Summary

A runaway princess wanted for murder。
A deadly huntsman who’s after her heart…

Half-fae Astrid Snow is used to being disliked。 With magic that makes her mirror back one’s worst qualities, she has more enemies than friends。 And when she’s accused of poisoning her father, her stepmother—the formidable Spring Queen—becomes her greatest enemy yet。 Forced into hiding, she finds solace at the Seven Sins Hotel。 It provides the perfect subterfuge she needs。 For who could ever find an outlaw in a hotel famed for sin?

Bear shifter Torben Davenport lost everything to the gambling halls。 To pay off his debts, he serves the fae royals as their personal Huntsman, locating hard-to-find fugitives with his scent-based magic。 When the Spring Queen offers him a bargain that will erase his debts for good, he’s willing to do what it takes—even if it means finding the queen’s runaway stepdaughter and cutting out her heart。

Astrid won’t go down without a fight, even if her assailant is a strikingly handsome Huntsman。 If she can evade the bear-shifter’s claws, maybe she can make him an ally。 It’s easier said than done, especially after she accidentally gets herself handcuffed to her infuriating captor。

Can Astrid cut through Torben’s icy demeanor and convince him to help her find the real killer? Or will she lose her heart in more ways than one?

ACOTAR meets Kingdom of the Wicked in this standalone fairytale retelling of Snow White。 If you like brooding heroes, just one bed, and grumpy sunshine romances, then you’ll love this swoon-worthy story in the Entangled with Fae series。

*NOTE this book is upper YA/NA featuring mature situations, moderate violence and gore, and some adult language。 The romance is slow burn but leads to moderate steam。

A Taste of Poison is a complete stand-alone novel set in the same world as The Fair Isle Trilogy。 Journey back to Faerwyvae or begin your adventure for the first time with this enchanting tale。 Each book in the Entangled with Fae series can be read on its own and in any order。 Happily ever after guaranteed!

I would like to start by saying thanks to the author for sending me an ARC of this novel。I did for the most part enjoy this book。 I really enjoyed that this is retelling of Snow White while having it's own original flair。I will admit that I was rather confused at first by the way that the main character Astrid's magic worked, but towards the end I felt as though I had a good grasp on her powers and how she could manipulate them。The romance was cute for me, I really enjoyed Torben as a love inter I would like to start by saying thanks to the author for sending me an ARC of this novel。I did for the most part enjoy this book。 I really enjoyed that this is retelling of Snow White while having it's own original flair。I will admit that I was rather confused at first by the way that the main character Astrid's magic worked, but towards the end I felt as though I had a good grasp on her powers and how she could manipulate them。The romance was cute for me, I really enjoyed Torben as a love interest and I liked watching his feelings for Astrid grow and evolve。 It was nice that there was a little spicy scene as well。 I wasn't the entirely impressed with the quick conclusion of the novel。 I felt as though the resolution was too quick and impractical especially given the turn around that the step mother has to make in order。All in all this was an enjoyable book and I appreciate as I frequently do with Tessonja Odette's stories the originality that they have。3。5/5 Stars 。。。more

There is a reason Tessonja Odette quickly became one of my favorite authors and an auto-buy author for me, and that reason is her retellings are brilliant。 The way she writes her characters, the imagery she portrays, the personalities that come through the pages and the overall enjoyment of her stories will make you want to purchase all of her back list as soon as you read one of her books。With all that being said, this book was fantastic。 You will enjoy the creative magic system, the characters There is a reason Tessonja Odette quickly became one of my favorite authors and an auto-buy author for me, and that reason is her retellings are brilliant。 The way she writes her characters, the imagery she portrays, the personalities that come through the pages and the overall enjoyment of her stories will make you want to purchase all of her back list as soon as you read one of her books。With all that being said, this book was fantastic。 You will enjoy the creative magic system, the characters and their relationships with each other, and the unique twists she puts into these retellings。 。。。more

I've really enjoyed Odette's Entangled with Fae series, and "A Taste of Poison" did not disappoint! I will say, though, that it did take me longer to get into this story than others in the series, and it felt kinda long-winded at times (because I prefer less rumination in my reading than is done here)。 However the story's as brilliantly twisted as can be hoped for, as well as lovely and sexy and human and accepting all in one great fairy tale retelling!!I was fortunate enough to receive this boo I've really enjoyed Odette's Entangled with Fae series, and "A Taste of Poison" did not disappoint! I LOVE Tessonja Odette’s style of writing。 Really brings the rich, lush worlds of Faerwyvae to life。 It’s worth the read for the fantastical world alone, but the plot was enjoyable, too。 This tale was a very different take on Snow White and it was fascinating。 When I started reading I had actually forgotten it was very loosely based on a traditional fairytale (she has several books in this fairytale retelling series, I recommend them all, in any order as they are all standalone)。 It has the key I LOVE Tessonja Odette’s style of writing。 Really brings the rich, lush worlds of Faerwyvae to life。 It’s worth the read for the fantastical world alone, but the plot was enjoyable, too。 This tale was a very different take on Snow White and it was fascinating。 When I started reading I had actually forgotten it was very loosely based on a traditional fairytale (she has several books in this fairytale retelling series, I recommend them all, in any order as they are all standalone)。 It has the key Snow White elements, princess, stepmother queen, mirror, Huntsman, poison, but oh, so much more! There is a slow building romance with some midrange steam and a surface depiction of addiction (gambling and chemical dependency), topics I thought were treated very respectfully。 It wouldn’t be a tale of fae without trickery, bargains, and twists, so plenty of those in there。 There are some ancillary characters I would have loved to see fleshed out a bit more, but the book would have doubled in size。 She did a good job adding dimension to the main characters。 The pacing was slow in the beginning and then picked up to rush a bit through the end。 I did appreciate the theme that family is who you make it, who is there for you and loves you, not solely those with whom you share your bloodline。 。。。more

Before i continu praising this book 😆😆 let me tell you real quick why it's not a 5🌟!! My only critic would be that the beginning of the story was a little slow。  Even though, the world building is fantastic, it took some time to settle and to dive into action。  But after the couple first chapter, the plot was going full ont and there was action at every turning page。  This book is FULL of twists and turns that i didn't see coming。  Most chapter ends on a little cliffhanger and its just want you to read more。 Now, let's continu with my love of this book!!Tessonja has an amazing writing。  The story flows well and it's not over complicated。  The world building is intricate and feels almost like a movie。 What makes it more amazing is the little details around the thematic of each court。 It is just "chef kiss"!!Most of the action take place in IRRIDAE, main town of the FIRE court 😆 There, we are introduce to 2 departements of the Seven Sins Hotel。  Departement LUST is manage by Madame DESIRE and  departement WARTH is manage by Madame FURY。😃😃 Tessonja is my new master of characters 😄 With this story she has created fictional characters that feel so so real。  They are complex, full of personnality and are relatable in so many ways。  Her characters deal with important stuff that anyone can deal with in real life。For exemple, Astrid Snow deals with addiction and The hunstman deals with gambling problem。 All those harder subject are delt with in a beautiful but impactfull way。Astrid Snow is our badass female that will not take no for an answer!! She has the biggest character growth and it was heartbreaking to take this ride with her。  You just feel what she feels。  The Hunstman is our grumpy character with a big heart。  I just wanted to hug him 😆😆The villains in this story are also really well done!! You just love to hate them !!! The romance is believable, full of open discussion。  Their is ups and downs like in every relationship!! It's a really nice enemis-to-lovers romance!!All in all, it's a story of discovery and growth。  It's a story about the duality found in each human being。  The constant battle between what you let people see and who you really are。 。。。more

This is a Snow White retelling set in Tessonja Odette’s creative fae world。 The main character representing Snow White is named Astrid, who is on the run after her stepmother suspects her of murder。 She is cursed with magic that makes it so no one sees the real her。 There is a grumpy/sunshine dynamic and some dark themes that were handled with grace。 This book just didn’t resonate with me like the others of the Entangled with Fae series, but it is still a solid four star read。 I received an ARC This is a Snow White retelling set in Tessonja Odette’s creative fae world。 The main character representing Snow White is named Astrid, who is on the run after her stepmother suspects her of murder。 She is cursed with magic that makes it so no one sees the real her。 There is a grumpy/sunshine dynamic and some dark themes that were handled with grace。 This book just didn’t resonate with me like the others of the Entangled with Fae series, but it is still a solid four star read。 I received an ARC copy of this novel and all opinions are my own。 。。。more

I say this with every one of the books in the Entangled with Fae series, but I'm absolutely in love with the way the author weaves in such original ideas in her retellings that really enhance what the original story line was。 It's just awesome on so many levels。I was really surprised at the darker themes present in this。 I always associate the character of Snow White as being quite innocent; frolicking in the woods and singing with animals。 So I was actually really excited to see Tessonja's Snow I say this with every one of the books in the Entangled with Fae series, but I'm absolutely in love with the way the author weaves in such original ideas in her retellings that really enhance what the original story line was。 It's just awesome on so many levels。I was really surprised at the darker themes present in this。 I always associate the character of Snow White as being quite innocent; frolicking in the woods and singing with animals。 So I was actually really excited to see Tessonja's Snow aka Astrid as a drug addict working at a brothel in the Seven Sins Hotel who gets accused of murder。 I think going this route really made this retelling stand out。 And the magic in this is really cool。 I've never read anything like it。 It took me a bit to fully understand it because it is quite unique but so fitting to the story。 The characters are fine。 I appreciated the way they both needed to overcome past traumas and did so together。 I admit I enjoyed Torben a little more than Astrid。 I really enjoyed the way he was so supportive and basically her backbone。 He believed in her and helped her work through her addiction while battling his own demons。 I wish we would have seen his bear form more though。 Astrid on the other hand irked me for a decent bit of the novel。 I just felt her stubbornness was a little out of hand。 I know a lot of that was when she was struggling to overcome her addiction, and for that I will say that the author wrote Astrid's withdrawal in a very realistic way。 My problem comes from the fact that Astrid is so closed off that it takes damn near 70% of the book for her to finally let things sink in, and she needs to witness something really emotionally jarring to get there when Torben has been telling her the same thing from the beginning。 I also wasn't as into the romance in this one as I'd hoped。 I'm really glad there is a dual pov in this, because I really didn't belive the chemistry between them from Astrid's pov。 It started as enemies-to-lovers, and then suddenly sex。 From Torben's pov, you get more of a slow-burn romance and really see how his feelings grow for Astrid throughout the book。 I found Astrid's feelings to be very sudden, and there's a scene that I think is really weird that sort of kicks starts it。 (view spoiler)[ When Astrid finally becomes sober from the poison, she wakes up in this almost euphoric state where everything that touches her skin just feels so good。 And she gets really sexually turned on by it and just has to have sex with Torben right away。 It was almost like she was on Ecstasy or something。 I thought it was completely out of left field。 I don't mind sex scenes in my books。 In fact I prefer it, but I just didn't feel good about this one。 And even later on in the novel, she becomes insatiable。 Just a totally different vibe from the other heroines in this series that I'm not sure I liked as much。 (hide spoiler)] I think I would have liked a little more buildup to it to really get a feel for their chemistry。 I definitely recommend giving this a shot if you enjoy retellings or anything involving the Fae。 This whole series is so well thought-out with their original magic systems and spunky heroines。 A Taste of Poison was no different。 It's a fun read。 。。。more

A Fae Snow White retelling from one of my favorite authors。 Half-fae Astrid Snow's magic isn't like most others, it acts as a mirror, showing you the best or worst traits you have about yourself, making no two people see Astrid the same way。 A trait that comes in handy when she's forced into hiding after being framed for her father's death。 Torben Davenport is trapped as the Huntsman, a fae-shifting bear with the ability to find anyone due to his scent-hunting magic, in order to repay his debts A Fae Snow White retelling from one of my favorite authors。 Half-fae Astrid Snow's magic isn't like most others, it acts as a mirror, showing you the best or worst traits you have about yourself, making no two people see Astrid the same way。 A trait that comes in handy when she's forced into hiding after being framed for her father's death。 Torben Davenport is trapped as the Huntsman, a fae-shifting bear with the ability to find anyone due to his scent-hunting magic, in order to repay his debts to the fae royals。 When he takes a job hunting the Spring Queen's step-daughter, he'll do whatever it takes to fulfill the bargains he made with her to regain his independence and his home。 As Astrid fights to clear her name and Torben fights for freedom, the two must find a way to work together or risk both of their lives。 Who knows, maybe if the two work together, they'll find more than they bargained for。 I absolutely adored getting to know Astrid and Torben。 And the cats, the soft lovable creatures。 There was a lot more steam in this book than we've seen in others, but it was tastefully done and not overdone in my opinion。 There were darker themes that I wasn't expecting, namely the Crimson Malus drug that Astrid is addicted to。 The way Tessonja approached the addiction and recovery process was delicately handled without undermining the whole thing and it was surprisingly easy to relate to。 I found Astrid really easy to relate to because I understand being closed off and having a hard time trusting and letting her guard down, I still don't know how to do that well。 Torben was the hero you always dream of, someone who can gain your trust and break those walls down gently, someone who can save you from yourself。 I also really enjoyed that the Queen had a story arc as well as the two main characters。 The only issue I had was small and at the beginning, with the (not so) veiled sexual innuendos**, it was constant and kind of annoyed me, which is not unusual for me, ask my significant other。 The world-building is spot on as always and the details really paint the world in your mind。 I can't wait to see what's in store next with Briony Rose。 I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review 。。。more

There is just something so wonderful about Tessonjas stories, they’re like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket, with the perfectly brewed cup of tea warming your heart。 This will be another story I will turn to when I need a comfort read that’s for sure。 Astrid Snow is our female protagonist, a half-fae/half human who feels she will never truly be seen by anyone due to her magic。 Her ability to mirror back peoples best or worst qualities so everyone (except her beloved father) sees a different version of her, with no one truly seeing her real face or personality makes it hard to get close to anyone。 Due to an incident in her past Astrid is addicted to a drug that helps calm her & numb her grief & pain, not realising its slowly destroying her, one made from a special Fae species of Apple。Torvin is The Huntsman, a full blooded Fae bounty hunter ( a bear shifter no less) bound in 100 years of servitude to the Alpha Council (the council made of the Kings & Queens of Faerwyvae) due to his past mistakes with gambling。 He has been tasked with finding Astrid & killing her in retribution for the death of her Father。 He has no choice but to fulfill his task, if he doesn’t it will claim his life。 The story was equal parts funny, sweet, endearing, heartbreaking & told the tale of loss, grief & addiction in such beautiful ways。 The world building continues to be wonderful with descriptions of the Fae courts that make you feel like you’re almost there, along with the addition of some fantastic new characters who I hope we see more of in the future。 Astrid and The Huntsman made such a great team once they started to listen to each other & put some faith in one another’s abilities。 The way the author wrote about addiction & withdrawal was raw but superbly written。 The plot twists were great, every time I thought I knew for sure who the real killer was the story went in a different direction until I felt dizzy lol! Astrid was a wonderful protagonist full of so much complexity, who wouldn’t be if no one could see your true face or really get to know you due to your magic? The Huntsman was a great balance to Astrid & once you get past the Grizzly Bear exterior, there was a teddy bear inside just waiting to come out。 Together they helped each other embrace & overcome emotional & physical obstacles that they were not quite ready to face on their own。 This was an excellent addition to the Entangled with Fae series & I cannot wait to read the next story! I also love the fact that we get an epilogue set a year later with each book so that you can see how our wonderful MCs are faring, & I love the cameos of other characters you grow to love from the previous books。 All in all, another book I can see myself reading over and over again quite happily。 Thank you to Tessonja for sent me a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, I can’t wait to get the stunning hardcover to add to my shelf! 。。。more

I truly loved this book! I was never a big fan of Snow White growing up, I just never got as attached as I had to Cinderella and beauty and the beast。 That being said, I’m in love & attached to Astrid Snow。 It took me a bit to get into the book, but I loved that it wasn’t predictable。 It had many fun, exciting elements, plot twists and adorable romance scenes。 I could feel the love warming my chest as it bloomed between the two characters。 Her brilliant imagery adds a new perspective and level t I truly loved this book! A Taste of Poison is a fun, action-packed read。 I liked the whodunit component which made it very different from the other books in the series。 There are some good messages in the book (dangers of addiction, letting people see the real you, not gambling more than you can afford to lose, how your beliefs about yourself influence your feeling toward another, handling grief)。 However, I could do without the cursing and sex scenes。 They're in every book, so I expected them。 I received an ARC from th A Taste of Poison is a fun, action-packed read。 I liked the whodunit component which made it very different from the other books in the series。 There are some good messages in the book (dangers of addiction, letting people see the real you, not gambling more than you can afford to lose, how your beliefs about yourself influence your feeling toward another, handling grief)。 However, I could do without the cursing and sex scenes。 They're in every book, so I expected them。 I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Tessonja Odette has created another beautiful masterpiece with A Taste of Poison, a Snow White Retelling with a fae twist。 Readers are back in Faerwyvae with a runaway princess accused of murder and the law hot on her tail。 It was glorious。 I love fairytales and the new and innovative Retelling that has been coming out and I can most definitely recognize the Snow White influences but with Tess's twist。 The princess, Astrid Snow, is a half-fae who's accused of murder by pie。 Who could ever think Tessonja Odette has created another beautiful masterpiece with A Taste of Poison, a Snow White Retelling with a fae twist。 Readers are back in Faerwyvae with a runaway princess accused of murder and the law hot on her tail。 It was glorious。 I love fairytales and the new and innovative Retelling that has been coming out and I can most definitely recognize the Snow White influences but with Tess's twist。 The princess, Astrid Snow, is a half-fae who's accused of murder by pie。 Who could ever think Astrid is a murderer? Astrid really is a sweet person who loves animals and likes to help people but she's very introverted due to her uncontrollable (and unique) power。 However, Astrid is also a mess, emotionally, she's doing her best to survive even if that means taking a deadly drug to cope with everything, A sweet poison, one guess what it's made from。As for the Huntsman, he's a bounty hunter with a gambling problem and has been tasked by the Spring Queen (who also happens to be Astrid's stepmother, Tris) to bring Astrid's heart。 The Huntsman is full fae and his Unseelie form is a bear and he is determined to sniff Astrid out。 He makes a deal (which you never do with a fae) and of course, things don't go as planned。 The man has a one-track mind, he needs to fulfill the deal to save his life because no one can ever break a fae deal at least not without consequences。 So I can see why the Huntsman was kinda grumpy for most of this book。Of course, the story was fascinating with lush descriptions (there was a beautiful resort that I know I would love), and wonderful characters。 The story had all the elements of the classic Snow White story but with tons of adventure and magic mixed in。 There were fight rings, ogres, mystery magic, complex backgrounds, mystery (kinda had a detective feel to the story, a whodunit) and plenty of plot twists。 There were a lot of raw emotions, sadness, anger, fear, and grief, but there was also, hope, joy, happiness, and love。 Astrid and the Huntsman manage to come together and conquer so many obstacles to get their HEA。 A Taste of Poison is another great addition to the Faerwyvae universe。 Once again Tess's story touched my heart, I absolutely loved everything。 Every book in this series is a Retelling with a focus on something special。 This book was a Snow White Retelling that was a love letter to animals。 Tessonja has already announced the next fairytale。 Looks like it's Sleeping Beauty's turn starring a character that we got a glimpse of in a previous story。 I can't wait。 。。。more

Tessonja does it again with another creative fairytale retelling。 This one is based on Snow White。 She flips snow from an innocent girl to a girl who is addicted to a drug that "balances her emotions"。 I haven't seen a story where the heroine deals with addiction。 The male lead is the one who shows her the way to sobriety and love of course! Liked the twist near the end。 It was very unexpected! The MC Astrid (Snow) of course loves small creatures and has a really interesting magic。 I think it mu Tessonja does it again with another creative fairytale retelling。 This one is based on Snow White。 She flips snow from an innocent girl to a girl who is addicted to a drug that "balances her emotions"。 I haven't seen a story where the heroine deals with addiction。 The male lead is the one who shows her the way to sobriety and love of course! *I received a ARC copy, and this is my honest review*As a classic Disney fan, this Snow White retelling really hit different。 I’ve been following Tessonja for some time now, and keep falling even more in love。 Her Entangled with Fae retellings are refreshing, witty, fun, and uniquely incorporates aspects of the original story。 It has love, friendship, a sunshine/grumpy dynamic, and MYSTERY。 I could not love it more。 The mystery keeps you on your toes。 Nothing is truly as it seems and Tessonjas s *I received a ARC copy, and this is my honest review*As a classic Disney fan, this Snow White retelling really hit different。 I’ve been following Tessonja for some time now, and keep falling even more in love。 Her Entangled with Fae retellings are refreshing, witty, fun, and uniquely incorporates aspects of the original story。 It has love, friendship, a sunshine/grumpy dynamic, and MYSTERY。 I could not love it more。 The mystery keeps you on your toes。 Nothing is truly as it seems and Tessonjas spin on the Disney classic was so much fun to read。。 I read it in 2 days! I couldn’t recommend it more。 You don’t have to read the series in sequence。 But it is nice to see how the characters surprise us here and there。 I truly loved it。 。。。more

How does she do it? How does she take a drug addiction, body dysphoria, low self esteem, murder and gambling problems and make it cute?I'll tell you how。Tessonja Odette uses dark magic, that's how。This was a gorgeous retelling, retwisting and reimagining of Snow White。 Only here Snow White is on the run because the Queen believes she killed her husband。Our FL is an adorable cinnamon roll and our ML is a fuzzy grumpy bear who I want to snuggle。I loved the few throwbacks to the previous books but How does she do it? This may be my favorite Entangled with Fae book yet (the other being Curse of the Wolf King)! With the twists of Snow White, this wasn’t quite what I expected from the book, but I was enthralled with it anyways。 I read the second half in one day。 I found the ending to be fairly predictable from about a third of the way through, but it didn’t take away from the enjoyable read。
