Reread these in a fit of peak nostalgia and I very much enjoyed them。 They go a lot faster as an adult than they did as a kid :)

Great set of books。 Read with my 3rd grader who has little love for reading。 I have been reading these with him to try to new things and hopefully inspire a love of books。 Fingers crossed as we move on to the next set。

I think that this book changed my life because it showed me to be adventurous。 I liked Jack and Annie going into their tree house and going through book they read。 After they get close they get into the book and adventure the book。 I loved the book because it showed things that could never be done but the main characters are kids。

I read these to see if they would be good for my 5-year-old, who loves to read but needs something between Little Golden Books and real chapter books。 These were perfect -- long enough that he gets chapters, but at only about 60 big-print pages each, they're short enough that he's not overwhelmed。 The subject matter is also great -- the characters, Jack and Annie, travel through time to exactly the kinds of places that little kids like to pretend they're visiting, if they know about them, and if I read these to see if they would be good for my 5-year-old, who loves to read but needs something between Little Golden Books and real chapter books。 These were perfect -- long enough that he gets chapters, but at only about 60 big-print pages each, they're short enough that he's not overwhelmed。 The subject matter is also great -- the characters, Jack and Annie, travel through time to exactly the kinds of places that little kids like to pretend they're visiting, if they know about them, and if they're too young to know about some of the settings, these books are great introductions to new times and places (in the first 8 books, locations include Egyptian pyramids, pirate ships, the time of dinosaurs, medieval castals, feudal Japan with ninjas and samurai, and a space station on the moon)。 There's tension, but it's never too scary。 I like that Jack tries to be responsible and likes to prepare by learning more from books, but I also like that Annie reminds him of the value of looking at what's really happening around him。 My 5-year-old has now read ahead of me in the series, and when he's not reading, his pretend play has expanded dramatically to include sneaking past sleeping animals in caves, finding secret passageways in castles, searching for ghosts, and other things he never used to pretend。The writing style is pretty simple and formulaic, but there are some good story arcs across the books。 So while I wish the writing was a liiiiittle better, simple is kind of what you want for a kid's first read-alone chapter book。 The formula also means that my son has started recognizing patterns that he is using to write his own Magic Tree House story, which is pretty cool。 。。。more

Grade: K-4Modern Fantasy/Historical Fiction This first book in the series is a fun and engaging book that I think kids will love to read and be read to。 I think boys and girls can connect with Jack and Annie as they get thrown into a place where dinosaurs exist。 The book is great as it takes kids on a journey through the imagination。

That if I ever meet the author I would thank her for writing these books

My children were mesmerizedAfter reading this book, the imaginations of my twin 6 year olds were soaring sky high。 They talked about this book for days and incorporated parts of it into their daily playing

I used to read these books back in elementary and middle school and loved them。 They were really easy reads and had so much adventure that captivated you every time。 They had occasional pictures as well so you can put the picture of Jack and Annie in your mind of what they looked like and how they would be accomplishing tasks。 It amazed me that they were just kids doing such great missions like it was all up to just them。 These are great books to keep children's attention。 I used to read these books back in elementary and middle school and loved them。 They were really easy reads and had so much adventure that captivated you every time。 They had occasional pictures as well so you can put the picture of Jack and Annie in your mind of what they looked like and how they would be accomplishing tasks。 It amazed me that they were just kids doing such great missions like it was all up to just them。 These are great books to keep children's attention。 。。。more

These books are a great read for the blooming reader。 They are full of evens in time from a historical fiction point of view。 In the first book the reader are placed in Frog Creek Pennsylvania with two young children who find a tree house that transports them into a place in that are in the books。 These books are engaging and detailed for the young child。 They mix excitement and love of learning through the adventures of Jack and Anne。

Erin Pesavento
