Summary

Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm。 In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks。 In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance。

Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead。

Sara Ewes, Devine’s coworker and former girlfriend, has been found hanging in a storage room of his office building—presumably a suicide, prompting the NYPD to come calling on him。 If that wasn’t enough, Devine receives another ominous visit, a confrontation that threatens to dredge up grim secrets from his past in the Army unless he participates in a clandestine investigation into his firm。

This treacherous role will take Travis from the impossibly glittering lives he once saw only through a train window, to the darkest corners of the country’s economic halls of power…where something rotten lurks。 And apart from this high-stakes conspiracy, there’s a killer out there with their own agenda, and Devine is the bullseye。

I became a fan of Baldacci after watching Absolute Power。 A thriller about the President with his story and Clint Eastwood。 He’s perfected his version of the thriller。 A little slow burn to start, action, subtle twists and misdirection to keep you guessing。 It centers around an ex-military man barely treading water on the outside。 There is so much going on here。 There is some things from his past resurfacing, financial crimes, murder and so much more all woven together in a seamless way。 Every t I became a fan of Baldacci after watching Absolute Power。 A thriller about the President with his story and Clint Eastwood。 He’s perfected his version of the thriller。 A little slow burn to start, action, subtle twists and misdirection to keep you guessing。 It centers around an ex-military man barely treading water on the outside。 There is so much going on here。 There is some things from his past resurfacing, financial crimes, murder and so much more all woven together in a seamless way。 Every time I thought I had it figured out, something shifted and alas I was wrong again。 It did get a little far-fetched at the end, but that did not make me regret reading the book or hoping this is the first in a new series。While narrated mostly by Zachary Webber, Christine Lakin and Mela Lee also bring the story to life。 I switched back forth between the print and audiobook and was totally engrossed in listening。 。。。more

If you are a David Baldacci fan, you are going to love this book。 It introduces us to a new character, so it is different that the books in a series。 The main character is ex-military, which can be a familiar character in Baldacci books。 I didn't trust this main character right away the way I tend to do in some of his books。 But I loved the premise and I was hooked。 I needed to know what happened, how it happened and who did it。 And like a lot of his books, he keeps you hooked and unknowing unti If you are a David Baldacci fan, you are going to love this book。 It introduces us to a new character, so it is different that the books in a series。 The main character is ex-military, which can be a familiar character in Baldacci books。 I didn't trust this main character right away the way I tend to do in some of his books。 But I loved the premise and I was hooked。 I needed to know what happened, how it happened and who did it。 And like a lot of his books, he keeps you hooked and unknowing until the end。 I didn't figure it out, which I prefer, because then it shows a well thought out plot development。 Thanks SO MUCH to Grand Central Publishers for a gifted copy in an ARC giveaway for this early edition of the book。 It comes out on July 12, 2022! 。。。more

Baldacci’s back to his best with the 6:20 Man。Ex soldier Travis is caught in a series of murders and seems to be the fall guy。As he investigates the murders he is approached by a shadowy government agency。Without spoiling things this book is a twisting road! Enjoy。

3。5 stars - rounded upIt's been a long time since I've read a David Baldacci book, and I'm kind of wondering why I've waited so long to pick another one of his books up。 I always loved his ability to take real people and entwine them into a suspenseful and thrilling storyline。 Travis is a complex character with a lot of emotional baggage weighing him down, yet he manages to be sympathetic and likable - a great character for future books, if Baldacci is interested in developing him further。 This 3。5 stars - rounded upIt's been a long time since I've read a David Baldacci book, and I'm kind of wondering why I've waited so long to pick another one of his books up。 I always loved his ability to take real people and entwine them into a suspenseful and thrilling storyline。 Travis is a complex character with a lot of emotional baggage weighing him down, yet he manages to be sympathetic and likable - a great character for future books, if Baldacci is interested in developing him further。 This book has a secondary cast of hodge-podge characters that are (mostly) all likeable and intriguing。 It's a suspenseful story without being too over the top, with enough twists and turns to grab your interest and keep you guessing, but not so complicated it can't be followed。 If this is your first Baldacci book, it's a great introduction to his writing。 And if you're already a fan, I don't think you'll be disappointed! Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

He got up very early every morning and was at the local high school working out by four before going to work。 He was in prime physical shape and had been well-trained as an army ranger, which came in handy several times。 He had three roommates, all of whom he liked and thought they were there by happenstance。 He was to learn later that might not be the case。 It was a complicated and compelling plot, typical of Baldacci。 I enjoyed it and really had no idea of the outcome before it happened。 I like that in a book。 There is so much more to the book than I can cover here。 I recommend you read or listen to it。The readers were Zachary Webber, Christine Lakin, and Mela Lee。 I thought Webber was terrific but I felt like the women readers made caricatures of most of the women。 It was thoughtfully read other than that and I enjoyed it。 I found it a compelling listen。I was invited to read a free audio version of The 6:20 Man by Hachette Audio, through Netgalley。 All thoughts and opinions are mine。 #netgalley #hachetteaudio #davidbaldacci #the620man 。。。more

Hard to get into, hard to relate to the protagonist initially, overly complicated, and too many coincidences。 It slowly lured me in but was hard to suspend belief。

If so, why? My ThoughtsThe 6:20 man is such a compelling read。 It is complex and twisty, following Travis through a labyrinth of corruption, secrets and lies happening right under his nose。 The wealthy that he’s always envied on his commute have something to hide and they’ll stop at nothing to keep their secrets but Travis has a secret, too and he’s just as motivated to keep it that way。 I must admit, I thought the setting might be a bit boring, I mean, finance? Blah! I usually enjoy reading this author, but this book did not grab me like his usually do。 There is a great deal of discussion about finance and money matters, topics that do not interest me, which is probably why I didn't care for this book。 It does have an interesting murder arc, and the writing is excellent。 Others may find it a good read。 Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for providing an ARC。 I usually enjoy reading this author, but this book did not grab me like his usually do。 There is a great deal of discussion about finance and money matters, topics that do not interest me, which is probably why I didn't care for this book。 It does have an interesting murder arc, and the writing is excellent。 Others may find it a good read。 Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for providing an ARC。 。。。more

David Baldacci’s latest thriller set for release on July 12, The 6:20 Man, is another fine offering from this master of the form。 The story, which derives its name from the time in the morning the main protagonist catches a train into the city, revolves around a former Army Ranger named Travis Devine who now works as a financial analyst for a top Wall Street powerhouse firm。 He hates his new job but soldiers on, pardon the pun, mostly as a self-inflicted punishment for an incident in his past。 W David Baldacci’s latest thriller set for release on July 12, The 6:20 Man, is another fine offering from this master of the form。 The story, which derives its name from the time in the morning the main protagonist catches a train into the city, revolves around a former Army Ranger named Travis Devine who now works as a financial analyst for a top Wall Street powerhouse firm。 He hates his new job but soldiers on, pardon the pun, mostly as a self-inflicted punishment for an incident in his past。 When a woman with whom he had a brief fling ends up dead by apparent suicide in the office, Travis is thrown headfirst into an investigation that will lead him into a shadowy world where nothing is as it seems。 The financial firm of Cowl and Comely is hiding a secret, and the woman who died might have been killed to protect it。 Apart from discovering why his ex-girlfriend died, Travis has a bigger interest in getting to the bottom of things。 All the evidence points to him as the murderer。The book starts fast and never lets up, with an impressive body count that makes you wonder if anyone in the book will survive。 The pace is breathless with action on almost every page。 The chapters are short and punchy which keeps the book moving along at a fine clip。 And above all, the twisty story keeps you turning the pages long into the night。If you’re already a Baldacci fan, this book certainly won’t disappoint, and if you haven’t read a David Baldacci thriller yet, this would be a good one to jump aboard with。 My only slight frustration was that while many of the threads are tied up neatly at the end of the book, there are some that the author leaves hanging。 The book is marketed as a standalone currently, although I have to wonder if this is the start of a new series featuring the Travis Devine character because that is how it feels。 I certainly hope that the threads left dangling are the start of an overarching narrative in the same way that Baldacci uses Mercy in the Atlee Pine series。 Either way, the book was a quick and satisfying read and contained all the hallmark Baldacci traits。 Fast action, memorable characters, and a tight plot。 **Review will be posted on Goodreads and TheFictionReview。com 30 days prior to the book's release date。 。。。more

Travis is visited by the NYPD and by someone threatening to expose secrets from his time in the Army that he would rather stay buried。 The resulting investigations take him from the mansions of the ultra wealthy to the seedier side of the financial world, Travis has to determine what is going on, and who is behind it, before he becomes yet another casualty。 This is a stand alone book by one of my favorite thriller authors, and wow, what a ride he takes his readers on! The action begins very early in the book, and it doesn’t let up until the final pages。 At first, I wasn’t sure I liked Travis, the main character, but he – and his predicament – grew on me as the story continued and I got to know more about him。 Then “all” I had to do was figure out the good guys vs。 the bad guys。 It wasn’t until near the end of the book that it finally started to become clear。 The identity of the guilty party was a total surprise, as was the motive。 I’m not at all familiar with high finance and investment companies that feature so prominently in this book, so a lot of the situations here were totally foreign to me, and it was certainly enlightening。 I liked some of the primary characters, was disgusted by others, and felt sorry for still others。 I wouldn’t mind seeing some of these characters again, but given how this story ends, I don’t see how it could be made into a series。 I will definitely look for the author’s next book, whether it be from one of his current series, or another standalone。Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book。 。。。more

I have to admit that while I'm a huge fan of a couple of Baldacci's series (Atlee Pine &  John Puller), I just couldn't get into the others。 My interest in this one is really geared by the idea of this protagonist's  9 to 5 grind, which basically is also my life (thanks, Financial lines!), until life threw a huge spanner in his way。 This made a great thrilling read (but I don't want that kind of spanner in my life, lol)。Travis Devine is an easily likeable character。 He's highly intelligent and a I have to admit that while I'm a huge fan of a couple of Baldacci's series (Atlee Pine &  John Puller), I just couldn't get into the others。 My interest in this one is really geared by the idea of this protagonist's  9 to 5 grind, which basically is also my life (thanks, Financial lines!), until life threw a huge spanner in his way。 This made a great thrilling read (but I don't want that kind of spanner in my life, lol)。Travis Devine is an easily likeable character。 He's highly intelligent and also physically capable man。 And he wants truth and justice to prevail but sometimes, that just doesn't happen in real life。 Due to a misstep, he is now punishing himself and redemption seems far away especially when the past came back to haunt him。 There is no choice for Devine now but to dive in and find the killers as well as deal with the underhanded world of Wall Street。 He is definitely a hit with me。 Baldacci definitely knows his craft and kept the pace tight yet the human interest of Devine and other characters were truly touching。 I don't think the whole mystery is quite wrapped up yet though I could be wrong but I think, I hope, that this is just a set up (a first book) for a series。 I'd love to see Travis Devine again and hopefully, see him more settled in his role。My thanks to Pan Macmillan Australia for this copy of book in exchange of my honest thoughts 。。。more

Always escape in to a David Baldacci book and this is no exception Well written and captivating as always。 Really hoping that the book is not a stand alone and a series is being developed for the main characters。 Don't want to give any spoilers but two misfits find each other by circumstances that spiral out of control。 Always escape in to a David Baldacci book and this is no exception Well written and captivating as always。 Really hoping that the book is not a stand alone and a series is being developed for the main characters。 Don't want to give any spoilers but two misfits find each other by circumstances that spiral out of control。 。。。more

A new character from David Baldacci, in the form of an ex army ranger… count me in。 This author has so many wonderful and diverse characters。 When the Atlee Pine series ended recently, I hope for a new series and it looks like we may get that with Travis Devine。 He is a big, strong and very bloody minded man that I wouldn’t want to get the wrong side of。 His experience in the army has made him wary and he sees everything。 I loved getting to know him in The 620 Man。Travis Devine has a routine now A new character from David Baldacci, in the form of an ex army ranger… count me in。 This author has so many wonderful and diverse characters。 When the Atlee Pine series ended recently, I hope for a new series and it looks like we may get that with Travis Devine。 He is a big, strong and very bloody minded man that I wouldn’t want to get the wrong side of。 His experience in the army has made him wary and he sees everything。 I loved getting to know him in The 620 Man。Travis Devine has a routine now that his army days are over。 He gets up at 4am daily to work out and then he catches the 620am train from his shared home in Mount Kisco to his job in Manhattan。 A far cry from the army, he is now working as a financial analyst for Cowl and Comley on WallStreet。 One morning he gets an anonymous email telling him that his co worker and ex lover, Sara Ewes was found dead on one of the upper floors of the building that they work。 At first it appears to be suicide but further investigation deems her death a homicide。 No Travis finds himself the prime suspect, and the target of a government body who want him to investigate the CEO Brad Cowl, in exchange for his army secrets staying that way。As always with Baldacci, it is a wild and fast paced thriller that will keep you guessing until the end。 It gets pretty dark in places。 The worlds of finance and politics collide in another fantastic read from this prolific author。 The 620 Man is published in Australia 28th June。 Thanks to Macmillan Australia for my advanced copy to read。 。。。more
