past。 Only one thing terrifies her more than the reveal of her long-held secret。 It’s that the secret itself has put Ann into a killer’s line of fire。

Riveting story!Ann has a secret。。。someone knows that secret and is intent on getting revenge。 Forensic pathologist, Ann Bailey, is good at her job and she is intent on providing that Elijah Weston is guilty for the recent murders of two women。。。who had been doused in gasoline and burned。 But what if the real killer is closer than she thinks? Can Ann protect her sin from a killer who knows her secret? Riveting story and worth the read/listen。

What a good story。 Ann and Bryce were a great couple and it was a constant wonder who killed all those women and removed their faces。 Elijah was a curiosity as to whether he was involved but you'll have to read this if you want to find out for sure。No sex, just a few kisses and that was it。 The F-bomb was used 2 times。As for the narration: Melissa Moran was alright。 She still needs to practice her male voices more。 They were still a little too feminine but not horrible。 She's getting better。 What a good story。 Ann and Bryce were a great couple and it was a constant wonder who killed all those women and removed their faces。 Elijah was a curiosity as to whether he was involved but you'll have to read this if you want to find out for sure。No sex, just a few kisses and that was it。 The F-bomb was used 2 times。As for the narration: Melissa Moran was alright。 She still needs to practice her male voices more。 They were still a little too feminine but not horrible。 She's getting better。 。。。more

Forensic Psychologist Ann Bailey and Highway Patrol Officer Bryce McCabe are working on a case together。 Women have been killed and their bodies burned。 Elijah Watson has just been released after spending 10 years in prison after being wrongly convicted。 Ann is keeping a secret that could affect her and her young son。 The story is told from the viewpoint of the investigators and the killer。 There is plenty of suspense that held my interest but I did figure out the killers identity。 This is the 2 Forensic Psychologist Ann Bailey and Highway Patrol Officer Bryce McCabe are working on a case together。 Women have been killed and their bodies burned。 Elijah Watson has just been released after spending 10 years in prison after being wrongly convicted。 Ann is keeping a secret that could affect her and her young son。 The story is told from the viewpoint of the investigators and the killer。 There is plenty of suspense that held my interest but I did figure out the killers identity。 This is the 2nd book in a series but could be read as a stand alone。 Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy。 。。。more

Pretty good listen。 The Melissa Moran isn't my favorite narrator, but I have definitely heard worse。What it fell short in on narration was made up for in the story。 I was able to guess who it was about half way through, but it still held my attention。 The characters were likeable。I do wish I had known beforehand that ot was book 2 in a series。 Pretty good listen。 The Melissa Moran isn't my favorite narrator, but I have definitely heard worse。What it fell short in on narration was made up for in the story。 I was able to guess who it was about half way through, but it still held my attention。 The characters were likeable。I do wish I had known beforehand that ot was book 2 in a series。 。。。more

Huh?I have enjoyed Mary Burton novels in the past, and TBH, this doesn’t measure up to past books。 To start off with, everyone has just moved back into the area from somewhere else due to divorce, trauma, drama。 Sheriff talks like a hick, then educated dialog。 And the first encounter of Bryce seeing Ann come to a crime scene and his description of her that the author wrote, made me think I was into a more adult rated book。 Not that I mind that if you look at my reading history, but this book see Huh?I have enjoyed Mary Burton novels in the past, and TBH, this doesn’t measure up to past books。 To start off with, everyone has just moved back into the area from somewhere else due to divorce, trauma, drama。 Sheriff talks like a hick, then educated dialog。 And the first encounter of Bryce seeing Ann come to a crime scene and his description of her that the author wrote, made me think I was into a more adult rated book。 Not that I mind that if you look at my reading history, but this book seemed both juvenile and sexual adult, and it didn’t mesh。 Sadly, I didn’t finish the book。。。 。。。more

A good serial killer/police mystery-thriller that is well written。 Multiple points of view that were clearly defined and I have to say for the first time I guessed who the UNSUB was, but I think it was a lucky coincidence。 😀 There are lots of red herrings and twists。 This is book 2 in the series and as usual I haven't read the first one。 It stands alone re the story, but there are possible spoilers for "Burn You Twice", but not really any clear details giving away its plot, apart from the outcom A good serial killer/police mystery-thriller that is well written。 Multiple points of view that were clearly defined and I have to say for the first time I guessed who the UNSUB was, but I think it was a lucky coincidence。 😀 There are lots of red herrings and twists。 This is book 2 in the series and as usual I haven't read the first one。 It stands alone re the story, but there are possible spoilers for "Burn You Twice", but not really any clear details giving away its plot, apart from the outcome of its H/h being together。 The romance in "Near You" is thin on the ground and behind closed doors; blink and you miss it。 I didn't feel any real intimate connection between Ann and Bryce, but this wasn't really a full on romance, it was a murder mystery。 I'll be reading more from this author for sure。 。。。more

Three Stars Near You is the second book in the Montana series by Mary Burton。 Office Bryce McCabe receives a phone call from a fellow officer asking him to consult on a grisly murder in the mountains of Montana。 It is suspected that there is a serial killer on the loose when they discover the killing is similar to a recent case。 He asks for Dr。 Ann Bailey, an academic forensic psychologist, to help him track down the murderer。 Ann has a dramatic past and was nearly killed in a house fire when s Three Stars Near You is the second book in the Montana series by Mary Burton。 Office Bryce McCabe receives a phone call from a fellow officer asking him to consult on a grisly murder in the mountains of Montana。 It is suspected that there is a serial killer on the loose when they discover the killing is similar to a recent case。 He asks for Dr。 Ann Bailey, an academic forensic psychologist, to help him track down the murderer。 Ann has a dramatic past and was nearly killed in a house fire when she was in college; her former love Elijah Weston was sentenced to 10 years in prison for allegedly starting the fire and has just recently been released from prison。。。 Before starting this book, I read reviews that it could be read as a standalone。 While I agree the main story of this can definitely be understood without reading the first book, there are certainly tons of details about Ann Bailey's life that are never explained, and which I assume take place in the first book。 Unfortunately, these events are frequently referenced without any backstory, which I found frustrating。 Positives: Beautiful cover! The storyline was enjoyable, and both easy to read and follow。The author manages to write murder scenes and autopsies without them being overly graphic or repulsive。 Negatives: Unfortunately, I have a lot more of these。I did not like how Ann was a consultant on this case but felt the need to boss Bryce around on his investigation and tell him what he needs to do。 He's a detective。 He should know to take most of these common steps。Dr。 Bailey really likes to flaunt her doctorate title。 Was it really necessary for her to order pizza under the name Dr。 Bailey?(view spoiler)[ The relationship between Ann and Bryce seemed very sudden, flat, and lacking in chemistry。 And please, Ann。 Stop moistening your lips。Ugh。。。 the scene at the end with the paramedics。 Sorry to bust out my inner nurse here, but to begin with- paramedics don't carry "small medkits。" The huge duffle they carry usually is 25+ pounds along with a giant machine to check blood pressure/heart rate and can also defibrillate (shock) the patient if needed。 Secondly, no one ever does CPR on scene for one minute before announcing the person is dead。。。 this person would have absolutely been transported to the hospital with CPR being continued。Lastly- I was super annoyed at Ann in the epilogue- Elijah put cameras in your house to spy on you which you are perfectly aware of, but you're going to allow him to have contact with your son?? (hide spoiler)]I was grateful to win this copy of Near You by Mary Burton from a Goodreads Giveaway, and this review is my honest opinion。 。。。more

Great plotI love Mary Burton's books and this one was no exception。 The initial concept of the plot was pretty gruesome (which is fine with me), then the story evolved into a who done it。 I enjoyed the characters。 Mary was able to bring out a distinct and unique personality to each of the character。 There were enough characters to make the story interesting, introduced at a nice pace, and not so many that the mind was unable to recall who did what。 I gave only 4 stars because I like more devianc Great plotI love Mary Burton's books and this one was no exception。 The initial concept of the plot was pretty gruesome (which is fine with me), then the story evolved into a who done it。 I enjoyed the characters。 Mary was able to bring out a distinct and unique personality to each of the character。 There were enough characters to make the story interesting, introduced at a nice pace, and not so many that the mind was unable to recall who did what。 I gave only 4 stars because I like more deviance and murder, which is most often supplied in Mary Burton's novels。 。。。more
