I received this book as a giveaway from the publishers。 This is the second book I have read by Jenny Lawson, and they were both wonderful。 I would love to meet this hilarious woman someday, but I'm pretty sure are combined anxiety will prevent that。 She talks about her own mental health issues and the ups and downs of her marriage。 I received this book as a giveaway from the publishers。 This is the second book I have read by Jenny Lawson, and they were both wonderful。 I would love to meet this hilarious woman someday, but I'm pretty sure are combined anxiety will prevent that。 She talks about her own mental health issues and the ups and downs of her marriage。 。。。more

Dear Broken,You are going to be a book that saves people, just by your existence。 Lawson is so brilliant at writing of her ridiculous life in such a funny way, and then taking that to a heartbreaking, poignant place of truth。 Honest to goodness, I laughed out loud, causing myself to choke, and making me read passages to my husband, over and over, to only find myself, a chapter later, sniffling and looking for the tissues。 I loved Furiously Happy, because it spoke to me in a really way, and helpe Dear Broken,You are going to be a book that saves people, just by your existence。 Lawson is so brilliant at writing of her ridiculous life in such a funny way, and then taking that to a heartbreaking, poignant place of truth。 Honest to goodness, I laughed out loud, causing myself to choke, and making me read passages to my husband, over and over, to only find myself, a chapter later, sniffling and looking for the tissues。 I loved Furiously Happy, because it spoke to me in a really way, and helped me get on medication to bring my depression under control。 Broken, I loved you in an entirely different way。 You are less about what makes Lawson broken and so much more about what makes every one of us HUMAN。 Those moments of devastating public humiliation, and 2 am sadness, drunken bad ideas with friends, and feeling out of place。 You are a treasure。 。。。more

Broken (in the best possible way) is the third book by Jenny Lawson and is currently scheduled for release on April 6 2021。 I have been a fan of Jenny Lawson since a coworker showed me her blog, and I was introduced to the joys of The Bloggess and tales of a giant metal chicken, taxidermied animals in interesting clothing and poses, and the stories she shared。 If you have never had the chance to enjoy all that, I highly suggest giving the blog a look。 I'll even point you in the right direction, Broken (in the best possible way) is the third book by Jenny Lawson and is currently scheduled for release on April 6 2021。 I have been a fan of Jenny Lawson since a coworker showed me her blog, and I was introduced to the joys of The Bloggess and tales of a giant metal chicken, taxidermied animals in interesting clothing and poses, and the stories she shared。 If you have never had the chance to enjoy all that, I highly suggest giving the blog a look。 I'll even point you in the right direction, go here: https://thebloggess。com/。As Jenny Lawson’s hundreds of thousands of fans know, she suffers from depression。 In Broken, Jenny brings readers along on her mental and physical health journey, offering heartbreaking and hilarious anecdotes along the way。 With people experiencing anxiety and depression now more than ever, Jenny humanizes what we all face in an all-too-real way, reassuring us that we’re not alone and making us laugh while doing it。 From the business ideas that she wants to pitch to Shark Tank to the reason why Jenny can never go back to the post office, Broken leaves nothing to the imagination in the most satisfying way。 And of course, Jenny’s long-suffering husband Victor—the Ricky to Jenny’s Lucille Ball—is present throughout。 A treat for Jenny Lawson’s already existing fans, and destined to convert new ones, Broken is a beacon of hope and a wellspring of laughter when we all need it most。I do not know what I can say to describe and recommend this book more than its own blurb。 Jenny has shared her struggles, her stories, and herself with readers for years。 I think now that so many more people are feeling shattered and broken in their own ways, that people are admitting to themselves and others that they could use some help, that this kind of honesty and humor is needed and appreciated。 If you are looking for a linear memoir or nonfiction offering with perfect answers and a solid conclusion then this is not for you。 However, if you want a book that offers an honest look at how hard it is to live with autoimmune disorders, depression, anxiety, and more with humor and a deep sense of understanding and camaraderie then this IS the book for you。 Some of the stories I remember because I follow Jenny on social media, but none of it felt rehashed or recycled。 I found myself laugh/crying in bed one night while I was reading this- which my cats did not appreciate。 I really frond joy in some of the stories, secondary embarrassment in others, and a sense of 'that is something that would happen to me' in far too many。 More than anything, the book offered a connection and hope, that no matter what none of us are the only one to being feeling a certain way, or fighting our own demons, even if we have somehow convinced ourselves and others that we are just fine。 It also reminded me, that those people around me that I think have it all together, are dealing with something too- so lets all just be kind and help each other through life。 。。。more

Happy book birthday eve to Jenny Lawson! Broken (In The Best Possible Way) debuts tomorrow, and let me tell you right now — this book is SO FREAKIN GOOD。 I won an early copy from Goodreads, and I’ve been carrying it around everywhere for the past few days as I made my way through Jenny Lawson’s brilliant essays about mental health (and illness) and stories that perfectly illustrate just how awkward it is to simply be a damn human in this world。 “The Things We Do To Quiet The Monsters” felt like Happy book birthday eve to Jenny Lawson! BROKEN (In the Best Possible Way) by Jenny Lawson is hilarious — like need to leave my bedroom and convulsively cackle-sob-laugh elsewhere lest I wake my sleeping husband — level hilarious。 Some faves:* These Truisms Leave Out a Lot of the Truth * And Then I Bought Condoms for my Dog In addition to her funny AF everything, her straightforward and open discussion of her ongoing struggles with mental illness are extremely relatable and moving, and I so appreciate her vulnerability and honesty。 Hig BROKEN (In the Best Possible Way) by Jenny Lawson is hilarious — like need to leave my bedroom and convulsively cackle-sob-laugh elsewhere lest I wake my sleeping husband — level hilarious。 Some faves:* These Truisms Leave Out a Lot of the Truth * And Then I Bought Condoms for my Dog In addition to her funny AF everything, her straightforward and open discussion of her ongoing struggles with mental illness are extremely relatable and moving, and I so appreciate her vulnerability and honesty。 Highly recommended! * Thank you to NetGalley and Henry Holt Publishers for the review ARC — release date 4/6/21 * 。。。more

Two chapters in to this book and I had already laughed out loud (rare for me!) and cried。 I decided right then that this book would get 5 stars from me, regardless of how the rest of it went。 If you have an aversion to foul language I wouldn't recommend this one, but I enjoyed listening to Jenny read her book aloud! She has this sweet, Texas twang that makes the m-f-ers downright enjoyable。 And come on, after the year we've all had who doesn't crave a few m-f-ers now and then? Hands down my favorite Lawson book yet。 Lawson guys us with realness in this latest collection of essays, as she takes a deep dive into her mental health。 She shares about connecting with countless people making very human mistakes and feeling embarrassed。 She takes vulnerability to a new level with this book,as she opens up to connect with people about the shared experience of emotions。 We all feel them, but we sometimes forget to acknowledge them。 This is what I've been holding out for in read Hands down my favorite Lawson book yet。 Lawson guys us with realness in this latest collection of essays, as she takes a deep dive into her mental health。 She shares about connecting with countless people making very human mistakes and feeling embarrassed。 She takes vulnerability to a new level with this book,as she opens up to connect with people about the shared experience of emotions。 We all feel them, but we sometimes forget to acknowledge them。 This is what I've been holding out for in reading Lawson's books。 I wanted her quirky weirdness, but with the truth that's under these weird stories。 I wanted to know how these experiences make her feel, and I finally got to have that in this book。 So now not only is she sharing about how weird things are in her life, but now I can connect with her about these experiences through shared emotions。 All I can say is thank you, Jenny Lawson, for continuing to write and for striving to being the realness to your books。 。。。more

This was so good, pick it up ASAP if you liked her other books! This yo-yo'ed between making me crying (like when she discussed her Grandma's dementia or her letter to her health insurance) and laughing out loud。 It was relatable, fun to read, and hard to put down。 Every time she discussed her anxiety and awkwardness (especially the section where she had other people's stories as well) I just nodded my head like OMG that's me。 I so appreciate Jenny Lawson sharing her life's silly and serious par This was so good, pick it up ASAP if you liked her other books! I feel like Jenny is my spirit animal。Thank you for writing about the embarrassing things you do like starting fires in your house and making me feel better about when I start fires in my house (the latest was a toaster fire because setting it sideways shoots the hash brown patties out onto a plate like it would be in the beginning of Pee Wee's Big Adventure but it also sets all the crumbs and grease on fire)。And thank you for discussing your anxiety because it's good to have a buddy (an author I feel like Jenny is my spirit animal。Thank you for writing about the embarrassing things you do like starting fires in your house and making me feel better about when I start fires in my house (the latest was a toaster fire because setting it sideways shoots the hash brown patties out onto a plate like it would be in the beginning of Pee Wee's Big Adventure but it also sets all the crumbs and grease on fire)。And thank you for discussing your anxiety because it's good to have a buddy (an author you've met once) who also involuntarily tightens or shakes their hands when anxiety or sensory overload takes over and you realize you are not as unusual as you feel you are, although being unusual is also how you like it and would never want to be "normal。"Thank you for the laughs and the comforts and your vulnerability。 -Sara S。 。。。more

I have never read a book before that made me feel truly understood。 With humor and raw truth。 I finally found someone who put into words what anxiety and depression is,the way I wish I could。 I have read her other books and so far this is my new favorite。

I've loved Jenny's stories since Let's Pretend This Never Happened, which I think I listened to on CD while I was on a long road trip。 She is the reason that I always wait until the very end of an audiobook just in case there's a surprise from the author, but she is the only one I've seen do that。 I stayed in the car an extra 20 minutes to finish listening to her rambling。 I recommend her books to all weird girls。 I once bonded with a record store owner's wife over loving Jenny Lawson (the wife I've loved Jenny's stories since Let's Pretend This Never Happened, which I think I listened to on CD while I was on a long road trip。 She is the reason that I always wait until the very end of an audiobook just in case there's a surprise from the author, but she is the only one I've seen do that。 I stayed in the car an extra 20 minutes to finish listening to her rambling。 I recommend her books to all weird girls。 I once bonded with a record store owner's wife over loving Jenny Lawson (the wife sold her taxidermied squirrels in the store so it was a good bet that we'd get along。) Anywhooo, she writes stream-of-consciousness, she's just trying to tell you a story about a really weird thing that happened to her! She also writes about her crippling depression and anxiety both with gravitas and hilarity, which I'm sure many people could relate to these days。 I bet hardcore Jenny Lawson fans have a name for themselves, I wish I knew it。 。。。more

4。75 stars。 Overall, as delightful and insightful as her past book。 I laughed out loud SEVERAL times, usually to the point of tears (especially if it was after bedtime and I was trying to be quiet)。 Oh my god, the bit with the shoe ("Was that a snake??") had me in stitches。Taking off a fraction of a star because I feel like I did skim a little bit during some of the more metaphorical/existential bits, and there was a chapter near the end about inventions to present to Shark Tank that I could tel 4。75 stars。 Overall, as delightful and insightful as her past book。 I laughed out loud SEVERAL times, usually to the point of tears (especially if it was after bedtime and I was trying to be quiet)。 Oh my god, the bit with the shoe ("Was that a snake??") had me in stitches。Taking off a fraction of a star because I feel like I did skim a little bit during some of the more metaphorical/existential bits, and there was a chapter near the end about inventions to present to Shark Tank that I could tell was supposed to be funny, but felt pointless to me。。。which was kind of a downer way to end the book。 I'm still giving this book nearly full marks because there aren't many books that make me literally LOL this many times。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book a lot。 I had VERY high expectations after Furiously Happy made me laugh and and cry simultaneously for the entire book。 This didn’t quite hit that level。 Some chapters were laugh out loud hilarious。 Some of them were dead serious, and important (looking at you, health insurance Chapter)。 Some of them I wasn’t quite sure what to make of。 They felt like they were trying to have some heavy symbolic meaning。 Overall, excellent book, but didn’t quite live up to my very high hopes

I’ve read all Jenny’s books, follow her blog and her social media。 So I’m a big fan and feel like I know a lot of her story。 This is a deeper dive into the dark sides of her mental illness。 Balanced out with laugh til I cried stories。 It’s a good balance。 It’s an important story to share。 It felt darker than her other books, despite the hysterical stories included。 I would recommend that you be familiar with her story (social media) or read her other books before jumping into this one。 Thanks to I’ve read all Jenny’s books, follow her blog and her social media。 So I’m a big fan and feel like I know a lot of her story。 This is a deeper dive into the dark sides of her mental illness。 Balanced out with laugh til I cried stories。 It’s a good balance。 It’s an important story to share。 It felt darker than her other books, despite the hysterical stories included。 I would recommend that you be familiar with her story (social media) or read her other books before jumping into this one。 Thanks to GoodReads and the publisher for the advanced copy。 。。。more
