Summary

Billie is looking forward to a quiet, man-free Christmas。 It’s just a shame her family doesn't feel the same way…

With a house full of unexpected (and unwanted) guests, Billie needs to find the perfect escape to get away from the chaos。

So when her dating app recommends a week of singles nights in her area, Billie decides that braving these events has to be better than making conversation with her dad’s new wife, dealing with her mum's mid-life crisis or witnessing her sister flirting with her insufferably arrogant next-door neighbour。

While this is definitely not the festive season she had planned, between disco bowling and boozy bingo, little does Billie know that she may find love this year after all - she'll just have to date and see。。。

Fall in love with the perfect laugh-out-loud festive read from top 10 bestseller Portia MacIntosh。

I loved this story。 It is so full of wit and humour and the central character of Billie is thoroughly likeable。 I enjoyed the tension between Billie's ideal quiet Christmas and the Christmas she actually ended up with。 Her family are hilarious, in fact all the characters add to the humour。 Billie's one liners are genuinely funny。 Billie decides to disappear from her house for some evenings by filling her nights with trips out with the Jingle All the Way dating app。 Of course, this is a great ve I loved this story。 It is so full of wit and humour and the central character of Billie is thoroughly likeable。 I enjoyed the tension between Billie's ideal quiet Christmas and the Christmas she actually ended up with。 Her family are hilarious, in fact all the characters add to the humour。 Billie's one liners are genuinely funny。 Billie decides to disappear from her house for some evenings by filling her nights with trips out with the Jingle All the Way dating app。 Of course, this is a great vehicle for more humour but also for some budding romance。 I was surprised by one of the revelations near the end。 I certainly had not guessed what was coming。 With some lovely festive touches and some hilarious interactions, this is a great Christmas read。In short: festive fun and gamesThanks to the publisher for a copy of the book 。。。more

While I didn’t love this as much as the other book I read by this author, it definitely had a cute story that I enjoyed! I love how Billie’s quiet Christmas kept getting louder and louder as more and more people showed up as unexpected, and even uninvited house guests。 Her family was fun, they each had personalities that made for some different drama to add to the whole craziness of the holidays。 Her ex was a piece of work that in the end while he redeemed himself a bit, still that was crazy!I w While I didn’t love this as much as the other book I read by this author, it definitely had a cute story that I enjoyed! I enjoyed the characters in this book but I wasn’t overly invested in them。 Some of the miscommunications were a bit far fetched in my opinion。 Like when Billie couldn’t see Leila liked Rocco and thought the Lelia didn’t like her over a bowling ball to the foot?!I really disliked the fact that the last two chapters contained a miscommunication/argument, then everyone involved explained what they had misunderstood。 Then it was the epilogue which takes place a year later。 I would have liked at least one chapter of normal life after the argument before it went to the epilogue。 Overall it was a good book and a nice Christmas read without being overly Christmassy。 Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an ARC of this book。 。。。more

Just Date and See by Portia McIntosh⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Portia’s writing expertly strikes a brilliant balance of cheeky, comical, cute and charismatic every 👏🏻 dang 👏🏻 time 👏🏻 。 After a year of dedication and hard work renovating her beautiful new home, Billie yearns for a quiet Christmas enjoying the immaculate space of her creation (read: blood, sweat, manual labour and tears) — surrounded by decorations, decisions and schedules that are blissfully and decidedly 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔。However, like teetering dominos, Billi Just Date and See by Portia McIntosh⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Portia’s writing expertly strikes a brilliant balance of cheeky, comical, cute and charismatic every 👏🏻 dang 👏🏻 time 👏🏻 。 After a year of dedication and hard work renovating her beautiful new home, Billie yearns for a quiet Christmas enjoying the immaculate space of her creation (read: blood, sweat, manual labour and tears) — surrounded by decorations, decisions and schedules that are blissfully and decidedly 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔。However, like teetering dominos, Billie suddenly watches her entire family, one by one, descend on her elegant place — including her free-spirited and spoiled younger sister, long-divorced parents, father’s new wife and nosey neighbour — kicking off their boots and adorning her house with their own decorations as they settle in for the season。 When her calm holiday plans quickly deteriorate to cacophonous chaos, Billie finds herself desperate for some time away from her haven-turned-hectic and impulsively accepts an invitation from her dating app to participate in a week of singles’ nights。The singles events are hilarious and provide engaging and enjoyable scenarios in the midst of which Billie is forced to explore her healing heart, vulnerability, step out of her comfort zone and face her trust issues。In addition to Portia’s writing style of which I am an enormous fan, I adored the setting, eclectic characters, dynamic personalities, unique plot and immensely lovable main character。Caretaker of the family, Billie is charmingly self-depreciating, mature, loving, compassionate, self aware, relatable and fantastically funny。 You will whole-heartedly root for her and deserved her happily ever after。Like a perfectly wrapped present, Portia pulls together hilarious banter, endearing familial dynamics, relatable dating struggles and the pursuit of true love, tying it up with a beautiful ribbon of personal exploration and growth。 Packed with personality, this novel is an easy recommendation for anyone in the mood for a little bit of sweetness, silliness, levity and lighthearted soul searching this holiday season。Special thanks to Netgalley, Portia and Boldwood Books for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review! 。。。more

I was drawn by this story as soon as I read it was a funny, Christmassy story about Billie trying to get through the holidays with her eccentric family。 I thought this was so funny, so many, many times I laughed out loud at work and had to look around to see if anyone noticed。The chemistry Billie has with Rocco is so good, flirty, fun, so witty。 I love a good slow burn and this definitely fits the bill, it’s just the perfect Christmas/seasonal romance to get you in the Christmas mood。The writing I was drawn by this story as soon as I read it was a funny, Christmassy story about Billie trying to get through the holidays with her eccentric family。 I thought this was so funny, so many, many times I laughed out loud at work and had to look around to see if anyone noticed。The chemistry Billie has with Rocco is so good, flirty, fun, so witty。 I love a good slow burn and this definitely fits the bill, it’s just the perfect Christmas/seasonal romance to get you in the Christmas mood。The writing is wonderful, Portis manages to expertly show and describe the tension, emotion that Billie experiences, she’s such a brilliant author for keeping you interested as well as intrigued。Overall, this is a cute and fun Christmas read, with a twist I didn’t even see coming at the end , but you’ll have to read it to find out。 Which I can really recommend that you should。Thanks to Netgalley, Boldwood Books and Rachel’s Random Resources for a free copy in exchange for an honest opinion。 All opinions are my own and freely given。 。。。more

I can always count on Portia's books to make me smile and feel good。 This one even though set around Christmas, it wasn't overpowering so you can read it at other times of the year。I really enjoyed this book, I liked Katie and her family from the get go。 Now I will say I would have liked more background into certain issues that was going on only because I didn't find myself disliking any characters when maybe I should have 🤷😂I wasn't sure where this was going for the majority of it, I thought we I can always count on Portia's books to make me smile and feel good。 This one even though set around Christmas, it wasn't overpowering so you can read it at other times of the year。I really enjoyed this book, I liked Katie and her family from the get go。 Now I will say I would have liked more background into certain issues that was going on only because I didn't find myself disliking any characters when maybe I should have 🤷😂I wasn't sure where this was going for the majority of it, I thought we were going in a completely different direction at one point 😂 But it all came together perfectly in the end。It was just a really easy, cosy read that is perfect when snuggling up especially in the colder months。 A proper feel good book! 。。。more

And Just Date and See is the perfect romance caper。 In the beginning, Billie wants nothing more than to have a stress-free, drama-free Christmas。 But plans quickly change, all against her original wishes。 I could totally relate to the way she feels, having had my own last-minute changes to my own holiday plans, where a quiet night at home turns into so much more than I bargained for。 Yet, there is often so much more to learn from that kind of experience, and the same can be said for Billie and what is thrown her way。 I’d say that you can’t make this stuff up, but obviously you can, and it was brilliant!Billie’s unexpectedly full house prompts her to find a way to escape it–leading her to dating events that really push her outside of her comfort zone。 MacIntosh has a knack for creating characters who are often pushed beyond their limits, and Billie’s experiences didn’t disappoint。 The majority of them lead her to some wacky and insane scenarios, one of my favorites being the restaurant scene where she moves back and forth from one table of guests to another, with neither table knowing about the other table。 It felt very Mrs。 Doubtfire without the costume changes, but it was just as funny。By the time the holidays arrive, the reader hits the pinnacle of chaos and drama。 Billie gets a lot more than she bargained for with surprise guests and connective relationships that she never even knew could be possible。 I was just as flabbergasted as she was。 But maybe she can turn things around? You never know for sure which way it might go or what the ending might be, which made the experience even more fun。 With unique characters and even more unique situations, Just Date and See couldn’t have been a more enjoyable, fun experience。 A definite five-star read! 。。。more

I didn't really feel any sparks between them until much later and even then, some of their romantic "will they, won't they" moments were slightly underwhelming。 Almost as if they went from 0 attraction to very strong feelings with little build-up? It was a cute story, but I think maybe if the relationship was given a little more substance/time or sweet moments, rather than a ton of inner dialogue, I probably would've felt a lot more excitement over their relationship and rooting for them sooner。 。。。more

Thank you NetGalley, Portia MacIntosh and Boldwood Books for the ARC of Just date and See。 This is my personal review。This was a book that was a middle of the road book for me。 It wasn’t much of anything。 I was expecting laugh out loud romance but only got a little chuckle a few times。 The romance was dull and not very much of it in the story。 I read this book and I did like the holiday theme but other than that is kept me busy for a few hours。

Madeleine

Sadly this book was not for me。 It barely felt like a romance。 We only met the love interest after chapter 10, and even after that I didn’t feel any tension or excitement。 There were too many side characters/family members, and they seemed so immature the whole way through。 There were some funny moments, but they were overshadowed by the rest for me。Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review。

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC of "Just Date & See" written by Portia MacIntosh。 It is scheduled to release on September 19th, 2022!Overall, I rated this novel a 4/5 stars! The book focuses on Billie, who goes on a week's worth of singles' dates in her area, based on what her dating app recommends to her。 Despite trying to friend-zone Rocco, the two of them really hit it off。 The story is filled wth humorous scenes - this is my second novel that I've read by this author, an Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC of "Just Date & See" written by Portia MacIntosh。 It is scheduled to release on September 19th, 2022!Overall, I rated this novel a 4/5 stars! The book focuses on Billie, who goes on a week's worth of singles' dates in her area, based on what her dating app recommends to her。 Despite trying to friend-zone Rocco, the two of them really hit it off。 The story is filled wth humorous scenes - this is my second novel that I've read by this author, and she really knows how to add comedic elements to her writing。 She also is great at developing a character's personality as the novel goes on。 。。。more

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review。In my opinion, this book wasn't completely a romance。 Billie spent as much time with her family as with her love interest。Billie also kind of annoyed me because she was way too nice about everything, like girl please learn how to say no。 And what was the point of Declan, except annoying me more。 At the last chapters everything was confusing, I was very lost。 But the middle was cute, I liked all of the dates and Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review。In my opinion, this book wasn't completely a romance。 Billie spent as much time with her family as with her love interest。Billie also kind of annoyed me because she was way too nice about everything, like girl please learn how to say no。 And what was the point of Declan, except annoying me more。 At the last chapters everything was confusing, I was very lost。 But the middle was cute, I liked all of the dates and those cute moments between Billie and Rocco。 It definitely wasn’t for me but some people could like it。 。。。more

I’ve really been loving all of the Portia Macintosh novels I’ve been reading recently - sweet and swoony (aka clean romance), with strong female leads and very sweet and lovable male leads。 Where do I find myself one of her fictional men in real life?!Just Date and See is yet another very special book that I adored and definitely recommend everyone picks up - a great holiday (Christmas) read that doesn’t focus so much on the holiday itself, but rather on unexpected family gathering and unintende I’ve really been loving all of the Portia Macintosh novels I’ve been reading recently - sweet and swoony (aka clean romance), with strong female leads and very sweet and lovable male leads。 Where do I find myself one of her fictional men in real life?!Just Date and See is yet another very special book that I adored and definitely recommend everyone picks up - a great holiday (Christmas) read that doesn’t focus so much on the holiday itself, but rather on unexpected family gathering and unintended new friendships formed, leading to a very mixed up relationship coming out of nowhere!(Crazy thing is, it was not the only book I read this week with a similar familial tie!)This is really a bit over a 4⭐️ and has the potential to be more… but would need to be longer, throw in some steam and some more angst/conflict and resolution and then it would be a full-fledged 5 in my opinion - but it’s darn near close to earning that bump-up! I received an advance copy from NetGalley and Boldwood Books, and this is my honest feedback。 。。。more
