Summary

Teagan Firestone has always been the dutiful daughter, especially since her mom died。 But as her father finally begins to move on, it’s her turn to do the same。 Her destination: Pearl Lake, a close-knit community with an entrepreneurial spirit and secrets of its own。

One of them is Aaron Saunders, who dropped out of college to work construction for Pearl Lake’s upper class。 He’s a mystery and has a playboy reputation—that is, until he meets Teagan。 Neither of them is looking for love, but in a town this small, it’s hard not to let your heart get involved。

As their romance heats up, Aaron’s elusive past comes to light and Teagan is there for him, bringing them even closer together。 But when Teagan is forced to face her own demons, her inability to accept the support of friends and family threatens the life she’s worked so hard to build。

Can Aaron love her, even when she can’t love herself?

Teagan has been living with her father and recently helping restructure their lives financially。 When her fathers girlfriends moved in she moves in to her brothers to start to figure out her life。 Aaron work in construction in Pearl Lake and has a rep as a playboy。 The two have a rocky start even if there is a spark。 I felt the chemistry between these two and I really loved the story。 It was a fun romantic read and I am loving all the characters not just the main ones。 Definitely another 5 star Teagan has been living with her father and recently helping restructure their lives financially。 When her fathers girlfriends moved in she moves in to her brothers to start to figure out her life。 Aaron work in construction in Pearl Lake and has a rep as a playboy。 The two have a rocky start even if there is a spark。 I felt the chemistry between these two and I really loved the story。 It was a fun romantic read and I am loving all the characters not just the main ones。 Definitely another 5 star from this author。 。。。more

Mixed feelings review alert! I loved Aaron。 I love how much he loves, and although sometimes I wanted to shake him and make him talk, I understood where he was coming from。 I especially loved that he was always there for Teagan。 I liked Teagan and I sympathized with her a lot。 I liked how she was determined to find herself。 And I like that she worked hard on all of her projects。 I liked how seeing how these two got to know each other and seeing how their relationship progressed。 I loved how both Mixed feelings review alert! Past Hovers In The Background, But It Cannot Stay Hidden Forever。 And As Teagan Begins Life Anew In Lakeside, Nobody Anticipates The Direction Her Journey Will Take Her。 Their Story Takes A Serious Spin In Spite Of Its Sweet & Steamy Start。ABOUT THE LAKESIDE SERIES:This is book two in the Lakeside series of interconnected standalones。 The series revolves around Pearl Lake, a small town a few hours from Chicago, not too far from Lake Geneva。 The town has two sides。 One side houses the locals and the other houses the McMansions owned by the elite out-of-towners。 The locals are protective of their town and don’t necessarily take well to the privileged big-city visitors。 Those folks can be easily spotted by their attire。 The locals are happy in jeans and t-shirts, while the out-of-towners glam it up even when trying to come across as casual。Book one, Love Next Door, is Donovan “Van” Firestone and Dillion Stitch’s story。 Van inherits his beloved grandmother’s cottage on the lake and decides to make it home, working remotely for his architectural firm。 Dillion returns home to help out with the family construction business, Footprint Construction。 Her house is next door to Van’s, and things begin to heat up when they meet。This is book two, Love on the Lake。 It is Aaron Saunders and Teagan Firestone’s story。 IN THIS BOOK:This book opens in late April, several months after the couple briefly meets。 Teagan Firestone, twenty-six, isn’t just a pretty face。 She is great with people and a quick learner, but she has trouble saying ‘no。’ She shouldn’t still be living at home at her age, but she’s had a rocky year。 Her younger brother Patrick is away in prison now, but she tries to be a good sister in spite of it all。 As if that weren’t enough, her father’s lavish lifestyle had finally caught up with him after years of living beyond his means。 Teagan had been raised in privilege and hadn’t a clue it was all a façade。 It had been her father’s odd way of grieving the loss of her mother, but once it was discovered, Teagan had helped him downsize and get him back on track。 When her engagement to Troy fell through, she ended up moving in with her father at his request。 She hated the thought of him being all alone – he hadn’t dated since her mother’s death almost two decades ago。 With her family’s fall from grace, Teagan had learned who her real friends were – and she had none。 But she has her family and her job。 She works as her father’s secretary。 It is a job she fell into but not necessarily the job of her dreams。 She had gone to college and double majored in business administration and public relations, and her father had then encouraged her to take the job at Smith Financial where he works as CFO。 Not certain what she really wanted to do with her life, she took the job to please her father。 But the last year has been one of self-discovery。 She has learned to do laundry and cook for herself, things she had never had to do before。 And she recognizes that she needs to make even more changes in her life。 She has spent so much of her energy selflessly pleasing others that she no longer knows who she is or what she wants。 Her anxiety over the last year has been a challenge, so getting away from Chicago and the memories sounds like a good idea。 When her father begins dating at long last, and she finds herself no longer needed, she knows the time has finally come and her excuses have run out。 Teagan heads to visit her brother Van and his fiancée Dillion for the weekend, but when he agrees to let her stay in his newly finished garage apartment, her plan falls into place。 Teagan begins to settle in and explore the new town and its possibilities。 Aaron Saunders, twenty-seven, is a compulsive flirt and local bad boy。 He returned home midway through his senior year of college。 Pearl Lake had always been home to him。 He was raised by a single mom and hadn’t known his father。 He had earned a scholarship to Notre Dame and played football there, and he was one semester away from a degree in structural engineering, but it hadn’t worked out。 He never talks about it, and the locals consider him and his time away a bit of a mystery。 He is an enigma。 He works for the Stitches at Footprint Construction。 He and Billy Stitch had been good friends in high school, and Dillion is like a big sister to him, so the job was his for the asking。 He never touts his education, content instead to sit back and perform physical labor, doing a variety of jobs。 He enjoys working with his hands。 The local girls all know Aaron’s game, and despite his incessant flirting, they know it is the ladies on the other side of the lake that keep him busy。 Aaron isn’t into relationships, so he prefers it that way。 The well-to-do women use him as their boy toy, and in return, he doesn’t need to worry about them getting any wrong ideas。 That had all worked out fine and dandy until last summer, and now those women are in his past。 When Van’s little sister shows up for the weekend, she reminds him of the fancy women he’d sworn off, but he also noted a sad tone and vulnerability that spoke to him, matching his own darkness。 So when she ends up staying in town and shattering his first impression of her, he ends up taking another look。 Teagan soon occupies all his thoughts, but not in a good way。 All his smooth lines and confidence go out the door when she is present, and he finds himself lost in thought。 She has a unique ability to push his buttons, and when she pushes too hard, there is no more holding back how he feels。 Aaron and Teagan briefly met in book one, and it started out awkwardly。 When they come face to face a second time, it doesn’t go very well。 Aaron is loved by all the locals, and Teagan cannot understand why he treats her so badly。 She witnesses his flirting first-hand, and even though she knows she shouldn’t care, she is dying to know what she did to make him dislike her so much。 Their animosity for one another soon transforms into steamy chemistry, and a strange sort of unspoken relationship evolves。 But Aaron doesn’t do relationships, and there are secrets he isn’t willing to share。 He is happy to hang out and have a good time, but beyond that and work, he keeps everyone in Pearl Lake at a distance。Teagan has her own issues as she searches her soul for a direction in which to take her life。 She channels her energy into trying out lots of things, hoping to stumble upon a career and purpose。 But Teagan’s insomnia and anxiety can catch up with her if she isn’t careful, and the emotional year she has had has made her especially vulnerable。 Her people-pleasing ways soon make her a local favorite, but in her quest to find her place in town, she begins to lose sight of what brought her there to begin with。 Her relationship with Aaron is a rocky one。 She knows his reputation。 Aaron hasn’t tried to put a label on whatever it is they are doing, so she is careful not to make any presumptions。 Even so, his hot and cold treatment only adds to her pressures。 Their sweet but heartfelt story soon becomes very serious。 They have some highs and some devastating lows, but they eventually find a happy ending。 Wow! Aaron and Teagan’s story is a great addition to the Lakeside series。 The mystery surrounding Aaron’s past hovers in the background, but it cannot stay hidden forever。 And as Teagan begins life anew in Lakeside, nobody anticipates the direction her journey will take her。 Teagan wasn’t looking for love, and the move wasn’t necessarily permanent。 Getting away from Chicago after her family’s downfall and her own heartbreak just seemed like a great idea。 It was supposed to give her a fresh perspective, to get her away from the painful memories, but she begins to envision the possibility of settling down there, and maybe a happy ending。Teagan is selfless to a fault, and getting away from her father, too, is important。 She needs that space to rediscover herself, to figure out her likes and dislikes。 When Danielle comes into the picture, and her father seems to be finally moving on, there is nothing holding her back。 Even when things are fuzzy with Aaron, Teagan tries to keep in mind the fact that she needs her own identity。 That said, she has a habit of falling hard and fast, and this is no exception。 Teagan’s confidence is surprising。 I might have expected her anxiety to cause her to be more hesitant, but she is rather bold at times。 Still, the insecurities that have always plagued her don’t just go away。 She strives for perfection and is non-stop energy in spite of her insomnia。 The latter half of the story veers from Aaron and Teagan’s romance and tackles the darkness that holds them both hostage。 Teagan falls into a pattern of complacency that is sadly all too common, and her story is surprisingly and painstakingly realistic。 Aaron’s modus operandi had taken a hit last summer when he gave up the women living in the McMansions across the lake。 He had been doing alright until Teagan came along, but he knows he cannot afford the distraction。 He tries in vain to keep things casual。 With her, he finds himself wanting things he cannot have。 If he wants Teagan in his life, however, he will need to finally face his darkness。 Grab the tissues! Aaron and Teagan’s romance is raw and very real。 Each masks a darkness, carefully hiding their vulnerability from the outside world。 Their story takes a serious spin in spite of its sweet and steamy start。 It feels a little different in the latter half。 Some may not like the direction it goes – not because it is bad, but because it has a slightly different vibe。 It is well-written。 The plot is fairly simple, but the layers and background are slow to unfold。 It merits mention that realistically Aaron’s secret should not have lasted in that town – because he doesn’t always keep it well hidden。 The story is character-driven。 The characters are carefully crafted and three-dimensional。 They are flawed, and their stories pull you in。 The story is written in first person。 The POV is largely in Teagan’s POV, but it alternates with Aaron’s POV。 I rate this book 4。5 stars。I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

Awww I love this book so much! The author took this book to a much deeper level than I was expecting and I really enjoyed that。 I enjoyed the character and the growth they went through。 It did lack a little teenie tiny bit with the romance。 I did want more in that department。 Both characters had some demons to overcome but it was an enjoyable and rewarding story by the end。

Couldn’t wait for this to come out after reading Teagans brothers book。 She is needing to get out of her dads house to live on her own。 Starting in Peral Lake is the perfect small town conspired to the big city she’s used to。 Aaron is helping to finish the apartment she is living in and has a reputation with the ladies。 But there is definitely more to him than being shirtless when working。 This is a great read for a small town romance。

This is book #2 in the Lakeside series where we head back to Pearl Lake。 I did read book 1 but it was so long ago I felt like I was forgetting certain details and I did not feel that things were recapped enough in this book。 I would have preferred to read them back to back because of that。Teagan is Van’s sister from the previous story and Aaron does work for them。 Teagan and Aaron had a very special story。 When they first meet, Teagan assumes that Aaron does not like her because of how he acts t This is book #2 in the Lakeside series where we head back to Pearl Lake。 I did read book 1 but it was so long ago I felt like I was forgetting certain details and I did not feel that things were recapped enough in this book。 I would have preferred to read them back to back because of that。Teagan is Van’s sister from the previous story and Aaron does work for them。 Teagan and Aaron had a very special story。 When they first meet, Teagan assumes that Aaron does not like her because of how he acts toward her, but it turns out it is because he does like her。 Aaron had his own backstory that was discussed more towards the beginning of the book, which involved previous girls he used to sleep with and the family that he has kept secret。 Teagan’s story became much more prominent towards the end of the book。 Teagan deals with anxiety and the need to be perfect and her inability to say no。 I love how perfect Teagan and Aaron were together。 They both carry a lot of weight on their shoulders but they encourage each other to let it go。 When things become troubled, I love that Aaron never left Teagan’s side, and when he had no choice but to physically be away from her, he was there for emotionally。 What a beautiful love story。 。。。more

To say I love Helena Hunting’s books is an understatement; I’m obsessed with her new series。 Love on the Lake was so sweet and heartbreaking at the same time。 Teagan is always thinking of others, has finally quit her job working for her father and has decided to try new jobs to see what her niche is。Aaron is very abrupt and short with Teagan in the beginning because she reminds him of the Mcmasion wives from the other side of the lake。 He knows she isn’t staying long in Pearl Lake and doesn’t wa To say I love Helena Hunting’s books is an understatement; I’m obsessed with her new series。 Love on the Lake was so sweet and heartbreaking at the same time。 Teagan is always thinking of others, has finally quit her job working for her father and has decided to try new jobs to see what her niche is。Aaron is very abrupt and short with Teagan in the beginning because she reminds him of the Mcmasion wives from the other side of the lake。 He knows she isn’t staying long in Pearl Lake and doesn’t want to try to get to know her, until she has taken up a couple of jobs, then he starts warming up to her。With the huge secret Aaron has been hiding for a very long time and Teagan taking medication to help her anxiety and insomnia, they both have to overcome their demons and let go in order to move forward。 Once they open up to one another, their relationship progresses quickly。 I loved the interactions between Aaron and Teagan and that Aaron really wanted to help her。 He wasn’t shy about kissing her in public to cement their relationship and was there to support her, even when she didn’t want his help。Helena always has wonderful characters and a special way of drawing you into her stories。 They are always books that I look forward to reading because of how swept away I get。 。。。more

This was good, although being a year out from reading the first in the series, some of the details near the beginning were a bit fuzzy。 Though it is a stand alone romance, there is a lot of overlap from book one that I would suggest reading it in order。 I was so happy Teagan got her love story and fell in love with this small town。 Helena created two very broken characters that grew together and cared for one another deeply。。。 plus a sexy meet cute scene。 Helena fans will enjoy this sweet, emot This was good, although being a year out from reading the first in the series, some of the details near the beginning were a bit fuzzy。 Though it is a stand alone romance, there is a lot of overlap from book one that I would suggest reading it in order。 I was so happy Teagan got her love story and fell in love with this small town。 Helena created two very broken characters that grew together and cared for one another deeply。。。 plus a sexy meet cute scene。 Helena fans will enjoy this sweet, emotional romance! 。。。more

Oh, this book really hit me in the feels! Teagan and Aaron both have issues, which Helena Hunting addresses with such care and compassion you know she's really done her research。 I honestly loved this book so much, it had the perfect mix of humour, angst and steam! As of 3/14/22 this is my top read of 2022 so far。 I could not put this book down and I fell in love with the characters right away (well I actually fell in love with them from the previous book) I knew that their story was going to be epic and I was not disappointed。 Every time I think that this author cannot surprise me again she does it in a way that leaves me speechless。 I had so many emotions during this book and that is the reason I could not put it down。 I am constantly amazed when I read As of 3/14/22 this is my top read of 2022 so far。 I could not put this book down and I fell in love with the characters right away (well I actually fell in love with them from the previous book) I knew that their story was going to be epic and I was not disappointed。 Every time I think that this author cannot surprise me again she does it in a way that leaves me speechless。 I had so many emotions during this book and that is the reason I could not put it down。 I am constantly amazed when I read books that the stories and the plot twists are so different that most of the time the authors can do something in a book I did not see coming。 It happens in this book multiple times and I love every twist and turn。 Teagan and Aaron briefly met in the first Lakeside book but when I read that book I knew that they were going to be something to pay attention to。 This book felt very emotional for me and I am sure it took a lot out of this author to write the emotional scenes。 You can tell the author loves these characters because of everything that they have been through, you can see it in her writing and it makes you fall in love with the characters even more。 When you as a reader can emotionally connect with the characters then I believe that the author has done her job。 Highly recommend this book。 In fact you should start with Love Next Door (Book #1) and then move on to this book, I think you will appreciate the characters and the story more。 。。。more

I have fallen so hard for these two amazing characters! The depth of the story, their back story, their struggles, their victories。。。 I am there for all of it。 This new Lakeside series is set in the same universe as the Pucked series and I am so there for that! Helena Hunting writes male main characters who certainly have flaws but who put in the work to over come them and Aaron is no different。 This burly, smart, dedicated。。。 oh so dedicated man is sitting on a secret。。。 and you will want to ho I have fallen so hard for these two amazing characters!
