Summary

Annie Pederson has lived her life in the shadow of tragedy。 Her sister was kidnapped off a dock one day while they were playing。 Her father never forgave her for failing to stop it—even though she was only eight at the time。 Her first love deserted her for an orthopedic residency。 She quickly married his best friend and they were happy—until he and her parents were all killed in the same accident。

Now Annie is doing her best to keep all the different parts of her life afloat: her job as a park ranger, where she’s never stopped looking for evidence of her sister’s fate; the Tremolo Inn and Marina, which her parents owned her whole life and she can’t bear to see fail now that they’re gone; and her eight-year-old daughter, Kylie, who’s quickly losing memories of her father。

When Annie’s first love, Jon, returns to town, she tries her best to hide from him—she knows that story only ends in heartbreak—but avoiding him becomes impossible when she finds herself the victim of escalating incidents。 Her home is broken into and her belongings riffled through。 Her daughter’s things are destroyed。 An arson attack consumes a beautiful pavilion her father built。 A sniper’s bullet takes out a tire on her car。 Why is she being targeted? And what secrets is some unknown enemy so desperate to keep hidden?

Thanks so much NetGalley and Thomas Nelson。 I really like Coble's books, and this one did not disappoint。 Annie's sister disappeared when they were children。 Now she's a widowed law enforcement officer and mom to an 8 year old。 A body surfaces and old memories return。I liked this book because of the mystery aspects of the storyline, as well as the character development。 Some novels miss that part, and I think having good characters brings so much to the story。 Can't wait to read the rest of the Thanks so much NetGalley and Thomas Nelson。 I really like Coble's books, and this one did not disappoint。 Annie's sister disappeared when they were children。 Now she's a widowed law enforcement officer and mom to an 8 year old。 A body surfaces and old memories return。I liked this book because of the mystery aspects of the storyline, as well as the character development。 Some novels miss that part, and I think having good characters brings so much to the story。 Can't wait to read the rest of the series! 。。。more

Edge of Dusk by Colleen Coble is an action packed suspense。 It is part one in a three part series。 There is closure but not complete closure to keep you wanting more in the next couple books。 Annie’s sister went missing when their were kids and she has blamed herself ever since。 Now the mother of an 8 year old。 She lost her husband and parents in a recent boating accident。 I struggled with her decision to marry her fiancé’s best friend soon after they broke up。 And that she had any doubt at all Edge of Dusk by Colleen Coble is an action packed suspense。 It is part one in a three part series。 There is closure but not complete closure to keep you wanting more in the next couple books。 Annie’s sister went missing when their were kids and she has blamed herself ever since。 Now the mother of an 8 year old。 She lost her husband and parents in a recent boating accident。 I struggled with her decision to marry her fiancé’s best friend soon after they broke up。 And that she had any doubt at all as to whether her ex fiancé was involved in the teen girls disappearance。 Annie’s ex fiancé is back in town to fix up and sell their family home。 He and Annie re-establish their friendship。My favorite part of the book was Annie dealing with finding out her daughter had celiac disease。 The author shared a lot of great information and eating tips and encouragement。 My second favorite part of the book was revisiting Rock Harbor and some of our favorite characters from that series。 I received this book from Netgalley。 I was not required to write a positive review。You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books。 。。。more

I always look forward to Colleen Coble's new book releases, and I was especially excited for this one since her last release ended up being one of my all time favorites by her。 Unfortunately, this one ended up not being exactly what I was expecting, and although I did still enjoy certain parts of it, it's not a new favorite, and it's not one I ended up loving。I struggled to connect with any of the characters throughout the story, and I thought they all behaved quite juvenile and immature, and it I always look forward to Colleen Coble's new book releases, and I was especially excited for this one since her last release ended up being one of my all time favorites by her。 Unfortunately, this one ended up not being exactly what I was expecting, and although I did still enjoy certain parts of it, it's not a new favorite, and it's not one I ended up loving。I struggled to connect with any of the characters throughout the story, and I thought they all behaved quite juvenile and immature, and it was often hard to read about。 Kylie's behavior didn't seem to be typical of a child her age, and I thought she desperately needed therapy, and proper discipline, instead of the pandering that Annie was constantly giving to her。 I understand she was devastated by the loss of her father and grandparents, but she seemed to get away with whatever she wanted, including treating any and everyone badly that she didn't personally care for。I thought it was an interesting plot point that both Jon and Kylie have celiac disease, as the author was able to bring attention to the struggles involved for anyone who's been diagnosed with this disease。 However, the information on it went on and on, and I thought way more attention to this detail was given than was truly necessary to the plot。 Including stressing over and over again which gluten free brands were the best for Annie to be buying for Kylie。I'm someone who has read a lot of suspense novels over the years, especially Christian suspense, and I have to be honest that the content of this one really ended up bothering me。 It was a lot darker than I was initially expecting, and while the faith element was there, it wasn't strong enough to combat all of the darkness that plays a big part in the mystery。 I wanted a lot more Jesus to balance out all of the darkness, and I don't feel I got that。I did enjoy the setting, the bigger mystery that's set up for the rest of the series, and as always, I really enjoyed Colleen Coble's immersive writing style。 However, I wish more answers had been explained properly in the conclusion, and I felt everything wrapped up much too quickly。Final Rating: 3/5。I'm definitely intrigued enough to keep reading on with the rest of the series, but I hope I end up enjoying the second title more than I did this one。Thanks so much to Thomas Nelson for allowing me to advance read and review this one!I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the publisher (Thomas Nelson) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 I was not required to give a positive review。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

Another good story from Rock Harbor! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's another one of those stories where boy and girl were in love, one goes off to the big city, the other stays behind, etc。 I guess I've just been reading too many of those lately。。。 The mystery is great! It's got lots of suspense。 Definitely some of the creepy factor! And it includes helpful information for those with celiac disease。Thank you to HarperCollins and NetGalley for the advance e-copy! Started as a pretty run of the mill suspense mystery until the second half, when I started getting whacked over the head with religion。 And how-to tips for eating gluten-free。

Colleen Coble brings excitement, anxiousness, and action to the first book in the Annie Pederson series, Edge of Dusk。 This is a romantic suspense novel with a subtle Christian fiction tone set in in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in and around the village of Rock Harbor。Annie’s five-year-old sister Laura was kidnapped when Annie was nine。 Annie has never forgiven herself for letting it happen and neither did her father。 Annie is now 33 and has an eight-year-old daughter, Kylie。 Her husband Colleen Coble brings excitement, anxiousness, and action to the first book in the Annie Pederson series, Edge of Dusk。 This is a romantic suspense novel with a subtle Christian fiction tone set in in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in and around the village of Rock Harbor。Annie’s five-year-old sister Laura was kidnapped when Annie was nine。 Annie has never forgiven herself for letting it happen and neither did her father。 Annie is now 33 and has an eight-year-old daughter, Kylie。 Her husband and parents were killed in a boating accident two years ago。 She is now a law enforcement ranger。 Additionally, she runs the Tremolo Resort and Marina。 When she finds a dead body floating in Lake Superior, she begins working with the sheriff’s office to solve the crime。 At the same time, her old boyfriend, Jon Dustan, returns after being away for nine years。 His presence inflames some of the locals。 He was linked to a cold case before he left for his orthopedic residency。 Can things get any more complex? Absolutely! The author does a great job of characterization。 Annie Pederson is a likeable character with grit and determination。 However, her grief and self-recrimination over Laura’s kidnapping and Jon leaving her have had a deep effect on her spirit。 Kylie is usually sweet but seems to have an unnatural dislike of Jon the minute she meets him。 Many of the other characters have depth and either put readers on guard or invite them to learn more about them。 Others needed a little more development, especially Taylor Moore。This story has a multi-layered plot with several mysteries and some twists and turns as well as a few surprises along the way。 It starts with a prologue set twenty-four years ago when Laura was kidnapped and then jumps to current times and a multitude of investigations and current case follow-ups。 Additionally, Jon asks Annie to help him clear his name on the cold case。 With the investigations heating up, Annie starts getting threats。 Which case is causing someone to feel threatened and can Annie solve it before she winds up dead or injured? The world-building is excellent。 From the woods to the small towns to Lake Superior, readers are enveloped in the atmosphere of the Upper Peninsula。 With lies, secrets, mysteries, and action, I couldn’t wait to read what was going to happen next。 Themes include jealousy, friendship, misunderstanding, family, grief, anger management, murder, romance, kidnapping, and much more。 While the main mysteries are wrapped up, there are several loose threads at the end of the novel that will make for excellent storylines in future novels。Overall, this book was engaging, atmospheric, and suspenseful。 It did a great job of keeping me hooked and having compassion for the characters through their struggles。 This was an excellent start to what I hope will be a long series。 I’m looking forward to reading more from this author。Thomas Nelson—FICTION and Colleen Coble provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley。 This is my honest review。 I received a complimentary copy of this book。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and are not biased in any way。 Publication date is currently set for July 12, 2022。 This review was originally posted at Mystery and Suspense Magazine。 。。。more

(2。5 stars)I picked up Edge of Dusk as a thriller/crime novel without knowing anything more than the publisher's blurb, and never having read anything by Colleen Coble before。 It is my view that this book would be better described as a Christian romance novel where an estranged couple work to solve a set of intersecting mysteries in the course of rekindling their personal relationship。 Coble has two very clear agendas in this book—Christianity and gluten-free diets—that are not mentioned in the (2。5 stars)I picked up Edge of Dusk as a thriller/crime novel without knowing anything more than the publisher's blurb, and never having read anything by Colleen Coble before。 It is my view that this book would be better described as a Christian romance novel where an estranged couple work to solve a set of intersecting mysteries in the course of rekindling their personal relationship。 Coble has two very clear agendas in this book—Christianity and gluten-free diets—that are not mentioned in the book's publicity。 They are repeated ad nauseum throughout the novel to the point where I wanted to yell, "I literally do not care what sort of bread your your turkey sandwiches are made on"。 These agendas get in the way of the novel being a thriller/crime novel。 The religious agenda requires belief and foreknowledge (no sex before marriage, bible content) from the reader to be in any way interesting: "[s]he was no Naomi like in the bible。" With these agendas being advanced so repeatedly, I think it would be more honest for them to be captured in the publisher's blurb (indeed this novel might really appeal to Christians and people struggling with finding out they are gluten-free)。 For me personally, both agenda's impacted upon character building: "His character and faith were the most important parts of him。 He pulled out his phone and searched for the verse he thought he remembered。 He found it in Hebrews。。。" There sure were a lot of thought bubbles about God: "Was God leading him to this point?" So most of the time the novel felt tedious, with the author needing to constantly tell us what the characters were thinking all the time, rather than showing it through their actions。 This led to me getting the impression the author thought I was dumb, needed constant reminding about very banal characteristics of people who I struggled to relate to。 The characters were also mostly caught up in each other rather than the mystery I came for, so I encourage it to be marketed to romance readers more than crime ones: "God brought me back to you and Kylie。 We have a lot of wrinkles to figure out, but I'll but here for all of it with you。"The only bit of Edge of Dusk that I personally found interesting was the Finnish connection to the Lake Superior area (apparently from a wave of immigration in the 1800s) evidenced by Finnish terms littered throughout the novel。 This might have been better explained for a non-North American audience (at least as well as the gluten-free diet was) to make this a better standalone book。 With thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for sending me a copy to read。 。。。more

The Edge of Dusk is a roller coaster ride! I’m not usually a big fan of romance, but this was more of a thriller with a bit of love mixed in。This story starts with a bang, as Annie Pederson was just 9 years old when her 5-year-old sister Laura was kidnapped one evening while they were dockside listening for the eerie call of loons。 A hooded figure in a broad grabbed her little sister Laura。 Annie wax knocked out and she never saw Laura again。 。 Now, twenty-four years later, Annie is a Law Enforc The Edge of Dusk is a roller coaster ride! Add to that the fact that I could not put this book down with all the mystery and suspense, and you know we have a good book。 I loved going back to Rock Harbor and, even though Bree and Kade aren't the MCs anymore, they still feature prominently。 And honestly, it is time for someone new。 I'm glad everyone from before is around to interact with Annie Pedersen。 Annie witnessed and experienced the traumatic abducti Colleen Coble is BACK with a SERIES set in ROCK HARBOR!!!! I loved returning to Rock Harbor in Colleen Coble’s latest novel。 The setting is richly detailed。 The characters three dimensional with cares and joys。 And the layers of mystery are richly drawn。

Wow! what a story。Annie and Jon have a past together。 Jon comes home to sell his dad's property and the past comes back to the present。Strange things start happening on Annie's property。 Vandalism, dead bodies and missing persons。 Can Jon and Annie figure out who is behind a past crime before danger sets it's eyes on them? Colleen Coble definitely knows how to write suspense! There is certainly a lot of it in this book。 Annie's sister is kidnapped at the beginning。 Then fast forward to when she is an adult。 There are campers attacked。 Annie has lost her parents and her husband。 There were girls kidnapped nine years ago。 There is a lot going on。。。。and who is doing it? Her old boyfriend? Someone new? You are constantly kept guessing! Great book!I received an advanced reader copy of this book and am voluntarily revie Colleen Coble definitely knows how to write suspense! This book is so good! I get excited every time I see that she has written another book! I started reading her books a few years ago and I am amazed at how much better her books are now! I always think about taking it slow, but before I realize, I have read the entire book in just a few hours。 I believe this is the first book in a series。 But, none of them keep you hanging。Thank you so much, NetGalley for giving me this book to read and review! I cannot wait for the next one!

I am a big Colleen Coble fan ~ this is my seventeenth novel by her。This is Book #1 in the Annie Pederson series。Annie is a thirty-three year old law enforcement ranger and the Manager of the Tremolo Resort and Marina in Rock Harbor ~ which she inherited when her parents died。 (Note: If you are a Colleen Coble fan you know that her “Rock Harbor” was a great series! Annie and her eight-year old daughter Kylie live alone as Annie’s husband died in a suspicious boating accident。Colleen Coble doe I am a big Colleen Coble fan ~ this is my seventeenth novel by her。This is Book #1 in the Annie Pederson series。Annie is a thirty-three year old law enforcement ranger and the Manager of the Tremolo Resort and Marina in Rock Harbor ~ which she inherited when her parents died。 (Note: If you are a Colleen Coble fan you know that her “Rock Harbor” was a great series! This is a suspenseful read with a satisfying romantic story。 I loved the setting of the upper Peninsula on Lake Superior。 I struggled a bit with the protagonist; she is in law enforcement, yet she is constantly getting rescued by the romantic lead。 This book is aimed at christian readers, but the spirituality is subtly woven into the plot, and readers of all faiths will enjoy it。

A new series by Colleen Coble starts with "A Edge of Dusk" and thanks to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson I was able to read it early。 This one leaves you wanting more。 I enjoyed this one, but it did take a bit to get into the story。 Once I got into the story, I couldn't put it down。 Now I can't wait to get to the next one。 I do wish that some of the story didn't wait until the end to find out。 But leaving it to the end will get you ready for the next book。 This series, I think would be great to have A new series by Colleen Coble starts with "A Edge of Dusk" and thanks to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson I was able to read it early。 This one leaves you wanting more。 I enjoyed this one, but it did take a bit to get into the story。 Once I got into the story, I couldn't put it down。 Now I can't wait to get to the next one。 I do wish that some of the story didn't wait until the end to find out。 But leaving it to the end will get you ready for the next book。 This series, I think would be great to have the whole series to read at one time。 #AEdgeofDusk #NetGalley #ThomasNelson 。。。more
