Summary

Meet Kitty Collins。
FRIEND。 LOVER。 KILLER。

Have you ever walked home at night, keys in hand, ready to throw a punch in self-defence? That’s how it all started。 The killing spree, I mean。

I sort of tripped into this role… Literally。 The first one was following me。 That guy from the nightclub who wouldn’t leave me alone。 I pushed him, he stumbled, and fell onto his own broken wine bottle。 Oops。 It was such a waste of a good house white。

But now I can’t seem to stop and nor do I want to… I’ve got a taste for revenge and quite frankly, I’m killing it

Katy Brent’s debut How To Kill Men and Get Away With It is exactly what the title says! It is dark, twisted and hilarious。 If I have to sum it up in the simplest possible manner, I would say, this is Dexter at work, minus any minutest reference to logical processing。Kitty Collins, a social influencer and fashionista, she is living the “good life。” She lives in Chelsea, in a penthouse apartment。 She and her friends Hen, Tor, and Maisie are all from influential families。 Their lives centre around Katy Brent’s debut How To Kill Men and Get Away With It is exactly what the title says! Kitty’s dad has been missing since her childhood, and her mother lives in France。 After a failed relationship, Kitty strongly distrusts men and is wary of getting into a relationship。On a regular evening, Kitty is on her way home from the nightclub when a stalker tries to assault her。 While trying to defend herself, she accidentally kills him, and gets addicted to the thrill of it! But her addiction is not mindless。 It fills her life with purpose。 She is the female version of Dexter, a brutal vigilante fighting injustice。 Armed with her stun gun, she embarks on her own method of imparting social justice。It is impossible to say anything more without giving away the story。 So, I won’t say anything more!Kitty Collins is not a very likable character。 A typical snob, she is self-centered, always judges people on the basis of their followers, and carries a fake smile to impress people。 And to top it all, she is a murderer。 But once I started spending time in her head, I actually ended up liking her and enjoyed her thrilling escapades。Brent has done a marvellous job of bringing various characters together。 Their backstories are tied together neatly, and Kitty finds a happy ending to her story。 The story behind Kitty's dad's disappearance is mind-blowing!The author has dealt with many serious topics, and the way she handles them is praise-worthy。 Even though the overall tone is humorous, she doesn't underplay the issues。 I enjoyed How To Kill Men and Get Away With It。 It is wickedly humorous and is best enjoyed when you leave logic, critical thinking, and due processes aside。I received a free copy of this book from HQ Digital through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review。 。。。more

Influencer Kitty Collins is beautiful and rich, and she can get away with murder, literally。 Things get pretty wild, and graphic, quickly and it only increases as the story goes on, so please check trigger warnings。Kitty ‘accidentally’ gets a taste for revenge, and then begins pulling off some brutal vigilante justice against awful, evil men。 Obviously this whole plot is over the top, with the comparison of a female Dexter being understandable as she puts her own twists on his methods (Ie I thin Influencer Kitty Collins is beautiful and rich, and she can get away with murder, literally。 Things get pretty wild, and graphic, quickly and it only increases as the story goes on, so please check trigger warnings。Kitty ‘accidentally’ gets a taste for revenge, and then begins pulling off some brutal vigilante justice against awful, evil men。 Obviously this whole plot is over the top, with the comparison of a female Dexter being understandable as she puts her own twists on his methods (Ie I think she covers her kill surface in Vogue magazine pages instead of plastic like he does?)。The difference for me is that I didn’t find Kitty that likeable。 I didn’t find any of the characters likeable, they were all superficial or surface level。 Her relationship with Charlie didn’t have any depth and therefore I didn’t feel invested at all, or really buy into her changing for him。 I also struggled with her recklessness and lack of concern at being caught。 It felt like we breezed past a lot of worry in that regard and it sometimes pulled me out of the story because HOW? There’s no way。 One of the themes of the book seemingly was violence against women, but some of the plot points (the ending for example) seem to undermine it。 I wasn’t sure if this was satire, dark humour, or what to make of the book as a whole。 Overall, it did hold my attention until the end and had some twists I didn’t expect。 It had funny and relatable moments, I just felt like the point of her revenge was trivialized by the end。 Thank you to HQ Digital for the digital copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Guys。。。I really don't know how I feel about this book。 Literally no thoughts。 In the beginning, I wasn't loving it。 It was hard for me to like Kitty throughout the entire story, even though there were moments when I could empathize with her。 I just found her quite shallow, she was very much giving off privileged, white woman vibes。 I did kind of like the dark comedic aspects, and I found myself getting into it a bit more as the story progressed, but then it got a little bit dark/heavy minus the Guys。。。I really don't know how I feel about this book。 Literally no thoughts。 In the beginning, I wasn't loving it。 It was hard for me to like Kitty throughout the entire story, even though there were moments when I could empathize with her。 I just found her quite shallow, she was very much giving off privileged, white woman vibes。 I did kind of like the dark comedic aspects, and I found myself getting into it a bit more as the story progressed, but then it got a little bit dark/heavy minus the comedy so I was like oh this is serious now! I think the book just lacked a sense of direction, in the sense that it was a dark comedy, but also sort of thriller-y, while also being feminist fiction because it largely centred around violence against women。 And obviously, there is nothing wrong with a book drawing from more than one genre (most books do fall under more than one genre), but I guess for me, it was the execution of combining all those aspects that was done quite poorly。 So as 3 stars is my default meh rating, I just settled on that。 。。。more

Very , very dark book told by Kitty。 To outside appearances a Chelsea living socialite who is a social media influencer, there is more to her than meets the eye。 Her story is told gradually 。The characters are not particularly likeable, but mobidly fascinating。 Would/could this happen ,I am not so sure。, especially with modern detection techniques 。 The plot seems far fetched, but also keeps a hold on you so that you need to know how things turn out。Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange f Very , very dark book told by Kitty。 To outside appearances a Chelsea living socialite who is a social media influencer, there is more to her than meets the eye。 Her story is told gradually 。The characters are not particularly likeable, but mobidly fascinating。 Would/could this happen ,I am not so sure。, especially with modern detection techniques 。 The plot seems far fetched, but also keeps a hold on you so that you need to know how things turn out。Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review 。。。more

Hmm。 Given the digital trail that Kitty left and the areas she went about killing would certainly have had copious amounts of CCTV, there's no way that Kitty could have got away with the crimes if it wasn't for her position as a yas-queen heroine in a novel。 The whole relationship with Charlie was so poorly done too。 We've got an independent protagonist who has built her own career (as an influencer, which she hates and is portrayed pretty problematically tbf) who falls into the narrative trap of being saved from herself by a man。 I could perhaps have let that slide if it didn't emerge that Charlie has been complicit in suppressing allegations of harrassment and abuse because he'd lose out on donations for his charity。。。which Kitty seems to be fine with?! The whole finale veered into "shock and awe" melodrama just to give the book some sort of twist-y ending and it just didn't really work。 The character arcs felt really bobbly and the ending definitely felt like a bit of panic on the author's part to try and build to a pay off。 There was plenty of potential here and the writing was really sparky, there were just a lot of issues that were hard to overcome as a reader。 。。。more

How to Kill Men and Get Away With It is a hard book to review without giving away the plot。 Meet Kitty Collins, a social media influencer and pretty successful at it。 Everything is going for her, except that she is also a sociopathic serial killer getting rid of evil men。 The premise of this story is fantastic and the comparison to Dexter is inevitable。 The story reads like a female Dexter with lots of dark humor and a sprinkling of romance too。 The story is dark and twisted, there is a lot of d How to Kill Men and Get Away With It is a hard book to review without giving away the plot。 Meet Kitty Collins, a social media influencer and pretty successful at it。 Everything is going for her, except that she is also a sociopathic serial killer getting rid of evil men。 The premise of this story is fantastic and the comparison to Dexter is inevitable。 The story reads like a female Dexter with lots of dark humor and a sprinkling of romance too。 The story is dark and twisted, there is a lot of death and murder but overall it is surprisingly breezy and fun。 The story never gets too dark and the twists keep on coming。 The writing style and tone in general keep the readers interested till the end。 As a warning, the book is fairly graphic at times and tackles a lot of serious issues like misogyny, abuse, violence against women, etc。, but these issues are used to rationalize Kitty’s actions and even the readers will find it hard to disagree with her。 Kitty was quite likable, despite her actions and the fact that she messes up quite a lot。 Her backstory and the rationale for her actions are established quite well。 The cast of characters was really well written and each ‘act’ is also nicely written。 Overall, How to Kill Men and Get Away With It is refreshingly different from standard murder mysteries and thrillers。 It’s a nice mix of thriller, dark comedy, and romance。 It has its up and downs with the climax too stretched and unrealistic。 But if you love thrillers with a bit of dark humor then you would definitely love reading this book。 It’s absolutely entertaining and an exciting read。 Many thanks to HQ Digital and NetGalley for the ARC。   。。。more

Thank you, Netgalley, for the ARC!I support women’s rights and sometimes, mostly their wrongs。 It was the title and the cover that made me request this ARC and, boy, am I glad that I got it。 I loved the quick pace and badass girlboss energy presented in the book。 Admittedly, the book did slow down a little, but I enjoyed it nevertheless。 I enjoyed seeing Kitty’s character at work, going through her mind as she would yeet each disgusting man and the thrill she would get out of it。 Her dry and sha Thank you, Netgalley, for the ARC!I support women’s rights and sometimes, mostly their wrongs。 It was the title and the cover that made me request this ARC and, boy, am I glad that I got it。 I loved the quick pace and badass girlboss energy presented in the book。 Admittedly, the book did slow down a little, but I enjoyed it nevertheless。 I enjoyed seeing Kitty’s character at work, going through her mind as she would yeet each disgusting man and the thrill she would get out of it。 Her dry and sharp humour made the book so much more entertaining。 I haven’t seen this movie, but I think it would be similar to Promising Young Woman。 。。。more

When you're beautiful and rich you can get away with murder, well you can if you're Kitty Collins, Abbatoir Princess and Instagram Influencer, vegan, with a penchant for killing bad men。It gets quite dark in places and if you're squeamish there are a few parts you might need to skip over。 The humour is on point though! I had fun and liked this sort of vigilante serial killer mixed with a loving friend type of character。 I liked and disleked her at the same as some scene are a bit too gorey。The dark humour and the twisty plot kept me reading。It's not easy to review it and I'm on the fence Recommended。Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine I had fun and liked this sort of vigilante serial killer mixed with a loving friend type of character。 I liked and disleked her at the same as some scene are a bit too gorey。The dark humour and the twisty plot kept me reading。It's not easy to review it and I'm on the fence Recommended。Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine 。。。more

Held your keys in your hand, prepared to retaliate if someone attacks you? This is exactly how Kitty Collins started on her killing spree。 The guy from the nightclub that wouldn’t leave her alone and had followed her, tripped and fell onto his own wine bottle。 It was a waste of a good white wine, but it was what gave Kitty her thirst for revenge。 Seeking out guys who preyed on and attacked women。 Quite frankly, she’s doing quite well in her new role。General Thoughts 🤔This book was exactly what I was looking for and what I needed at this very time。 When I picked this up, I was expecting something funny, light hearted but not too fluffy that I would completely lose interest。 How to Kill Men and Get Away With It delivered on all of that and I had such a good time reading it。There were some laugh out loud moments for me but there were also some moments that really made me feel quite sad。 This is a pretty common subject matter since #MeToo and it is of course a very important topic, but it was refreshing to read about it with a comedic angle。Characters 👫👭👬The main character in the story was Kitty Collins and although there was potential to really dislike this woman, I ended up falling a little bit in love with her。 To begin with, I genuinely thought she was going to be a stuck up, head up her own backside influencer but that changed quite quickly for me。 I realised that she was not only a very troubled woman and had suffered through trauma, but she kind of had her heart in the right place when she was running around London killing men。I did also fall a little bit in love with Charlie。 In my head, he was one devastatingly handsome guy and I would very much like to see a picture of how Katy Brent imagined him to see if it aligns with my vision。 On top of that, he was a real life hero。 I’d go as far to say that Kitty didn’t deserve his love, but Charlie was such a sweetheart, he was going to care for and look after her regardless。Writing Style ✍️I really liked the way that this author was able to blend the serious and gruesome with hilarity。 I am all for some dark humour and I think that she did it very well in this story。 Don’t get me wrong, the crimes weren’t perfect and in reality, I’m pretty certain Kitty would have been caught by the police quite early on, but it didn’t matter to me one bit。 The whole thing was entertaining and that’s what I was hooked on。Conclusion & Scoring 🎖This dark, twisted and hilarious story was everything I needed right now。 I powered through this relatively short book because once I had started, it was difficult to stop。 The murders are ridiculous, but fantastic。 The characters were superficial, but riddled with some deep rooted issues。 The friendships, romances, traumas and gory goings on, made for a very entertaining read and I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who is in the market for a bit of light hearted murder。 。。。more

Thank you to Netgalley and HQ for this ARC in exchange for an honest review。 The title of this book drew me in straight away and I couldn't wait to see where it took me。 And for the most part, I did enjoy it。 The comedy was great throughout, and I loved the descriptive writing of what was happening during these murders。 To begin with, I felt the book held some realism but as it slowly progressed, and things went more and more wrong, I have to say that the way the story developed, it took me out Thank you to Netgalley and HQ for this ARC in exchange for an honest review。 The title of this book drew me in straight away and I couldn't wait to see where it took me。 And for the most part, I did enjoy it。 The comedy was great throughout, and I loved the descriptive writing of what was happening during these murders。 To begin with, I felt the book held some realism but as it slowly progressed, and things went more and more wrong, I have to say that the way the story developed, it took me out of the fictional headspace I was in and made me feel that it was too unbelievable - and that was all I could focus on。 However, if you want something to pass the time, and need a quick read, this one would be a great option。 。。。more

Just based on the title I hoped this book would hit the mark and it definitely does! Kitty Collins is tired of the way men behave towards women and so she decides to do something about it。 I loved Kitty's character even though she was a bit hypocritical about her social circle and her standing but she still provides some humour and relatability throughout。 It definitely has some Dexter vibes as she only kills bad men and has her own set of rules to follow but it makes for a brilliant read which Just based on the title I hoped this book would hit the mark and it definitely does! WOW! This book started off with a bang and didn't let up the whole way。 I loved everything about it。 The characters, the humour and the accidental and not so accident killings。 It is honestly one of the best books I've read all year, which is high praise, as I've read 260 so far。 Kitty is one of my favourite main characters in any thriller I've ever read。 She is right up there with Lana from Mindf*ck by S。T。 Abby and Jane from Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone。I really hope that we're going to se WOW! 3。5 rounded up due to the crazy factor - rich influencer Kitty is a very unreliable narrator, but some of it I did figure out early。 Still, enjoyed this a little bit more than I probably should have 😎🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC。 Well, this was interesting。I’m going to start this off by saying that I try to be as honest as possible in my reviews。 I did not like this book。 The writing was too modernised for me, the entire social media language and cringe vegan agenda the author had going on were really off putting。 I genuinely hated every single character in this book with the main character in the lead。 But that later。 What genuinely made me hate the plot, the main character and the murd Thank you NetGalley for this ARC。 Well, this was interesting。I’m going to start this off by saying that I try to be as honest as possible in my reviews。 I did not like this book。 The writing was too modernised for me, the entire social media language and cringe vegan agenda the author had going on were really off putting。 I genuinely hated every single character in this book with the main character in the lead。 But that later。 What genuinely made me hate the plot, the main character and the murders were the inconsistency and the lack of research。 As to the lack of research: Those murders were bad。 Like, genuinely。 Not in a ‘Oh, how horrible of her’ way, but rather in a ‘This is what a thirteen year old thinks a murder is like’ way。 The main character is narcissistic beyond words。 She thinks herself better than her friends while she is exactly like them。 Attention, we have a case of not-like-other-girls-syndrome。 Especially since the love interest only likes her because she “isn’t like her shallow and dumb friends”。 Kitty is irritating and fails to show any character growth。 I couldn’t stand her。Now onto why: The inconsistencies。 She is a hypocrite and keeps on contradicting herself and her own opinions with her actions。 She loves money, social media and expensive stuff- but oh how tiring Instagram is, and what is she supposed to do with all this unnecessary money, what a horrible life to be an influencer! So annoying! If her constant bitching was supposed to make her likeable, it truly did the opposite。 The people you surround yourself with reflect you。 That’s a fact。 Her vapid, superficial and idiotic friends are an exact reflection of Kitty’s personality。 Then of course, we are met with the worst case of unreliable narrators: the liar to the reader for tension。 In this case, it was unnecessary and not the point of having an unreliable narrator。 The entire point of the book isn’t clear to me。 What is the message? It seems as if every important thing is being ridiculed。 The inclusion of people bashing Hen’s post for being like the BLM-movement? Was that really necessary? Also, the end was a mess that made no sense。 I actually got physically sick sometimes。 Not because of the murders, but something about this book just ruined every day that I read。 This is supposed to be funny and like American Psycho, and clever。 It was neither。 What I can admit though is that the pacing of the plot was good enough to keep me reading。 It had the right pacing for a mystery and while the stalker thing didn’t really make sense (why wasn’t he the first person she was going to murder?), it kept the tension even when it built off at times。 The book does show with a slightly ironic undertone how women are treated and it did have aspects that make it hard to read because of how real and brutally true they are。 I was definitely let down by the synopsis and my expectations。 It had all the right ingredients but was executed very shallowly。 I expected something else but maybe I have to lower my standards for a mystery book next time, although it did feel more like a romance with mystery aspects because there was tons of smut and sex talk that I did not expect in a book like this。 。。。more
