Summary

Immortality: A Love Story is the eagerly anticipated sequel to Dana Schwartz's bestselling gothic romance, Anatomy: A Love Story

Hazel Sinnett is alone and half-convinced the events of the year before—the immortality, Beecham’s vial—were a figment of her imagination。 She doesn’t even know whether Jack is alive or dead。 All she can really do now is treat patients and maintain Hawthornden Castle as it starts to decay around her。

When saving a life leads to her arrest, Hazel seems doomed to rot in prison until a message intervenes: She has been specifically requested to be the personal physician of Princess Charlotte, the sickly daughter of King George IV。 Soon Hazel is dragged into the glamor and romance of a court where everyone has something to hide, especially the enigmatic, brilliant members of a social club known as the Companions to the Death。

As Hazel’s work entangles her more and more with the British court, she realizes that her own future as a surgeon isn't the only thing at stake。 Malicious forces are at work in the monarchy, and Hazel may be the only one capable of setting things right。

As a sequel, it didn’t really live up to the intensity of its former。 BUTTTTT the ending was so adorable。 I’m literally so happy with how it ended。 Part of me really wants a novella to see if Hazel does you know what but ughhhhhhh be still my Hazel and Jack heart。 I love those two so much。 Highly recommend reading the first book “Anatomy” if you haven’t done so already!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I was disappointed。 The beginning of the book really seemed like it was going somewhere, especially when she was arrested。 As smart as she is, I couldn't believe she couldn't figure out who Florence was。 I thought her time in London would be much darker, with the secret society, I really suspected that they would be angry at her decision。 Then we had to wait forever to find out what happened to Jack。 This is probably trivial, but as worried as she was about Iona's pregnancy in the beginning of t I was disappointed。 The beginning of the book really seemed like it was going somewhere, especially when she was arrested。 As smart as she is, I couldn't believe she couldn't figure out who Florence was。 I thought her time in London would be much darker, with the secret society, I really suspected that they would be angry at her decision。 Then we had to wait forever to find out what happened to Jack。 This is probably trivial, but as worried as she was about Iona's pregnancy in the beginning of the book, and then it's never mentioned again。 Iona was there for her through so much, and she just abandoned her?!? 。。。more

The novel is read by Mhairi Morrison and Tim Campbell。 I had a personal love for Morrison's voice as I was swept up into the narrative。 The tones and emotions fit the scenes well and the accent is perfection。 In Immortality, Hazel has become more known for her growing skills as a female doctor。 It's still a time when women are looked down on for not marrying and having goals and dreams that are seen as befitting a man。 Schwartz adds a few standout touches to this novel that I liked。 The inclusion of sapphic romance, the weight of the crown and a secret society with fingers in the political pot。 There is also a character well beyond his era that notices Hazel's talent and struggle as a women in the field and supports her wholly, even as things get a little dicey。 Let's not forget the well researched laws and diseases during that era。 Schwartz seriously did a great job with the world building in both novels。 I'm keeping this one short in case others haven't read the first book。 There's a loose thread in book one that is tied off in this one and readers should get the "going in blind" excitement that I got to experience when I finished the audiobook。 It's well worth it! Thank you Macmillan Audio for the gifted audio copy! All thoughts are my own。 。。。more

I read the first book less than two weeks before the release of the second book, a happy accident! Just like Anatomy, Immortality was intensely readable, and once I actually sat down with it, I read it in a day or two。What I liked:- the plot was attention-grabbing and had enough going on to keep me reading。 The change of setting and introduction of lots of new characters helped distinguish it from the first book。- I still really adore Hazel’s character and think she’s fairly believable, although I read the first book less than two weeks before the release of the second book, a happy accident! I really enjoy Dana Schwartz's writing and this follow up to Anatomy stays true to that! This story is little gruesome, a little unexpected, but still totally enjoyable。 This book doesn't have nearly as much romance in it as book one, so I'd say this is more the love story of a woman and her work。 If you go the audio route, the narrators do a wonderful job bringing this story and these characters to life! *Steamy kisses with descriptions of tongue, some nudity, one fade to black scene I really enjoy Dana Schwartz's writing and this follow up to Anatomy stays true to that! I was excited to read this sequel because of Jack。 I had to get past 200 pages of Hazel moving on with her life before Jack’s fate was revealed。 After that point, the story was much more interesting to me。 I agree with other reviewers who suggested that this book would have been better as a novella。Thank you to Netgalley and St Martin’s Press for the ARC!

Book 2 was much more disappointing。First of all, Jack was MIA for most of the book until the 65-70% of the book。 Why that choice was made???
