This book drags terribly， starts slow， really slow then picks up a bit and then halfway through becomes predictable and painful。 Most characters are unlikeable， especially the main one， with a few exceptions。 I listened at 2x speed and it was not enough。 Not intriguing or exciting and had the culprit figured halfway through。

I searched out the first of this series and really enjoyed this read。 Vocabulary-building for me， ala Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe。 I enjoy the way the author puts together a sentence， especially when telling the inner thoughts of the main character。 Once the courtroom drama began， I was into it the rest of the way。 The story was interesting and the pay off fulfilling。 Looking forward to my next book from this author。

Hard to rate this one。 First off， I’ve read it before AND I’ve seen the movie， so the end is not a surprise。 I am currently re-reading every novel on my bookshelf and seeing if they are worthy of going in the moving boxes one more time， or if they are to be donated。 So far， they’re all being donated。 There are some very well written passages in here。 Some thought-provoking Rusty inner dialogue。 Courtroom scenes， drama， mystery， intrigue， etc。。 However， I am not a fan of what is frequently referr Hard to rate this one。 First off， I’ve read it before AND I’ve seen the movie， so the end is not a surprise。 I am currently re-reading every novel on my bookshelf and seeing if they are worthy of going in the moving boxes one more time， or if they are to be donated。 So far， they’re all being donated。 There are some very well written passages in here。 Some thought-provoking Rusty inner dialogue。 Courtroom scenes， drama， mystery， intrigue， etc。。 However， I am not a fan of what is frequently referred to as gritty， or realistic dialogue。 I don’t like the graphic sex stuff。 I find it unpleasant and unnecessary。 What I find even more – funny？ – disturbing？ – is that even with all the sex talk， the novels dedication is “For Mom” Hm。 Mr。 Turow must have had a VERY different mom than I had！ Ah， anyway， overall， a well written book that I probably would have given 4 stars if not for the graphic sex。 。。。more

Prosecutor under trialThe background to the story is the death of a county prosecutor。 The assistant county prosecutor is out in charge of the case and in a bizarre twist ends up being accused of the murder。 The second part of the story addresses the events of and background to the trial。 Again there is a surprise twist at the end which I will not reveal。Overall a good book and worth reading。 It did feel a little cynical in places - certainly not like Perry Mason。

3/5Read 50% - skimmed the rest。 An enjoyable legal drama， slightly too long and too much filler， very densely packed。 Hence the skim。 I enjoyed but would have liked a slimmer version。

Who’s the last person you’d expect to be accused of a murder？ The respected prosecutor responsible for investigating it。 Although Presumed Innocent was first published more than three decades ago， and contains cringey stereotypes， the courtroom drama is such an emotional rollercoaster that Presumed Innocent rightfully earns its place on so many best-of lists for legal thrillers。

The audiobook has background music which doesn’t stop。 Many audiobooks have some music for a minute or two。 I’m on chapter 2 and it continues on and off。 So annoying。 Makes the book seem childlike。

Admittedly this is one of my all time favorite movies， an almost perfect movie， but I had never gotten around to reading the book。 I had memories of my roommate reading it back in 1993 but I never did。 I can count on one hand the number of times the movie is better than the book （e。g。 Godfather， The Firm） but I do have to add to the list because this was a very very good book but nowhere near as perfect as the movie。The movie was pretty faithful to the book and not much was changed， I just think Admittedly this is one of my all time favorite movies， an almost perfect movie， but I had never gotten around to reading the book。 I had memories of my roommate reading it back in 1993 but I never did。 I can count on one hand the number of times the movie is better than the book （e。g。 Godfather， The Firm） but I do have to add to the list because this was a very very good book but nowhere near as perfect as the movie。The movie was pretty faithful to the book and not much was changed， I just think a lot of the story plays out better on the screen。 Some of the courtroom drama， some of the research， some of the dialogue just wasn't written in an engaging way。 I probably have some bias since the movie is such a favorite of mine but whatever。The characters are very good， some are great like Stern， Nico， Rusty and others could have more done with them like the wife and the boss。 The plot was done well。 The actual mystery was phenomenal （some great twists and reveals）。The actual story here is better than anything ever done by Grisham but （and it's just my opinion） I think the story was done much much much better on the big screen than in the written novel。Very glad I finally read it and even though it sounds like I'm coming down on the book， I'm not， it's a really good book （just not as good as the movie）。 。。。more

I'm finally done with this book！ Woohoo！ It only took me five months。。。 My opinion of this book is so conflicted。 I basically don't remember the first 50% of it， nor the last 30 pages or so; the writing was sesquipedalian （I had to Google "a big word used to describe someone who overuses big words"， lol） and the details and characters were hard to follow。 But damn！ The courtroom scenes were fantastic！ I was drawn in and eagerly turning pages to see what would happen next。 The end certainly caugh I'm finally done with this book！ Woohoo！ It only took me five months。。。 My opinion of this book is so conflicted。 I basically don't remember the first 50% of it， nor the last 30 pages or so; the writing was sesquipedalian （I had to Google "a big word used to describe someone who overuses big words"， lol） and the details and characters were hard to follow。 But damn！ The courtroom scenes were fantastic！ I was drawn in and eagerly turning pages to see what would happen next。 The end certainly caught be off guard。 This isn't a book I would recommend （except to hardened courtroom drama readers）， but I suppose I'm glad I didn't put it down without finishing it。 。。。more
