Summary

In the eyes of London Society, Gillian Phelps is suitable enough。 Though the ton whispers about her change of residence, any speculation remains just that: ballroom gossip。 No one—not even the other Huntresses, the group of ladies she calls her dearest friends—knows that she is harboring a devastating family secret。 Gillian has become adept at hiding the reality of her circumstances, but the close quarters of a house party will test her ability to conceal the crushing truth。 And with so many people to deceive, the late arrival of another guest is a most unwelcome surprise。

Despite his standing as a gentleman of the ton, in truth, Scott Sarvol possesses little more than two debt-riddled estates。 When an opportunity arises to survey one of his properties, he travels north, only to find himself an unwitting guest at Artemis Jonquil’s house party。 He is warmly welcomed by all—except the aloof Miss Gillian Phelps。 But when Scott proves himself unexpectedly helpful in a crisis, his acquaintance with Gillian shifts from wariness to something warmer。

As both her charade and her feelings for Scott deepen, Gillian realizes that the truth could spell not only a devastating fall from Society but also a shattered heart。

This is a fantastic start to this series! I loved getting to know the huntresses and Charlie's friends better! I also thought this is a very relevant book to the world。 Financial problems are a big part of life and watching how Scott handles that and who he ends up relying on is super interesting! Gillian is delightful and her secret is super interesting。 It made me think more than some books I've read! This is a fantastic start to this series! I am such a big fan of Sarah Eden。 Her characters are the kind that stay with you。 They become real, they become your friends, and this sweet love story definitely showcases that。I was so excited for this new series, starring the huntresses because Artemis and Charlie have always been two of my favorites, and I knew that they would be a part of this story。 I’m now getting to know their friends and seeing them connect and grow。 I love it when stories can bring you back to characters that you love I am such a big fan of Sarah Eden。 Her characters are the kind that stay with you。 They become real, they become your friends, and this sweet love story definitely showcases that。I was so excited for this new series, starring the huntresses because Artemis and Charlie have always been two of my favorites, and I knew that they would be a part of this story。 I’m now getting to know their friends and seeing them connect and grow。 I love it when stories can bring you back to characters that you love and you get to walk into their home and be a part of their life again。The story centers around Gillian and Scott。 Two people who have gone through so much in their short lives, and gosh the odds are stacked against them in every single way。 The things I loved about the story was watching them figure out and fight for their chance to be together。 I truly did not know how it was going to work out, and I loved watching the story evolve and see the resolutions to their problems。 Everything wasn’t just tied up in a little bow, they had to work for it。We have known Scott from the past and seeing him over come the verbal abuse from his uncle and learn how to dig himself out of the hole that was left him was inspiring。 Watching the way Gillian balanced him and gave him inspiration and healing was just the sweetest。 They truly saved each other and that’s a story I can get behind。This book is a slow burn, friendship to more, overcoming the odds and fighting for the chance to not only be together, but to overcome the ruin that has built up around both of them kind of story。 。。。more

I was ready to fall into another SME world and I loved it! The characters you love are present or mentioned, the sweet romance and wisdom! I was blown away by the wise lines (amongst banter and fun teasing)。 Scott Sarvol, against really the revenge of his deranged uncle, is on the brink of debtor’s prison。 For 2 years (I felt like this needed a better explanation why he let his estate stay run down for 2 yrs before doing anything and why wouldn’t he talk to Mater?!) He was clueless most of the time which was frustrating because I did like him。 Gillian is slow to warm up to others, life taught her that she can’t always trust others with her best interests at heart。 She arrives at Brier Hill for a house party when an uninvited guest shows up。 Then she receives a letter calling her back and Scott accompanies her。 I wanted more fake dating/interest but I loved how the book title was woven into the dialogue。 And a HEA seemed impossible。“Mater wishes to drag you off to your inevitable doom,” Layton said。 “And we always honor Mater’s wishes,” Harold said。 (loc 3256)I loved getting to know Toss more and definitely need more of him。 You really don’t get to know much of the Huntresses, they were hardly mentioned but I think the next book is about Daria。 “I do hope we have plans for causing mischief while we’re all together,” Eve said (loc 324)I was surprised at the house party locations kept moving and I don’t know if it was the best thing (showing up to a sickly old woman’s house or a dilapidated house🤔) but friends stick together and help others。 And Jonquils rescue。 This book releases today and I received an e-arc copy from the publisher。 These are my own thoughts and opinions。 。。。more

What a great start to The Huntresses series! Loved Gillian and Scott’s story。 I would give it 4。5 stars only because pacing in the middle wasn’t great。 Otherwise loved the story!

Gillian and Scott were two wonderful main characters and it was a delight to read about their journey。 With both having difficult pasts, and struggling with doubts and trials, their love and support for each other was so enjoyable to experience throughout the story。 And the snippets of interaction we get with characters from previous books was so much fun。 One of my favorite things about Sarah’s books is her ability to create characters that seem so genuine。 For me, a part of what makes them so genuine is their struggles。 They don’t have perfect lives with what they thought were easy and ideal happy endings, and that’s what is so beautiful about them。 Sarah’s books are proof that you can still have a wonderful and joyful life even if you’re dealt with a hard blow。 You can still make the best out of whatever life gives you。 So yes, I do love this book individually and for how it builds on the incredible “Eden-verse” that this amazing author has built。 It’s a great regency romance! 。。。more

He is absolutely wonderful。 Kind, caring, hard working, an amazing corespondent。 I could go on and on about the many fine qualities of Scott Sarvol 😂。 But he’s also had many hard things thrown on his plate to contend with and the constant fear that he is a burden and failure。 Gillian Phelps has endured many trying circumstances。 The death of her mother, reduction of her family’s social standing, and very cruel treatment by those in Society。 Because of this she has become closed off, unless she can really trust someone。 But underneath lies a beautiful personally。 A light hearted, quick witted, kind and caring person。 Scott and Gillian were such a great match from the beginning。 And it was easy to see how they fell for each other so quickly。 They could sympathize with each other’s hardships and could be the support that they both needed。 I absolutely loved them together and enjoyed each sweet and tender moment between them。 And I can’t leave out the fact that it was SO exciting to have all of our favorite characters showing up or being discussed throughout the book! So many fun cameos and glimpses of things to come in other connecting series! If this isn’t already on your read list, it needs to be added! SARAH M。 EDEN DOES IT AGAIN!!! This was one of my most anticipated releases of 2022, and I was not sure what to expect from this book。 It was an original idea that I had never seen in a regency book before。 I loved seeing friends from past books, playing a key role but they did not take over。 It can be read as a stand-alone, Sarah does an excellent job of making sure of that but you will get the most out of it if you have read her other books。

The Best Intentions is the first book in Sarah M Eden’s Huntress book。 tGillian was so sweet。 She had been through a lot in her life and she was looking for a family to call her own。 I enjoyed Gillina’s character and how fiercely protective she was of her friends。 However she was also lonely and struggling to find her place。 It was lovely to read about Gillian interacting with the other Huntresses and Scott。 Gillian had to learn that she didn’t have to be perfect and maybe she had a family in her friends。 tScott was also wonderful。 He had his own troubles to work through and yet it did not stop him from being kind and from considering others。 Scott was trying his best to save his home but things were not working out。 He never expected to fall in love or find help in an unlikely place。 Scott had to learn to trust his family and see that he didn’t have to do everything on his own。 tScott and Gillian were so cute to read about! I adored their interactions and their connection。 They truly saw each other and they encouraged each other to keep on hoping。 I liked how their romance grew and how they came to care about each other as people first and then they fell in love。 Scott and Gillian had to figure out how to make a relationship work even when life seemed to be working against them。 The characters were compelling and I was invested in the story the whole time。 I loved the side characters and seeing characters from other books。 It was so cool to see some old characters again。 I also love the emphasis on family and found family。 I am also so excited for the next book! I can not wait to read whatever comes next。tI adored The Best Intentions and I would totally recommend it to other book lovers! I would recommend it to those who have enjoyed Eden’s other books and those who enjoy historical romances。 I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author。 All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review。 。。。more

I got an ARC of this book, and believe me, you are gonna love it! Gillian is hiding a secret of her past, even from her best friends, a group known in society as the huntresses。 She is wary at a house party when an unexpected guest shows up! But he has secrets of his own to conquer! Such a great story!

The Best Intentions is marketed as the first in a new series, but many of the characters have appeared in previous books。 I felt like I had been dropped in the middle of a story, like I was missing key information。 At the beginning especially, there were so many characters, and they all seemed so perfect and charming。 The opening chapters were a little too heavy on set up for the series for my liking, and is not one person in this circle unlikable?Even once we moved beyond meeting all the huntre The Best Intentions is marketed as the first in a new series, but many of the characters have appeared in previous books。 I felt like I had been dropped in the middle of a story, like I was missing key information。 At the beginning especially, there were so many characters, and they all seemed so perfect and charming。 The opening chapters were a little too heavy on set up for the series for my liking, and is not one person in this circle unlikable?Even once we moved beyond meeting all the huntresses, the story failed to engage me。 I found it boring, and I did not care about the main characters。 There wasn’t really any tension as to how things would turn out, no barriers to the happy ever after。 (If only we all had rich friends to confide in, all problems would be smoothed away and our lives would be perfect。)The romance moved way too quickly。 It hardly seemed like Gillian and Scott had met before they were in love。 Everything moved too quickly – the use of first names, the casual touching。 Everyone acts like “dear friends” when they’ve just met。From chapter 22 of the advance reader copy: “He’d known her only a matter of weeks, and in those few weeks he’d laughed more and smiled more than he had in years。 In those few weeks, she had become home to him, and he hadn’t fully realized it until that moment。” I found their relationship saccharine。 Scott’s uncle ran the family estate into disrepair, but before he died he constantly criticized Scott and called him a born failure。 Scott feels these criticisms deeply, but I didn’t get why。 His uncle is clearly the loser; it was hard for me to imagine that his uncle’s opinion would matter that much。 The heroine’s father had financial troubles and has now become…a butler using an alias? In the home of the woman who took Gillian in? That seemed so far-fetched to me。 So did Scott deciding to solve his financial problems by turning one of his holdings into essentially a Regency era Airbnb。 I’ve read better from Sarah Eden; for me, The Best Intentions was a dud。 I read an advance reader copy of The Best Intentions from Netgalley。 。。。more

What an absolutely brilliant beginning to a new series!Whether you are a devoted Sarah Eden fan or this is the first book of hers you have read, this story will sweep you off your feet and remind you why you read love stories。A house party hosted by Charlie and Artemis Jonquil is the perfect setting for the Huntresses and Charlie's friends to meet。 Gillian and Scott both have secrets they insist on keeping and theirs is an emotionally poignant journey as they learn to trust and rely on each othe What an absolutely brilliant beginning to a new series!Whether you are a devoted Sarah Eden fan or this is the first book of hers you have read, this story will sweep you off your feet and remind you why you read love stories。A house party hosted by Charlie and Artemis Jonquil is the perfect setting for the Huntresses and Charlie's friends to meet。 Gillian and Scott both have secrets they insist on keeping and theirs is an emotionally poignant journey as they learn to trust and rely on each other and on their friends。 I adored both characters and their love story has challenges but it is sweet, gentle, and full of hope。 Their banter, the letters, and oh, my, the waltzing! Sigh。 I think my heart melted into a happy little puddle the last third of the book。LOVED seeing so many favorite characters from the Jonquil series but also that the didn't overshadow Scott and Gillian's story。 Seriously, if you have read the books there are so many little Jonquil easter eggs in this one but you could absolutely read this as a standalone and not be lost at all。Beautiful and sweet regency romance that should be required reading for any fan of the genre。 Highly, highly recommend and I absolutely cannot wait for the next book! I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required。 。。。more

Beautifully written story with all the emotions one could handle。 Scott and Gillian are both returning characters, Scott from the Jonquil series and Gillian from The Best-Laid Plans and Charming Artemis。 I adore both characters and the way they overcome the challenges they each face。 Once they trust each other enough to share burdens their relationship grows and they find resolutions to problems they are facing。 I love that Mater, Julia Jonquil, and King, Digby Layton, both make appearances that Beautifully written story with all the emotions one could handle。 Scott and Gillian are both returning characters, Scott from the Jonquil series and Gillian from The Best-Laid Plans and Charming Artemis。 I adore both characters and the way they overcome the challenges they each face。 Once they trust each other enough to share burdens their relationship grows and they find resolutions to problems they are facing。 I love that Mater, Julia Jonquil, and King, Digby Layton, both make appearances that impact the outcome of the story。 Even having Harry, Phillip, and Layton Jonquil arrive to help Scott in his time of need are perfect。 Scott and Gillian both come to find they have the families they have both sought for years in the Jonquils and the Gents, even Adam, the most influential Duke, has his moments。 The cameos in this story are many but they do not overshadow the main characters or plots。 I feel that we will see and fall even more in love with Charlie and Artemis as well as we step into the world of 'The Huntresses'。 Sarah is always up to the challenge and exceeds my personal expectations when it comes to books。 I applaud the depths she goes to for creating well rounded stories that have few if any mistakes。 。。。more
