I can't even express how much I love this book! I didn't want this story to end!--Reese Witherspoon

Painfully beautiful。--The New York Times Book Review

For years, rumors of the Marsh Girl have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast。 So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl。 But Kya is not what they say。 Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand。 Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved。 When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens。

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder。 Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps。

(5/5) Really enjoyed listening to this one。 I wasn’t expecting to like it but I think everything came around in the end and it was really worthwhile。

I enjoyed this book--it made me feel warm and comforted with its beautiful imagery and detailed descriptions of the wetlands of the Atlantic coast。 I'm sure it will be a movie someday because it's the kind of stuff Hollywood people love: mysterious girl in the marsh, murder mystery, a bad boy depicted without a hint of nuance, a good boy who is too good, and a strange romance。 I read it over Christmas when I had a lot of time on my hands, and it was very entertaining。 I enjoyed this book--it made me feel warm and comforted with its beautiful imagery and detailed descriptions of the wetlands of the Atlantic coast。 I'm sure it will be a movie someday because it's the kind of stuff Hollywood people love: mysterious girl in the marsh, murder mystery, a bad boy depicted without a hint of nuance, a good boy who is too good, and a strange romance。 I read it over Christmas when I had a lot of time on my hands, and it was very entertaining。 。。。more

I think this book is as good as others say it is。 It was another selection by Mr B。I had read some reviews so I was prepared for the fact that the first few chapters were quite depressing。 Had I not been warned, I might have abandoned it at that point, but I carried on。 It turned out to be well worth it。 It is largely the story of a young girl (later a woman) abandoned by her family so that she brings herself up in a remote shack in the North Carolina marshes。 In that environment she learns not I think this book is as good as others say it is。 It was another selection by Mr B。I had read some reviews so I was prepared for the fact that the first few chapters were quite depressing。 Had I not been warned, I might have abandoned it at that point, but I carried on。 It turned out to be well worth it。 It is largely the story of a young girl (later a woman) abandoned by her family so that she brings herself up in a remote shack in the North Carolina marshes。 In that environment she learns not only how to survive, but a lot about the natural world around her。Being isolated her relationships are few - but important, and a vital aspect of the book。At the same time there is a thriller element to the book。 There is a death, and through flash-forwards and flash-backs, the reader learns of the mystery。 As such it would make a good mystery book in itself - with a number of unexpected twists。 。。。more

3。5 stars。 I really enjoyed it, a really great easy read。 I just didn’t like the trial and the ending。 That’s what lost stars for me。

Sometimes you read books that feel a little like comfort food。 They feel earnest, raw, sentimental, and tap into the emotions hidden deep down。 Where the Crawdads Sing is one of those books。Delia Owens creates a tale that spans across multiple genres - at times it feels as though you're reading a coming-of-age, parts of it feels like a romance, a murder mystery。 The narrative style is vivid and atmospheric - paying attention to the palmetto fronds and call of the gulls of coastal North Carolina。 Sometimes you read books that feel a little like comfort food。 They feel earnest, raw, sentimental, and tap into the emotions hidden deep down。 Where the Crawdads Sing is one of those books。Delia Owens creates a tale that spans across multiple genres - at times it feels as though you're reading a coming-of-age, parts of it feels like a romance, a murder mystery。 The narrative style is vivid and atmospheric - paying attention to the palmetto fronds and call of the gulls of coastal North Carolina。 We follow Kya, the Marsh Girl, abandoned by her family, left to fend for herself。 The reader follows her journey, we watch her grow up into a young woman in her twenties。 Kya is a flawed protagonist - the girl who had to grow up all too quickly, abandoned, having to look out for herself when no one else would。 For all her character flaws, Owens makes us realise that we should be rooting for her, right from the get-go。This book has received quite a lot of traction - and I'm disappointed it took me so long to get on the bandwagon。 But I'm so glad I have。 I couldn't recommend it more。 。。。more

I absolutely loved this book。 It had a great mix of drama, suspense amongst a romantic tale that had it's moments of sadness。 What a great story。 I absolutely loved this book。 It had a great mix of drama, suspense amongst a romantic tale that had it's moments of sadness。 What a great story。 。。。more

really beautifully written and gripping- I couldn’t put it down after the first 50 or so pages。 I think the ending was spot on。 Kya was such a lovely character and the marsh was a wonderful setting

It's good。 The descriptions of the marsh, the character work, even the dialogue (if sometimes a little forced) was good。 I enjoyed the book and feel validated in my desires to live as a lone Druid in the wilderness。 I would have rated this book 4 or even 4。5 stars, except for the very very end。 It's good。 The descriptions of the marsh, the character work, even the dialogue (if sometimes a little forced) was good。 I enjoyed the book and feel validated in my desires to live as a lone Druid in the wilderness。 I would have rated this book 4 or even 4。5 stars, except for the very very end。 。。。more

Knew how it would end from the beginning but not how it would get there。 Some interesting moments and character development but one of my least favorite recommended books in a while。

Ajoittain kirjassa yliromantisoitiin Kyan upeutta ehtaan fanfic-tyyliin: Epäluonnollisen kaunis tyttö, joka osaa kaiken ensiyrittämällä, pärjää "miesten töissä" ja kaikki miehet haluavat häntä epätoivoisesti。 Odotin loppuratkaisua innolla, mutta petyin hieman。 Olisi ollut uskottavampaa, kun murhan tekemiseen olisi ollut jokin keino, jota syyttäjä tai puolustaja eivät olisi keksineet。Olen ilmeisesti lukenut nyt PALJON äitiyteen liittyviä kirjoja, koska olin todella tyytyväinen, ettei Kyasta koskaan tullut äitiä ja kirjassa ei käsitelty lapsen saamista ollenkaan。 Se tuntui virkistävän erilaiselta。 Kaiken kaikkiaan kuitenkin hyvä ja mielenkiintoinen lukukokemus, toimi hyvin äänikirjana。 。。。more

I've been planning to read this book since it was first recommended by a friend and former mentor。 I started it a few days ago before I drifted off to sleep and early on it and the story of Kya had me fully engrossed and invested。I did not intend to sit down and finish it this morning。 But, that's precisely what I did。 Beautifully moving and oddly empowering。 What an incredibly poignant tale。 Beautifully written。 Hauntingly honest。 What an incredible book and character。 I've been planning to read this book since it was first recommended by a friend and former mentor。 I started it a few days ago before I drifted off to sleep and early on it and the story of Kya had me fully engrossed and invested。I did not intend to sit down and finish it this morning。 But, that's precisely what I did。 Beautifully moving and oddly empowering。 What an incredibly poignant tale。 Beautifully written。 Hauntingly honest。 What an incredible book and character。 。。。more

This is a beautiful story, told in dual timelines that eventually converge into one towards the end。 Kya's story of abandonment, loneliness, the indominateable will to survive, resilience, love, loss, and heartache, is one that resonates with many in spite of the differences in our circumstances。 Although some have criticised the writing, deeming it amateurish and poetic in equal parts, this - to my mind - is the nature of a telling from The Marsh Girl's point of view: a gifted naturalist and po This is a beautiful story, told in dual timelines that eventually converge into one towards the end。 Kya's story of abandonment, loneliness, the indominateable will to survive, resilience, love, loss, and heartache, is one that resonates with many in spite of the differences in our circumstances。 Although some have criticised the writing, deeming it amateurish and poetic in equal parts, this - to my mind - is the nature of a telling from The Marsh Girl's point of view: a gifted naturalist and poet at heart writing under a non-de-plume who nonetheless had only attended one day of school。 This is an unforgettable story whose characters and beautiful landscape will sit with me for a long time。 Cassandra Campbell's narration does it justice, and her evocation of Kya is flawless。 。。。more

DNF - very slow pacing。 I thought the setting was interesting and unique but a lot of aspects of the story weren’t super enjoyable to me, mainly how the MC is trying to emulate the stigmas of a “marsh girl” yet is also somehow extremely educated, speaks better English than the colored folk, and is considered a beauty by everyone。 I think a girl growing up on her own at age 6 would run into a lot of other issues。 I didn’t really know what kind of book I would be getting myself into, but I think I DNF - very slow pacing。 I thought the setting was interesting and unique but a lot of aspects of the story weren’t super enjoyable to me, mainly how the MC is trying to emulate the stigmas of a “marsh girl” yet is also somehow extremely educated, speaks better English than the colored folk, and is considered a beauty by everyone。 I think a girl growing up on her own at age 6 would run into a lot of other issues。 I didn’t really know what kind of book I would be getting myself into, but I think I expected a lot more considering it has such high acclaim。 The love story aspect was sweet, but also kind of just fluff and not really substantive to me。 。。。more

This book had a lot of wonderful imagery and writing regarding the marsh, as well as some beautiful touching moments。 Overall though, the dialogue felt awkward and forced, the events and characters unrealistic, and had a fairly predictable plot。 It was fun to read, but not a favorite。

Kendra

Slow beginning but got better after first several chapters。 Has a strong female character。
