Summary

Sometimes the hardest battles take place in the heart。

Poverty and abuse at the hands of her drunkard father leaves Hannah Bane trapped and alone。 Without hope, she prays for a miracle just on the off-chance God will hear her。 Will the new deputy, who seems to be watching her every move, be Hannah’s one chance to escape the only life she’s ever known?

For as long as he can remember, John Mark Eliason has wanted to be a deputy sheriff。 When a job opens in the nearby town of Poplar Springs, he eagerly accepts, but finds his greatest mission won’t be tracking down criminals and bringing justice to the ruthless Wyoming town, but saving a woman he barely knows。

Will an unexpected answer to a difficult situation show how love can endure—and even thrive—in an unconventional situation? Or will fear and uncertainty keep two hesitant hearts apart?

In the sequel to Forgotten Memories, award-winning author Penny Zeller weaves a tender tale of faith, romance, and humor in a memorable story that reminds us God hears every prayer and has a plan for every life。

I started Dreams of the Heart utterly heartbroken。 The life in which we find Hannah Bane is repulsive, and one that I couldn’t see wishing on my worst enemy。 Having to take care of an abusive father that resents her existence is both heartbreaking and infuriating。 I have zero tolerance for anyone that treats another human being like this! This sets the tone for a slower pace than what I was expecting, that holds palpable tension as you get your footing in this rough and tumble town。 John Mark is I started Dreams of the Heart utterly heartbroken。 The life in which we find Hannah Bane is repulsive, and one that I couldn’t see wishing on my worst enemy。 Having to take care of an abusive father that resents her existence is both heartbreaking and infuriating。 I have zero tolerance for anyone that treats another human being like this! This sets the tone for a slower pace than what I was expecting, that holds palpable tension as you get your footing in this rough and tumble town。 John Mark is the new deputy and a knight in shining armor for poor Hannah, rescuing her and showing her how good life can be away from the abuse。 In an era when mail order brides are not unheard of, marriage under a unique situation such as John Mark and Hannah’s isn’t too far fetched, and is more heroic than anything。The evil characters abound in this novel, as Poplar Springs, Wyoming seems to be a hotbed of depravity。 I growled and sneered at the book on several occasions, the selfishness and maliciousness of this group of men positively astounding。Though there is darkness that lurks throughout the novel there are bright spots as well, especially in the scenes with the Pearson family and the Eliason family。 They are the kinds of family that everyone dreams of。 Loving, supportive, and loyal their overwhelming kindness exudes off the pages and truly brings the sunshine。I got lost in this narrative, ebbing and flowing with emotions, as I witnessed Hannah and John Mark not only fighting for what is right, but exploring their own emotions and the new situation they found themselves in。 I know one thing, there is no way I could’ve lived in this time period, but I’m glad I can visit it in my imagination。*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours。 All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own。 。。。more

Sweet, sweet read! I loved how the characters drew me into the story。 The author did an amazing job weaving a compelling story with relatable characters。My heart went put for Hannah。 I loves the Hero that John Mark was。 They fit so well。 Love, sacrifice, family and forgiveness were illustrated so beautifully。 I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion。

I enjoyed Dreams of the Heart。 Its deeply Christian themes combined well with the hard realities of an abused daughter, a crime-ridden town, the handsome lawman, and the adorable Grumbles。 (I particularly adored Grumbles the deputy pig。) If you like sweet Christian romances, add this one to your reading list。

In book one, Forgotten Memories, we meet John Mark as a child。 It is wonderful to see him as a grown man。 The town he grew up in was a wholesome town filled with good people。 The town in which he becomes a deputy sheriff is quite the opposite。 Watching this young man do his best to make a difference in a corrupt town reminds me of how we should be doing the same things wherever God has planted us。 Hannah's life up until she meets this young deputy is one that is hard to take。 She lived with a dr In book one, Forgotten Memories, we meet John Mark as a child。 It is wonderful to see him as a grown man。 The town he grew up in was a wholesome town filled with good people。 The town in which he becomes a deputy sheriff is quite the opposite。 Watching this young man do his best to make a difference in a corrupt town reminds me of how we should be doing the same things wherever God has planted us。 Hannah's life up until she meets this young deputy is one that is hard to take。 She lived with a drunkard father her entire childhood, mostly alone。 There were some that helped her in small ways but most turn a blind eye to other peoples hardships without ever realizing it。 John Mark didn't do that。 He saw her when no one else seemed to。 People finally realize AFTER John Mark does something that THEY should have stepped up and done more to help。 Despite the hardships she faces growing up, she clung to her faith and found strength everyday by reading her mother's bible。 She never stopped praying and never gave up!These two young people's love starts out so simple, just a friendship that grows into so much more。 I love how they pray that they can be what the other person needs them to be even before any feelings of love have begun to bloom。 They both go through some really tough things but find a strong support system of people, including each other, that help them overcome the hardships and heartaches。 This wonderful story had me really thinking about how I should approach things in my life。 Even when things are challenging, downright unfair and just plain wrong。 I read this book in about two days。 I did NOT want to stop reading。 I can't wait to read book 3! 。。。more

This sweet, tender story warmed my heart so much! As a first-time reader of the works by author Penny Zeller, I had no idea of the delight I was in for。 After reading Dreams of the Heart, it was clear to see that the author’s heart shines through in her carefully-crafted characters and story。 This short novel is wholesome and offers rich, deep threads of Christian faith。 I simply adored each of the main characters in this story。 Hannah bravely faces her broken past and displays a life-long longing to be free from the abuse and terror she faces on a daily basis。 Her faith is strong, her persona shy and delicate。 John Mark was the perfect balance to her character, with his protective, almost impulsive, nature and strong family heritage。 Witnessing them marry, discover new truths about one another and fall in love was so rewarding。 I loved how the characters spent time in prayer, seeking God’s will for each of their lives as they moved into their unconventional union。 What reader doesn’t love a marriage of convenience? This is one of my favorite tropes and it was so well done in this story。 It was wholesome and tender, mature and filled with scriptural foundation and admonitions。 The little town of Poplar Springs, Wyoming hosted a wide variety of secondary characters, from adorable little Ambrose and his pet pig, Grumbles, to townsfolk who both won over my heart and still others who provided a delightful hint of suspense and evil。 The ending was surprising and heartfelt。 This story read at a great pace, was the perfect length for a cozy afternoon read and truly left my heart feeling inspired and warm。 It reads as a standalone, though it is book two in Zeller’s Wyoming Sunrise series。 I definitely recommend reading them in order, but it's not necessary。 If you’re a reader who enjoys clean, heartfelt historical fiction stories with multi-layered characters, deep threads of Christian faith and a dash of excitement, then you’re sure to love Dreams of the Heart! Readers who enjoy books by Janette Oke, Lauraine Snelling, Jody Hedlund, Tracie Peterson and/or Misty M。 Beller will likely love this story as well! *I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary e-copy of this book from the author。 All thoughts are my own and I was not required to write a positive review。 。。。more

Her father is an alcoholic and thief, who abuses herHer mother died when she was born and he blamed her。 Never made her feel safe。 Never made sure she had enough to eat。 She would sit outside downtown every night so she could drive him home。 And the sheriff watched out for her as well as he could。 And then he asked her to come live with him to protect her。 Seriously this is an amazing book。 100% loved it。I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily。

I have really been enjoying the Wyoming Sunrise series and this book focuses on John Mark Eliason, whom we met in Forgotten Memories when he was still in his youth and attending school。 Now he is an adult and the deputy of the town of Poplar Springs, Wyoming。 His heart for both compassion and justice was made evident through his actions toward the people in his town。 He displays such depth of character when he struggles with some of the decisions he’s made。 I liked the reappearance of his pastor I have really been enjoying the Wyoming Sunrise series and this book focuses on John Mark Eliason, whom we met in Forgotten Memories when he was still in his youth and attending school。 Now he is an adult and the deputy of the town of Poplar Springs, Wyoming。 His heart for both compassion and justice was made evident through his actions toward the people in his town。 He displays such depth of character when he struggles with some of the decisions he’s made。 I liked the reappearance of his pastor father Solomon in this story, as he provided wisdom and guidance to his son。 Shy Hannah Bane has lived a despondent life at the hands of her abusive father and it was heartening to read how she bloomed as the book progressed。 I love the uplifting spiritual messages I will find in a book by this author。 While serious themes are present in this story, there are several lighthearted moments that will evoke smiles and laughter。 I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher via Celebrate Lit Bloggers and Reviewers。 A positive review was not required and the opinions expressed here are mine alone。 。。。more

When a book captures your entire being, you know it is an inspired work from the very heart of the author。 Such was the case with this story as emotion after emotion engulfed my soul, my spirit, wanting a happy ending but not wanting it to end。 The message of Christ is creatively woven into the very fabric of the plot, reminding the reader time and again of the only answer to anything life brings。 I continue to be uplifted and encouraged as I follow this truly gifted novelist。

Yes, I was teary。 If it doesn't draw tears to your eyes, then you either scanned it or just didn't read it。 Because it's just the perfect ending to such a lovely story。SETTINGThe wild, wayward town of Poplar Springs is well-written, as is Zeller's amazing depictions of the nearby mountains, wooded foothills, and cattle-dotted prairie。 And it was nice revisiting Willow Falls again。CHARACTERSJohn Mark is the best and that's all I'm going to say。 I love his protective nature and duty to enforcing justice。 Hannah is such a dear character and Zeller really presented her as a sympathetic character。 I loved her character arc。 She's depicted perfectly on the cover--it captures the longing we witness within her, captures the dreams she hopes will someday, somehow be fulfilled, and just encapsulates the book's overall feeling。The myriad of secondary characters are great as well。 Ambrose is such a little sweetie and he needs a hug。 I want his story。 It was nice seeing the other characters from Love's New Beginnings and Forgotten Memories again。 Reverend Solomon is as wise as ever, Lydie is still so kind and caring, Annie and Caleb are now three, soon to be four, times busier (you'll understand when you read this book), and Charlotte is Charlotte。 I think her story is next, and I really want it。 Really, really want it。 Ina, Pritchard, Hank, Frank, Winslow, and the others were good as well。 Pritchard had me laughing almost every time。 And the antagonists were well-written too。 Nasty sots。 They deserved their comeuppance。 FAITHTrue to Zeller's style, a deep amount of faith is woven in, and in such a beautiful manner as well。 This is not a book for those who detest Scripture and characters who are unafraid to obey the Bible and share about their faith。 It's also not a book for those who only want watered-down faith。 Zeller is bold and firm in the incorporation, and I can't applaud that enough。 CONTENT WARNINGSThere is nothing objectionable。 Emotional abuse is alluded to, as are a few instances of physical。 Characters are shot, there are mentions of robberies, and arson is committed。 Zeller stays true to her style and writes a book that is pleasing and God-honoring and which contains no cringe-worthy content。ROMANCETrue to Zeller's style, the romance is wonderfully clean, which I so appreciate。 I don't have to have my eyes pop out at unexpected--and unnecessary--content, and it's just lovely and pure and God-honoring。 I've been seeing many historicals become too lustful, and I am grateful to report this is not one of those。 This is an example of how a Godly marriage should be, even if it comes about in an unconventional way。 No nasty sex scenes, no lewd comments, no lust。 Just a wonderful romance I can read without cringing。 CONCLUSIONWith a delightful blend of faith, God-honoring romance, a great plot, and humor, Zeller once again brings us a book that deserves to be on everyone's TBR。 You will laugh, cry, shout in anger at the villains, and urge the main characters toward triumph as you immerse yourself in this book。I've said it once and I'll say it again: this is my favorite of Zeller's books。Dreams of the Heart is a captivating, lovely story that will capture you within its pages and keep you reading--and wishing for more。*I received an eARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review。 All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own。 。。。more
