You can always count on K。L。 Slater to give you a jaw dropping read！ After Jennifer receives the shocking news that her husband Cole is dead she is then blindsided by the news that not only did her husband have a girlfriend but they had a baby together and everything Jennifer thought was hers has actually been signed over to the girlfriend。 And that’s no even the half of it！ A must read！ I thank Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book。

Let me start by saying I love a good psychological thriller， and this had so much promise， the plot had me hooked and I was looking forward to reading this book。 The premise is brilliant， I'd never read anything like it and that's saying something。 This did have me sitting reading page after page to see what was going to happen next， who Jennifer could trust， who knew about the financial issues， who knew about the affairs， Sara and Rory， and just how much of a double life Cole was leading。 If yo Let me start by saying I love a good psychological thriller， and this had so much promise， the plot had me hooked and I was looking forward to reading this book。 The premise is brilliant， I'd never read anything like it and that's saying something。 This did have me sitting reading page after page to see what was going to happen next， who Jennifer could trust， who knew about the financial issues， who knew about the affairs， Sara and Rory， and just how much of a double life Cole was leading。 If you're looking for a psychological thriller that will competely engulf you in its complexity then this is a great book for you， it's a great story and I wanted to love it there were just a few things that didn't add up to me。 I understand that wives sign documents for their husband's businesses all the time without reading them， that part I believed， however the part I had the biggest problem with was Cole having no life insurance。 How does someone with multiple children with multiple women， a business， and assets not have life insurance， I realize that could have completely changed the plot of the book but for it to not be at least mentioned seemed like such a huge loophole to me and I couldn't stop thinking about it as the book went on。 In my opinion this is a 3。5 star book。 Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing an advance copy of this ebook， I have voluntarily read and reviewed it and all thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

Wow， this book will leave you with your head spinning！！ K L Slater does it again！！ I love this author and her books never disappoint！ You will need to set aside time once you start The Girlfriend because you won't be able to put it down！ The book opens with Cole and his wife Jennifer preparing their yard for a huge Halloween/Birthday party。 They've gone all out and hired a caterer， decorators， and have a ton of family and friends coming。 Their young daughter， Sylvie， is excited for the costume p Wow， this book will leave you with your head spinning！！ K L Slater does it again！！ I love this author and her books never disappoint！ You will need to set aside time once you start The Girlfriend because you won't be able to put it down！ The book opens with Cole and his wife Jennifer preparing their yard for a huge Halloween/Birthday party。 They've gone all out and hired a caterer， decorators， and have a ton of family and friends coming。 Their young daughter， Sylvie， is excited for the costume party， but their teenage son， Miller， doesn't want to attend。 Cole leaves the house stumbling around and falls on the front porch， Miller sees this happen and thinks that his Dad is drunk again。 He notices that something falls out of Cole's pocket when he falls。 Cole gets up， walks to his Range Rover， and takes off。 Miller comes down to see what fell out of Cole's pocket。 After a little looking he locates a silver phone， but his Dad's phone is black！ Who's phone is this？ Why does his Dad have it？A bit latter there's a knock on the door。 The caterers tell Jennifer that there are 2 policemen looking for her。 She has been trying to call and text Cole for the last couple of hours as it's getting close to party time。 He hasn't returned any text or call。 As she goes to answer the door， the 2 policemen ask if they could come in？ Jennifer escorts them into the living room and they have a seat。 The policemen tell Jennifer that Cole has been in a very serious car accident and that he did not survive his injuries！ Cole is dead。 Jennifer is devastated and in shock。 Her mom gives her a pill to help her relax and puts her to bed。 When Jennifer wakes up hours later， her mom， sister and her decide it's time to tell the kids about their Dad。 They break the news to the kids and the kids are very upset。 Later that same night there's another knock on the door。 Jennifer's mom answers the door and it's a woman she doesn't recognize， The woman insists that she needs to speak to Jennifer so her mom goes to get her。 The woman at the door is holding a baby。 When Jennifer comes in， she doesn't recognize the woman either and wonders why she would bother her the day her husband died？ She's very insistent， so Jennifer lets her in。 Once they're seated， the woman， Sara， tells Jennifer that she and Cole had been seeing each other。 Sara tells Jennifer that the baby， Rory， is his son！！ She also tells Jennifer that Cole was planning on leaving her and moving in with Sara and Rory。 As if things weren't bad enough， she then tells Jennifer that Cole was having financial problems and came to her for help。 Sara loaned Cole the money to pay for the house renovations and the 2 new cars。 Sara tells Jennifer that the house she is living in belongs to her as do the 2 cars， one of which has been totaled。 Talk about a bad day， right？ Jennifer's husband dies， she finds out he's been having an affair， he has a child with the mistress， he was planning on leaving her， and the house she's living in with her 2 kids isn't hers！ That's just the beginning of the book！！ I'm telling you put time aside and read this book！！ It will grab you and not let go！ There are some twists that will keep you guessing throughout this thrilling book。 I rated the book 5 stars and I enjoyed it thoroughly。 I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for a fair review。 #TheGirlfriend #NetGalley 。。。more

Omg what a read！！！I love this author and for me this is her best book so far。 I loved everything about this book， great characters， full of tension and suspense and a storyline that had me gripped from the first to last page。 Cancel everything and read this book。 I promise that you will not be disappointed。 Another thrill ride from one of my favourite and very talented authors。 Loved it。Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review。

I love KL Slater thrillers but alas this was not one of her better ones。 Jennifer's husband Cole dies in an accident， although his autopsy reveals that his death was the result of an earlier incident where he suffered a blow to the head。 In shock， she answers the door to Sara and baby Rory， his secret girlfriend and son， who appears to have bankrolled Cole。 Because of airtight contracts Sara now owns everything including the home Jennifer and her two children Miller and Sylvie live in。 Because I love KL Slater thrillers but alas this was not one of her better ones。 Jennifer's husband Cole dies in an accident， although his autopsy reveals that his death was the result of an earlier incident where he suffered a blow to the head。 In shock， she answers the door to Sara and baby Rory， his secret girlfriend and son， who appears to have bankrolled Cole。 Because of airtight contracts Sara now owns everything including the home Jennifer and her two children Miller and Sylvie live in。 Because Sara is desperate for a family environment of her own she suggests nesting to Jennifer and thus continues this convoluted story。Though entertaining， I found the plot and characters implausible。 3 stars。 。。。more
