Summary

“Are you really a thief?” That’s the question that has haunted fourteen-year-old Ezekiel Blast all his life。 But he’s not a thief, he just has a talent for finding things。 Not a superpower—a micropower。 Because what good is finding lost bicycles and hair scrunchies, especially when you return them to their owners and everyone thinks you must have stolen them in the first place? If only there were some way to use Ezekiel’s micropower for good, to turn a curse into a blessing。 His friend Beth thinks there must be, and so does a police detective investigating the disappearance of a little girl。 When tragedy strikes, it’s up to Ezekiel to use his talent to find what matters most。 Master storyteller Orson Scott Card delivers a touching and funny, compelling and smart novel about growing up, harnessing your potential, and finding your place in the world, no matter how old you are。

Lost and FoundI really enjoyed this book。 I'm a language person。 This book has a lot of words that speak truth and goodness。 Mr。 Card is a genius writer。 I like his writing better than I like Shakespeare。 If I was young enough to still teach school I would definitely use this wonderful book to start the school year。 If you love words as I do, then read this book and enjoy the letters that dance before your eyes。 Lost and FoundI really enjoyed this book。 I'm a language person。 This book has a lot of words that speak truth and goodness。 Mr。 Card is a genius writer。 I like his writing better than I like Shakespeare。 If I was young enough to still teach school I would definitely use this wonderful book to start the school year。 If you love words as I do, then read this book and enjoy the letters that dance before your eyes。 。。。more

4/5 some of the dialogue is a bit of a stretch。 But still a very good coming of age novel。 With some heavy stuff thrown in。

A catalog of life lessons。

I loved the characters。 If you read OSC you get used to every character being witty and charming even under dire circumstances。 It's not really realistic, but it's consistent with every book he writes。 This was a fun tale with some interesting people。 I loved the characters。 If you read OSC you get used to every character being witty and charming even under dire circumstances。 It's not really realistic, but it's consistent with every book he writes。 This was a fun tale with some interesting people。 。。。more

Liked the book, but it did go too long… it should have ended long before it did

Orson Scott Card likes to write about adolescent boys (Enders Game, Seventh Son)。 Here is another story about a teenage boy who often seems older than his years。 In some ways it reminded me (not in a good way) of “Fairy Tale” by Stephen King。 King justified his character’s maturity by stating that he was telling the story of his youth from the point of view of an older age。 It’s possible, though, that I don’t give adolescents enough credit, since it’s been so long since I was one。 Regardless, th Orson Scott Card likes to write about adolescent boys (Enders Game, Seventh Son)。 Here is another story about a teenage boy who often seems older than his years。 In some ways it reminded me (not in a good way) of “Fairy Tale” by Stephen King。 King justified his character’s maturity by stating that he was telling the story of his youth from the point of view of an older age。 It’s possible, though, that I don’t give adolescents enough credit, since it’s been so long since I was one。 Regardless, this wasn’t a bad story。 The theme – which extends to at least another book, perhaps a series – is “micropowers”。 These are like superpowers, only unusual and not obviously important or useful。 For example, one young woman has the ability to make people sneeze。 A university professor puts together a support group for young people with these powers。 Her own ability is one where she knows without looking whether or not a person’s belly button is an “innie” or an “outie”。 Ezekiel, the protagonist of this book, has the ability to take a lost object and find the person who has lost it。 This turns out to be very useful when he is recruited to help solve a criminal case。I did not find this book as interesting or meaningful as the Ender or Seventh Son series。 But Ezekiel’s struggles growing up were well-portrayed; they rang true。 And I found the story enjoyable。 。。。more

Simplistic vocabulary and easy to follow, characters were beautifully developed throughout the story。 Great story for any looking for an easy read covering emotionally strenuous topics!!

I got into Ender's Game and loved reading it aloud to my 5th grade class。 It was one of those coming-of-age read alouds。 Like, "you aren't ready for this, and I'm probably going to be fired for reading it to you, so never mind。" Just to get their attention。 This book would be great to read aloud as well to grades 5 and up, depending on the audience。 I love the premise: what if there were superpowers that were pretty much useless。 The delivery unfortunately was not the best。 The dialogue was too I got into Ender's Game and loved reading it aloud to my 5th grade class。 It was one of those coming-of-age read alouds。 Like, "you aren't ready for this, and I'm probably going to be fired for reading it to you, so never mind。" Just to get their attention。 This book would be great to read aloud as well to grades 5 and up, depending on the audience。 I love the premise: what if there were superpowers that were pretty much useless。 The delivery unfortunately was not the best。 The dialogue was too snarky and gratuitous。 The author was trying to preach, projecting his own voice through kids。 My current 7th-12th graders would not appreciate this。 They would immediately call out the author for showing himself too much through the dialogue。 He's trying just a little too hard to show that kids can have intelligent, adult, real-world conversations that matter。 。。。more

I would give this book a solid 3。75, so I decided to go with the 4 stars。 I read Ender's Game when I was a freshman in high school, and I was so surprised how much I enjoyed it。 To be honest, I think the book got me interested in the Sci-Fi genre。 I thought about the book the other day and looked up Orson Scott Card, to discover that he recently wrote a standalone book! I put the book on hold and wanted to read it for a while。 The premise is so unique, engaging, and just cute - a teenage boy who I would give this book a solid 3。75, so I decided to go with the 4 stars。 I read Ender's Game when I was a freshman in high school, and I was so surprised how much I enjoyed it。 To be honest, I think the book got me interested in the Sci-Fi genre。 I thought about the book the other day and looked up Orson Scott Card, to discover that he recently wrote a standalone book! I give this the same review I gave the second micropowers novel: the story is enjoyable, the characters are fun, and the concept is delightful, but the characters are almost all completely recycled。 I’m ok with it, because I like the characters, but the tone and voices of all of the parents in all of Card’s novels are the same and the tone and voices of all of the children in his novels are exactly the same。 Again, I’m ok with it… but I think it’s a bit frowned upon, isn’t it?

I really enjoy the language of this author, the way he created characters。 I enjoyed listening to this book and getting my feelings played with。 Look forward to the next one

Orson Scott Card used to be my favorite writer。 This book had a promising story ruined by unbelievable and antagonistic dialogue between the characters。 Even genius kids don’t talk like they’ve studied English literature for 60 years。 It’s disappointing to have someone with Card’s talent and creativity pop out multiple books with crappy male and female clones of Ender Wiggin bantering through Greensboro, NC。

Pretty entertaining story overall。 Trigger warning for kidnapping。

Heartfelt and intriguing, such a simple concept and yet so profound。 Orson Scott Card doesn’t disappoint。 Throughly entertaining。I am certain part of it was the deadpan delivery of the narrator。 It added a nuance that fit perfectly with the dialog and MC。 Might not have enjoyed it on paper but as an audiobook it was great!

Chispita Kelly

Unexpectedly enthralling。 I loved this! it was so unique and sweet and a bit scary。 great ya novel

This book was really hard to get through。 Not because it’s a bad book or anything, just because it ends up diving headlong into some really deep, gross topics without much warning。 I’m unsure as to whether or not I myself am happy that I read this book, but I do think that it handled everything O。K。

This book is what used to expect from Card。 I loved how he would crawl inside people's heads and reveal their deepest thoughts and turn even reprehensible characters sympathetic。 This isn't "Speaker for the Dead" or anything, but it's fun and engaging, with an interesting premise, and with lots of the internal dialogue and scintillating conversations that I love from him。 This book is what used to expect from Card。 I loved how he would crawl inside people's heads and reveal their deepest thoughts and turn even reprehensible characters sympathetic。 This isn't "Speaker for the Dead" or anything, but it's fun and engaging, with an interesting premise, and with lots of the internal dialogue and scintillating conversations that I love from him。 。。。more

Poignant I got hooked early。Some twists were easy to see coming, but the plot was strong enough to get me crying throughout the last five or six chapters。

I started this one last night, when my book club selection turned my brain to dust -- and this one grabbed me from the first chapter!Haha, went through the first few pages of Card's long list of books on GR: I have read quite a few!Update: finished this charming, entertaining, and thought-provoking book: 4。5 stars, rounded up to 5 for grabbing my interest and holding it fast until the final page。 The author certainly understands young people with surprising intellect, as in his Ender series。 But I started this one last night, when my book club selection turned my brain to dust -- and this one grabbed me from the first chapter!Haha, went through the first few pages of Card's long list of books on GR: I have read quite a few!Update: finished this charming, entertaining, and thought-provoking book: 4。5 stars, rounded up to 5 for grabbing my interest and holding it fast until the final page。 The author certainly understands young people with surprising intellect, as in his Ender series。 But who knew that Orson Scott Card had such a sense of humor, and could write witty dialogue between young teens that rings so true? Can't-put-it-down suspense, and yet another "found family" to warm my heart。。。。Spoilers would abound in trying to summarize plot points, so I will leave you with a question: don't we ALL have micropowers that we simply haven't recognized yet?Addendum: I liked Ezekiel's thoughts about "place" and found family。"A person's place was made up of people who showed up somewhere regularly enough that you could also show up and count on at least some of them being there。 And then you could talk to them and say whatever asinine thing came into your head and even if they ridiculed you for it they did it like friends。"And kudos to any author who quotes one of the greatest lines in one of the greatest films of all time, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension: "No matter where you go, there you are。" 。。。more

Seriously heavy stuff for 14-year-olds, but a very good story。 “Are you my friend?” asked Ezekiel softly。 So softly that maybe Shank didn’t hear him。 But Ezekiel sure as hell wasn’t going to say it again。 “It’s taking me a minute to answer,” said Shank, “because I think you mean that word seriously, and there’s a lot of promising that goes along with it。 So I had to think, am I up to that standard?“ “It isn’t a high standard, Lieutenant Shank,” said Ezekiel。 “The hell it isn’t, said Shank。 “It m Seriously heavy stuff for 14-year-olds, but a very good story。 “Are you my friend?” asked Ezekiel softly。 So softly that maybe Shank didn’t hear him。 But Ezekiel sure as hell wasn’t going to say it again。 “It’s taking me a minute to answer,” said Shank, “because I think you mean that word seriously, and there’s a lot of promising that goes along with it。 So I had to think, am I up to that standard?“ “It isn’t a high standard, Lieutenant Shank,” said Ezekiel。 “The hell it isn’t, said Shank。 “It means that I trust you and you can trust me。 It means that if something goes wrong for you I help as much as I can。 It means that if you’re not where you’re expected, I look for you。 It means that if good stuff happens I’m happy for you。 It means that no matter what you say to me I still care about you。 It means that when nobody else will tell you shit that you have to know, even if you hate hearing it, I’m the one to say it。”His place wasn’t to be found geographically。 It wasn’t on a map or an aerial photo of Downy。 A person’s place was made up of people who showed up somewhere regularly enough that you could also show up and count on at least some of them being there。 And then you could talk to them and say whatever asinine thing came into your head and even if they ridiculed you for it they did it like friends。 。。。more

I've enjoyed most of the books I've read by Orson Scott Card and this was no exception。 I really liked the idea of micropowers, and a group trying to see how they could be used。 The story was also great, and kept me interested。My only quibble may or may not be related to having listened to the audio book rather than reading the book。 But, I found it hard to remember that Beth was a proportionate dwarf (I thought that was a midget, but maybe this is just the current label)。 They mention how small I've enjoyed most of the books I've read by Orson Scott Card and this was no exception。 I really liked the idea of micropowers, and a group trying to see how they could be used。 The story was also great, and kept me interested。My only quibble may or may not be related to having listened to the audio book rather than reading the book。 But, I found it hard to remember that Beth was a proportionate dwarf (I thought that was a midget, but maybe this is just the current label)。 They mention how small she is, and it turns out to be a fairly major plot point, but for whatever reason it just didn't stick with me when they weren't talking about it。 Like I said, maybe it's just me。 。。。more

I like this book。 Lost and Found is clear and has an easy-to-follow plot, but still complicated enough to be interesting。 The characters are relatable, even though I have very little in common with the characters。 The book is quite a bit more mature than I thought it was going to be, so I wouldn't recommend this to everyone, but if you can take a little bit of murder and child abuse, it's a good book。 I like this book。 Lost and Found is clear and has an easy-to-follow plot, but still complicated enough to be interesting。 The characters are relatable, even though I have very little in common with the characters。 The book is quite a bit more mature than I thought it was going to be, so I wouldn't recommend this to everyone, but if you can take a little bit of murder and child abuse, it's a good book。 。。。more

This book is one of the best written I’ve read in a long time! And I’m not exaggerating。 The way the author describes the teenage thought brain process was spot on。 I’ve had so many of those same thoughts myself。 You felt you were really in the moment and super invested with the character。 The crime committed is absolutely despicable but unfortunately that crime isn’t made up in our real world。 I don’t tolerate stress a lot or this topic, and yet I could get through it and enjoy the writing。 The This book is one of the best written I’ve read in a long time!
