Summary

I wasn’t supposed to survive。

The station has been hit。 Everyone around me is dead。

I have 11 hours of life support left and no way of contacting Earth。

I’m alone。 I’m stranded。 I’m desperate。

But I’m alive。

The more of the station I explore, the surer I get that this was no accident。 Someone did this, and I don't think they're finished yet。

Making it home feels like an impossible task, but I'm not just fighting for my own life。

I have to protect my family — whatever it takes。

And as long as I’m breathing, this isn't over。

Because whoever did this almost pulled it off… but they made one big mistake:

They left the wrong man standing。。。

I have read some of the other works by Mr。 Falconer and very much enjoyed all that I have read。 However, this by far was one of the best that I feel he has put out to date。 I have already pre-ordered the next in this series。 My regret is that I have to wait nearly a month for its release。

Wow - this book is a hot mess。 I loved the Not Alone series。 This one doesn't even begin to compare。 The plot is predictable and wanders thru needless and predictable hurdles that the protagonist must overcome。 The author repeats plot references that the reader doesn't need。 I don't need to be reminded about what happened 10 pages ago! I kept reading because I thought it's got to get better。 But it didn't。 I won't be reading any other books in this series。 I listened on Audible。 They chose the w Wow - this book is a hot mess。 I loved the Not Alone series。 This one doesn't even begin to compare。 The plot is predictable and wanders thru needless and predictable hurdles that the protagonist must overcome。 The author repeats plot references that the reader doesn't need。 I don't need to be reminded about what happened 10 pages ago! And he was constantly so optimistic。 Why? I would expect him to have at least one moment of weakness and freak out or something。So, no。 This novel was not for me。 I listened to the whole audio, and it was somewhat interesting。 But I kept waiting for some twist that would set things right。 A lot of details felt unnatural, and as a result, the whole novel just didn’t click for me。 I think it was both the writing and narration。Thanks to Recorded Books for the ALC and this opportunity! Last Man Standing is the first in a new trilogy by Craig A Falconer。 I was grateful to receive an ARC from the author。This is not what I expected when I started reading it。 The cover had me thinking it was a book about some space war where the lead character was the last man standing after a furious battle and how he had to cope with it。 Well, I was dead wrong, and I'm glad I was。 Ray Barclay was sent to the Beacon, a space station far away from Earth to test his experiment of introducing Theoci Last Man Standing is the first in a new trilogy by Craig A Falconer。 I was grateful to receive an ARC from the author。This is not what I expected when I started reading it。 The cover had me thinking it was a book about some space war where the lead character was the last man standing after a furious battle and how he had to cope with it。 Well, I was dead wrong, and I'm glad I was。 Ray Barclay was sent to the Beacon, a space station far away from Earth to test his experiment of introducing Theocite-enriched BioZol。 If his experiment works, it would be a revolutionary way to change space travel。 He was working off site with other scientists and their projects。 Up here, if things go badly, at least Earth won't be blown to bits。 Ray really didn't want that to happen。 His lady love Eve and her young son Joe were waiting for him back home。 All he can think about is their reunion and having the life they dreamed of together。 But naturally things start to go wrong, in a huge and horrible way。If you have read any of Craig's books, you know it will be good。 If you haven't read any, what are you waiting for? Last Man Standing would be a good place to start。 This trilogy has the makings of a great read。 。。。more

Thanks to NetGalley and RB Media for an advanced audio copy in exchange for an honest review。 4 starsFun adventure with Ray Barclay as he discovers that he is the only person left alive on a space station。 Reminded me a bit of The Martian。 Looking forward to the next book in the series。 Scott Aiello did a wonderful job narrating the book。

3。5 starsThis was a really engaging sci fi thriller that pulled me right in (despite a slump sick mood)。 It takes a special book to grab my attention in this brain fog。 I got the opportunity to listen to the audiobook which I highly recommend。 I've heard this particular narrator before and he does an amazing job of making our protagonist immediately relatable。 The story itself was fast paced and compelling with a good balance of action and subtle humor。Disclaimer I received a copy of this book f 3。5 starsThis was a really engaging sci fi thriller that pulled me right in (despite a slump sick mood)。 It takes a special book to grab my attention in this brain fog。 I got the opportunity to listen to the audiobook which I highly recommend。 I've heard this particular narrator before and he does an amazing job of making our protagonist immediately relatable。 The story itself was fast paced and compelling with a good balance of action and subtle humor。Disclaimer I received a copy of this book from the publisher。 。。。more

Last Man Standing is, as its title indicates, the story of one man's survival skills in the face of massive catastrophe。 A scientist in the field of bleeding-edge energy sources, Ray is a visiting researcher on board a corporate-owned space station in near-future Earth's orbit。 But when the day of his research breakthrough, a day meant to be filled with congrats and plans for home, gets interrupted by disaster, he'll call on every skill he has to make it home and save humanity。Heavily reminiscen Last Man Standing is, as its title indicates, the story of one man's survival skills in the face of massive catastrophe。 A scientist in the field of bleeding-edge energy sources, Ray is a visiting researcher on board a corporate-owned space station in near-future Earth's orbit。 But when the day of his research breakthrough, a day meant to be filled with congrats and plans for home, gets interrupted by disaster, he'll call on every skill he has to make it home and save humanity。Heavily reminiscent of Andy Weir's near future fiction, I nevertheless highly appreciated the mundane bend to the main character, Ray。 He's an expert in his field, all right, but that doesn't mean he has a lick of sense or a clue where comes to any topic beyond the research that he's devoted his life to。 I liked the realism inherent in that characterization: the myopia of advanced research that means, contrary to how scientists are often portrayed in fiction, they are not experts in everything。As the readers, we are tightly wound up in Ray's perspective and backstory。 The effect is humanizing, but can lean towards repetitive at times。 He's not the most interesting character out there。 However, beyond his thoughts about the matter the turning points and plot happenings carry on a stellar clip, with some reveals expected and others wholly surprising。 Last Man Standing would be an enjoyable read (along with its follow-ups) for anyone enamoured of The Martian and looking for more。 。。。more

I loved this book。 The Martian and Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir are two of my favorite books and this one is a great story in the same vein。 It has humor and science in space。 I am running right now and hoping that the second one is available because it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger。 Less swearing than the Andy Weir books too which is a good thing in my opinion。 If you like sci-fi with humor this is a great choice! This was an awesome audiobook, I finished a couple of days ago the Hail Mary (audiobook) and I must say that this one is as good, if you liked the hail Mary you will like this one, maybe is not that big on science, but in the other hand the main character in this book sounds more relatable, he is a broken human with his fears, flaws and traumas just like you and me and I did enjoy that a lot。 And when Ray thinks about his past is not as detailed as in Andy weir books and that for me was a plus。 This was an awesome audiobook, I finished a couple of days ago the Hail Mary (audiobook) and I must say that this one is as good, if you liked the hail Mary you will like this one, maybe is not that big on science, but in the other hand the main character in this book sounds more relatable, he is a broken human with his fears, flaws and traumas just like you and me and I did enjoy that a lot。 And when Ray thinks about his past is not as detailed as in Andy weir books and that for me was a plus。 The only down of this book is, that it is a trilogy and we will need to read what comes next to know the end of the story, but that is not a deal breaker for me。 Also the person that was reading this book, Scott Aiello was the PERFECT voice to give life to Ray, and all the cast of this book, this was 5 out of 5 I loved each minute of this audiobook。 I highly recommend this Audiobook。Thank you NetGalley and RB Media for the Wonderful AAC and this is my honest opinion。 。。。more
