Summary

From New York Times bestselling author Tijan comes a raw, tempestuous romance between the criminal underworld and a parole officer that paints a thin line between right and wrong。

When Jess Montell meets Trace West at a hockey game, she doesn’t know his name or occupation。 What she does know is there’s an instant attraction that’s impossible to ignore—or forget。 And forgetting is exactly what she wants to do when she learns he’s not just a successful Wall Street suit but the heir to one of New York’s biggest Mafia families。

The last thing Trace needs is a romantic anything with law enforcement, and parole officer Jess has trouble written all over her。 Too bad he likes trouble。 Especially when it’s a brunette bombshell with attitude and legs for days。

She’s an absolute spitfire, and he wants to stoke that flame。

Trace didn’t ask for the Mafia life。 Jess doesn’t want any part of it。 They both know it’s safer to stay away, but the temptation is too hard to resist—no matter how great the danger。

✨ This book has a hold on me, and I don’t know how I’m supposed to wait for the next (there better be a next) to come out! ✨。Trace and Jess come from opposite worlds: The Mafia and Law Enforcement。 That doesn’t mean their chemistry isn’t off the charts, and their connection only gets stronger with every encounter。 。I loved everything about this book (even when Jess made me cranky a few times), and I will also need at least one spin-off。*cough* Ashton *cough* 。Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️。Read ✨ This book has a hold on me, and I don’t know how I’m supposed to wait for the next (there better be a next) to come out! ✨。Trace and Jess come from opposite worlds: The Mafia and Law Enforcement。 That doesn’t mean their chemistry isn’t off the charts, and their connection only gets stronger with every encounter。 。I loved everything about this book (even when Jess made me cranky a few times), and I will also need at least one spin-off。*cough* Ashton *cough* 。Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️。Read If You Like: ❤️‍🔥 Mafia Romance 🌃 Worlds Apart🧲 Instant Attraction🥵 Hate to Want You 🔪 Who did this to you? 😈 Morally Grey MMC 。A Dirty Business by Tijan will be available December 6!。Thank you Montlake publishing, NetGalley, and Tijan for this ARC! 。。。more

Jess & Trace"A Dirty Business" is the first book in Tijan's Kings of New York series and tells the story of Jess and Trace。 To be honest, I struggled a bit with the story and the characters。 At least the first 50 to 60 percent oft he story。 After that, the story got really exciting and good, but then this cliffhanger 😱 Unfortunately, I didn't really like the characters。 I found Jess very know-it-all most of the time and her behavior really bothered me。 I actually really liked Trace, but somehow Jess & Trace"A Dirty Business" is the first book in Tijan's Kings of New York series and tells the story of Jess and Trace。 To be honest, I struggled a bit with the story and the characters。 At least the first 50 to 60 percent oft he story。 After that, the story got really exciting and good, but then this cliffhanger 😱 Unfortunately, I didn't really like the characters。 I found Jess very know-it-all most of the time and her behavior really bothered me。 I actually really liked Trace, but somehow I never saw him as a real mafia prince。 The Mafia aspect of the story is only slightly present。 Trace is not a Mafiosi for me and a much too nice guy。 In contrast Ashton exudes more mafia vibes。 I'm very excited to see how things will continue。 "A Dirty Business" gets 3。5 out of 5 stars from me。Thank you to the author and NetGalley for providing me with ARC。 。。。more

They deserved better。This was on the lighter side for a mafia book, so if you’re new to the sub-genre, this could be a good option。I’m curious to see if the next installment will be from Ashton’s pov。 I’d love to get a glimpse from his perspective。TW: murder, alcoholic parent, cancer, drug overdose, torture, waterboarding, verbal abuse, mentions of cheating and physical abuse from side characters。 。。。more

This was really good。 Not surprising cause I’ve read Tijan before & was obsessed & here I am obsessed with another book。 Some of these characters gave me whip lash。 The fact that it left on a cliff hanger but not a cliff hanger at the same time?? I have to wait for the next book?? Also I think this is my sign to read more by Tijan :)

I liked the story, Trace and Jess meet by chance and sparks fly between them, but they are on opposite sides of the law, however the attraction is too intense to deny and soon they find themselves in a mess of danger and passion, I love the underlying tension between them, the way they can't help but give in to what they both feel。 This story is a whirlwind of emotion, passion and action, definitely perfect for fans of polar opposites, mafia, steamy romances。 I liked the story, Trace and Jess meet by chance and sparks fly between them, but they are on opposite sides of the law, however the attraction is too intense to deny and soon they find themselves in a mess of danger and passion, I love the underlying tension between them, the way they can't help but give in to what they both feel。 This story is a whirlwind of emotion, passion and action, definitely perfect for fans of polar opposites, mafia, steamy romances。 。。。more

And I CANNOT WAIT to get the next book as this was just so so good。The romance was an interesting one。 I loved seeing how Jess and Trace overcame issues and never knew what choices they would make。 The romance was sweet at times but it was also seriously sexy。 Smut lovers will be happy but it is also a romance that is so much more than the smut and love。I was completely hooked on this dangerous world and I am so excited for the next book。 Tijan is obviously a brilliant writer。 I was reeled into the story very very quickly and I couldn't put it down! There are some moments that sensitive readers may find hard and if you want to know about these then feel free to message me。 But nothing was done to a grotesque or gorey manner。If you like a romance with a slightly darker side, lots of twists and turns and some great smut then I highly recommend getting this book! She came across hard when she needed to be, but also had a softer side。 Trace was all business。 He came at everything with determination。 I did think their characters sounded a little too similar at times, but not enough that I couldn't tell whose POV I was reading。 I didn't have strong feelings about any of the side characters other than Ashton and Chelsea。 Chelsea made me mad, and Ashton made me madder。 That's all I'll say for now。THE ROMANCEJess and Trace had strong chemistry。 There was a lot of lust and obsession in their relationship。 In some books that would come off as a toxic relationship。 Tijan always manages to make it work, and it did for these two。 I liked that so much together that I wanted more moments where they were。 Hopefully in the next book。WAIT。 Did I just say next book? Yep。 There's a cliffhanger that left me wanting more。 You've been warned!THE DRAMAThis is a mafia romance and it's Tijan, so you know there's going to be drama。 It hit hard while also somehow feeling light? I don't even know how to explain it。 Normally, I would have expected mafia romance to feel super dark with the violence, but this one didn't have that tone。 I liked it。 It made this book standout。 OVERALL THOUGHTSI liked this book a lot。 It kept my attention and had me waiting to find out what was next。 I liked the relationship。 I just wanted more action and more of the relationship。 Nothing really felt like it was happening until the last half。 That was fine because I was getting to know everyone, but it could have been a more explosive story。 I'm excited to find out what comes next。 You can find this review and others like it at A Novel Glimpse。 。。。more

Yeah, I do。 But Trace was instantly obsessed to stalker degrees。 It mean, it was creepy shenanigans to read, and the pages turned at a rapid rate。 But it did make me feel empathy toward what Jess was going through too。 Time after time, their lives intersect。 Jess is struggling with her uncles (parents' best friends from back in the day) and her mother。 Jess's mother is a drunk, but it's the mental instability that takes a toll on Jess。 The mental, emotional, and verbal abuse was hard for this reader to stomach。 While I felt this dynamic was realistic, there were parts of Jess's backstory that were never explained, as if there was this huge twist that was going to drop out of the air at any moment, but it never happened。 So while there was a resolution between Jess and her mother, there was no closure for the reader, since the rage and abuse, along with all the things said and that which was left beneath the surface, was never explored let alone explained。 Perhaps in the next installment, but it felt like right to give it closure now。 The momentum was built, only for it to die out with little to no explanation。 Furthermore, the responsibility was accepted by other parties, and I cannot see where Jess's mom would think Jess should shoulder it。 I still have no idea why Jess's mother treated Jess as she did, after an entire novel。 The dynamic Trace had with his uncle and their family, his father and sister, and his best friend and his family, along with the strife with the other families was intriguing to unravel。 This part of the story took the forefront, thoroughly developed and intriguing, leading to a fast-paced novel。 I was able to spot the main bad guy from the beginning。 It would have been more exciting had I not, and less frustrating as well。 I just kept thinking how Trace and Ashton were all-knowing yet beyond dim when it came to the bad guy- it was all laid out for them。 The other bad guy was a slight twist that I had a gut feeling about, so I enjoyed how that unfolded。 Ashton。 Ashton。 Ashton。 Yes, I cannot wait to read your POV, but at the same time, I hope there is closure and resolution over an incident, because what was put on the pages wasn't good enough。 The main reason I couldn't give a five-star review is on the character development front。 There were times they acted out of character, or far more immature than their age group/education/upbringing/profession, or they acted/reacted to things in a manner that should destroy relationships。 A punch isn't enough, let's just put it that way, making Jess go from strong to doormat, be it with her family, Trace, or those in Trace's orbit。 Same with Trace, decisive and action-forward in one regard, yet lets things go in the next, things that bite them later。 There were snippets introduced, shown as if important, that were eventually just lost in the shuffle to be forgotten about and never brought up again。 These snippets may or may not come up in other installments, but they were written as if they were to be mysteries or twists。 Since they were left dangling and barely mentioned, I'm not sure why they were added at all but to distract the reader with a false narrative, same goes with Mom's rage toward Jess。 While I loved every minute of this chaotic story, reading it from cover to cover。 Had I read it slower, the issues would have revealed themselves and taken away the entertainment value。 I'm a sucker for an angsty trainwreck of a novel, with equally trainwrecked characters- A DIRTY BUSINESS delivered that in spades。It doesn't matter how amazingly or poorly plotted, written, and edited a novel is, the true test is if I would do just about anything to get the next installment。 In this case, gimme more。 Now。 。。。more

This book was a typical Mafia trope but was a book I completely devoured。 This book is extremely well-written and mature for a romance。 This book is more believable than most because Jess the main character is very professional。 She has a very interesting job as a parole officer which is something you don't read about all the time。 This added a lot more to the story because of the tension between Jess and Trace。 This is a slow burn but had just the right amount of sexy。 It is the forbidden roman This book was a typical Mafia trope but was a book I completely devoured。 This book is extremely well-written and mature for a romance。 This book is more believable than most because Jess the main character is very professional。 She has a very interesting job as a parole officer which is something you don't read about all the time。 This added a lot more to the story because of the tension between Jess and Trace。 This is a slow burn but had just the right amount of sexy。 It is the forbidden romance you have all been waiting for。 I can not wait for the next book by this author。 This was a 5 out of 5 stars for me and will be recommended to all my followers。 。。。more

I don't even know where to begin。 Requested this book on a whim because I was looking for something different。 Well Tijan, you do not disappoint。 Romance and Mafia, yes please!! I literally could not put this book down。 The unpredictable path this story leads you on is a whirlwind and I then to leave me wanting more。 Pure genius。 I can not wait to see what is to come in this series because I am hooked。 The characters through this story are fit so perfectly with such strong personalities。 This wa I don't even know where to begin。 Requested this book on a whim because I was looking for something different。 Well Tijan, you do not disappoint。 Romance and Mafia, yes please!! Tijan has always been a one click author for me。。 Since the ‘Fallen Crest’ series。 I couldn’t get enough of Sam, Mason, Logan and the Fallen Crest crew, but right now I think Trace and Jess are about taking their place in my heart (just kidding)。 A Mafia man romancing law enforcement girl is recipe for disaster, like oil and water。 In the affairs of the heart though, reasoning is thrown out the door。 The two tried to make it work, that’s the essence of the story, I couldn’t put it down, No fluff Tijan has always been a one click author for me。。 Since the ‘Fallen Crest’ series。 I couldn’t get enough of Sam, Mason, Logan and the Fallen Crest crew, but right now I think Trace and Jess are about taking their place in my heart (just kidding)。 A Mafia man romancing law enforcement girl is recipe for disaster, like oil and water。 In the affairs of the heart though, reasoning is thrown out the door。 The two tried to make it work, that’s the essence of the story, I couldn’t put it down, No fluff here, it's Tijan。 The traitors are a surprise (but of course)。 I hope there’s a second book for Jess and Trace。 The ending shows there should be。 So am patiently waiting。 I don’t want to give anything away。 。。。more

Well, I requested this book from NetGalley because I wanted to read something different and original, and this was definitely different from my typical romance reads。 To tell the truth, I didn't love the Mafia Romance genre, but I'm glad I took a chance on this book anyway。 I didn't buy into the Mafia storyline, Trace and friends just didn't seem "mafia" enough to me。 I also didn't buy into the love at first sight storyline, nor did I believe Jess as a PO。 That career just seemed unnecessary。 I Well, I requested this book from NetGalley because I wanted to read something different and original, and this was definitely different from my typical romance reads。 To tell the truth, I didn't love the Mafia Romance genre, but I'm glad I took a chance on this book anyway。 I didn't buy into the Mafia storyline, Trace and friends just didn't seem "mafia" enough to me。 I also didn't buy into the love at first sight storyline, nor did I believe Jess as a PO。 That career just seemed unnecessary。 I think it was more believable when she was at her bartender job。 Overall, this was slow burn and I felt the book was too long。 I was just slogging my way through。 I was hoping for a story where the sweet bartender girl gets swept away into the lifestyle of the filthy rich bad boy。 But, this wasn't that type of story。 He did a lot of asking "please" and she did a lot of saying "go away"。 It just got boring。However, I still rated this book 3 stars, because I think that there might be some readers who will really enjoy it。 If this is a typical genre you enjoy, this book will probably be a lot of fun。 Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

I picked this book up at 7PM on Thursday night and thought, “I’ll read a few chapters before bed”。 Well, I didn’t stop until I finished the book at midnight - do with that what you will。A Dirty Business offers a killer combination of romance, suspense, action, and drama that makes it extremely difficult to put the book down, hence the dark under eyes I was rocking Friday morning。 Jess and Trace are both such strong and confident characters, but somehow they still manage to compliment each other I picked this book up at 7PM on Thursday night and thought, “I’ll read a few chapters before bed”。 Well, I didn’t stop until I finished the book at midnight - do with that what you will。A Dirty Business offers a killer combination of romance, suspense, action, and drama that makes it extremely difficult to put the book down, hence the dark under eyes I was rocking Friday morning。 Jess and Trace are both such strong and confident characters, but somehow they still manage to compliment each other so well。 From the moment they met, sparks flew off the page and I was more than happy to watch them circle each other as they fought the connection they felt with one another。The drama with the mafia and ghosts from the past led to plenty of OMG moments that had my heart in my throat。 I’m looking forward to having some of my questions answered in book 2。 I have no doubt it will be another enjoyable ride。 。。。more
