Summary

A Little Life follows four college classmates—broke, adrift, and buoyed only by their friendship and ambition—as they move to New York in search of fame and fortune。 While their relationships, which are tinged by addiction, success, and pride, deepen over the decades, the men are held together by their devotion to the brilliant, enigmatic Jude, a man scarred by an unspeakable childhood trauma。 A hymn to brotherly bonds and a masterful depiction of love in the twenty-first century, Hanya Yanagihara’s stunning novel is about the families we are born into, and those that we make for ourselves。

I love and hate this book so strongly at the same time。 If I’m being honest, the love outweighs the hate。 But it is challenging, frustrating, and angering (mostly at the author for coming up with this stuff, not so much the characters who I love), but also heartwarming, rewarding, and nourishing。 I’m reminded of both the darkness of life and also the overwhelming hope and light of life。 It was an experience to read this and one I will not soon forget。

This book was well written but very dark。 At on point I wanted to say "we get it, let's move on"。 This book was well written but very dark。 At on point I wanted to say "we get it, let's move on"。 。。。more

The story washes over you in waves。 Beautiful, heartbreaking, uplifting and ultimately heartbreaking again。 Well worth the tears and time。 I will be thinking about Jude and the boys for a while。

This book absolutely wrecked me。 Reading the back, you might think, oh ok, it’s a story about friends in NY just trying to make something of themselves。 Perhaps it’s a gritty version of the show Friends。 But it should really come with a warning that it will absolutely rip your heart out of your chest and obliterate you。 I have given myself a sinus headache from the amount of crying I’ve done in the last 100 pages。 Beautiful writing。 It’s a tome at 800+ pages but I couldn’t put it down。

consigliato se si vuole piangere come se fosse il diluvio universale。 Se potessi darei venti stelle。 e niente, sono senza parole Jude, WILLEM, Malcom, JB, gli anni felici, Lispenard street。。。

4。75I so loved the main characters and my heart broke and broke and broke and I just cried so much。 I can hardly form coherent thoughts about it。 Even though it was long, it never dragged, and it surprised me how deeply invested I became in the story。 If you decide to read this, please read the list of trigger warnings first。

Porzucam tę książkę bo zobaczyłam spojler :/ (może i dobrze bo utwierdził mnie w przekonaniu, że nie warto dalej czytać)。 Pewnie gdyby była dwa razy krótsza dałabym jej szansę。

Best book I have read in a long time。 Definitely one of the best books I've ever read。 Although unsettling at times, it's a real page turner。 A beautiful story of a difficult but beautiful life。 Best book I have read in a long time。 Definitely one of the best books I've ever read。 Although unsettling at times, it's a real page turner。 A beautiful story of a difficult but beautiful life。 。。。more

“And so I try to be kind to everything I see, and in everything I see, I see him。”The only thing this book gave me was trauma。 Would never recommend this for anyone who is mentally stable, and would heavily advise against it

almost irrationally sad? like i felt deeply protected over the protagonist and the pain they were going through actually made me angry at the author。 i guess that’s a testament to great writing。 (feel a bit weird about the sexuality exploitation from the author tho)

what a TOUGH read。 probably the toughest book/story I've ever read。 It pushes you and could make you feel uncomfortable。 definitely need some breaks in between bcs just how miserable it made me feel。 this book is written so painfully, so beautifully。 the beauty in its excessiveness, both the good and the bad。 truly love the characters warm words to each other, yet truly horrified by some actions and words by some other characters。in some ways, by this story, I could understand a part of how trau what a TOUGH read。 probably the toughest book/story I've ever read。 It pushes you and could make you feel uncomfortable。 definitely need some breaks in between bcs just how miserable it made me feel。 this book is written so painfully, so beautifully。 the beauty in its excessiveness, both the good and the bad。 truly love the characters warm words to each other, yet truly horrified by some actions and words by some other characters。in some ways, by this story, I could understand a part of how trauma effects one's view on life, on relationship。 including the mind of one's having to carry the burden of it。 definitely one of the most impressive book i've ever read。 。。。more

I really loved this book although at times it was hard to read。 The story line was so intense in parts, it made me feel uncomfortable but I still couldn’t put the book down。 I can’t remember the last book I read that stirred so many different emotions。 It’s definitely not a light read or even a feel good book but it’s so beautifully written and quite compelling。
