Really awesome scary thrilling short stories! I loved it!

Junji Ito’s newest short-story horror collection, The Liminal Zone, definitely had a different feel to it then his past horror collections。 While still terrifying and filled with his usual style of body horror, there was more of a psychological horror aspect that played into the real fear behind The Liminal Zone。 I think Ito once again did an amazing job depicting common fears, by exploring human psyches with a unique supernatural twist! One of the better collections to be released lately。 We’ve been getting multiple Junji Ito books a year for a bit now and some of them have been pretty weak on the story side。 His art is always breathtaking and horrifying, but it’s nice when it doesn’t just feel like I’m going through enjoying it for the images。 The final story, Slumber, was probably my favorite。

I never know where a Junji Ito story is going。They're all bonkers。 They have a logic to them, but that logic never seems to include explaining how or why things happen, you just have to go along with the journey。 And while they're all filled with horror, I find most of them more funny than frightening。If you enjoy psychological horror at its most basic, and you're not put off by horror that's more silly than scary, Junji Ito is THE writer I recommend。 I've tried some other manga horror writers, I never know where a Junji Ito story is going。They're all bonkers。 They have a logic to them, but that logic never seems to include explaining how or why things happen, you just have to go along with the journey。 And while they're all filled with horror, I find most of them more funny than frightening。If you enjoy psychological horror at its most basic, and you're not put off by horror that's more silly than scary, Junji Ito is THE writer I recommend。 I've tried some other manga horror writers, and will continue to do so, but so far none of them have even approached the quality of Ito's work。 。。。more

Woo! This was *great*! Another amazing collection of Junji Ito stories。 I really enjoyed all 4 stories。 Weeping Woman Way was probably my favorite just because I loved that concept the most。 The rest were all so good too! I found that once I started one of the stories I couldn't stop until the end。 Spirit Flow was the strangest story especially towards the end。 Slumber was a fast read and chilling。 Woo! It’s nice to see how his art has gotten so good。

this was just okay。 standard junji ito with super weird out there stories。 none of them were really scary but I admire the originality and the artwork is amazing。

All four stories were solid, but my favorite was probably The Spirit Flow of Aokigahara! So bizarre yet so interesting

Truthfully not my favorite of Junji Ito’s and was going to give it 3 stars… But the last story was fantastic and tipped it over to the 4 star!

I really enjoy how philosophical this set of short stories was。 It had the excellent art I have come to expect from Ito's work, but I really feel like this volume took a slightly more literary approach to storytelling than previous volumes。 I highly recommend this one, especially if you enjoy religious horror。 I really enjoy how philosophical this set of short stories was。 It had the excellent art I have come to expect from Ito's work, but I really feel like this volume took a slightly more literary approach to storytelling than previous volumes。 I highly recommend this one, especially if you enjoy religious horror。 。。。more

A very good collection by Junji Ito! I've been very critical lately in that I haven't thought Ito's more recent collections were all that good, and I haven't really loved anything since Remina came out, but this one felt like a proper return to form。Maybe not the scariest of his works (besides the last story!), but everything in here was very well written and flowed well。 Nothing confusing or abrupt here) an issue I had with Lovesickness, for example)。Definitely worth checking out! In the authors note at the end, Ito says he’s tired and running out of ideas。 He’s still one of my favorites, but that note really made sense after reading this。 It didn’t hit as hard as some of his earlier stuff。 I hope he can get back in his groove some day。

I love Junji Ito and will defend his work to death。 But this one was uncomfortable in a different way than usual。 The art is as horrifically wonderful as always, but the storytelling was a miss。 Unfortunately the stories just didn’t do it for me in this release。 My favorite feeling when reading Ito is being scared sh*tless to turn the next page and see whatever godforsaken splash panel is about to be seared into my memory。 No lasting emotional trauma this time around…

I was excited to receive this book today, so I immediately ripped it open to devour it。 Unfortunately, the first story was mediocre but I hung on to hope diving into the next one only to be disappointed by that one as well。 Something was missing, something absent that usually made Ito’s work incredible, but I just can’t put my finger on it。With a last ditch effort, I decided the finish the last couple stories only to be left feeling uncomfortable。 Not scared or unsettled, which is what I long fo I was excited to receive this book today, so I immediately ripped it open to devour it。 Unfortunately, the first story was mediocre but I hung on to hope diving into the next one only to be disappointed by that one as well。 Something was missing, something absent that usually made Ito’s work incredible, but I just can’t put my finger on it。With a last ditch effort, I decided the finish the last couple stories only to be left feeling uncomfortable。 Not scared or unsettled, which is what I long for when reading his content, but rather like the discomfort of seeing your favorite comedian bomb on stage。 The last story was probably the best, but that wasn’t saying much in contrast with the rest of the book。Perhaps I’m just getting burned out on the older Junji Ito content。 You can’t always hit it out of the park and even the best actors, comedians, heroes, etc bomb every now and then。 Junji Ito’s work still holds a fond place in my heart but this book isn’t the place to find his amazing content。 。。。more

The past few Junji Ito collections had kind of been a case of diminishing returns; most of his really big, famous stories were published in the first couple of collections and what was left for the more recent ones wasn't as good。 While this still isn't as good as his earlier material, it is at least much better than the previous couple。。 He's still the master of the turn-page-reveal。 The past few Junji Ito collections had kind of been a case of diminishing returns; most of his really big, famous stories were published in the first couple of collections and what was left for the more recent ones wasn't as good。 While this still isn't as good as his earlier material, it is at least much better than the previous couple。。 He's still the master of the turn-page-reveal。 。。。more

CW: blood, violence, suicide mentioned (not really on page), body horrorthe last one was my fave, slumber。 this collection features 4 works that Ito made during the first year of C19 lockdown in 2020。 the afterward about his experience writing them and having a bit more freedom with length due to their originally being released though the Line Manga App was neat! I learned a new thing about serialized manga, always fun。 not my all-time fave, but still a good addition to his collection of work。

Thank you NetGalley and Viz Media for an advanced digital copy of The Liminal Zone。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 If you’ve liked Junji Ito’s horror anthologies or one-offs in the past, you’ll definitely love this new installment。 I genuinely enjoyed each one, although Weeping Woman Way and Madonna are my favorite out of the 4。 As always the art is incredible and slightly disturbing, but if it isn’t slightly disturbing is it truly Junji Ito?I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who Thank you NetGalley and Viz Media for an advanced digital copy of The Liminal Zone。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 If you’ve liked Junji Ito’s horror anthologies or one-offs in the past, you’ll definitely love this new installment。 I genuinely enjoyed each one, although Weeping Woman Way and Madonna are my favorite out of the 4。 As always the art is incredible and slightly disturbing, but if it isn’t slightly disturbing is it truly Junji Ito?I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves horror or Junji Ito’s work in general。 。。。more

The first story is a little forgettable, but every story afterwards is great and freaky。

If you are already a fan of Junji Ito, you are going to enjoy this release and want it just for the presentation Viz has been killing on these Ito releases。That said, this to me was one of the weaker collections。 In the afterword, Ito says these came out of covid and were reworks of old ideas and storyboards he had kicking around, and it kind of shows IMO。 There is nothing really new or exciting here。 This contains four stories, and though readers' opinions will vary。 I think that weeping woman If you are already a fan of Junji Ito, you are going to enjoy this release and want it just for the presentation Viz has been killing on these Ito releases。That said, this to me was one of the weaker collections。 In the afterword, Ito says these came out of covid and were reworks of old ideas and storyboards he had kicking around, and it kind of shows IMO。 There is nothing really new or exciting here。 This contains four stories, and though readers' opinions will vary。 I think that weeping woman is a solid entry in his oeuvre, and the same could be said about Madonna (Madonna edges it out as my personal favorite)。 These are solid entries but they do not match up with the best Ito has written。"The Spirit Flow of Aokigahara" is one of my least favorite stories from Ito and "Slumber " has a neat concept but is not given enough time to develop into anything memorable。Again, existing fans should still be content to grab this and grow their collection。 However, this is one of the more underwhelming collections of short stories。 。。。more
