The #1 New York Times bestselling author presents a gripping new thriller that pits homicide detective Eve Dallas against a conspiracy of exploitation and evil…

New York, 2061: The place called the Pleasure Academy is a living nightmare where abducted girls are trapped, trained for a life of abject service while their souls are slowly but surely destroyed。 Dorian, a thirteen-year-old runaway who’d been imprisoned there, might never have made it out if not for her fellow inmate Mina, who’d hatched the escape plan。 Mina was the more daring of the two—but they’d been equally desperate。

Unfortunately, they didn’t get away fast enough。 Now Dorian is injured, terrified, and wandering the streets of New York, and Mina lies dead near the waterfront while Lt。 Eve Dallas looks over the scene。

Mina’s expensive, elegant clothes and beauty products convince Dallas that she was being groomed, literally and figuratively, for sex trafficking—and that whoever is investing in this high-overhead operation expects windfall profits。 Her billionaire husband, Roarke, may be able to help, considering his ties to the city’s ultra-rich。 But Roarke is also worried about the effect this case is having on Dallas, as it brings a rage to the surface she can barely control。 No matter what, she must keep her head clear--because above all, she is desperate for justice and to take down those who prey on and torment the innocent。

I firmly believe that J。D。 Robb can do no wrong。。 I've read all her 'In Death' books。 I found myself reading faster in different sections。 I was glad to see Mavis in the storyline。 I firmly recommend this book。I gave this a fair and honest review。 This book was given to me by Netgalley。 I firmly believe that J。D。 Robb can do no wrong。。 I've read all her 'In Death' books。 I found myself reading faster in different sections。 I was glad to see Mavis in the storyline。 I firmly recommend this book。I gave this a fair and honest review。 This book was given to me by Netgalley。 。。。more

Robb does not disappoint。 The cast of characters with the central theme is still presen。 Whilst drawing in peripheral characters for more story presence that you hope will reappear in future books。 Her imagination of diabolical crimes against humanity knows no boundaries and the revulsion you feel for the perpetrators will be real。 A page Turner as usual。

A standout character that gets under your skin is the basis for an excellent long running police procedure series。Eve Dallas is a cop before anything else。 It is her whole life。 It is who she had to become after an horrific childhood。 She has let Roarke into this life。 A loner like herself until they recognised their sole mate。 Set in the future with high tech helping in the investigation of a child trafficking ring。 This will become very personal for Eve。This is a long running series that keeps A standout character that gets under your skin is the basis for an excellent long running police procedure series。Eve Dallas is a cop before anything else。 It is her whole life。 It is who she had to become after an horrific childhood。 She has let Roarke into this life。 A loner like herself until they recognised their sole mate。 Set in the future with high tech helping in the investigation of a child trafficking ring。 This will become very personal for Eve。This is a long running series that keeps to such a high bar。 Every story can be read as a stand alone and you can join the party at any point。 I received a free copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

ARC copy from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review。 Desperation in Death is the 55th book in the "in death" series by JD Robb。 This story follows Eve as she searches for the killer of a murdered teenage girl, while desperately searching for another missing teen (Dorian) before she suffers the same fate as the first。 Eve must untangle the lies and uncover the truth。 The case gets bigger and darker as time goes on。 There are more victims both dead and alive than when Eve and the team receive ARC copy from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review。 Desperation in Death is the 55th book in the "in death" series by JD Robb。 This story follows Eve as she searches for the killer of a murdered teenage girl, while desperately searching for another missing teen (Dorian) before she suffers the same fate as the first。 Eve must untangle the lies and uncover the truth。 The case gets bigger and darker as time goes on。 There are more victims both dead and alive than when Eve and the team received the case。 I enjoyed reading Desperation in Death and I thought it was well written, it had a very good plot, as well as it held my attention from the first page to the very ending。 There were some parts that did feel like it was a bit slower, and with the story moving a bit slow as well。 There were a lot of characters making appearances throughout the book, JD Robb does a great job of keeping track of the characters, their characteristics, and continuity throughout。 At the end Eve solves the case, the murdered girl and her family gets justice, and Dorian gets her own justice and better ending then beginning。 。。。more

Robb has done it again with her newest installment in the In Death series。 Honestly, this is number 55 and everyone is still as heart-bounding and exciting as the last! Eve and friends are back again。 This time, they're investigating the death of a young girl, found dead impaled with a wooden stake。 Soon, they realize that the girl was part of a ring of young girls who were being raised for a super high end sex trade。 Everyone is all in on bringing down this entire operation。 Robb has done it again with her newest installment in the In Death series。 Honestly, this is number 55 and everyone is still as heart-bounding and exciting as the last! Like the last couple of In Death titles, the villains are revealed to the reader before the end of the book, and the focus is more on Dallas, Roark, their relationships with the people around them, and the detective work involved in solving the case so they know who the villain is。 But I still enjoy reading these books and hope they continue for some time to come。

In the latest installment of the In Death series, a dead teenager leads Eve Dallas and her friends into the sex trafficking world。 Given Eve’s past, this case is especially traumatic。Robb details the abuse that the girls experience from the very beginning, so when one of them turns up dead, I feel like readers can connect more with the victim。 I think this may disturb some readers due to the subject matter, but the details are glossed over。 But I did just want to give a warming just to be safe。H In the latest installment of the In Death series, a dead teenager leads Eve Dallas and her friends into the sex trafficking world。 Given Eve’s past, this case is especially traumatic。Robb details the abuse that the girls experience from the very beginning, so when one of them turns up dead, I feel like readers can connect more with the victim。 I think this may disturb some readers due to the subject matter, but the details are glossed over。 But I did just want to give a warming just to be safe。Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of this concept, so this book isn’t my favorite of the series。 However, I do think that Robb did a good job of bringing Eve’s past and her experiences into it as well。 Of course, the story is written well and in an interesting way where we know who the bad guys are, but we don’t know everything about them。 As the story unfolds, more truths are revealed。 DESPERATION IN DEATH is definitely one of the darker books in the series。 But if you like a thrilling mystery and lots of twists and turns, then you don’t want to miss out on this one! 。。。more

Another case that hits close to home, as Lt。 Eve Dallas finds herself investigating the death of a girl who was caught up in a sex trafficking ring in 2061。 (Sex work is legal now, but some people find the regulations cut into their profits too far。 And exploiting children is always wrong。)As well-written and compelling as always。
