Summary

Coast Guard Flight Medic Brooke Kesler is ecstatic to watch her friend and mentee graduate from medic A-school, but her elation turns to anguish when men in ski masks open fire on the crowd。

CGIS Agent Noah Rowley is rocked to the core when he learns of a mass shooting raging on his Coast Guard base。 Still, the shock is nothing compared to the heart-wrenching fear when he learns the woman he loves is at the graduation。 Fortunately, his team rapidly ends the shooting melee, and Noah discovers Brooke is still alive。 Once assured she's okay, he quickly turns to learning who is behind the attack。

Little do Brooke and Noah know that the shooting is part of a master plot, and that Brooke has overheard something that holds the key to exposing the mastermind's identity。 Determined not to be caught, the cunning villain focuses on taking out Brooke and, if need be, those who would protect her。 With targets on their backs, Brooke and Noah must race to find the killer before he strikes again。

Bestselling author Dani Pettrey again delivers a fast-paced story in an acclaimed style readers have come to love: full of snappy dialogue, thrilling adventure romance, and unexpected plot twists。

Thank you to NetGalley, Bethany House Books and Ms。 Pettrey for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of this title。 An honest review was requested but not required。This is my first time reading a Christian romantic suspense thriller。 It's also my first time with Ms。 Pettrey。 You can enjoy the book without having read book #1 or #2 as the established relationships are made clear and the relationships between team members are also well delineated。 Overall I enjoyed the book, but I do think it Thank you to NetGalley, Bethany House Books and Ms。 Pettrey for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of this title。 An honest review was requested but not required。This is my first time reading a Christian romantic suspense thriller。 It's also my first time with Ms。 Pettrey。 You can enjoy the book without having read book #1 or #2 as the established relationships are made clear and the relationships between team members are also well delineated。 Overall I enjoyed the book, but I do think it would have benefitted from less going on。 There was not one mystery but two。 Furthermore, there were two different romantic relationships。 I think the narrative would have benefitted from at least one of those four elements being reduced or removed。 I'm not a frequent reader of Christian novels so I won't comment on that element other than to note that the many pauses for prayer in the initial chapters, while understandable, did have the unfortunate effect of grinding the urgent, fast-paced situation to a crawl。 I also was a little doubtful that the entire team would be fervently Christian (or clearly on the path to becoming so, i。e。, Logan), as well as all intermarrying, but OK, sure, why not。 I don't come across Christian thrillers too often, professionally, so it's always a plus to have one on the radar。 I'll keep this one on tap for readers looking for faith-based, very low-heat romances plus a little action。 。。。more

This book was worth the wait! I loved going back to Wilmington and spending time with the CGIS team。 Starting off with a mass shooting on a military base, they follow one lead after another to catch those who committed the terrible crime。 Interspersed was a secondary case which brought Caleb and private investigator, Austin Kelly, together again。 And as is the case with all Dani Pettrey books, the organic nature of the Christian lifestyle of the main characters was refreshing to read。 I enjoyed This book was worth the wait! The Deadly Shallows races through disaster and drama faster than any other book in the Coastal Guardians series! You won’t be able to keep up with CGIS Agent Noah Rowley as he tries to stop the violence that’s happening all around Wilmington。Rowley is a man to be admired, and that’s clear from the lengths to which he goes to try to find answers to the attacks on his team。 I love reading about men of honor, and Rowley is one of the best。 What takes this story to a whole new level is the way that The Deadly Shallows races through disaster and drama faster than any other book in the Coastal Guardians series! It was difficult to decide which drove this story, the romance or the suspense。 There was a lot of both。 In this book two new couples are formed as they each collaborate on their own case。 I am a big fan of Dani Pettrey, but I must say that this is not in my top three favorites of her books, although I enjoyed it enough to feel comfortable recommending it to others。 It's just a personal preference for me to have the scales tip a bit more to the suspense storyline than to the romance one。 I am gr It was difficult to decide which drove this story, the romance or the suspense。 There was a lot of both。 In this book two new couples are formed as they each collaborate on their own case。 I am a big fan of Dani Pettrey, but I must say that this is not in my top three favorites of her books, although I enjoyed it enough to feel comfortable recommending it to others。 It's just a personal preference for me to have the scales tip a bit more to the suspense storyline than to the romance one。 I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of The Deadly Shallows from Bethany House without obligation。 All opinions expressed here are my own。 。。。more

Dani Pettrey came on the Christian fiction scene in May of 2012 with Submerged, the first book of her Alaskan Courage Series, and immediately became one of my top favorite Christian suspense authors。 Deadly Shallows keeps her at that spot。 A year ago, The Crushing Depths left readers thinking and hoping that this next book would feature Brooke and Noah, the CGIS Agent In Charge。。。。and that is what happened。 I try not to exaggerate in book reviews, but this book was over the top awesome。 It may Dani Pettrey came on the Christian fiction scene in May of 2012 with Submerged, the first book of her Alaskan Courage Series, and immediately became one of my top favorite Christian suspense authors。 Deadly Shallows keeps her at that spot。 A year ago, The Crushing Depths left readers thinking and hoping that this next book would feature Brooke and Noah, the CGIS Agent In Charge。。。。and that is what happened。 I try not to exaggerate in book reviews, but this book was over the top awesome。 It may be her best one yet。 Twenty-five pages in, there is a shooting, and the book has non stop action and suspense from that point on。 The book had a great plot, and Pettrey did a great job of taking that plot and making a very entertaining and suspenseful read that yes, I did read in one sitting。 This is NOT a book you leave on your bed stand and read a little of it over a few weeks。 It deserves。。。。。maybe even demands to be read and devoured at one sitting。 Or did it devour me? I feel this author excels at team camaraderie。 Her first series was about a family, but this and the previous series is about a team。 I enjoyed the suspense of course - that is my favorite genre' - but I also enjoyed the interplay and friendships between the team members and those helping them。 And possibly more evident in this book was the different talents/specialties of each member and how they worked their individual skill set to solve the case, and give their updates at the daily case board updates。 The bad guys were awesome。。。。。。well, still bad, but their role and reasons for what happened were well thought out and what is a suspense novel without bad guys? Noah and Brooke: this is romantic suspense, and this bachelor for life long ago started tolerating the romantic aspect of these books, and now I actually enjoy them and root for them。 There is an element of what I guess you can call suspense when it comes to even those parts of the book。 They obviously made a great couple, but Noah's secret was holding him back。 Both of them were very likable and awesome characters, and I admit my eyes watered at the one scene when Noah finally came clean。 In addition to that romance, there was also a budding romance fun to watch between Caleb and Austin (don't worry - in this book Austin was a female) :) The further I got in the book, the more suspenseful it got and the more happened as the bad guys desperately worked toward their final goal。 There were some surprises, and you never knew who was going to end up dead next。 The whole story came to quite an explosive climax that had me on the end of my seat reading as fast as I could。 The good guys did their job, and the bad guys。。。。。。。well, read the book。 But read the first two before you read #3。 Deadly Shadows had a great ending after the case was over。 It was both amusing and a satisfying end to the Noah and Brooke part of the story。 This third book in the Coastal Guardian Series shows why this author is so well loved and popular。 And it also shows why she needs to keep using her talent to write top quality Christian suspense。 Definitely five stars, thought it deserves more than the allotted five。 I am hoping there is a book #4, and that it covers Logan and Emmy。 Logan, the non-believer of the team, has been an intriguing character throughout all three books。I was provided a copy of this book for review purposes。 All opinions in this review are my own。 。。。more

Well, they are certainly going to try - but to find out whether or not they succeed you have to read the book。The book is fairly well-paced throughout。 And we have not one but two potential romances on the horizon between first Noah and Brooke and second Caleb and Austin。 So plenty of romance and suspense in this one。 There are quite a few murders but no graphic descriptions to keep you up at night。 Nope, the only reason this book will give you a late-night is because you can't put it down。 This book is the third book in The Coastal Guardians series but you could read it as a standalone book (there are a few references to previous actions but nothing to keep you from enjoying the book)。I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion - all thoughts expressed are my own。 。。。more

The star characters in this book are CGIS Agent Noah Rawley and Coast Guard Medic Brooke Kesler。 These two have been "dancing" on the edges of romance ever since the series started。 When there is a mass shooting on the Coast Guard base during a graduation, Brooke ends up helping one of the wounded gunmen。 Before he is placed in the ambulance, he whispers something in her ear。 She really does not think too much about it。 However, this has made her a target for the traitorous individuals who are causing death and destruction。 Noah feels he has to protect Brooke and this will only bring them closer。 There is another side story going on with Austin and Logan。 So, the author keeps you on your toes trying to solve two mysteries at once。 The characters in this series are so real to me after reading all three books。 I feel as if I know them。 This group of Coast Guard agents and experts are the real thing。 They work as a team, and their faith makes them stronger as well。 Noah is a true born protector。 I always have a little chuckle when he is dealing with his sisters because they want so badly to "fix him" and help him out romantically。 This book reads a like an episode of NCIS only it is on the Coast Guard side of things。 It is about greed and revenge, and on the opposite side, learning to trust the ones around you without making assumptions。 The characters are engaging and the story line is dynamic。 If you enjoy a good, solid mystery with some thrills and romance, you will enjoy this book。 You do not have to read the first two books in this series, but I highly recommend that you read them all! 。。。more

I always looks forward to new Dani Pettrey books and The Deadly Shallows did not disappoint。This is the third book in the Coastal Guardians series。 While it could be read as a standalone, I would suggest reading the previous books first, to get a sense of the characters and relationships。 There isn’t really much recap and I found it took me a bit of time to remember what they all did and how they were connected。 The mysteries were interesting and kept the plot moving along quickly, but I though I always looks forward to new Dani Pettrey books and The Deadly Shallows did not disappoint。This is the third book in the Coastal Guardians series。 While it could be read as a standalone, I would suggest reading the previous books first, to get a sense of the characters and relationships。 There isn’t really much recap and I found it took me a bit of time to remember what they all did and how they were connected。 The mysteries were interesting and kept the plot moving along quickly, but I thought they could have been a little more developed。 I was never that invested in trying to figure things out and I kind of felt like Pettrey was the same。 There were several good action-y scenes, but it kind of felt like everything was just kind of filler for the romance plotlines。But, I’m not complaining about that because I was all in for the romances。 I was already shipping Noah and Brooke in the previous book and I loved them here。 I also really enjoyed seeing Austin and Caleb spend more time together and fall in love。 There were so many sweet, sappy moments in this book and I was here for them。 I was hoping to see more of Emmy and Logan, but hopefully they’ll be the focus of the next book。 Overall, I enjoyed The Deadly Shallows。 I liked the characters and really enjoyed the romance。 I also liked how the characters’ faith was an integral part of their daily lives。 I really look forward to this series continuing。 。。。more

This book hit the ground running and never let up! This is book 3 in the Coastal Guardians series。 The story itself can stand alone, but reading the other 2 books does give some additional insight on the CGIS team that the story focuses on。 This book follows Noah, who heads up the team - and Brooke, who is a flight medic they work with closely。 To a lesser extent, we also see the story of Caleb - one of Noah's team members and Austin, a PI that often works with the CGIS。 Because the other 2 book This book hit the ground running and never let up! Dani Pettrey is a fairly new to me author, but one that I'll definitely be on the look-out for to grab another of her books。 In The Deadly Shallows she takes plot threads and characters and weaves them into excellent romantic suspense。 There is breath-taking action and nail-biting suspense throughout the story。 There are several clean romances going on as well。 I loved the main characters。 Ms。 Pettrey makes them come to life。 The team works well together, and it was enjoyable to see what each ex Dani Pettrey is a fairly new to me author, but one that I'll definitely be on the look-out for to grab another of her books。 In The Deadly Shallows she takes plot threads and characters and weaves them into excellent romantic suspense。 There is breath-taking action and nail-biting suspense throughout the story。 There are several clean romances going on as well。 I loved the main characters。 Ms。 Pettrey makes them come to life。 The team works well together, and it was enjoyable to see what each excelled in。 There is also a very natural faith element that some of the characters live out。I highly recommend The Deadly Shallows to clean romantic suspense readers and to readers of Christian romantic suspense。I received a copy through NetGalley and am sharing my opinion of this well-written book。 。。。more

Wow! What a wild ride Pettrey takes her readers on in The Deadly Shallows, book 3 in the Coastal Guardians series。 This book centers on the mass shooting at a Coast Guard base。 The event at the beginning of the book is a bit shocking, but Pettrey handles the subject matter in a sensitive manner。 That being said, the bad guys are very, very bad and shadowy。 It takes the whole team of investigators, plus some, to uncover the conspiracy behind the crime。 I like that about Pettrey’s books — her ense Wow! The suspense and danger are non-stop with lots of twists and turns and the chemistry between the main characters is perfect for lovers of romance。 The faith journeys of the characters are naturally portrayed too。 You really do get a riveting suspense novel with characters to love。While this book is part of a series, I guess you could read it as a standalone, but I would not recommend that。 Begin at the beginning if you haven’t already。 I just hope the next book is coming soon。 Fingers crossed!Recommended。Audience: adults。(Thanks to the publisher for an advanced copy。 All opinions expressed are mine alone。) 。。。more

I'm enjoying the Coastal Guardians series much more than her previous series。 Oddly, I think I liked the secondary love story more than the first--I liked their banter which may have been because the primary love story's main characters were always in jeopardy so their conversations/interactions had a different feel。 This book definitely maintains Pettrey's trademark frequent action and peril which keeps the story moving along at a quick clip。 Overall, an enjoyable addition to the series and sin I'm enjoying the Coastal Guardians series much more than her previous series。 Oddly, I think I liked the secondary love story more than the first--I liked their banter which may have been because the primary love story's main characters were always in jeopardy so their conversations/interactions had a different feel。 This book definitely maintains Pettrey's trademark frequent action and peril which keeps the story moving along at a quick clip。 Overall, an enjoyable addition to the series and since it was based in my hometown--all the more fun!I received this book from the publisher and my honest review/opinions are my own。 。。。more

Be prepared to block off time to read because you will want to immerse yourself in this story。 Pettrey brings back characters that readers know and have grown to love from previous books in the series。 These characters are members of the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) and are realistic, and relatable, and readers have grown to appreciate them, flaws and all。 Pettrey has allowed the characters to struggle in their personal lives and has she shown how they overcome adversity。 She displays their growth when a mass shooting occurs on the Coast Guard base and they immediately rally into action each using their unique gift set to meet the needs around them。 What I liked most about this book is that Pettrey shows the importance of teamwork, loyalty, and the trust they feel towards each other。 When Coast Guard flight medic Brooke Kesler finds herself treating one of the attackers, he whispers one word to her that puts her life in imminent danger。 It will be up to the team to keep her safe while also solving the crime。 Pettrey’s strategic use of romance helps cement her characters and her plot together。 The suspense element makes all Pettrey stories feel intensely real as if readers are experiencing the action instead of merely reading about it。 The Deadly Shallows will not disappoint as it is riveting from the first scene to the last!I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Bethany House Publishers & NetGalley。 The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence。 。。。more
