The cat is sent to the moon on a space ship where there is a stowaway, Loz 400, who was created by scientists to trim toenails but seeks more purpose。 The ship's computer is jealous, but Cat and Loz develop a plan to save the moon。 They meet the Queen of the Moon who has a key to the Dark Side, where the rats are。 It's a treacherous journey across the moon, and they seek the help of the Man in the Moon so that they can travel under the surface。 He feels that Cat is destined to sit in the moon chair and save the day, so allows them safe passage。 There journey is filled with all manner of quirky characters, such as a whale who falls in love with Loz's singing, meeting the pirate Captain Babybeard in the Sea of Tranquility, monsters in the shape of hands who steal the Moon Queen's key, and other characters who for some reason want to thwart the Cat as he tries to save the moon from the rats。 Will he succeed? And will he ever get a decent slice of pizza?Barnett does a great job with middle grade humor in The Terrible Two and Mac B。: Spy Kid, and The First Cat in Space has a lot of goofy moments。 My favorite was when Cat and his crew found out that Babybeard was a pirate, and they wanted no part of his evil exploits, especially when he prepares to attach a boat full of wide-eyed bunnies who are "just on our way to snuggle with lonely grandmas"! Readers who are familiar with books that embrace the traditional fantasy hero's journey will chuckle at how Cat's journey mirrors those tropes while also being tremendously ridiculous。 Harris' rough drawings, heavy on penciled or charcoaled outlines, lend a feeling of otherworldliness and also humor。 Cat looks rather inscrutable, and the Moon Queen looks a bit like a doll。 Loz and the ship's computer both get bigger roles than one would imagine。 The rats look properly evil, for creatures who are determined to eat the moon。 Despite the longer format of this book, I think that readers who enjoy Blabey's Bad Guys or Eaton's Flying Beaver Brothers will enjoy this one, and it is also closer to Pilkey's work than a lot of graphic novels I have seen; both have moments of being the James Joyce of the kidlit world in their use of stream of consciousness。 Brockington's Catstronauts: Mission Moon is another good read alike for kids who can't get enough of goofy graphic novels。As an adult, I did have some questions。 Why couldn't Cat have landed on the correct side of the moon? Wouldn't his space ship have come with a rover that would have expedited travel? Wasn't quite my own personal cup of tea。 。。。more

A live-action cartoon featuring the first cat in space, of course! And after the episodes have received thousands of views - the mandate of the people is that the story must be made into a graphic novel of epic adventure! At long last that project is coming to store shelves and online retailers so that we can all enjoy it even when the Internet is down。After astronomers discover that rats are actually eating the moon, a top secret mission launches the first cat in space to solve the problem。 Accompanied by a toenail-clipping robot and the queen of the moon, our intrepid hero must face rats from another galaxy and all the dangers inside their secret base on the dark side of the moon。 The hearty adventurers travel through the Land of Frost and the Peninsula of Thunder, meet the man in the moon and a three-headed rat king, and make allies and enemies along the way。 But with only three days to save the moon, will they succeed?Fans of Dog Man, The Flying Beaver Brothers, and similar humorous graphic novels for middle grade readers will have a new favorite book to read and talk over with friends。 The commander at Earth's Hexagon (military headquarters) comes up with silly phrases such as, "Oh my grammy's meat loaf" or "Oh my wrinkly pinkie toe" and his assistant Dr。Milksop always says, "My thoughts exactly, sir。" His outbursts remind me of Stone Rabbit exclaiming, "Crud monkeys!"Once readers reach the end of the book, they may enjoy having a watch party of the live cartoon episodes to see where the story began。 And there are hints that a second book may happen。 "Oh my mama llama。" 。。。more

Readers will be anxious for the trio to accomplish their mission, but also to see if the cat ever does really eat pizza – there are numerous moments when a break allows for a pizza snack, but the action always starts up again before the cat can get a bite of pizza。 My favorite part was when the trio gets to the gates of the moon, which is guarded by a sphinx。 True to her mythological history, there is a a riddle which must be solved before they can pass through。 The sphinx barrages them with rhyming riddles, which the queen of the moon and the robot get wrong。 Finally, the cat hazards a guess: “Meow?” And it’s the correct answer! Throughout the book, “Meow” is all the cat replies to many different questions, and it’s always the right answer。 I was laughing out loud。Barnett and Harris really got it right with this clever, laugh-out-loud offering, and there is a sequel in the works。 。。。more

Cats, robots, space, and pizza。 What else could you want? The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza was a cute and funny graphic novel with a target audience of 8-12 year olds。 I think this would be great for a classroom book or even for the young graphic novel lover in your life。 There were some funny references in the book for older readers and I think a lot of ironic humor sprinkled in for young readers。The graphic novel is around 315 pages long so it will probably last a younger reader a few days。 Wi Cats, robots, space, and pizza。 What else could you want? I received a free digital ARC from HarperCollins Children’s Books via NetGalley。 This is a graphic novel for ages 8-12。 My son who is 7 loved this because as he said “it has cats, robots, the moon and pizza。” The Princess, the cat and the robot have to save the moon from being eaten by rats with large incisors。 Their trip is full of meeting very ridiculous characters that propel their journey forward to the climatic ending with the rats。 I wish the cat said more than Meow。 I loved the scientists I received a free digital ARC from HarperCollins Children’s Books via NetGalley。 This is a graphic novel for ages 8-12。 My son who is 7 loved this because as he said “it has cats, robots, the moon and pizza。” The Princess, the cat and the robot have to save the moon from being eaten by rats with large incisors。 Their trip is full of meeting very ridiculous characters that propel their journey forward to the climatic ending with the rats。 I wish the cat said more than Meow。 I loved the scientists on Earth。My son gave this 10 out of 10 and wants to read the sequel。 I did not find the humor as funny as him, but clearly the target audience is not adults。 There was some complex words with good textual references for young ones wanting to build their language skills。 It is lengthy and it took a couple of days to read, but it completely caught his attention。 。。。more
