Summary

I was in college when the asteroid hit, and all my dreams and ambitions went up in smoke along with more than half the planet。 Now I'm left eking out a treacherous existence in the lonely, violent world that remains。 Everyone who loved me is gone, and I'm stuck depending on Zed, my former stepdad's younger brother。 I never liked him, but he and his four-year-old daughter are the only people I have left。

The small world we've built for ourselves in the past five years is crumbling at the edges。 Our food is running out。 So soon we'll have to leave our home and travel a dangerous road in search of safety that might not exist anymore。 To make it worse, I'm hit with new feelings for Zed and start wanting things from him that I can never have。

I know better than to put my hope in romantic daydreams。 This has become a world without heroes, and the happiest ending is just to survive。

Note: Hero is a short, steamy post-apocalyptic romance。 This title was originally intended to be Mack and Anna's book, but their story has been postponed until later in the series。 Hero features a different couple。

I do love this series。 It’s a really interesting world with a lot of serious issues without getting too boggled down in the evil of mankind that can arise from these situations, while still having there be a present and active threat of it。 If there were more, I wouldn’t enjoy it。 If there were less, it probably wouldn’t be realistic enough。 This couple specifically is…I’m not sure how to express it。 I liked them both but I felt something was held back。 I’m not sure I felt their love as deeply a I do love this series。 It’s a really interesting world with a lot of serious issues without getting too boggled down in the evil of mankind that can arise from these situations, while still having there be a present and active threat of it。 If there were more, I wouldn’t enjoy it。 If there were less, it probably wouldn’t be realistic enough。 This couple specifically is…I’m not sure how to express it。 I liked them both but I felt something was held back。 I’m not sure I felt their love as deeply as others。 It all seemed fairly circumstantial and convenient。 I was pretty sure he’d loved her for a while but the way he held back wasn’t satisfying to me。 And the way she held back didn’t make sense to me。 I really appreciated that she had an anxiety issue, and that she dealt with it multiple times throughout the story。 It felt real to me and an important thing to mention about her as a character。 I’m not sure what I’m really saying here, except that something was missing to really get me invested in their relationship。 I was just sorta along for the ride, same as them。 It could have been a lot more。 Instead it was just pages turned and a decent story told。 。。。more

The author starts off by saying she ended up writing about a different couple than the one she intended。 I was totally fine with that because I have no interest in Mack and Anna from the previous books。 So how did I feel about Esther and Zed? Well。。。 sadly there's not much to say。 This was a very short book and I didn't learn much about them。 Zed was very one-dimensional and Esther kind of annoyed me。 This story is very simple and usually this author excels at making a simple story come alive, b The author starts off by saying she ended up writing about a different couple than the one she intended。 I was totally fine with that because I have no interest in Mack and Anna from the previous books。 So how did I feel about Esther and Zed? short but oh so sweetI loved the depiction of anxiety and panic attacks in this because it felt so accurate and relatable。 Plus their slowburn romance was adorable to watch。 I definitely choked up during the high-drama part。 Rina was freaking adorable。 What a little cutie。

Another engaging story in this survival-after-impact series, I really enjoyed it。 It has action, bad guys, very 'real' steamy romance scenes between our H/h, a cute five year old and a dog。 What's not to love。。。 😍 Another engaging story in this survival-after-impact series, I really enjoyed it。 It has action, bad guys, very 'real' steamy romance scenes between our H/h, a cute five year old and a dog。 What's not to love。。。 😍 。。。more

love love loveI just love this series so much and had been checking all month hoping it had released early。 So of course I had to immediately open and start reading it when it was released today (pre-ordered the e-book)。 Loved everything about it so much! And I’m over the moon she’s continuing the series。 Can’t recommend it enough!

This series just gets better and better! I absolutely loved the relationship between Esther and Zed, and with Rina。 I personally love single parent romances (especially single dads with younger kids) so this book was amazing for me as someone who loves that trope and post-apocalyptic romances。 Without spoiling anything, I cried at multiple points (for those of you who’ve read it, especially just before Maria turned up), and the spice was written really well。 I really enjoyed reading about how th This series just gets better and better! An amazing 4th installment! I felt everything right along with the characters, and I was brought to tears a few times during this story。 Zed and Esther were just perfection, and I so enjoyed watching their relationship progress。 Rina (and Buddy too!) added a fun and uplifting element to the story。 There is something about this post-apocalyptic world that really resonates with me and gets me so invested in this universe。 I also really could relate to Esther's anxiety and thought Zed did a great j An amazing 4th installment! Hero is another great entry in Kent’s series showing how humanity can still be “human” after an apocalypse。 This book takes a bit of a different spin in that it’s about one family in the wild, and how they end up connected to the communities set up in earlier books。One thing Kent does really well in this series is illustrate that not everything is perfect for the protagonists—the idea that the bad stuff happens to peripheral characters, not the main ones, is never in play in this series。 Esther Hero is another great entry in Kent’s series showing how humanity can still be “human” after an apocalypse。 This book takes a bit of a different spin in that it’s about one family in the wild, and how they end up connected to the communities set up in earlier books。One thing Kent does really well in this series is illustrate that not everything is perfect for the protagonists—the idea that the bad stuff happens to peripheral characters, not the main ones, is never in play in this series。 Esther and Zed start out as part of a large group, one that slowly dwindles as the consequences of catastrophe take their toll。 Zed has a child from an earlier relationship, and she’s a huge binding factor between him and Esther。 In Hero, we see them discover reasons within one another to create additional bonds。One thing Esther and Zed have to confront in this book is what becomes your ambition when something cataclysmic happens。 Dealing with change is also a huge part of Hero; it’s easy to fall into the comfort of habit, so how do they address change when it’s needed in their known world? There are a couple of fortuitous encounters in Hero, but I could accept them as necessary to move the plot forward。 I also loved how Kent makes Zed and Esther both examine their priorities to determine what they want from life。The book is told entirely from Esther’s POV, so by default we know more of what she’s confronting, particularly dealing with anxiety (something I enjoyed seeing depicted in apocalyptic romance for once)。 Zed is more enigmatic by default, but Kent has subtle ways of demonstrating his emotional path as well。This whole series is a gem in post-apocalyptic romance, a subgenre that’s often dark and grim。 Kent shows you how rays of light can emerge from that darkness, and it’s a take I deeply appreciate reading。 。。。more

Ohhh I loved this one so much! This series has truly reignited my love for post apocalyptic themes while also keeping my love of romance alive。 Zed might be my favorite hero from this series so far (I have a feeling Mack will take over once his book is written, but for now it’s Zed) He’s a playful friend and protector to Esther and an amazing father to Rina。 I love that he understands Esther and knows when she’s bottling up her emotions。 He seems to be the only person who can open her up。 I’m a Ohhh I loved this one so much! Love this series!!Ohhh! Loved the more complex FMC and “average Joe” MMC in this story。 It was great to have characters who were not total bada$$ all the time and had their stuff together。 It was great that she didn’t even really like the MMC at first。 When they got down to the get down, WHEW!! 🔥🔥🔥This book was intense! Roller coaster of emotions! Have your tissues ready!

Well this book is prime example of my lack of self control。 I just started reading the series maybe 3 days ago and I'm in love。 So when I finally got to this book and it wasn't released for another two days, yes I got lucky on that one。 I pre-ordered it, right now it finally downloaded it on my Kindle; surprisingly a few hours earlier then its actual release date。 And so as soon as it finished downloading I read it and I just now finished reading it all in one fantastic day or a handful of hours Well this book is prime example of my lack of self control。 I just started reading the series maybe 3 days ago and I'm in love。 So when I finally got to this book and it wasn't released for another two days, yes I got lucky on that one。 I pre-ordered it, right now it finally downloaded it on my Kindle; surprisingly a few hours earlier then its actual release date。 And so as soon as it finished downloading I read it and I just now finished reading it all in one fantastic day or a handful of hours。 And I really liked it it was worth every penny I spent on the pre-order I just love every couple that this author gives us not to say that they're perfect or that I don't have some complaints because that would not be true but I really do overall enjoy this series。 I will say this couples romance was not as fulfilling as some of the other ones were。 Not that I didn't enjoy them but they definitely had a forbidden romance and they don't ever really address the part that it's kind of forbidden he brings up the fact that she's younger a lot but the fact that it's literally her step uncle is not really talked about how they're technically related。 Or the fact that i felt like they jumped into bed together incredibly fast with little to no real emotions toward each other。 Another small complaint I have with this author would be my pinch of criticism, if you will, is that she says the phrase "silly whimpers" or "silly moans" so many times in all her books。 Not every whimper has to be silly sometimes a whimper is just well a whimper。 Overall I really did enjoy the characters in this I thought they were very moving and soft I loved the aspect of child in the world。 Rina was a delight to read about。 And I definitely will continue reading more from the series as more are published I am so grateful to have stumbled upon this author。Trigger Warnings:Post apocalyptic worldDeath/violenceLoss of loved onesMention of rape 。。。more

Claire Kent's Kindled series always feel so warmly comfortable, which is odd since they're post-apocalyptic。 But there's something about every book being so centered on good people who are just trying to love and take care of each other at the end of the world that is so heartwarming。 "Hero" is more of the same and in this series, that's a good thing。 Zed and Esther, who are vaguely related by marriage, are trying to take care of his young daughter, Rina, while they slowly run out of food。 As ti Claire Kent's Kindled series always feel so warmly comfortable, which is odd since they're post-apocalyptic。 But there's something about every book being so centered on good people who are just trying to love and take care of each other at the end of the world that is so heartwarming。 "Hero" is more of the same and in this series, that's a good thing。 Zed and Esther, who are vaguely related by marriage, are trying to take care of his young daughter, Rina, while they slowly run out of food。 As time passes, they have to make a dangerous move for better long-term survival。Like in many books in the series, these are two people who probably would not have ended up together if the world had stayed the same, so they have to answer the question, "Are we together because there's nobody else?"
