Summary

I've known him all my life。 I know he has taken my daughter。 His mother says she can help me。 But she's the last person I can trust。。。

Samuel lived next door when we were children。 We were inseparable。 But he didn’t like sharing me with my adored little brother。 And one terrible night, he got rid of my brother forever…

Now, years later, he’s free。 And my daughter is missing。

I turn on my baby girl’s unicorn nightlight and bury my face in her pillow, my heart breaking。 I know Samuel has her – he blames me for ruining his life, and even after all this time, he still doesn’t like to share。

As darkness falls, there’s a knock at my door and I open it to see Samuel’s mother。 She says she can help me。

I know I can’t trust her, but I don’t have a choice。 With each step I take, my fear grows stronger。 Can she help me find my daughter? Or does she know something about what really happened all those years ago? Something that could stop me from saving my baby girl…

I don't know why some K。L。 Slater fans complain about this one。 Unexpected twists, satisfying ending, extremely complex and psychologically damaged characters, good read。 I don't know why some K。L。 Slater fans complain about this one。 Unexpected twists, satisfying ending, extremely complex and psychologically damaged characters, good read。 。。。more

This is one of those books where the journey is far more exciting and interesting than the destination。I had never read anything by the author before but have heard far too many people raving about their books so was excited to give this a try。 Don't get me wrong it was a good book, I just felt the last 60 pages or so with all the reveals heavily let it down。 When I found out the first big twist I had already had a bad feeling about one of the people involved from quite early on and from that mo This is one of those books where the journey is far more exciting and interesting than the destination。I had never read anything by the author before but have heard far too many people raving about their books so was excited to give this a try。 Don't get me wrong it was a good book, I just felt the last 60 pages or so with all the reveals heavily let it down。 When I found out the first big twist I had already had a bad feeling about one of the people involved from quite early on and from that moment I wasn't really engaged anymore。 Also, the tagline was rather misleading in my opinion。I also couldn't really connect with Josie as a character; I felt bad for her with everything that happened with her mother as a child and also with her daughter being missing but I don't feel she was written rather well, she felt very two dimensional (which I know she was but other characters seemed more life-like)。I will try more books by this author as I felt like on the whole their books are worth a read。*Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and K。 L。 Slater for the copy of this book。 All views are my own。* 。。。more

Another amazing read from KL Slater!I go into this author’s books blind now because I have read all her previous works, and this one did not disappoint。 Told in a few timelines, we learn that Josie’s little brother Jimmy died in 1993 at just 8 years old, and Samuel Barlow was convicted and spent the next 25 years in prison。 26 years from that dreadful day, Samuel is released and seems to be worse than he was before prison in every aspect。 Josie has tried to rebuild her life; she has a successful Another amazing read from KL Slater!I go into this author’s books blind now because I have read all her previous works, and this one did not disappoint。 Told in a few timelines, we learn that Josie’s little brother Jimmy died in 1993 at just 8 years old, and Samuel Barlow was convicted and spent the next 25 years in prison。 26 years from that dreadful day, Samuel is released and seems to be worse than he was before prison in every aspect。 Josie has tried to rebuild her life; she has a successful business and has an 8-year-old little girl called Ivy。Ivy is playing in the childminders garden when within a few seconds she has vanished。 Josie is convinced Samuel Barlow has taken her as revenge, did he take her? This book was full of twists, just when I thought I had sussed who did it I was left scratching my head again。 The ending had me in total shock, I really didn’t expect it at all!Another great book from a fantastic author! 。。。more

The prose was laid with many bread crumbs where I had a fun time choosing which one to pick。 The one thing I was sure of in the entire story became a fact in it。 So I liked my detective work。 There were a few other twists, which was quite unexpected, some were inherent to the plot and others, to the characterization。 The characters were well-developed and had equal pages in showing me how their life panned out。 I didn't go WOWZA over it。 The prose was not enthralling enough to keep me stuck to i The prose was laid with many bread crumbs where I had a fun time choosing which one to pick。 The one thing I was sure of in the entire story became a fact in it。 So I liked my detective work。 There were a few other twists, which was quite unexpected, some were inherent to the plot and others, to the characterization。 The characters were well-developed and had equal pages in showing me how their life panned out。 I didn't go WOWZA over it。 The prose was not enthralling enough to keep me stuck to it。 So I read it over two sittings。 I wanted the final twist of identity and motive of perp to be more connected to the main plot line。 I could easily know who were not the perps。But that was just my thought。 It might not be yours。 A solid psychological thriller。 3。2 stars 。。。more

The fixation on her biscuit baking, though mildly relevant to the plot, dragged and gets in the way of the plot a bit。 Just one or two mentions would have sufficed enough to make the point that she was successful and busy。It felt like there was a lot of overexplaining and repetition between the different points of view。 I felt like it started well and then got a little bit lost meandering through the plot to the end。 The leaping in time hindered the story a little too。 The ending wasn’t my favourite either! There were plenty of twists in the mystery of who took Ivy and what happened, but it was a little too far-fetched。 The obvious conclusion was not here and didn’t really make sense。 It came out of nowhere and was completely unrealistic。 The ends were tied up but a little too loosely and some characters were left hanging a little, with some relationships turning around unrealistically quickly。 I also disliked the three future endings, one week later, three months later and then finally eighteen months later。What could have been a riveting, quick, read turned into a slightly frustrating, drawn out read for me。 In the end it took me six days to get through it as I kept putting it down or had to go back and see what had happened before。 I did enjoy some parts, the premise was great and the beginning descriptions of Jimmy brilliant and chilling, perhaps even more so if you have children yourself。 Some of the twists were good but I think I just had enough by then。Maybe I have been spoilt by too many excellent books by K。L。 Slater previously, she has written some blinding thrillers but unfortunately, this just wasn’t one of them。 Not even her fantastic writing style could style this one out。Goodreads linksMore reviews on my blog follow me on Instagram follow me on twitter 。。。more

K。L。 Slater is back with this thriller that will have you hooked till the final pages。 Josie’s little girl, Ivy has vanished and a top suspect is Samuel who has been released from prison after being incarcerated for killing Josie’s brother 25 years before。 Some characters you may like, others you may not, but the plot is top-notch, as is the pacing。 A terrific, rollercoaster tale packed with twists。 Very highly recommended。I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookoutu K。L。 Slater is back with this thriller that will have you hooked till the final pages。 Josie’s little girl, Ivy has vanished and a top suspect is Samuel who has been released from prison after being incarcerated for killing Josie’s brother 25 years before。 Some characters you may like, others you may not, but the plot is top-notch, as is the pacing。 A terrific, rollercoaster tale packed with twists。 Very highly recommended。I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion。 。。。more

I finished this book in a day but needed to think about it before writing a review。 That's because for me while there were aspects of a thriller to it, it didn't fit the traditional mold of this genre and transcended into family saga more often than not。 Josie is divorced from Terry。 They have an 8 year old daughter, Ivy,  who gets abducted from the child minder。 A week earlier Samuel Barstow was released on early parole from prison after serving 25 of his 30 year sentence for the murder of Jose I finished this book in a day but needed to think about it before writing a review。 That's because for me while there were aspects of a thriller to it, it didn't fit the traditional mold of this genre and transcended into family saga more often than not。 Josie is divorced from Terry。 They have an 8 year old daughter, Ivy,  who gets abducted from the child minder。 A week earlier Samuel Barstow was released on early parole from prison after serving 25 of his 30 year sentence for the murder of Jose's brother Jimmy。 Jimmy disappeared and was found locked in a sealed refrigeration unit where he suffocated。 Josie herself a teenager at the time was in hospital having been knocked over by a car。Who has taken Ivy? (Written before I started reading the book)。This novel consists of a prologue, 67 chapters and an epilogue。 The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed。。。OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case! This book is set in Nottinghamshire, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 UK。 I always seem to get on with books that are set in the UK better as I am from Wales and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book。 I have actually spent many holidays and days out in Nottinghamshire so am looking forward to seeing if I recognise anywhere。 This book is written in a mix of third and first person perspective and the protagonists are Josie Bennett, Maggie Barlow, DI Helena Price and Samuel Barlow。 The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them。 If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on。 The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing。 It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything。 To have the benefit of both first and third person perspective ensures you don't miss out on anything。 'Missing' ' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others。 I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not。 In this book K。L Slater discusses/includes child abduction。 OMG!!!! WHAT DID I JUST READ!!!! I DID NOT EXPECT THAT!!! MIND BLOWN MUCH!!! Wow!!! This book is fantastically written and had me hook, line and sinker from beginning to end。 The descriptions were so in depth and vivid that the hair on my arms was standing on the ends and my heart was pounding throughout。 The synopsis, title and cover were perfect for the storyline。I was absolutely absorbed throughout this page turner。 It is filled with tension, suspense, lies, secrets and omg the twists!!! I DID NOT see any of them coming!!! A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS K。L Slater!! It is getting harder and harder to shock me but by God you did that over and over and over!!! What an ending!!! One of the most gripping unputdownable nerve wracking psychological thrillers I have EVER read!!! You lady have one hell of a talent and I cannot wait to get hold of your previous and future books。 I cannot remember the last time I was so hooked by a book but you managed that big time!!! The storyline is filled with crime, shocks, suspense, tension, deceit and murder。 There was not one, two but at least 3 explosive bombshells I did not see coming!!! There was so much going on and it was very fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout。 Clear your schedule before you start as I read this in one sitting as I could not put it down!! Practically every chapter ended on a cliff hanger so no way could I put it down!! Absolutely hooked!! I would absolutely love to see this turned into a movie!!!! It is set over multiple time lines。 When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions。 It also shows the bigger picture。 I was completely invested in both the storyline and the characters。 Each of the characters had their own unique personalities and I felt differently about each of them。 I really liked Josie and felt so sorry on her throughout the book。 What happened is a mother's worse nightmare and I couldn't even imagine not knowing where my children were and she knew which i should imagine made it even worse, especially considering what she knew about the abductor。 I had mixed feelings about Maggie because again as a mother you always want to protect your child。 The storyline portrayed village life perfectly and I really do feel that what Maggie went through is what many families of criminals go through on a daily basis。 However, she hadn't helped herself by covering for her son。 I was glad for Jose's friendship with Fiona who, although Josie attacked her verbally, stood by her in the end。 I won't say anymore about the characters as I don't want to give anything away about the storyline not wanting to spoil it for future readers。 I loved meeting DI Helena Price again and I think her relationship with DS Kane Brewster was brilliant。 I previously "met" them in "The Widow" and was a lovely surprise to come across them again especially as both books are standalones, it's unusual to meet the same characters。 They made me laugh a few times especially Helena and her sarcastic attitude and Brewster with his scooby snacks!! All in all a great mix of characters that worked well with this storyline。 This is exactly why you are in my top author Club K。L Slater and your book is one of the best psychological thrillers I have EVER READ!! Bring on the next one!!! I cannot wait!!! Here's to the next success 🥂 Overall an absolutely heart racing, never wracking, unputdownable addictive psychological thriller!!! Genres covered in this novel include Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, and Psychological Fiction amongst others。 I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of 'Gone Girl' , 'The Girl on The Train', 'The Wife Between Us', Liane Moriarty, Lisa Jewell and anyone looking for an explosive thriller filled with bombshells you won't see coming!! 380 pages。This book is just £1。99 to purchase on kindle or free on kindle unlimited (at time of review) via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!! Missing is a completely gripping psychological suspense thriller that hooked me from the very start。 KL Slater is one of my absolute favourite authors and one when I hear she has a new book out I don’t even need to read the blurb, as I’ll be in for a rollercoaster of a ride。 Well this book certainly ticked all the boxes for me ; gripping, intense , page turner and lots of OMG moments。 One chapter I was certain I knew who was guilty and then suddenly I was slapped in the face by what I learned in Missing is a completely gripping psychological suspense thriller that hooked me from the very start。 KL Slater is one of my absolute favourite authors and one when I hear she has a new book out I don’t even need to read the blurb, as I’ll be in for a rollercoaster of a ride。 Well this book certainly ticked all the boxes for me ; gripping, intense , page turner and lots of OMG moments。 One chapter I was certain I knew who was guilty and then suddenly I was slapped in the face by what I learned in another chapter which honestly at times had me taking in deep breaths and having to read back a little to be sure I’d read it right。 This is what I love about Slaters books the absolute suspense and thrill of them and Missing was certainly that。 。。。more

Ahhhh I loved this book what a brilliant read from K。L Slater I love her books and am never disappointed by them and this one was no different。 Once I started it I honestly didn’t want to put it down。 Josie is a single mum to Ivy and runs her own business she has a full and pretty hectic lifestyle by anyones standards; however her world is turned upside down when Samuel is released early from prison after abducting and murdering her brother。 Six days after his release Ivy goes missing and Josie Ahhhh I loved this book what a brilliant read from K。L Slater I love her books and am never disappointed by them and this one was no different。 Once I started it I honestly didn’t want to put it down。 Josie is a single mum to Ivy and runs her own business she has a full and pretty hectic lifestyle by anyones standards; however her world is turned upside down when Samuel is released early from prison after abducting and murdering her brother。 Six days after his release Ivy goes missing and Josie is convinced that Samuel has taken her daughter and she will stop at nothing to get her back。 I really loved Josie’s character she is a mother who wants what is best for her daughter。 Josie also had a difficult upbringing and growing up her life wasn’t the perfect childhood she had hoped for。 Josie also has a deep secret she wants to keep hidden but there is someone out there who knows josie’s secret and once one thing is discovered a whole Pandora’s box of secrets, lies and truths are uncovered。 This book really did have it all。Thank you to NetGalley, bookouture and K。L Slater for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review。 。。。more

I’m a big KL Slater fan and she never disappoints。 Her plots are always interesting and twisty 😜。 Your thrown straight into the story and then you fast forward 26 years。 Told in the past and present which I always like as it really gives you an insight into the story and characters but from different ends。 Moved at a steady pace and I was gripped from the beginning。 Some likeable and some really unlikeable characters。 Definitely one that keeps you thinking where the story is going with twists an I’m a big KL Slater fan and she never disappoints。 Her plots are always interesting and twisty 😜。 Your thrown straight into the story and then you fast forward 26 years。 Told in the past and present which I always like as it really gives you an insight into the story and characters but from different ends。 Moved at a steady pace and I was gripped from the beginning。 Some likeable and some really unlikeable characters。 Definitely one that keeps you thinking where the story is going with twists and turns to beat the band。 Really enjoyed it。 Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to take part in the booktour for #Missing 。。。more

Oh My Goodness!! Where to even start with this book。 I've said before that I always feel safe opening a KL Slater book。 From the first page I feel totally safe that I'll be guided along a tense and intricate path of incredible storytelling, colourful and intriguing characters and an ending that will blow my socks off。 The story starts with a bang and doesn't let up right until the last page。 Every time I think I have one of this author's books sussed she just pulls the rug out from under my feet Oh My Goodness!! Throughout the book I didn't know who I could trust and who I couldn't as the characters were so brilliantly drawn and even after twist after turn there was one huge shocker at the end that I did not see coming。 An absolutely brilliant story, expertly written and highly recommended。 。。。more

“He took my daughter…Only his mother can help me…”In this storyline we are challenged with a scenario that perhaps feels almost impossible to imagine as something real happening to us, but I couldn’t help feel invested and have sympathy for Josie who having lost her brother all those years ago, is now facing the horror of her daughter going missing。With a harrowing opening, that had me reaching for the tissues, this sets up a chain of events that had me on the edge of my seat completely glued to “He took my daughter…Only his mother can help me…”In this storyline we are challenged with a scenario that perhaps feels almost impossible to imagine as something real happening to us, but I couldn’t help feel invested and have sympathy for Josie who having lost her brother all those years ago, is now facing the horror of her daughter going missing。With a harrowing opening, that had me reaching for the tissues, this sets up a chain of events that had me on the edge of my seat completely glued to the pages。 I just had to know how it was all going to pan out。 Talk about twists, turns and shocking revelations! I was absolutely shook! The characters are well developed and not all likeable。 The narration is divided up between Josie, Samual’s mother Maggie, Samual and DI Helena Price, which gives the reader a good scope, especially when we are transported to the past as we learn of both Josie and Samual’s childhood。 The standout for me was definitely Maggie who my heart went out to。Missing is another fantastic and addictive read from the queen of psychological thrillers! K。L。 Slater never disappoints and has once again delivered another first class and outstanding read which I loved!
