The illustrations are so beautiful, including the endpapers。 A little boy tells what it's like inside a mosque。 the people are all different and everyone is welcome。 They take off their shoes and he is hugged by his auntie。 He snuggles with his dad and listens to the comforting sound of their words。 People pray and read lines of the Quoran。 The iman tells stories, aunties wear their hijabs like a sea of flowers。 They help others and collect food for them。 He and his friends play hide and seek。 t The illustrations are so beautiful, including the endpapers。 A little boy tells what it's like inside a mosque。 the people are all different and everyone is welcome。 They take off their shoes and he is hugged by his auntie。 He snuggles with his dad and listens to the comforting sound of their words。 People pray and read lines of the Quoran。 The iman tells stories, aunties wear their hijabs like a sea of flowers。 They help others and collect food for them。 He and his friends play hide and seek。 they pray for peace just like their friends in churches, temples, synagogues。 very nice introduction to a mosque 。。。more

This book does a great job of showing what it feels like for a young one to go to mosque on a day of worship without actually talking about the Islamic religion。 A little kid doesn't get what's going on with the adults so much。 They just know what the community feels like in this place and time。This would be good for diversity or community themed storytimes。 This book does a great job of showing what it feels like for a young one to go to mosque on a day of worship without actually talking about the Islamic religion。 A little kid doesn't get what's going on with the adults so much。 They just know what the community feels like in this place and time。This would be good for diversity or community themed storytimes。 。。。more

This one is a 3。5 for me, and I am pleased to have such a colorful and important picture book for my collection。 With illustrations created with scanned images of ink washes, patterns, and textures that were then finished digitally, the book provides a good introduction to Islam and what happens in a mosque。 The opening pages are inviting, and every page describes some of the practices and activities。 For instance, anyone entering the mosque must first remove his/her/their shoes。 There is a feel This one is a 3。5 for me, and I am pleased to have such a colorful and important picture book for my collection。 With illustrations created with scanned images of ink washes, patterns, and textures that were then finished digitally, the book provides a good introduction to Islam and what happens in a mosque。 The opening pages are inviting, and every page describes some of the practices and activities。 For instance, anyone entering the mosque must first remove his/her/their shoes。 There is a feeling of warmth and welcome as well as discussion of greetings, messages from the imam, and prayers, and attendees of all ages are present。 But it quickly becomes clear that the mosque isn't just a center for religion and worship but also one around which the community can rally, doing good deeds, enjoying food and playing after the prayers。 The book's purpose is summed up on those last pages: "In my mosque, we pray for peace, love, and joy。。。just like my friends who worship in churches, temples, and synagogues" (unpaged)。 Sometimes all that is needed is a simple book such as this that can address xenophobia or fight ignorance about a religion or a culture through basic information。 The back matter includes a glossary, information about mosques, and a list of well-known or historic mosques found around the world。 Youngsters would find it eye-opening to compare what happens in their place of worship to what it described here。 The only way we will ever stop conflict and eradicate prejudice is through hands-on experiences or perhaps through books such as this one that demystify what is not understood or that challenge assumptions。 Sharing this book with others might be a good first step toward that understanding。 。。。more

This book was such a joy to read! The words read like a poem, and the illustrations popped off of the pages in beautiful colors。 As a child I would have loved to see a book like this in my classroom, library, or any bookstore。 It brings wonderful inclusion to kids all around the world, and can be a great resource to dismantle the stigma's around Islam。 This book was such a joy to read! This book is completely gorgeous。 Being Jewish myself, I don't know a lot about Islam and this book is a wonderful introduction to the community you might find in a mosque。 The text is simple and inviting, the illustrations completely stunning (my favorite is the page with the text, "I understand--we are all connected and come from the same Creator" with the mosaic that spreads out from a young girl's face and hijab)。 There is also some wonderful educational material in the back of the book that This book is completely gorgeous。 Being Jewish myself, I don't know a lot about Islam and this book is a wonderful introduction to the community you might find in a mosque。 The text is simple and inviting, the illustrations completely stunning (my favorite is the page with the text, "I understand--we are all connected and come from the same Creator" with the mosaic that spreads out from a young girl's face and hijab)。 There is also some wonderful educational material in the back of the book that talks about holy sites in Islam and famous mosques on various continents。This book is an utter gem。 I'm so glad I own a copy of my own to return to whenever I want to read it and appreciate its brilliant illustrations again。 。。。more
