she’s an excellent writer by default Ordinarily， I don’t like short novels （or novellas） because I like to see the author flesh out the characters。 I’d rather， however， read a short novel by Susan May Warren than a full novel by a less accomplished author。 She’s simply “got the gift。”

Only You is the prequel of a new series of Deep Haven books and it's a sweet read。 This is the second Deep Haven book I've ever read but it felt like coming home。The book is written in such a way that you feel as though you know the characters without feeling overwhelmed with a lot of backstory。 Maybe it's because Seth was returning home and some of the novel is seen through his perspective， but it was easy to settle in and enjoy the unfolding of the story。 I loved Ree。 She saw herself as a cowa Only You is the prequel of a new series of Deep Haven books and it's a sweet read。 This is the second Deep Haven book I've ever read but it felt like coming home。The book is written in such a way that you feel as though you know the characters without feeling overwhelmed with a lot of backstory。 Maybe it's because Seth was returning home and some of the novel is seen through his perspective， but it was easy to settle in and enjoy the unfolding of the story。 I loved Ree。 She saw herself as a coward even as she did brave things like returning to a place where everyone knows every secret desire of your heart。 She was the perfect foil to Seth who still had to learn that sometimes going home is the right thing to do。On the surface， Seth appeared to be the brave hero who had nothing to fear。 He was willing to jump into dangerous situations and risk his life to help someone so at first you don't realize that he and Ree have the same fears。。。fear of being rejected and of not being good enough。 Oh， but aren't we all， to some extent， able to relate to that fear？I wish this book had been longer， I really do， because I would have wanted to have a deeper exploration of the themes that were hinted at。 "If you risk nothing， you gain nothing" and it's possible to face our fears because of the spirit of power we received from God。 。。。more
