Summary

24 Merrion Square。 The house stands empty, the old stone steps overgrown with thorny rose bushes。 But Mary Kate feels a deep connection to the neglected, silent rooms。 Could this be the place to help her heal?

Dublin 1952。 When Mary Kate Ryan receives a surprise inheritance from the woman who abandoned her as a tiny baby, she’s stunned。 All her life, she has longed to know why her mother disappeared, and now she’s devastated to realise that every lonely night she spent without a home or family of her own, her mother knew exactly where she was。

Mary Kate is about to refuse the money when she sees a beautiful, deserted house for sale and something sparks in her heart。 She will reawaken it, as the Dublin Boarding House for Single Ladies, and provide a shelter for others as lost and alone as her。 Can she help the two young girls left at the local orphanage, desperate for a home of their own? Or the pregnant teenager on the run, who only wants to keep her baby safe?

The boarding house brings Mary Kate love and friendships she never dreamed of, but just as her heart is about to burst with joy, a new guest arrives。 The stern older woman won’t speak about her past, but when Mary Kate uncovers her story, it reveals a devastating secret about her mother。 With her life in turmoil once more, can Mary Kate draw on the strength of the women in the house to help her face her past, or will the tragedy she uncovers spell disaster for them all…?

A heart-wrenching story full of family secrets。 Perfect for fans of Jean Grainger, Lisa Wingate and Diney Costeloe。

a good beach read。 While not the best book, it was charming。 After I have read so many dark and/or intense books, it was a nice change to read something light and the pace kept moving。 At first it was hard to keep up with the characters, but then it came together。

Really liked this story, the perfect feel-good read that I needed during the Christmas season。 I read this one much quicker than I do most of my reading but only because I couldn't wait to see who Mary Kate was going to bless next。 What a delightful story。 Really liked this story, the perfect feel-good read that I needed during the Christmas season。 I read this one much quicker than I do most of my reading but only because I couldn't wait to see who Mary Kate was going to bless next。 What a delightful story。 。。。more

The Irish Boarding House This was a delightful book。 I loved each character and how interaction of them。 The character of Mary Kate was such a joy to watch how she evolved into the lady with the help of all of the people who would become her friends。 Each character had own story which made you want to know what would happen next。

Despite the fact that I read a LOT and I'm usually happy with the books I read it takes a lot to get a five star rating from me。 Five stars is pretty much saying the book was perfect。 And that's what I'm saying。 One of my very favorite authors in the entire world is Maeve Binchy and this felt just like I was reading a Maeve Binchy novel。 If you had taken the author's name away and told me they found a new Maeve Binchy novel and this was it, I absolutely would believe it。One of the very best thin Despite the fact that I read a LOT and I'm usually happy with the books I read it takes a lot to get a five star rating from me。 Five stars is pretty much saying the book was perfect。 And that's what I'm saying。 One of my very favorite authors in the entire world is Maeve Binchy and this felt just like I was reading a Maeve Binchy novel。 If you had taken the author's name away and told me they found a new Maeve Binchy novel and this was it, I absolutely would believe it。One of the very best things about Irish novels is the majority have a minor plot line and are character driven with the most interesting characters。 Since the setting is obviously the titular boarding house you know there's going to be a lot of characters, but not only does Sandy Taylor do an excellent job of explaining them in a way that you can keep straight, but she fully, intimately knows each character。 That means there aren't any one or two dimensional characters。 Each one is a fully thought out, fully realized person from the time we meet them。 And since the characters and their circumstances are all unique and Interesting you care about these people almost immediately。 I hate books where I have to struggle to like the main character or an important supporting character。 That's not the case here。This is a moving story about a middle-aged woman, Mary Kate Ryan, who has spent most of her adult life staying in one bad rooming house room after another。 An opportunity arises for her to purchase a large home of her own and she does - turning into it into exactly the kind of boarding house she always wished existed - the boarding house she would have liked to stay at。 Mary Kate envisions pretty colors and lovely, but comfortable furniture。 She also imagines friendly, cheerful boarders who have a nice word to say to her and each other as they go about their lives。 What never crosses her mind is that the gals in her all female house will become a family。 I assume some of them finish their education, get married, take other jobs and move on with their lives as people do。 But, for a moment in time we get a window to their lives as females of all ages, backgrounds, and circumstances come together to form a little family。 A family that looks after each other, defends, one another, teases and loves each other。 A family that makes you feel warm and privileged to have gotten to see this slice of their life。 If you like character driven stories filled with rich, full, colorful Irish you can't go wrong with "The Irish Boarding House。" P。S。 As a bonus for me, this was my first Sandy Taylor book so now I get to read all her other books! 。。。more

The Irish Boarding House is by Sandy Taylor。 This novel is set in Dublin, Ireland in the 1950’s。 It is an historical fiction that grabs your emotions and wrings them out。 You don’t want to story to end。 Mary Kate Ryan was abandoned by her parents when she was just a baby。 At least her mother left her with her Grandparents who loved her and raised her in a loving; but poor home。 They lived in Tanner Row in a single-family home in an area that bred damp, mold, and disease。 No electricity and no in The Irish Boarding House is by Sandy Taylor。 This novel is set in Dublin, Ireland in the 1950’s。 It is an historical fiction that grabs your emotions and wrings them out。 You don’t want to story to end。 Mary Kate Ryan was abandoned by her parents when she was just a baby。 At least her mother left her with her Grandparents who loved her and raised her in a loving; but poor home。 They lived in Tanner Row in a single-family home in an area that bred damp, mold, and disease。 No electricity and no indoor plumbing; but plenty of love。 However, when both her grandparents died, she was ejected from her home as it was rented to her grandfather not her。 After living in a series of horrible boarding houses and not finding a job, she had decided to commit suicide。 However, her grandfather had insisted she rent a post box in case she got a letter。 Over the past fifteen years, she hadn’t received one; but on this day, she did。 It would change her life and the lives of several other poor girls。 The book just grabs you and won’t let go。 Second chances are definitely out there for everyone if you just take the time to look for them。 。。。more

A Heartfelt Gentle StoryI enjoyed this story as it unfolded and it’s mysteries explained。 I enjoyed the Irish slang, delivered with humour & I’m sure with a twinkle in the eye。 It left a wholesome feeling & a warmth in the heart。 I’m of Irish descent so I felt I was on home ground。 Thank you Sandy Taylor

Complete enjoyment beginning to endThis book is a cuddle up and immerse yourself in the story kind of book。 There were many characters and I enjoyed meeting them ALL。 The story has a fairy tale quality and sometimes I need these kinds of books wedged between books that challenge my brain to think deeply or that challenge me to reflect upon the evils in the world。

RefreshingHow many of us have have wondered what we would do if we suddenly received s fortune? This book is about a woman who did。Of course it changed her life。 It is a story of kindness, generosity and love。 I found it very refreshing。 There was no foul language or steamy bedroom scenes。 If only there were more people like Mary Kate in our lives。

Almost perfectbut that would have been too, too perfect。 A lovely story, sweetly sad! Imperfect people, living their lives in a house with a Red Door。 A red door, so very Irish。
