Summary

A riveting novel of psychological suspense about perfect lives and hidden secrets by New York Times bestselling author T。R。 Ragan。

Nora Harmon has a lot to be thankful for: two great kids, a stable marriage, and now, a dream career。 Software consultant Jane Bell wants Nora on her team。 She’s offering a fantastic salary, flexible hours, and a chance to travel the world。 It sounds too good to be true, but Jane won’t take no for an answer。

Jane acts more like a friend than a boss, and Nora’s personal and professional boundaries begin to blur。 Jane is smitten with Nora’s perfect family—particularly her daughter—and far too attentive to Nora’s husband。 Nora can’t help but feel insecure and unsettled。

Maybe Jane is everything she says she is: a lonely woman in need of feeling the love of a kind and decent family。 Maybe Nora is just being paranoid。

Fast read, but predictable and frustrating。 The characters were so blind to what was clearly in front of them。 I found myself skimming to find when it unfolded because I knew what was going to happen。 Rushed and over the top ending。 Two stars because I would have loved the family outside of the conflict, and also for Trevor and Tank。 Definitely the best characters。

Jane Bell wants Nora on her team in her soaring business as a software consultant。 Nora's husband, David, convinces her it's the right choice to make, but she hesitates before accepting, because it all sounds too good to be true。 And you know what they say about things that seem too good to be true。。。I guessed the entire plot by 15% of the book。 It made the characters seem kinda stupid for not figuring it out sooner。 The writing is simple, it's a quick read, but please suspend your disbelief bef Jane Bell wants Nora on her team in her soaring business as a software consultant。 Nora's husband, David, convinces her it's the right choice to make, but she hesitates before accepting, because it all sounds too good to be true。 And you know what they say about things that seem too good to be true。。。I guessed the entire plot by 15% of the book。 It made the characters seem kinda stupid for not figuring it out sooner。 The writing is simple, it's a quick read, but please suspend your disbelief before getting into this as it is very far-fetched。I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily。 。。。more

Such a Beautiful Family by T。R。 Ragan is a highly recommended psychological thriller。Nora and David Harmon are happily married and the parents of two children, a 15-year-old daughter, Hailey; and a 13-year-old son, Trevor。 Sure, they have a few issues but they all love and support each other。 When Jane Bell, the owner of a software company, starts contacting and courting Nora to come and work for her company, it seems too good to be true。 Nora is reluctant but decides to accept the offer。 She li Such a Beautiful Family by T。R。 Ragan is a highly recommended psychological thriller。Nora and David Harmon are happily married and the parents of two children, a 15-year-old daughter, Hailey; and a 13-year-old son, Trevor。 Sure, they have a few issues but they all love and support each other。 When Jane Bell, the owner of a software company, starts contacting and courting Nora to come and work for her company, it seems too good to be true。 Nora is reluctant but decides to accept the offer。 She likes the job and Jane, who is aggressively pursuing a friendship with Nora and her family。 But Jane is overstepping all sorts of personal boundaries and inserting herself into Nora's home life。 Is she simply lonely or is something more nefarious in the works。First things first, start the novel knowing that you need to suspend disbelief right at the start。 Once most people had an employer trying to be a friend and a part of your family daily, they would set some firm boundaries very quickly and perhaps even leaving the job asap。 Even the most open-minded and accepting couples would put an end to Jane's behavior。 Once you set the disbelief aside, this is a well-written thriller that moves at a rapid pace and is entertaining throughout。 The fast pace helps keep your focus on the narrative and overlook some of the more improbable events in the plot。There isn't a great deal of character development among the cast, with the exceptions being Nora and Trevor。 They are are likable and portrayed as realistic individuals with depth。 David is a bit too milquetoast to be believable as he never tells Jane to back off and go home。 Hailey is a typical teen impressed by what Jane gives her。 But, set this lack aside because the focus is on figuring out what Jane's end game is and using good sense to tell her to back off would make for a short plot。Such a Beautiful Family is a page turner that held my attention throughout because it is fast-paced with short chapters and keeps moving relentlessly to the end。 The ending is exciting and worth overlooking any flaws to get there。 Disclosure: My review copy was courtesy of Thomas & Mercer via NetGalley。http://www。shetreadssoftly。com/2022/1。。。 。。。more

I’m new to this author but unfortunately this book felt a bit like amateur hour。 The writing was simplistic, the plot boring, and the characters all mind numbingly terrible at making decisions。 The story follows Nora who is given a job offer of a lifetime by a woman named Jane。 However Jane borders on being obsessed with her family and Nora is starting to get creeped out。 Is there more to Jane than she realized? The prologue does open with a bang but there’s nothing after。 My biggest issue is Nor I’m new to this author but unfortunately this book felt a bit like amateur hour。 The writing was simplistic, the plot boring, and the characters all mind numbingly terrible at making decisions。 The story follows Nora who is given a job offer of a lifetime by a woman named Jane。 However Jane borders on being obsessed with her family and Nora is starting to get creeped out。 Is there more to Jane than she realized? The prologue does open with a bang but there’s nothing after。 My biggest issue is Nora’s utterly idiotic husband。 My husband would have gone screaming in the other direction if my boss started coming over and cooking dinner for him or showing up if I was out of town。 It takes a special kind of stupid to ignore all those red flags。 That’s only the tip of the iceberg - if she wanted to take revenge why did she go months wooing Nora? She could have killed her at any point earlier。 Why did her parents create so much secrecy over a throwaway point? Why hadn’t Nora ever looked up what had happened? So many questions, so few answers。 So little motivation to even dig any further。 This book was definitely not for me。 。。。more

I’d seen some glowing reviews of this book, not an author I’ve read before so was eager to give it a go。 Nora has a happy family life, happily married, two children, you know something’s going to go wrong, or someone’s going to disrupt their balance。 Not a nanny, a housekeeper, a younger woman or an ex-wife… Nora lands her dream job, it seems perfect, apart from her (female) boss Jane。 Jane is a great character, a high achieving driven dragon at work, while lonely, clingy and insecure in her per I’d seen some glowing reviews of this book, not an author I’ve read before so was eager to give it a go。 Nora has a happy family life, happily married, two children, you know something’s going to go wrong, or someone’s going to disrupt their balance。 Not a nanny, a housekeeper, a younger woman or an ex-wife… Nora lands her dream job, it seems perfect, apart from her (female) boss Jane。 Jane is a great character, a high achieving driven dragon at work, while lonely, clingy and insecure in her personal life。 How will Nora cope with the pressures of her new job and her new boss / ‘best friend’ infringing on her family life? There’s some nice humour especially in the marital strife as Jane starts cosying up to Nora’s husband Dave and the family。 It’s at the gentler, mild and clean end of the thriller spectrum, but it flows really nicely, is very structured and held my interest。Recommended if you enjoy the gentler domestic thrillers。 Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer 。。。more

So, in a nutshell, Nora gets single-white-femaled。 Unfortunately, the book was kind of predictable and Nora isn’t very bright。 She does not see what is right in front of her nor stand up for herself before it went too far。 Instead, she worried about how these things made her look。 I will continue to read TR Ragan books and this one had some really interesting family relationships。

Such a Beautiful Family is a riveting but very twisted domestic thriller。 It is a real page turner, and I couldn't stop reading until I finished it。Nora gets a job offer she didn't ask or apply for。 Jane invites Nora and her husband for a dinner interview。 Jane promises Nora flexible hours, no travel, double the pay of her present job and so much more。 If it seems to be too good to be true, then it probably is。 Even Nora questions the offer, but not the right questions。 But for the story's sake Such a Beautiful Family is a riveting but very twisted domestic thriller。 It is a real page turner, and I couldn't stop reading until I finished it。Nora gets a job offer she didn't ask or apply for。 Jane invites Nora and her husband for a dinner interview。 Jane promises Nora flexible hours, no travel, double the pay of her present job and so much more。 If it seems to be too good to be true, then it probably is。 Even Nora questions the offer, but not the right questions。 But for the story's sake she accepts the new job。 At first Nora is very happy, but Jane seems to insert herself as a member of the family。 Nora finds this unsettling after each occurrence but feels guilty about confronting Jane who appears to have no boundaries。 Slowly but surely, Jane ingratiates herself into the family dynamic。 Jane tells Nora about a business trip to Paris that they both need to go on。 Nora doesn't want to go, but she is guilted into going, but Jane doesn't show, and Nora goes by herself。 Nora calls home to find out that Jane has been at the house and cooked for them to help out while Nora was gone。When Nora returns from the trip her family barely welcomes her back。 And then she finds out her husband took Jane to a women's business award dinner wearing a tuxedo。 The events get worse until Nora has had enough。 Her father was recently diagnosed with dementia/Alzheimer and seems to be deteriorating quickly。 All of this guilt plus Jane forces Nora to make a rash decision to sell their family home and move closer to help her parents。 Jane's behavior escalates where everyone is in danger from secrets of the past。So, there are a few odd things that we don't know until later in the book。 The beginning starts with a girl getting a phone call from a friend at a party that needs help。 She goes to help but gets roofied and realizes she is now in trouble herself and drives off and gets into accident。 Next up Trevor, Nora's son has apparently had a lot of fears, but was bullied and nearly drowned recently on a trip the family took。 This accident has made him suspicious and less trusting when Jane "joins" the family。 Trevor has always wanted to build his own computer and tries to search for information on Jane。 But he is determined to find the truth when he comes up empty。 Hailey, Nora's daughter seems to be at that age where she starts to mistrust her mother and becomes secretive。 David works at home and seems to be the perfect and very trusting husband。 There are other characters, but the book mostly focuses the immediate family。Okay the story is a stretch, getting a job unsolicited, no referral, no resume, or an application。 But it's fiction and most stories are a stretch in one form or another。 In spite of this I did like the book and wanted to yell "wake up" repeatedly。 It was twisted but it was an enjoyable afternoon read。 。。。more

Having read and loved all books from this author, I was so excited to jump into this one。 However, I feeling slightly let down。 I think I had my hopes up too high。 The book is good but gave me in a "Lifetime movie network" vibe。 It was extremely predictable and I kept hoping a twist would jump out at me。 Sadly, it didn't。 While this is most definitely not my favorite from TR Ragan, I can't wait to see what she comes up with next。 Would I recommend this one? Yes to a cozy mystery reader but No to Having read and loved all books from this author, I was so excited to jump into this one。 However, I feeling slightly let down。 I think I had my hopes up too high。 The book is good but gave me in a "Lifetime movie network" vibe。 It was extremely predictable and I kept hoping a twist would jump out at me。 Sadly, it didn't。 While this is most definitely not my favorite from TR Ragan, I can't wait to see what she comes up with next。 Would I recommend this one?
