Tired plotI usually love these books, but this one disappointed。 Little more than a series of poor/very unwise decisions, as always a !ot of screwing and gunplay, which usually at least makes sense within the storyline。 Feel like this one was phoned in。

I enjoyed this a bit more than the last one。 Not too sure of Jenna though。 Another go from one place to another。

I’ve been reading Stone Barrington novels my whole life or so it seems and I really want to give this a rave review but I can’t。 It is better than the last one and pretty typical for a Mr。 Woods novel these days。 Stone has way too much money and spends his time avoiding bullets between bouts in bed with a variety of beautiful, wealthy women。 The woman count isn’t as high as in a typical Stone novel, bullets do fly and we get a short visit with the incomparable Ed Rawls, which was true highlight I’ve been reading Stone Barrington novels my whole life or so it seems and I really want to give this a rave review but I can’t。 It is better than the last one and pretty typical for a Mr。 Woods novel these days。 Stone has way too much money and spends his time avoiding bullets between bouts in bed with a variety of beautiful, wealthy women。 The woman count isn’t as high as in a typical Stone novel, bullets do fly and we get a short visit with the incomparable Ed Rawls, which was true highlight of the novel。 If you’re looking for an update on Stone’s lifestyles of the rich and famous life this book is for you。 If you’re looking for an engaging read, skip it。 。。。more

What can I say about #61 of a Stone Barrington novel? Young damsel in distress scorned by a lover who then becomes the love interest of Barrington。 Lots of guns, ammunition, private boats, private jets, multiple homes。 Dino a reoccurring character who is now big on NYPD。 Steak and goose dinner at high end NYC restaurants。 Surprised no mention of pandemic。 I gave it a 3 but more like 2。5。 I always say, Stuart Wood and James Patterson are the Danielle Steele of mystery。 Not high literature that’s What can I say about #61 of a Stone Barrington novel? Fans of Stone Barrington (count me in) know that each installment in this long running series will see Stone and his buddies, especially Dino Bachetti, the Commissioner of the NYPD, eating, drinking, and off on adventures to thwart bad guys while romancing beautiful women。 This is no exception。 Stone agrees to transport an important witness to his estate in the UK without knowing who it is。 Turns out, it's Jenna Jacoby, whose ex-husband Senator Wallace Slade wants her dead so that she can't test Fans of Stone Barrington (count me in) know that each installment in this long running series will see Stone and his buddies, especially Dino Bachetti, the Commissioner of the NYPD, eating, drinking, and off on adventures to thwart bad guys while romancing beautiful women。 This is no exception。 Stone agrees to transport an important witness to his estate in the UK without knowing who it is。 Turns out, it's Jenna Jacoby, whose ex-husband Senator Wallace Slade wants her dead so that she can't testify about his connections to- wait for it- Russia。 He's sent Harley, an evil man。 after her, which means that Stone has a problem on his hands。 Luckily, Stone has a private plane and multiple houses so they can hopscotch their way from Harley but only for so long。 Know that Jenna is more than a little annoying at first but, Stone being Stone, there's steam in the offing。 And, when things go bad, one of his buddies will step up。 Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC。 Probably not a good standalone but those who have followed Stone's adventures know the drill and will enjoy this one。 。。。more

As is often the case, the book opens with Stone Barrington and best friend/NYPD Commissioner Dino Bacchetti having dinner at a favorite restaurant。 They are joined by Lance Cabot, CIA Director, and assistant who ask Stone to help keep a witness (Jenna Jacoby) safe until she can testify before a grand jury about her recently divorced husband, Senator Wallace Slade of Texas。 They first fly to Stone’s English countryside home but are quickly followed by Slade’s henchman, Harley Quince。 They are for As is often the case, the book opens with Stone Barrington and best friend/NYPD Commissioner Dino Bacchetti having dinner at a favorite restaurant。 They are joined by Lance Cabot, CIA Director, and assistant who ask Stone to help keep a witness (Jenna Jacoby) safe until she can testify before a grand jury about her recently divorced husband, Senator Wallace Slade of Texas。 They first fly to Stone’s English countryside home but are quickly followed by Slade’s henchman, Harley Quince。 They are forced to move to other homes owned by Stone, but are always followed, with Slade and Quince getting angrier and angrier。 This is the 61st (!) book in the Stone Barrington series (with another already announced for summer 2022) and it is very typical of most of those in the series - Stone meeting and aiding a beautiful woman (with plenty of escapades along the way), a villainous opponent, and assistance from many friends and associates that appear in earlier books。 I have tended to rate these books a little higher as they are fun, quick reads but this one just did not measure up。 For probably 80% of the book, it was as expected and then it seemed that Woods had to finish within a prescribed page limit and the ending, while probably expected, was just plain rushed。 I thank G。P。 Putnam’s Sons and Edelweiss for the ARC of this novel。 。。。more

I have read all of the Stone Barrington books。 This one has Stone and Dino being interrupted by Lance Cabot at dinner。 Lance needs a favor。 A safe house for a congressional witness。 And right now, if you please。Of course, Stone hops in a plane with a beautiful former model who is about to be divorced from a Texas senator。 A real peach of a guy。 The only problem is this witness pretty much does what she wants。 As we follow them to almost all of the homes Stone owns, they of course tumble into bed I have read all of the Stone Barrington books。 This one has Stone and Dino being interrupted by Lance Cabot at dinner。 Lance needs a favor。 A safe house for a congressional witness。 And right now, if you please。Of course, Stone hops in a plane with a beautiful former model who is about to be divorced from a Texas senator。 A real peach of a guy。 The only problem is this witness pretty much does what she wants。 As we follow them to almost all of the homes Stone owns, they of course tumble into bed, and the bad guys come and beat him up and Joan saves the day。Of all of the books in this series, I would say this was my least favorite。 Very shallow。 More like a fun romp through the lives of the rich and messy。Maybe we need a new hero。NetGalley/ March 22, 2022 G。P。 Putnam-Ballentine 。。。more

I've been reading this series since its debut but have missed several over the last few years。 I have no idea how he got so wealth but I'm glad he did! It makes for a no holds barred ability to do what needs to be done。 This could be been a boring plot in someone else's hands but this author's ability to pull you in at the first page is his magic。 Some characters we've seen before and others are new to the universe but the relations are all 3 dimensional。。。and often funny in the oh so sarcastic I've been reading this series since its debut but have missed several over the last few years。 I have no idea how he got so wealth but I'm glad he did! That along with the surprise ending made this an enjoyable read。 I think I’ll definitely check out the other books of this series。 。。。more

Safe House was a really fun read。 I have read all the Stone Barrington series。 The story starts with Stone and his friend Dino Bachetti, NY police commissioner having dinner at Patroon's when Lance Cabot, Director of Central Intelligence, sits down at their table and tells Stone he is being recalled into active duty to take someone in his plane to his house in England as a safe house the next day。 Stone invites Dino and his wife, Viv to join him。 Viv is on another assignment but will join them l Safe House was a really fun read。 I have read all the Stone Barrington series。 The story starts with Stone and his friend Dino Bachetti, NY police commissioner having dinner at Patroon's when Lance Cabot, Director of Central Intelligence, sits down at their table and tells Stone he is being recalled into active duty to take someone in his plane to his house in England as a safe house the next day。 Stone invites Dino and his wife, Viv to join him。 Viv is on another assignment but will join them later, When they are out of the NY limits they met their passenger, Jenna Jacoby, wife of U。S。 Senator Wallace Slade who has had two attempts on her life。 trying to divorce him and later testifies at his hearing。 This is where the story takes off with all the supporting characters adding all the fun in the story。 Her husband, Wallace is very angry and with his employee, Harley Guince, his enforcer, follows Stone and Jenna to England, Maine, Connecticut and New York to kill both of them。 The author takes the reader on a comical adventure and a surprising ending。 I had many laughs at some of the situations。 I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next in this series。Thank you NetGalley and G。P。 Putnam's Sons for this ARC。t 。。。more

Reading a Stone Barrington novel by Stuart Woods is like wrapping up in a warm blanket and getting comfortable。 You pretty much know what to expect。 It’s just a matter of engaging with the new, and old, characters in the current story。 In this current book, Stone and his group of friends spend quite a bit of time gallivanting around and trying to avoid the death of a witness。 As a side note, I found her to be a spoiled brat and pretty much unlikeable, which is, I guess, a good thing。 Lol。 Having Reading a Stone Barrington novel by Stuart Woods is like wrapping up in a warm blanket and getting comfortable。 You pretty much know what to expect。 It’s just a matter of engaging with the new, and old, characters in the current story。 In this current book, Stone and his group of friends spend quite a bit of time gallivanting around and trying to avoid the death of a witness。 As a side note, I found her to be a spoiled brat and pretty much unlikeable, which is, I guess, a good thing。 Lol。 Having said that, the running from place to place became a bit tedious after a bit, but I did enjoy the premise behind the storyline。 Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book。 And as with all of the Barrington novels, I am eagerly awaiting the next one in line。 。。。more

Back with Barrington and his possee, this is more a tour of the various manses than a plotted novel。 The tour begins with Stone being asked to provide a safe house for a senator’s estranged wife who must testify against him。 Humorously, the blustering, crazed politician holds a striking resemblance to some of our Texas politicos。 I always enjoy my trip with Stone and friends, but I do prefer some of the better plotted Barrington novels。 I found this one too superficial。 Thank you Netgalley for t Back with Barrington and his possee, this is more a tour of the various manses than a plotted novel。 The tour begins with Stone being asked to provide a safe house for a senator’s estranged wife who must testify against him。 Humorously, the blustering, crazed politician holds a striking resemblance to some of our Texas politicos。 I always enjoy my trip with Stone and friends, but I do prefer some of the better plotted Barrington novels。 I found this one too superficial。 Thank you Netgalley for this ARC in return for an honest review。 。。。more
