Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L。 Armentrout comes book two in her Flesh and Fire series…

The only one who can save Sera now is the one she spent her life planning to kill。

The truth about Sera’s plan is out, shattering the fragile trust forged between her and Nyktos。 Surrounded by those distrustful of her, all Sera has is her duty。 She will do anything to end Kolis, the false King of Gods, and his tyrannical rule of Iliseeum, thus stopping the threat he poses to the mortal realm。

Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them。 Sera cannot afford to fall for the tortured Primal, not when a life no longer bound to a destiny she never wanted is more attainable than ever。 But memories of their shared pleasure and unrivaled desire are a siren’s call impossible to resist。

And as Sera begins to realize that she wants to be more than a Consort in name only, the danger surrounding them intensifies。 The attacks on the Shadowlands are increasing, and when Kolis summons them to Court, a whole new risk becomes apparent。 The Primal power of Life is growing inside her, pushing her closer to the end of her Culling。 And without Nyktos’s love—an emotion he’s incapable of feeling—she won’t survive her Ascension。 That is if she even makes it to her Ascension and Kolis doesn’t get to her first。 Because time is running out。 For both her and the realms。

How do you word a review when everytime you review a book from the same author, you end up saying the same thing over and over again。Jennifer is brilliant。I thought the original Blood and Ash series was going to be my favorite but this companion is certainly creeping its way up there。I think it's Sera。 I absolutely adore Sera。Of course, the romance between her and Nyktos is amazing and steamy。 And the friendships she's made with guards, gods, primals and draken is adorable (especially with the b How do you word a review when everytime you review a book from the same author, you end up saying the same thing over and over again。Jennifer is brilliant。I thought the original Blood and Ash series was going to be my favorite but this companion is certainly creeping its way up there。I think it's Sera。 I absolutely adore Sera。Of course, the romance between her and Nyktos is amazing and steamy。 And the friendships she's made with guards, gods, primals and draken is adorable (especially with the bb drakens)。。。 but I think what I like about her the most is the way Jen portrays her struggles with anxiety and mental health issues。I'm unsure why I'm so impacted by her writing a character that struggles with anxiety。 I think it's just that I wish people would talk about it more。。。 understand it and not act like it's this horrible, shameful thing that needs to be hidden away。I've struggled with anxiety。 A lot。 There were some things that stuck out more than others in this。。。 the breathing technique for one and the conversation she had with Nyktos about Lathan。 How Lathan would start feeling like he couldn't breath and it always happened as he was trying to fall asleep。 What Nektas told him about the anxieties from the day catching up to him when everything was quiet was what my first therapist said to me。 I haven't seen anything about anyone else experiencing the same thing as me and seeing it in writing, even in a fiction book was intensely soothing。Anyways。。。Jen writes romance and action, mixed with vague prophecies and clever banter that will have you giggling。I adore these books so much ❤️Edit to add, I pictured Nyktos as Jason Momoa the entire time I read and trust me when I say, it totally fits 🤣👌 。。。more

I received an ARC of this book and here is my unpaid honest review。 FOUR STARS! JLA described needing to write this companion series in order to explain how the FBAA world came to be, the lore, the history, the magic, the gods。 So much of that was explained in this book。 IMO it was VERY lore/world building heavy (so many names to remember!)。 I think this is why it moved a bit slow for me。 There was still story too, and MUCH more spice。 I didn't like it as much as ASITE, but the contents of this I received an ARC of this book and here is my unpaid honest review。 FOUR STARS! I love Nyktos and Sera so much。 But also all the side characters AND the dynamics between everyone。 JLA banter was delivered per usual。 I struggled a bit with the modern vernacular in a high fantasy world。 The Greek mythology meets a unique take on vampires continues to draw me in。 I love this world。 I will be back! Ready for the next one! Ps。 thoroughly recommend an ASITE re read - or some really good notes。 。。。more

Wow。 A Light in the Flame (ALITF) takes places as soon as A Shadow in the Ember ends。 The sexual tension in this book can be tasted。 Nyktos is hotter than hot。 Sera is a force of her own。 She is fierce and willing to do anything it takes。 I laughed。 I sobbed。 I gasped。 I didn't want it to end。 Jennifer L Armentrout addresses several things in this book。 One of them being anxiety。 The way she handles Sera's anxiety is top notch。 Sera struggles and the breathing techniques she uses are technequies Wow。 A Light in the Flame (ALITF) takes places as soon as A Shadow in the Ember ends。 The sexual tension in this book can be tasted。 Nyktos is hotter than hot。 Sera is a force of her own。 She is fierce and willing to do anything it takes。 I laughed。 I sobbed。 I gasped。 I didn't want it to end。 Jennifer L Armentrout addresses several things in this book。 One of them being anxiety。 The way she handles Sera's anxiety is top notch。 Sera struggles and the breathing techniques she uses are technequies I have had to use myself to calm down。 The way JLA handles people being family was one of my favorite quotes in the entire book: "Just because someone shares the same bloodline as you doesn't mean they deserve your time or thoughts。" I honestly can not wait to see where this series goes next。 Nyktos will do anything to save Sera。 I know Jennifer won't disappoint。 As a closing thought, Chapter 13 lives in my head rent free and I will be reading that portion again。 Whew。 。。。more

It was so good, watching Sera open up more and start thinking of wanting a future for herself and how she want's that to look。 For her and Nyktos to grow and learn about each other, it was good。The middle a bit slow but never dragging or boring。 The ending, well let's say Jennifer does know how to take you on a rollercoaster ride only now you are cut of right as you go over the edge。。I cannot wait to see how things will come together, not just with Sera and Nyktos but also what their roles will be in the From Blood and Ash books。What is this book about: The story takes of immediately where a shadow in the embers ended。 Nyktos and Sera are trying to deal with everything they just learned and all that is to come。Fates are not speaking kindly but something can trump even fate。。。 loveWhat did I like/love: All of it hahaWhat did I dislike/hate: That it had to end, i have no patience hahaRating:5 stars 。。。more

Book Review: A Light in the Flame by Jennifer L。 Armentrout Rating: 5/5 🖤When I found I was picked to be apart of JLA’s arc-reader group, I squealed。 It’s no secret I absolutely LOVE these books and it’s also no secret that I love the prequels even more than I love the original FBAA series。 This book only solidifies my unashamed favoritism (don’t worry, I still love you, Poppy & Casteel)Jennifer L。 Armentrout’s writing just gets better and better。 This book is her best, yet。 The character depth Book Review: A Light in the Flame by Jennifer L。 Armentrout Rating: 5/5 🖤When I found I was picked to be apart of JLA’s arc-reader group, I squealed。 It’s no secret I absolutely LOVE these books and it’s also no secret that I love the prequels even more than I love the original FBAA series。 This book only solidifies my unashamed favoritism (don’t worry, I still love you, Poppy & Casteel)Jennifer L。 Armentrout’s writing just gets better and better。 This book is her best, yet。 The character depth we get here is unmatched in her other books。 Seraphena struggles with anxiety, with guilt, with shame。 All of these emotions are handled with deft and care, and while Sera’s situation (being that she’s a Primal god and all) might not be relatable, her feelings most certainly are。 To me, that is what makes a *great* high fantasy: the ability for me to relate to these other worldly characters in a way that makes me say “I’ll follow them anywhere。” And I will follow Seraphena anywhere。 In this book we get to see her step into her power and… damn, she’s badass。 Now, I know you’re all wondering: What about Daddy Nyktos? WELL。 This man。 This broken, beautiful, sexy man。 We get to see his softer sides in this book。 JLA manages to pull us into his mind and his motivations even though we’re in Seraphena’s head—that’s how much Seraphena GETS Nyktos。 This is the sweetest of all JLA’s books。 There is so much relationship growth and the two opening up to one another。 But there’s also simmering tension (and some hot, hot spice)。 Every time these two kissed I, no lie, gasped。 That’s how much electricity there is。 No, there aren’t love scenes every other page (don’t worry there are plenty!!), but I think that made them so much better。 It’s like we are there with Sera BEGGING and WAITING for Nyktos to give us what we need, what we want…。 and, oh, does he (; I could write a short novel on the character development in this book (hi Reaver and Aios) but it’s not just character development。 There’s plenty of action and plot; you’ll be feverishly turning the pages。 I usually skip over the battle scenes (lol) but I didn’t in this book!! They weren’t too long and JLA added in lots of internal emotion from Sera that made it feel less like a fight scene and more like Sera taking back control and harnessing HER embers。 The way she cares so deeply and wants to save everyone I…。 🥺 Oh, and that ending?! Prepare yourselves。 A Light in the Flame hits shelves November 15! I’m counting down the days to getting my hands on the hardcover to add to my collection。 Side note: These covers? Incredible。 。。。more

Fucking! Shit! I honestly do not know what to say other than that。 I knew this book would be good, I mean it is JLA after all… but I wasn’t expecting it be such a moving and powerful book。 A Light in the Flame is possibly her best book to date, and I seriously cannot wait for everyone to read this phenomenal book! It was everything I was hoping for and more。 I laughed, I cried, I fell even more in love, I cried, I was hanging on to the edge of my seat… oh and did I mention I cried?A Light in the Flame picks up where A Shadow in the Ember left off, with Sera reeling after Nyktos’ discovery that she was planning to kill him all along。 Add that tension to the fact that the Embers of Life inside of her are slowly killing her, they need to find a way to remove them before Sera succumbs to their power。 Honestly this entire book was a fast-paced and action-packed story and I loved it so much。 Sometimes with Romantasy books I do feel like the plot takes a bit of a backseat for the romance, and while there is plenty of romance in this book, that is just not the case。 It was so action packed and I adored every single moment of it。This is without a doubt one of the most emotional of Jennifer’s books。 While there is a big focus on the plot, one thing I adored about this book is that it is deep dive into mental health as well。 We see a much more vulnerable side to Sera and I adored it。 Sera had anxiety and the way Jen tackled this throughout the book was just utterly perfect。 As someone who suffers from anxiety myself, I can’t tell you how much this book means to me for the utterly perfect portrayal of this sometimes debilitating disorder。 Jen really put so much of my experiences into words and I can’t thank her enough for this raw and realistic look at what living with anxiety can be like。 I found it just so emotional and it was just utterly perfect!I know I say this with every Jennifer L Armentrout book, but this is without a doubt my favourite and her best work yet。 I honestly don’t know how she does it。 We all know it will end up okay, because it’s a prequel series but I was still screaming TELL ME THIS WILL END UP OKAY! This entire book is an emotional rollercoaster, one you want to be on。 I love that she made me feel every single emotion that the characters were feeling。 And I’m sorry to all you Cas and Poppy stans, but Nyktos and Sera are without a doubt my favourites (as they were in ASITE)。 I just adore everything about them。 This book is filled with twists and turns that I couldn’t guess, which is an immediate plus for me。 I just adored everything about this book。If you’re looking for a new series to dive into, I cannot recommend this one enough。 It is utter perfection。 I have been left reeling dying to get my hands on the next book to find out how everything plays out。 Jennifer is an absolute writing genius, and I will forever fangirl over everything she writes。 A Light in the Flame had everything, dragons, action, spice, romance, and such a powerful and important look into mental health, and how it’s okay not to be okay。 This is her best work to date and you do not want to miss it! It is… in a word… perfection! “Love makes anything possible。 Makes anyone capable of the unexpected。” 。。。more

A Light in the Flame is the second book of the Flesh and Fire series, and I got an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 It was my first Jennifer L。 Armentrout ARC, since I became part of the team, and it was something that I dreamed of for years now。 I had high expectations for this book, and it didn’t disappoint。 This was one of my favorite JLA books。 I still have no words to describe how much I loved it and how much it drove me crazy! It’s a rollercoaster of emotions。 I was addicted and spent A Light in the Flame is the second book of the Flesh and Fire series, and I got an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 It was my first Jennifer L。 Armentrout ARC, since I became part of the team, and it was something that I dreamed of for years now。 I had high expectations for this book, and it didn’t disappoint。 This was one of my favorite JLA books。 I still have no words to describe how much I loved it and how much it drove me crazy! It’s a rollercoaster of emotions。 I was addicted and spent three days doing nothing but reading。 It’s a big book, a lot happens, and new information is revealed: we get some answers, and we get more questions。 It’s a book that has everything: great characters - with great development - good action scenes, and important scenes where so much happens and changes, and I had to stop to process everything I had just read。 The first half of the book is a little slower than the second, but both have their importance for the story。 I guessed part of the end, but it still left me screaming at my kindle, with the way things happened。 I have so may theories and thoughts and this book is not even out yet and I cannot wait for the next one already。About the characters。 Sera is becoming one of my favorite characters ever。 I loved her so much in this book! She is so strong and snarky and has this powerful personality that makes her strong and vulnerable at the same time。 I love the fact that even if she is a badass she has scars that she is working on healing and that makes her character more complex and interesting。 Also, her sarcasm and snarkiness are hilarious, I love the way she doesn’t take crap from anyone。 Nyktos was even better in this book, in my opinion。 We got to see more sides of him, and he is so dreamy! I really liked his character, as a man, the love interest, and as a primal god。 He is complicated but he is a good guy and would do everything for the ones he cares about。 Usually, I am more of an anti-hero kind of girl and prefer the bad boys, but Jen got me with Nyktos, I really swooned for him during the whole book。 With how much I loved these two, it’s no surprise that I loved the romance aspect of the book。 The sexual tension and angst were off the charts, but also the sweet moments, and confections, and the way they are there for the other, even when they don’t realize they needed each other。 The side characters as it’s Jen style are also amazing, and great complements to the story。 The Draken are my favorite though。 Nektas with his wisdom and humor – he has this way of always knowing everything and uses that to annoy Sera and it’s hilarious – and the babies Jadis and Reaver, they are the sweetest thing and I want a baby Draken。 In this book we also have a better approach to the real enemies, we get to know more about what is really at stake here, and the game levels up。 We also have new characters, some good, some bad, but all are important pieces on the chess board。 But there are three specific characters that I really want to see painfully dead。 With everything we discovered in this book and the prophecy, the connections with the From blood and Ash series are growing and I’m so curious to find out what is Jen’s master plan with all of this。 The book was amazing, five stars because I cannot give more, because if I could give a hundred I would。 I laughed like a maniac and cried like a baby。 Jen plays with our emotions, and I loved every single page。 It gave me one of the biggest book hangovers of my life and reinforced JLA as my favorite author ever。 。。。more

A light in the flame is a spectacular book。 It picks up right after the story left off in An ember in the flames。 The characters, the development of the story, the plot twist was all so well written。 Absolutely loved Nyktos and Seraphena and their interactions within this book, the romance that they have is top tier。 And the development of both of the characters is well done, Seraphena realizes her worth and Nyktos learns he isn’t the A light in the flame review! Oh my wow I need book three immediately JLA how dare you write such an amazing ending and not have the next book out! I can’t wait for the third book in this series! 。。。 。。。more

This world hooked me from the very first book and I love how much this world has expanded and that we have gotten to explore so many corners of this world。 I’ve loved every book in the Blood & Ash universe, but I wasn’t sure anything could top Crown Of Gilded Bones…。 but A Light In The Flame did。 This book is my favorite to date and it just knocked it out of the park。 I adore Sera and Nyktos。 I love how Sera is such a fighter but still has her struggles and I love her snark。 She never backs down This world hooked me from the very first book and I love how much this world has expanded and that we have gotten to explore so many corners of this world。 I’ve loved every book in the Blood & Ash universe, but I wasn’t sure anything could top Crown Of Gilded Bones…。 but A Light In The Flame did。 This book is my favorite to date and it just knocked it out of the park。 I adore Sera and Nyktos。 I love how Sera is such a fighter but still has her struggles and I love her snark。 She never backs down and fights for the things that are important to her。 And Nyktos… he is just…。 I love him。 I love him so much。 He is one who’s actions speak louder than words and his actions SCREAM。 I love their chemistry and their banter is so much fun。 AND THEN WE HAVE NEKTAS。 He may just be my favorite。 I loved him and his commentary and just everything about him。 Also honorable mention to Reaver and Jadis who are such sweeties and seeing little Reaver melts my heart。 There is a lot I love about this series but I especially love how it explains so much about what Cas and Poppy are dealing with in their time。 It’s also a testament to how knowing where things end up for some characters doesn’t necessarily take away from the story。 This had me on edge and was very hard to put down。 Up to now I’ve been slightly more partial to Cas and Poppy’s story… but this book changed the game。 Sera and Nyktos just stole my heart in this one and everything about this book was engrossing。 I hate comparing them because I really love them both and just this world in general, but there is no denying this one was my favorite by a long shot。 The moment I closed the book I wanted to start it all over again。 A Light In The Flame simply delivered。 Easily one of my favorite books of the year and the end knocked me on my behind。 I truly cannot wait to see how all of these books come together into one story。 I have so many questions and I keep trying to put all the pieces together and I just can’t wait to finally see the full picture。 。。。more

A Light in the Flame is absolutely incredible! I didn't want to stop reading, it had me hating to do anything else。 For me, that is always a sure sign of an incredible book。 Jennifer has this incredible way of making you feel so much for her characters。 There is some mental health discussions in this book and some of it I related to so much, some of it I didn't, but it was incredibly moving all the same。 This book means the world to me and it definitely has to be added to one of my top favorites A Light in the Flame is absolutely incredible! 5/5This book!!! It’s no surprise that I fall in love with all of JLA’s writing, but seriously this was such a good continuation in the Flesh and Fire series! It picks up right where A Shadow in the Ember left。 The plot was well done, and paced really well - it is a longer book but I honestly didn’t notice until I got to the cliffhanger at the end。 This book will make you feel all the emotions, and if you haven’t already, you’ll fall in love with Nyktos and Sera, and all the side characters。 I can 5/5This book!!! Wow, another fantastic book by JLA。 I think the beginning of this book might be my favorite so far。 In the other books in this world, I found the beginning to be a little bit slow, which is totally understandable since it's high fantasy and we usually need to be introduced into the world。 Still, in ALITF I felt the beginning being more like medium pace, which I loved。With the middle and end of the book, I'm not going to lie, once I hit 50% of the book, I read the last half in one day。 I read whi Wow, another fantastic book by JLA。 I think the beginning of this book might be my favorite so far。 In the other books in this world, I found the beginning to be a little bit slow, which is totally understandable since it's high fantasy and we usually need to be introduced into the world。 Still, in ALITF I felt the beginning being more like medium pace, which I loved。With the middle and end of the book, I'm not going to lie, once I hit 50% of the book, I read the last half in one day。 I read while I was waiting in the car for my bestie, I read while I was in classes, and I read while I was eating, honestly, I couldn't stop。 About the ending, this isn't a spoiler but I do love the ending, even tho there is certain stuff that confuses me, I feel I need to reread the book to find those hidden hints and maybe understand better something that happens more at the end of the book。About the characters, I really like Nyktos, I'm not going to lie, there were parts in the book I was frustrated with him but I like the protective side of him, and everything he was doing for her。 As for Sera, her bravery sometimes became foolish but I think it didn't cross the line so it's alright。 I think who stole my heart in this book was Raver, Jadis and the draken in general, but especially Raver, I want to reread all the scenes of him in FBA。Anyway this book is a masterpiece。 There wasn't a single part of it that I didn't love。 。。。more

The Light In The Flame is the phenormal second book, in the Flesh And Fire series。 OH MY FREAKING GOD!!!!!!!!。 Where do I begin to explain how utterly breathtaking this read is? I was lucky enough to receive the ARC book, and I dived right in。 I tried to read it slowly and take my time so I could take every bit of information in LOL,  yeah it was hard to read slowly。 I do totally recommend rereading A Shadow In The Ember to refresh yourself, cause I totally did and so glad I did I enjoyed it eve The Light In The Flame is the phenormal second book, in the Flesh And Fire series。 OH MY FREAKING GOD!!!!!!!!。 Where do I begin to explain how utterly breathtaking this read is? I received an e-ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review。 Review can be found on *Milky Way of Books*。 This review contains minor spoilers from previous books。WARNING: It is best to read the series from Blood and Ash and then begin the prequel series as many points in the prequel series may make sense regarding the main books。Oh boy。。。where to begin, where to begin。 It took me close to two weeks to gather my thoughts on this book and find the guts to write a review that explains why I received an e-ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review。 Review can be found on *Milky Way of Books*。 This review contains minor spoilers from previous books。WARNING: It is best to read the series from Blood and Ash and then begin the prequel series as many points in the prequel series may make sense regarding the main books。Oh boy。。。where to begin, where to begin。 It took me close to two weeks to gather my thoughts on this book and find the guts to write a review that explains why I am still in a deep pit of feelings that no one can -still- understand and also try to not spoiler anything。No pressure。A Light in the Flame picks up shortly after the events of the first book, where Sera's true purpose is revealed and despite the distrust she gets from Nyktos's court。。。well she is right。 Being brought up as a weapon and not a human being can cause lots of issues in any human psyche。 And that is where we find Sera throughout the book。 On a gradual journey to uncover the mystery behind a way to save their world from the Rot, usurp Kolis, restore the balance between Life and Death, and not die in the process, all the while battling her feelings for Nyktos and trying to see the value in her own self through the eyes of others。I loved the character development here。 For it felt like the plot was going quite slowly but it was within those scenes that you could get hints of various plot crumbs here and there。 I love Nektas the dude has no filter for a drakken and baby Jadis and Reaver were adorable。 Did I also get some Rhysand-feels when I read about Nyktos transforming into。。。something? (insert anime screaming here)。 And the battles were great too and very well described。 Not to mention the。。。。intimate moments *wink wink*Another part I did get the chance to read about was Kolis's court。 That Primal is indeed really nuts and crazy。 Not to mention that by the time the ending was drawing near I became more and more anxious about what would happen because while the book was a gradual and steady development, the last chapters were a rollercoaster of emotions and revelations that left me crying。The ending as mentioned was a cliffhanger and I am still not ok。 Will I survive it? I survived Jennifer's Opal when it had first come out and that is a statement :PAbsolutely recommended and I can not wait for you to read it when it releases! 。。。more
