Summary

Lincoln Lawyer Mickey Haller is back on the job in this heart-stopping thriller from a renowned #1 New York Times bestselling author。

“One of the finest legal thrillers of the last decade” —Associated Press

On the night he celebrates a big win, defense attorney Mickey Haller is pulled over by police, who find the body of a former client in the trunk of his Lincoln。 Haller is immediately charged with murder but can’t post the exorbitant $5 million bail slapped on him by a vindictive judge。

Mickey elects to represent himself and is forced to mount his defense from his jail cell in the Twin Towers Correctional Center in downtown Los Angeles。 All the while he needs to look over his shoulder—as an officer of the court he is an instant target, and he makes few friends when he reveals a corruption plot within the jail。

But the bigger plot is the one against him。 Haller knows he’s been framed, whether by a new enemy or an old one。 As his trusted team, including his half-brother, Harry Bosch, investigates, Haller must use all his skills in the courtroom to counter the damning evidence against him。

Even if he can obtain a not-guilty verdict, Mickey understands that it won’t be enough。 In order to be truly exonerated, he must find out who really committed the murder and why。 That is the law of innocence。

In his highest stakes case yet, the Lincoln Lawyer fights for his life and proves again why he is “a worthy colleague of Atticus Finch 。 。 。 in the front of the pack in the legal thriller game” (Los Angeles Times)。

You can depend on Connelly to give us a good read, especially with the Lincoln Lawyer。 Haller is back and up to his old tricks in and out of the courtroom--this time he is his own client。 He is defending himself on a murder rap with the assistance of Jennifer as co-counsel。 Of course, the entire gang is on board to prove that he has been framed by some unknown entity for some unknown reason for the murder of a former, many times client who still owed him money。 There is no get out of jail free c You can depend on Connelly to give us a good read, especially with the Lincoln Lawyer。 Haller is back and up to his old tricks in and out of the courtroom--this time he is his own client。 He is defending himself on a murder rap with the assistance of Jennifer as co-counsel。 Of course, the entire gang is on board to prove that he has been framed by some unknown entity for some unknown reason for the murder of a former, many times client who still owed him money。 There is no get out of jail free card in play on $5 million bond on this charge so it is very difficult to work on your defense while being held in a jail cell。 Daughter Haley is now in law school and Mickey didn't want her to see him in jail so did not put her on his visitors' list, but she attends every day of his trial。 Working on his behalf are half brother Harry Bosch; business manager ex-wife Lorna and her husband, investigator Cisco。 Just before the trial is to start, Jennifer is called away due to the serious illness and subsequent death of her father。 So ex-wife and love of his life, Haley's mother, Maggie takes leave from her job in the prosecutor's office (EPA) and becomes Mickey's co-counsel。 In this case there is plenty of incompetence in the investigation, vindictive, unwise prosecutorial misconduct (of course some defense misconduct also--it's Mickey!), clever jury selection by Haller and an extremely fair judge who was previously a defense lawyer herself。 Mickey almost loses his life。 Surprise benefactors, diligent work, and an abundance of luck come Mickey's way in this one。 After the victory celebration Maggie, Haley, and Mickey take a little trip together。 Sounds like the sparks are still there。 Mickey is also dreaming the three of them will form a new law firm。 Do you suppose any of this could happen? Whenever the book got a little repetitious or moved too slowly, all I had to do was think of Matthew McConaughey and I was fine, fine, fine。 。。。more

The best post-pandemic thriller yetConnelly captures the suspense of a murder investigation and a high profile trial with the additional angst of the impending pandemic w/out skipping a beat。 He is the best both in character development and legal processes。 Great book as always!!

While I don’t love legal thrillers, Michael Connelly is one of the best writers in the biz。 Solid plot and characters kept this book interesting from start to finish。 It might be my favorite Mickey Haller book yet。

Michael Connelly is always such an easy writer to read。 From the first page, you are drawn in to his latest story。 Very engaging。 The emerging crisis of Covid, makes for a suspenseful background story。 Having read many books by this author, it seemed extra dramatic that now the current challenge in the world has even seeped into the world of Harry Bosch Mickey Haller etc。

Realistic but anticlimatic conclusion。

I have always enjoyed reading Michael Connelly’s work and following his characters in print, in movies, and on television。 While I liked the story, he ruined it for me when he got political。 I’m so tired of the rhetoric on both sides, and I feel this dud nothing to advance the plot。

Informed by the pandemic, this Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch novel sees Haller acting in pro per for murder。 A well-crafted mystery with interesting characters and lots of suspense。 The few moments with Bosch in them were the highlights for me。

Very well written。 I had trouble with the premise of people actually believing that the plot setup could have happened, but once I got past that, it was very well done。

A good read but!I think that this is a good story but, and thats a big but! Michael Connelly should stay away from politics or he should go back and edit his story。 His comments against President Trump we're unfounded and incorrect。 His statements have been proved wrong and were caused by the clown that is presently in that office。Hey if someone doesn't like my comments then I have as much right to them as the author has to his。 Just IMHO。 A good read but!I think that this is a good story but, and thats a big but! Firstly, I am a very big Michael Connelley fan (especially Lincoln Lawyer and Harry Bosch series') and have read most of his books。 This one is definitely a good read。。。great plot, lots of turnabouts, but this is the second Micael Connelley novel that I've read that didn't seem to have the Michael Connelly attitude/feel (sorry, can't recall the title of the other one)。 I was really looking forward to two of my favourite characters together in one story but disappointed to not feel any of Mickey Firstly, I am a very big Michael Connelley fan (especially Lincoln Lawyer and Harry Bosch series') and have read most of his books。 This one is definitely a good read。。。great plot, lots of turnabouts, but this is the second Micael Connelley novel that I've read that didn't seem to have the Michael Connelly attitude/feel (sorry, can't recall the title of the other one)。 I was really looking forward to two of my favourite characters together in one story but disappointed to not feel any of Mickey Haller's usually swagger or Harry Bosch's implacable attitude。 The legal battling was still top-notch and I ripped through it as fast as I usually do but, emotionally, the book felt flat。 。。。more

Michael Connelly is the only person on the planet who can make voir dire riveting。

Some reviewers didn't like the trump references。 I thought like others it was relevant to the story line of jury selection。 Unfortunately I read this during the Derek Chauvin trial。。。。I much better story that kept everyone on edge till the final verdict was read。 Some reviewers didn't like the trump references。 I thought like others it was relevant to the story line of jury selection。 Unfortunately I read this during the Derek Chauvin trial。。。。I much better story that kept everyone on edge till the final verdict was read。 。。。more

The ending felt a bit rushed but other than that, I'm definitely not disappointed。 That being said , I think this is more of a 4 star book but I'm biased so for me it's still gonna be 5。 Sorry lol The ending felt a bit rushed but other than that, I'm definitely not disappointed。 That being said , I think this is more of a 4 star book but I'm biased so for me it's still gonna be 5。 Sorry lol 。。。more

Michael Connelly is at his finest in this book。 It is a mystery, a thriller, and a piece of historical fiction set in the backdrop of the beginning of the pandemic。 I found that part particularly interesting as I was in LA during the time period of the book。

Rachel

Love his books but please keep politics OUT of the novels。 Reading is an escapism。

Mickey Haller is my favorite of Connelly's protagonists, and this one was top-flight Connelly。 I really wasn't sure what was going to happen! Connelly is the best law/police procedural writer working today。 I'm looking forward to more Lincoln Lawyer stories as Harry Bosch ages out。 Mickey Haller is my favorite of Connelly's protagonists, and this one was top-flight Connelly。 I really wasn't sure what was going to happen! Incredibly interesting and fun read, but fundamentally stupid and unrealistic。 It will always have a fond place in my heart, however。

As with every Michael Connelly book, once you've read page 1, your hooked。 This one was no different, what with Haller being arrested, thrown in Jail and having to defend himself in which he is the accused for murder。 Not to mention Haller had to spend the entire time in jail seeing how the other half actually survive。I think what make all the Connelly books excellent is the character's move from book to book so that you know who they are and where they came from。A Good Read, you won't be disapp As with every Michael Connelly book, once you've read page 1, your hooked。 This one was no different, what with Haller being arrested, thrown in Jail and having to defend himself in which he is the accused for murder。 Not to mention Haller had to spend the entire time in jail seeing how the other half actually survive。I think what make all the Connelly books excellent is the character's move from book to book so that you know who they are and where they came from。A Good Read, you won't be disappointed。 。。。more

I follow Connelly because I enjoy Bosch, but this is the first plunge into Haller。I have to say it was well written, but not my style and I doubt I will look at Haller again。It was full of legal and court activity and it kept me turning pages, but not 'exciting' enough and at the end I really didn't care。 I follow Connelly because I enjoy Bosch, but this is the first plunge into Haller。I have to say it was well written, but not my style and I doubt I will look at Haller again。It was full of legal and court activity and it kept me turning pages, but not 'exciting' enough and at the end I really didn't care。 。。。more

This was very much a courtroom drama featuring Mickey Haller accused of murder。 His stepbrother Harry Bosch makes an appearance as does his ex-wife Maggie McPhearson。 Seems to be one of the better Connelly books of late although I could have done without the references to the upcoming Pandemic。

Julie Tappero

Another fun read in this series。 However, it again felt like I missed a book in between。 Wondering if Michael Connelly fills in the story line with another series。 In any event, I enjoyed this story and look forward to the next one。

David

Not bad。 Good to take a break from the serious stuff and get a little courtroom action。

Kurt Vosper

One of the best Connelly books in recent memory and that is saying a lot as I really enjoy every Bosch outing。 This one features Mickey Haller, the Lincoln Lawyer。 Falsely accused and on trial for his life Mick has to figure out the who and why of his frame。 With the help of his team including Bosch he’s got a lot of work ahead。 Read it!

I would have given this book 4 stars but the author bad mouthing Trump was disgusting。 Good story。 Probably won’t read another of his books because of putting his obvious bias into the book。 Everyone reads, including republicans。

An interesting read。 I'm not sure he completely closed the loop on the connection between the bad guy and Micky Haller。 Definitely not a flattering look at prosecutors。 An interesting read。 I'm not sure he completely closed the loop on the connection between the bad guy and Micky Haller。 Definitely not a flattering look at prosecutors。 。。。more
