Summary

A heartbroken faerie queen in search of an evening of escape awakens the heart of a grumpy wolf warrior who will bring kingdoms to their knees to claim her。

When I was young, I was told that my true love would be a faerie king。 I didn’t heed the warning。
I tumbled into love as soon as our eyes first met, unaware that he wasn’t what he seemed。

My king wanted marriage, power, devotion, and a family。 He had all but one, and as our kingdom stood upon the precipice of ruin, the weight of failure tore us apart。
Though it was not the war but his betrayal that sent me running to a foreign land。

And straight into the arms of a one-eyed warrior。

The wolf was a weapon of heartless destruction, a rogue without a real name, and nothing I was allowed to want。
A week spent within his city and the walls of his threadbare home was all it took to irrevocably change everything。

And nothing at all。

For there was no escaping the life I’d once thought I’d cherish forever。 My kingdom was dying and my king would soon start searching for his missing queen。
Attempting to keep all I’d found in the heartache he’d caused would only create more。

So I fled from the wolf who hadn’t learned my true identity, and I returned to my kingdom with a silent vow to heal my torn heart。 I would try to forgive my faithless husband and accept my bloodstained future。

But those meddlesome fates had other plans。

The warrior I’d left without warning was born a hunter and conditioned to be a monster。 An alpha in his own right, he would accept nothing less than what he hungered for。
Even if the battle of his life delivered our hearts to their doom and our kingdoms to their knees。
_

A standalone fantasy romance that takes place in the same world as The Savage and the Swan。 Can be read on its own。 Contains spice and a HEA。 No cliffhanger。

I have mixed feelings。One one hand, the plot and story line is investing, but the writing and lack of world building really tanks it。The start of this book is "steamy" but so slow。 This book starts out with our FMC Aster being found in a bar by the MMC。 We get little snippets of what she is running from but it somehow all feel lackluster and hard to relate because you really haven't gotten to know any of the characters enough to care yet。 It feels like we're starting out in the middle of the sto I have mixed feelings。One one hand, the plot and story line is investing, but the writing and lack of world building really tanks it。The start of this book is "steamy" but so slow。 This book starts out with our FMC Aster being found in a bar by the MMC。 We get little snippets of what she is running from but it somehow all feel lackluster and hard to relate because you really haven't gotten to know any of the characters enough to care yet。 It feels like we're starting out in the middle of the story without context。 As far as the world building, it's non-existent。 You have a rich area to explore, with this being an all Fae cast of characters and different countries/kingdoms, but it brushed over like unimportant details。 This authors is really one that tells, not shows but it makes for really bland reading。 As for the characters, honestly they all seem so immature and and under developed。 Do I think this author is bad? No。 But I do think they are starting out and will definitely improve。 I will look forward to trying more of her work as her plot was good, just the execution needs polishing。 。。。more

3。25 stars ⭐️ Ngl I almost ditched this book bc the beginning was so freaking dragged out and repetitive。 Like okay we get it。。 normally I’m all for lots of spice but the spicy scenes were so redundant I got bored。 BUT。 At the 30% mark things got far more interesting。 And the big twist at the end definitely surprised me。 But I had a hard time connecting to the characters or finding their story interesting。 I feel like Ella’s last few books try to communicate love through sex alone- and that just 3。25 stars ⭐️ Ngl I almost ditched this book bc the beginning was so freaking dragged out and repetitive。 Like okay we get it。。 normally I’m all for lots of spice but the spicy scenes were so redundant I got bored。 BUT。 At the 30% mark things got far more interesting。 And the big twist at the end definitely surprised me。 But I had a hard time connecting to the characters or finding their story interesting。 I feel like Ella’s last few books try to communicate love through sex alone- and that just doesn’t make a great romance for me。 。。。more

great fantasy Aster and Scythe’s story is passionate and loving。 They’re destined soulmates that find each other at the wrong time but they always find their way back to each other。 This whole book I was fighting for them to have their HEA as they fought separation from each other, wars, and spouses。 And because fate is a beautiful thing they are able to conquer everything and find their happiness together。

Too much sex。 Just too much。 The book would have been half the size if she had cut out a portion of the sex。 I loved the first one of this series, and I was so excited about this。 I wish she had focused more on the plot and relationship development because I genuinely liked the characters。 I liked the love interest and was intrigued by her husband (surprisingly)。 But when there is too much sex in a book, you start to wonder why they are in love。 Like, why do you love him? 5⭐️!!!Not only was I not expecting Ella Fields to write another book in this world (savage and the swan is one of my favorite books EVER), but i deeeeefinitely wasn’t expecting to love it even more than savage and the swan!!Ella is so good at writing angst/pain, I felt every word of it。 The GASP I let out at that twist too。 And that epilogue????? UGH。 And seeing all the characters from the first book again made it even better。 Y’all, I loved this book。Ms。 Fields has done it again!!

I've said this in my updates about this book - but I TRULY think Ella Fields is such an underrated fantasy author。 She has other romance genre novels, but fantasy writing is where she truly shines。 A SHORT PREVIEW: When Aster and Rorn fell in love, they never dreamed that life ruling a kingdom would be the thing that tears them apart。 Ruling isn't everything when money can't buy you the few things you desperately crave。 Betraying each other, Aster flees the country and falls in love with another I've said this in my updates about this book - but I TRULY think Ella Fields is such an underrated fantasy author。 She has other romance genre novels, but fantasy writing is where she truly shines。 A SHORT PREVIEW: When Aster and Rorn fell in love, they never dreamed that life ruling a kingdom would be the thing that tears them apart。 Ruling isn't everything when money can't buy you the few things you desperately crave。 Betraying each other, Aster flees the country and falls in love with another but leaves him in an attempt to spare him from her husband's wrath。 The wolf she leaves behind? He's not as keen on the idea, though。 Thoughts: Overall, this story makes no bones about the consequences of infidelity and failed marriages。 It's got such serious topics spilling across the pages, that much of it doesn't feel like a light fantasy romance? Tbh - I think this is why I loved it so much。 Her writing feels like real emotions and can tug real feelings from you。 - I read this in exactly 9 hours because it was so good I basically flew through all the pages!! - Another thing I loved about this book is that it so clearly shows the dangers of getting too wrapped up in your partner。 Leaving behind friends, your interests etc。。 healthy love shouldn't make you lose yourself。 FAVORITE QUOTE: "Rorn would never hurt me - not physically。 Nor would he allow anyone else to。 I once thought that made him nothing short of magical。 Then I learned there were numerous ways to bleed。' - When you recognize that a character's disillusionment in what it means to be in love has shattered 。。。 that's when the good stuff comes in。 NOTES: - fated mates (complete with the alpha-hole shifter type)- world building -- super fun because this builds off of The Savage & The Swan, which I also loved!! - Very much an adult romance, and I added it to my 'mature women's romance' bookshelf here because the main character is in her 30's。 TWs: infertility, cheating, children outside of the marriage etc。 (This one def got me to cry a little! I didn't know cheating would be involved in the wayyy it was written so I wasn't expecting it。) 。。。more

GoodHeart wrenching story that kept me captivated。I loved the start of the book, I glad that author gave us time to settle in into the story。 Romance was so tender and adorable, I liked main male hero Scythe, he was ruthless warrior with tender soul。Also I adored main female heroine Aster, she was great。 Maybe I wanted her in the end to be more cold-hearted, but probably it would be out character for her, so it is how it is。 First part of the book was perfection, second part some quality anguish GoodHeart wrenching story that kept me captivated。I loved the start of the book, I glad that author gave us time to settle in into the story。 Romance was so tender and adorable, I liked main male hero Scythe, he was ruthless warrior with tender soul。Also I adored main female heroine Aster, she was great。 Maybe I wanted her in the end to be more cold-hearted, but probably it would be out character for her, so it is how it is。 First part of the book was perfection, second part some quality anguish and hurt it was really sad but still interested, third part of the book was less interesting although a lot happened and some parts I didn't like。 For example I find it unsatisfactory that they left humans live and that Rorn almost get away with everything he done to our heroes。 I felt conflicted, because I wanted him to suffer and he did in the end but somehow it wasn't enough。 I wanted my heroes to be more villainy and less forgiving。 。。。more

Too much sex。 It was just too much。 The first one was better。 I liked it but they could of cut the book in half if she focused on the plot more than the sex。 Shame。 I loved the characters。

How to describe my awe and love for this book。。 A dark haired male(with one green eye) walks into a tavern。 The rest is history。。 just kidding。 There's undeniable chemistry and a love worth crossing kingdoms for。。 The fated destiny of a girl to marry a king。 But what happens when a king betrays her and leaves her heart broken beyond repair? Was he the one she was truly destined for? The writing is what immediately drew me in。 I'm a sucker for poetic wording and whimsical description。 It was just How to describe my awe and love for this book。。 A dark haired male(with one green eye) walks into a tavern。 The rest is history。。 just kidding。 There's undeniable chemistry and a love worth crossing kingdoms for。。 The fated destiny of a girl to marry a king。 But what happens when a king betrays her and leaves her heart broken beyond repair? What is it about Ella’s books that make me both read it in one sitting but also already planning on when I’m going to read it again…while I’m still reading it?! Ugh I need to read savage and the swan again and come back to this book! A day spent with Ella is a great day!

I couldn’t put this downThis book took me by complete surprise。 The characters were flawed but completely relatable。 Heartbreak is heartbreak no matter if you are human or Fae, man or woman, king or wolf。 War is savage and the devastation it leaves behind is corrosive。 The twists and turns quite surprised me once the story completely unfolded。 I loved Aster and the wolf, trying to make an impossible situation possible。

It was heartbreaking in lots of ways but still made sure to stay true to that promised HEA。 In some ways, it’s also something I’ve never read about。 But I still liked it very much。 The first book I’ve read after months of being in a slump。 I’m not sure if I’m intrigued enough to read Dade and Opal’s story though。 We’ll see。
