Summary

Is there credible proof that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God? In The Case for ChristLee Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune and New York Times bestselling author, retraces his own spiritual journey from atheism to faith and builds a captivating case for Christ's divinity。

In this revised and updated edition of The Case for Christ, Strobel cross-examines a dozen experts with doctorates from schools such as Cambridge, Princeton, and Brandeis, asking hard-hitting questions--and taking a deeper look at the evidence from the fields of science, philosophy, and history。

In his comprehensive investigation, Strobel doesn't shy away from the challenging questions, including:

How reliable is the New Testament?
Does evidence for Jesus exist outside the Bible?
Is Jesus who he said he was?
Is there any reason to believe the resurrection was an actual event?
What does all of the evidence point to--and what does it mean today?
Winner of the Gold Medallion Book Award and twice nominated for the Christian Book of the Year Award, The Case for Christ has been adapted into a major motion picture and has now sold over five million copies worldwide。

This edition includes scores of revisions and additions, including updated material on archaeological and manuscript discoveries, fresh recommendations for further study, and an interview with the author that tells dramatic stories about the book's impact, provides behind-the-scenes information, and responds to critiques of the book by skeptics。

Strobel's thorough examination reads like a captivating, fast-paced novel。 But it's not fiction: it's a riveting quest for the truth about history's most compelling figure。 Discover The Case for Christ today。

I watched this movie in a theater years ago on Good Friday with my family。 The book was sent to me at a time I really needed it and had huge impact。 I had just read the Zealot, and although it did not sway me from my Christian faith it did play into my Gen X tendency toward skepticism。 Especially in the last few years, I felt jaded about institutions and motivations of people in power。 The strength of the data and witness to Christianity was an inspiration and fed my soul。 🙌🏾🧘‍♂️

The arguments in this book seem somehow both flawed and satisfying。 In a way, some sort of innate skepticism prevents me to appreciate it fully。 The only thing we have as evidence for Jesus' miracles and rise from the dead are the Gospels, and kind of only that。 But, simultaneously, Strobel's experts make a decent case that they should count as faithful historical reporting, arguing that it is more documented than a lot of historical events and there was barely any reason to lie about the miracle The arguments in this book seem somehow both flawed and satisfying。 In a way, some sort of innate skepticism prevents me to appreciate it fully。 The only thing we have as evidence for Jesus' miracles and rise from the dead are the Gospels, and kind of only that。 But, simultaneously, Strobel's experts make a decent case that they should count as faithful historical reporting, arguing that it is more documented than a lot of historical events and there was barely any reason to lie about the miracles。 An issue with this book, though, is that Strobel only interviews Christian consrvative thinkers, the other side isn't given any time to speak, which is a bit of an issue。 But I guess you should check it out, if you are interested in understanding why others believe in Christianity, and perhaps you are smarter than me and you'll find some serious logical flaws。 Meanwhile, I'm gonna look up some critiques of this book, maybe there's something meaningful over there。 。。。more

I am blown away! Chapter after chapter, interview after interview, my heart swelled within me。 I finished this book with a smile on my face。 Jesus is real and history backs up his death and resurrection, and the gospels stand up to scrutiny from historians, critics, philosophers, and scholars。 I am a Christian and for the longest time, maybe I had a question here and there about the gospels or Bible, but I never delved into it, I just took it as it is。 However, reading about scholars responding I am blown away! I was a skeptic。 My wife was not。 I was determined to 'prove' to her that the Bible was a lie, it was a mess of contradictions, it didn't make sense。 On my way to get a Bible for free at the chaplain's corner where I was deployed at, I saw this book laying on the table for free。 Picking it up and reading through the back I had to laugh that the circumstances Lee Strobel had were similar to my own。 I put it down looking through other free books of the non-religious variety but I came back to this I was a skeptic。 My wife was not。 I was determined to 'prove' to her that the Bible was a lie, it was a mess of contradictions, it didn't make sense。 On my way to get a Bible for free at the chaplain's corner where I was deployed at, I saw this book laying on the table for free。 Picking it up and reading through the back I had to laugh that the circumstances Lee Strobel had were similar to my own。 I put it down looking through other free books of the non-religious variety but I came back to this one。 It didn't produce a saving faith right then and there, but this book opened the door and took a lot of the doubts that I had and provided answers for me that I never thought could be answered before。 I understand a lot of people have issue with this book because they don't believe。 What it comes down to me is what Lee pointed out in this book that since Jesus was a real person, the gospel accounts are reliable accounts, that means you have to reconcile with what Jesus said and what the resurrection means。 How can you accept that as a real historical event and then move on without any sort of response? This book changed my life, and taught me that faith in Jesus is not to mentally check out。 It is grounded in reality。 。。。more

I think everyone needs to reads this book at least once in their life… as a believer in The Lord Jesus Christ, this just solidified my faith even more and gave me insight into the facts and evidence of what Jesus came to do and did do。 The eyewitness accounts in The Bible are always a wonder to me… as the eyewitness of The Lord still continue today! I haven’t seen Him in bodily form, but I surely know Him and talk to Him daily and have absolute assurance of Who He is… and I am so thankful。 I pra I think everyone needs to reads this book at least once in their life… as a believer in The Lord Jesus Christ, this just solidified my faith even more and gave me insight into the facts and evidence of what Jesus came to do and did do。 The eyewitness accounts in The Bible are always a wonder to me… as the eyewitness of The Lord still continue today! 3。5 starsI saw the movie first so I wanted to read the book。It's funny。。。the movie loses points for being a little melodramatic with the personal stuff and the book loses points for not having any personal stuff。The book is well-written and researched but is a tad dense。 It doesn't help that I had to listen to this in a short time frame so it was a bit of a bombardment of information。 Had I had time to savor the info, I probably would have had a different reaction。 With that said, I absolutely L 3。5 starsI saw the movie first so I wanted to read the book。It's funny。。。the movie loses points for being a little melodramatic with the personal stuff and the book loses points for not having any personal stuff。The book is well-written and researched but is a tad dense。 It doesn't help that I had to listen to this in a short time frame so it was a bit of a bombardment of information。 Had I had time to savor the info, I probably would have had a different reaction。 With that said, I absolutely LOVED the historical investigation into Jesus' life on earth。 I learned so much and had no idea there was so much research and evidence surrounding his human life。 This is a great book for anyone that is seeking spiritually, academically/historically, or scientifically。 I didn't come to this book looking for proof but the book proved to me it's all there。 。。。more

It was a little difficult to follow at the beginning, as I am not a theologian and haven’t studied the Bible as in depth。 Overall though, this book has left me much more confident in my faith。 I would recommend to anyone questioning their faith。

As a student, teacher and lover of history, who was a dubious Christian on the trail of the historical Jesus for the last several years, this book was an absolute page turner for me。 From Strobel's creative legal case-study introductions to the data he generated through his investigative interviews with secular experts and religion scholars, my few lingering doubts concerning the Jesus story have withered due to the significance of the research presented in this sterling book。 For sure, Strobel' As a student, teacher and lover of history, who was a dubious Christian on the trail of the historical Jesus for the last several years, this book was an absolute page turner for me。 From Strobel's creative legal case-study introductions to the data he generated through his investigative interviews with secular experts and religion scholars, my few lingering doubts concerning the Jesus story have withered due to the significance of the research presented in this sterling book。 For sure, Strobel's work has made me a stronger Christian。 。。。more

Very good study about an atheist journalist who decides to investigate and research if Jesus is the Messiah and becomes a Christian。 Does some in depth digging and asks hard questions to theological scholars。 Very thought provoking。

I’m not a history person in any way, but I still really liked this book。 I thought it was really helpful to add to my foundation of faith based on facts, and it makes me really interested in learning more about theology and expanding my own faith。

Incredible book, full of historical events that align with the story of Christ and I really enjoyed listening to it!

Besides being one of the most widely sold books on the topic, the title made me curious about the way in which Strobel would present his case, hence the name。 I found the book comparatively weak to similar Christian apologetics books for the simple reason that Lee appeared deceptive in his biases。 He tried to present himself as a relatively objective juror in the case, but seemed to fold easily at the hand of many base-level arguments。 Each chapter revolves around him questioning various experts Besides being one of the most widely sold books on the topic, the title made me curious about the way in which Strobel would present his case, hence the name。 I found the book comparatively weak to similar Christian apologetics books for the simple reason that Lee appeared deceptive in his biases。 He tried to present himself as a relatively objective juror in the case, but seemed to fold easily at the hand of many base-level arguments。 Each chapter revolves around him questioning various experts on aspects of the gospel story。 Mostly standard arguments presented in a relatively interesting way。 Overall, I enjoyed the book mildly in terms of entertainment value but felt there was much more he should have done to present his case。 。。。more

Lee Strobel brings forth about a dozen interviews with specialists (historians, archaelogists, theologists, psychologists, etc。) to answer one fundamental question for both believers in the Christian faith and people interested in Christianity: is Jesus really the son of God?
