The newest math-focused picture book from the New York Times bestselling author Danica McKellar is full of puppy-fueled chaos and a message of gratitude, with a double helping of fun!

Moxie Jo always wanted MORE。 But soon, she'd get MORE than she bargained for!

Spunky and energetic, Moxie is just like any other girl--aside from the fact that she has to have the MOST of everything! If she doesn't have the most toys, the most A's on tests, or the most time on the swing, then she makes the MOST noise! So when Moxie finds a magic stick that can double anything, she doesn't hesitate to use it--but when the button gets stuck, she may start to realize that less really is more! Teach the power of doubling through this playful puppy romp!

It's a silly story that introduces a rather complex math concept。 It's a silly story that introduces a rather complex math concept。 。。。more

My daughter’s loved all of the fun and mischief in this story! My oldest immediately wanted to try the Math problems, in the back! It’s so cool to have such a great story, that incorporates Math。 I will definitely use this book, in my classroom!

Moxie always seems to want more, more, more, and be a bit competitive。 When she finds a magic stick that causes whatever she points it at and presses a button to double, she is quick to use it。 She has great fun doubling the flowers outside, and then, she has the brilliant idea to double the puppy, Max, she and her little brother, Clark, share so that they'll each have a dog of their own。 But the button gets stuck, and those puppies go from two to four to thousands quickly。 They're filling the h Moxie always seems to want more, more, more, and be a bit competitive。 When she finds a magic stick that causes whatever she points it at and presses a button to double, she is quick to use it。 She has great fun doubling the flowers outside, and then, she has the brilliant idea to double the puppy, Max, she and her little brother, Clark, share so that they'll each have a dog of their own。 But the button gets stuck, and those puppies go from two to four to thousands quickly。 They're filling the house, spilling into the yard, and wreaking havoc on Moxie's home。 Thank goodness Clark is able to stop the duplication, and things can go back to normal。 The story is told in rhyming lines, which I didn't particularly like, but the math portion is interesting, engaging, and accessible。 Two additional pages in the back matter use lemons to demonstrate just how quickly numbers can double, from one fruit to more than a billion over the course of a month。 The digital illustrations created with Procreate are a bit flat and monotonous, but that won't matter as young readers will be caught up in the ever-increasing number of yellow puppies filling the pages。 Clearly, this book would be useful in explaining the important math concepts of doubling and exponents。 。。。more

Actress Danica McKellar extends her record of creating fun math themed for children with Double Puppy Trouble。 Her main character Moxie Jo never seems to be satisfied with what she has so she is always asking for the most of everything。 She discovers a magic stick that allows her to double the number of things she has which gets out of control when she starts doubling the number of puppies she has。 The story is told in rhymed verse so it is very accessible for inviting readers to read along。 The Actress Danica McKellar extends her record of creating fun math themed for children with Double Puppy Trouble。 Her main character Moxie Jo never seems to be satisfied with what she has so she is always asking for the most of everything。 She discovers a magic stick that allows her to double the number of things she has which gets out of control when she starts doubling the number of puppies she has。 The story is told in rhymed verse so it is very accessible for inviting readers to read along。 The concept of how fast doubling things adds up is well illustrated in the story and discussed again with an added example using lemons at the end of the book。 Overall, the story is a good lesson in how sometimes less is more! Masse's bold illustrations humorously provide visual support to show the problems when doubling gets out of hand。 。。。more
