Eira is back, baby! Reading this book was an emotional roller coaster! There is so much grief and pain in the beginning it was like ice lodged in my chest。 But it gets better。 Eira faces constant danger and challenges as she stumbles her way through a world of political intrigue and spy craft。 There is a ton of action, a nice amount of romance, and a lot of trauma (but rape free for my cw lovers)。 We actually don’t get any of the first tournament in this book because it’s all about the lead up—i Eira is back, baby! Reading this book was an emotional roller coaster! There is so much grief and pain in the beginning it was like ice lodged in my chest。 But it gets better。 Eira faces constant danger and challenges as she stumbles her way through a world of political intrigue and spy craft。 There is a ton of action, a nice amount of romance, and a lot of trauma (but rape free for my cw lovers)。 We actually don’t get any of the first tournament in this book because it’s all about the lead up—including looking for the recently escaped Ferro。 The city is on lockdown when they arrive, hoping to catch him。 Several new tests face Eira as she tries to become a Shadow, a spy out to stop the group of fanatics Ferro works with or possibly leads。 She struggles with who she can trust but actually starts trusting more people—only to discover that that trust might not be earned。 So determined to reject Cullen’s attraction to her (and hers to him) she ends up pushing everyone away until it is no longer sustainable。 She hardens herself, hones her magic, but fights to feel—to reject the numbness she previously embraced。 She discovers new allies, acquires more secrets, and searches for more answers。 This book was as much about self discovery as it was finding answers to avenge her brother。When I think of this book I think of the constant tension I felt reading it。 There was so much action and suspense! The emotional toll was enormous。 My jaw may never be the same after all the clenching 😂 There is romance in this book appropriate for upper ya。 I was all for it and yet also was screaming。 I’ll leave it at that。 Also shout out to Elise Kova for her inclusion of a blind character (admittedly magical) and an ace character (who loves romance, makes me think of one of my besties)。 Some things I didn’t like:-It honestly felt like the Court of Shadows knew nothing and yet were convinced they were infallible。 I was just gobsmacked by their incompetence。 -Eira really needs to just confront a dude。 Like, I don’t know how she can be all shocked pikachu face about certain revelations。 I was like 90% in, shouting at her that if she’s that observant about everything else, she can’t be a twit about her own relationships。 Does not compute。-I’m a little annoyed we didn’t get a tournament-I’m also a little annoyed she didn’t see most things coming。 That being said, Elise Kova is maybe too good at foreshadowing because I felt like the person screaming at the screen in a horror movie for a good chunk of this。-Cullen needs to grow a spine when it comes to his dad。 Frankly hope his dad gets killed off because he is annoying af — also freely admit I was half convinced that his dad is secretly working with the enemy because of the tailoring scene。 Would be okay with him being a traitorThings I loved:-the magic was badass and I want to see more of it and everyone’s powers-I am SO FREAKING CURIOUS ABOUT ADELA and I seriously will be disappointed if we don’t get some pirate queen in one of these books。 Also I want to know who her parents really are。 -The more dickish the draconi, the more I wanted to know about them。 I’m ready for book 3 -Romance。 I refuse to say more。 But also want to put this in the dislike column。 Elise, you know what you did。 -the royals were such intriguing characters that I want more everything with them in it。 They make me pumped for book 3-Eira’s growth。 She is going through so much, has already been through so much, and she is learning from it all! I’m so glad she’s not just being a doormat like a lot of book 1 but actually talking back。 Like I will take jaded Eira over book 1 Eira every day of the week。 She’s been working out and I’m ready for her to flex her bitch slapping hand!!! 。。。more

This book was one of my most anticipated and I cant believe I completed this。。In the previous book Eira finally reaches where she always dreamed of going and the games seemed to be more deadly as the story unfolds。With Secret societies, powerful sorcerers, cunning politicians and court of shadows the fate of the nation seems to be in great danger。Now the question is can they all make it out alive??Eira grows up to be more stronger and fierce from the lonely timid child。The story is twisted enough This book was one of my most anticipated and I cant believe I completed this。。In the previous book Eira finally reaches where she always dreamed of going and the games seemed to be more deadly as the story unfolds。With Secret societies, powerful sorcerers, cunning politicians and court of shadows the fate of the nation seems to be in great danger。Now the question is can they all make it out alive??Eira grows up to be more stronger and fierce from the lonely timid child。The story is twisted enough with mindblowing suspense, action and romance。 Compared to the first book romance is given more focus and it makes the story more interesting。Elise has weaved such an intricate world with enough action, suspense and romance and the end result is magical!!But I truely hated that Cliffhanger。。Cant wait to read the next book。 。。。more

4/5This was a nice sequel。 It let us see the development of the MC, Eira。 I loved being able to come back into the world that Elisa Kova has created! Eira annoyed me a little bit more this go around, I’m not going to lie, BUT I liked to see her grow into herself and be a little bit more courageous。 I enjoyed watching her with the other competitors (as well as when she was doing her sneaking around)。 It was nice to see her become close with them and consider them friends。 I wish there was more in 4/5This was a nice sequel。 It let us see the development of the MC, Eira。 I loved being able to come back into the world that Elisa Kova has created! Elise Kova has done it again。We continue Eira’s journey where we left off, where we meet new characters and reunite with existing ones alike in Meru。 The overall character development so far has been great, and I’ve loved watching Eira grow! The plot in this book was a lot more focused on politics and working from the shadows to make sure nothing bad happens。 It was very interesting as it was quite different from the first book。 it was expected of course, since Eira was coming to avenge Marcus being killed by Ferro。 I did really enjoy the “scheming” and trying to find Ferro and more information about him。 I was a really big fan of Eira and she grew quite a lot once again。 I had a feeling she was set back a bit in her growth thanks to the events at the end of book one, but she really overcame that。 I did find it a bit of a shame her curiosity wasn’t as potent in this book。 she didn’t seem so naïve and way more aware of what her actions can cause and how it can affect those around her, which was a nice change。 The twist around 1/3 in really took me by surprise and it was super intense as well。 It was such a turn of events and turn of atmosphere, but it really fitted well into the story and I can understand how it was necessary to happen。 It does make you very much aware of the depth of the plot and the dangers of it as well, which was really cool actually。 The romance was a bit more potent in this book, and what I didn’t like about it in the third wasn’t happening in this book, that being said the sort of love triangle。 It still didn’t take a place up front, but the relationship and love Eira has for other does drive her very much in this book。 I love how different relationships are shown, romantic and non-romantic, and how they play a role in the story。 So, I wasn’t aware that this series would be more than two books long, so imagine my surprise when so many things weren’t solved and so little pages were left… on the other hand, it made the ending a bit sweeter and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Eira!Overall, I really enjoyed this book, though not as much as the first。 I am very curious to see what will happen in the future and can’t wait for the third book to come! (Even though hardly anything is currently known about it haha) 。。。more

The magic continues in book 2!I will forever be a fan of the way Elise Kova writes her worlds and magic systems。 Elemental is one of my FAVOURITE magic systems ever, but very few authors can craft it beautifully。 Kova also introduces three other kingdoms and their magic systems in this second book, and I never had any issue grappling with the intricacies。 I am always fascinated to learn more about Kova’s worlds and she has a true talent for spinning political systems and layering her plot。 A lot The magic continues in book 2!I will forever be a fan of the way Elise Kova writes her worlds and magic systems。 Elemental is one of my FAVOURITE magic systems ever, but very few authors can craft it beautifully。 Kova also introduces three other kingdoms and their magic systems in this second book, and I never had any issue grappling with the intricacies。 I am always fascinated to learn more about Kova’s worlds and she has a true talent for spinning political systems and layering her plot。 A lot goes down plot wise in this second book, and i was really excited to pick up right where book one ended。 We got a lot of our questions answered, but new ones also arose! I don’t want to give anything away but I enjoyed learning about the Court of Shadows。 Kova’s strong suit is always in her female main characters and really fleshing them out。 Eira is a headstrong female, but she is also grappling with the trauma she experienced at the end of book one。 I really appreciated that Kova didn’t just gloss over that and showed how it affected not only her, but also her friendships and relationships。 How her desire for revenge ended up clouding her judgement and led to rash decisions。 However, Eira is still as smart as ever and i loved watching her mind piece together all the clues。 The main downfall of this novel was actually the romance。 While I adored it in book one…it fell flat here。 We dipped quickly into Insta-Love even though they rarely interacted。 There was also a plot development at the end that I saw coming from a mile away and it just left everything sour because it made it seem like all the interactions prior were forced for the purpose of this conflict。 I really hope we get to see a return to the romance i i finally adored in the next instalment。 I am SO intrigued to see where book 3 leads, especially because i have been dying for the tournament!!!! Overall, I highly recommend this series—especially if you love learning about magic systems!*i read an ARC 。。。more

Here we are again, back in the Air Awakens world。 Anyone who knows me is aware that the original series is one of my favorites of all time。 Then Elise brought us back into this world with Vortex Visions set in the future。 Now we are exploring all new adventures & characters on The Dark Isle & Meru in A Trial of Sorcerers。 A Hunt of Shadows is book 2 in Trial of Sorcerers series and continues Eira story as she and the 3 other Solaris champions had to Meru to compete in the Tournament of Five Kin Here we are again, back in the Air Awakens world。 Anyone who knows me is aware that the original series is one of my favorites of all time。 Then Elise brought us back into this world with Vortex Visions set in the future。 Now we are exploring all new adventures & characters on The Dark Isle & Meru in A Trial of Sorcerers。 A Hunt of Shadows is book 2 in Trial of Sorcerers series and continues Eira story as she and the 3 other Solaris champions had to Meru to compete in the Tournament of Five Kingdoms。One of my favorite aspects of Elise as a writer is she writes strong female characters who are on the verge of understanding their potential。 They are somehow blocked or hindered in their growth to be "their best self" and in her stories we follow their adventures in self discovery。 Which we definitely see in this book。 I think what I really like about Eira for this series is she feels emotionally/mentally younger than Vhalla and Vi were in the previous AA series。 For me it means more opportunities to explore herself and therfore mess up。 She does things that as a reader we may see leading to problems & might annoy us but if you keep in mind how unsure this girl is with everything around her these choices can make sense。 A few reviews mention lack of romance, well I think it's because Eira isn't at the point were she capable of it。 The groundwork is being planted for it in this book but it's not ready to bloom yet。 Exploring Meru and all the different characters over there it's really exciting in this book。 We're getting a more detailed feel of the city of Risen and more insight into their history。 I'm happy with how this book played out, i felt like it was a lot about getting Eira in the right mental state in terms of her feelings and her reality。 She had so many conflicting goals and perceptions & they needed clarification。 With the ending of this book I felt She finally was in a headspace to understand her priorities & learn from her rash actions。 Book 3 feels set up for a proper adventure!*I recieved this as an ARC; but it did not impact how i reviewed it。 。。。more

I'm so happy I was able to get an early copy of this book。 I loved the first one and was so interested to keep going。 One of my favorite things in the first book were the trials which were obviously not present in this book because they had ended in the first one。 So I did rate this one half a star less than the first one, but it was a really strong 4 star, 4。25 if I could do that!I really loved getting to know these characters more。 I really like Eira as a character。 She is not perfect and she I'm so happy I was able to get an early copy of this book。 I loved the first one and was so interested to keep going。 One of my favorite things in the first book were the trials which were obviously not present in this book because they had ended in the first one。 So I did rate this one half a star less than the first one, but it was a really strong 4 star, 4。25 if I could do that!I really loved getting to know these characters more。 I really like Eira as a character。 She is not perfect and she is struggling with things that happened in the first book as well as things the start happening in this book。 The side characters were fantastic as well。 Alyss was one of my favorite characters in the first book and she continues to be a favorite throughout this one。 Noelle really grew on me in this one as well and Ducot was a really fun addition in this one。Like I said, this book did not have the trials which were one of my favorite parts of the first book, but that doesn't mean the plot was lacking。 We get secret groups, new characters, and so many more things I don't want to spoil。 I also liked that we got to explore more of the magic system in this book, especially Eira's powers。 She has no idea all the power she has and it's just so exciting that she keeps learning more and more about it and all the different things she can do。 I am absolutely excited to keep going in this series and see how things play out for these characters。 。。。more

First and foremost thank you to Elise for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! This review will be spoiler free for this book but will probably contain some spoilers for book 1 so be warned!I've started this review about a million times but my brain will not stop running in circles trying to comprehend everything I just read!! I absolutely loved that this book takes place shortly after the end of book 1 (thank goodness for that) with all the competitors on their way to Meru for the tournament。 After having read Elise's Vortex Chronicles series I was so excited to head back to Meru and loved being able to see it from Eira's perspective! While you definitely don't need to read the Vortex Chronicles series to understand this series I absolutely loved all the little connections between the series and knowing a bit more about some of the people you meet in this book! A Hunt of Shadows was a perfect mix of information and action that had me reading as fast as I could to find out what was going to happen。 I was constantly creating theory after theory about what was happening and loved that at least a few of my theories were correct!! But in true Elise fashion I definitely did not see some of those twists and turns coming!! I love the journey Eira takes throughout this book。 After the death at the end of book 1, I knew Eira was going to struggle and struggle she did。 But I love how through that death and the subsequent events that occur because of it, she becomes so much stronger and confident in herself and her abilities。 I just love Eira so much and want to smoosh her in a big hug and tell her everything will be alright! While I absolutely love being able to read my favorites series sooner the extra long wait for the next book is killer!! I need book 3 like right now and will be counting down the days until next year so I can find out what the heck is going to happen!!! I highly recommend this book to fans of Elise's other books, elemental magic and fantastical worlds or anyone looking for a thrilling quick read! 。。。more

The 2nd book in the A Trial of Sorcerers was just as good as the first book! I love the world building and the different story lines。 Eiras in the middle of a battle for the kingdom, with deception and betrayals at every corner。 Each day learning more about her magic and learning there isn’t many people she can trust。 I love the friendship she has with Alyss and the blooming friendship with Noelle。 I just wish I got to see more of them, as Alyss is a great character! Elise Kova does it again! Thank you Elise for allowing me to read an early copy!!This was an enjoyable read。I think I have on gripe with Elise and that’s her romance。 It’s a bit repetitive in how the romance plays out but I still enjoyed it。 I just hope in other series she will mix it up a bit。 I can’t really discuss it without spoiling so I’ll shut up。 Besides that I did enjoy the book。 The reveals were great。 I liked the plot but I don’t think it was as exciting as I thought it would be? Man oh man…。that last quarter was intense (in a great way!) 😬😍😬…pretty sure I once again devoured this one in one sitting。 Her books always do a great job of engaging me on all fronts and this one was no different。 After the events at the end of book one, Eira comes out swinging in this one。 She's in full tilt badass mode。。。wanting to nail that certain bastard to the wall and avenge her brother。 So expect to put all thoughts of the actual upcoming magical competition aside, and get buckled in as Man oh man…。that last quarter was intense (in a great way!) 😬😍😬…pretty sure I once again devoured this one in one sitting。 Her books always do a great job of engaging me on all fronts and this one was no different。 After the events at the end of book one, Eira comes out swinging in this one。 She's in full tilt badass mode。。。wanting to nail that certain bastard to the wall and avenge her brother。 So expect to put all thoughts of the actual upcoming magical competition aside, and get buckled in as she dives head first into all kinds of intrigue from the second she steps off the boat。 Danger, intrigue, action and adventure abound in this one - including some crazy twists I definitely didn't see coming - along with some good emotional growth for Eira as she battles her personal desires against the greater good, and tries to sort out all the lies from the truth。 Her and Cullen see some growth that will make many a reader happy, even if he does (nevermind can't tell you。。。that would be spoilerish:)A also love the crumbs Kova continues to drop about Eira's heritage, as well as some overall ties between this and her other series in terms of the overall world and magic within it。As for my favorite Villain he is off the charts cray once more and I love it! I love me some cray cray villains and he is perfectly MAD。 I'm crossing my fingers for continuing craziness from him, despite what happened in this one。 I will say I did miss the magical competition aspect that I was expecting in this one, but given everything that happened in this one the stakes are just that much higher as we start to see the bigger picture surrounding this whole competition and all the different cultures/competitors involved (and all the craziness happening behind the masks)。 I can't wait for the next one, I'm used to binge reading her series since I discovered her as a writer after several of her series were already out, so this one book at the time is killing me lol。 Fans of her others books will enjoy appearances from some of our favorite characters from Vortex in this one (just like we got some cameos from Air Awakens in the first one)。Thanks so much to the author, Elise Kova as well as Book of Matches Media for having me on the Instagram tour for this release, and allowing me the chance to read this eARC before pub date。 All opinions are my own。 @museignitedreads 。。。more

A Hunt for Shadows brings us to Meru, the hosting land for the competition。 In this second book, Eira spends most of it playing detective for the Court of Shadows, a political group out to battle the pillars trying to bring about the revival of a long-dead secret。 There is not a lot of focus on the actual competition as in this book they spend time training and getting to know the other competitors。 I would have liked to see the competition start, but book three is in the wings, and that's when A Hunt for Shadows brings us to Meru, the hosting land for the competition。 In this second book, Eira spends most of it playing detective for the Court of Shadows, a political group out to battle the pillars trying to bring about the revival of a long-dead secret。 There is not a lot of focus on the actual competition as in this book they spend time training and getting to know the other competitors。 I would have liked to see the competition start, but book three is in the wings, and that's when I am sure we get some perfect edge-of-your-seat action。 This second book is more a builder to get some key facts and some background uncovered before the actual battles come to light, at least I think so anyway。 The slow-burn romance between Eira and the forbidden prince is heart-wrenching and so touching。 I thoroughly enjoyed this second book, even if we did not get to the competition yet。 。。。more

A Hunt of Shadows is book 2 from A Trial of Sorcerers series and the story picks up little after the end of book 1。Eira Landan, the main character, is traveling to Meru to enter the Five Kingdom Tournament, along with the other 3 competitors from Solaris。 She has grown distant from her friends, closed off in grief and revenge plans。 While they are heading to Risen, Meru’s capital, Ferro, that was also being escorted back as a prisoner on the same boat, escapes and they arrive at a city under loc A Hunt of Shadows is book 2 from A Trial of Sorcerers series and the story picks up little after the end of book 1。Eira Landan, the main character, is traveling to Meru to enter the Five Kingdom Tournament, along with the other 3 competitors from Solaris。 She has grown distant from her friends, closed off in grief and revenge plans。 While they are heading to Risen, Meru’s capital, Ferro, that was also being escorted back as a prisoner on the same boat, escapes and they arrive at a city under lockdown。Eira meets the competitors and dignitaries from the other realms entering the tournament, but she has other concerns, namely entering the mysterious Court of Shadows, mentioned on book 1, by Deneya。I felt that this book is quite different from book 1, as it is darker in many ways。 The political intrigue is much more developed and there’s not so much focus on the tournament itself。 There’s also an immense character growth, as Eira navigates through dangerous worlds and powerful players。 She learns more about the depth of her own powers。 We also get some developments on the slow burn subplot。 The story is fast paced, which works perfectly。 One of the aspects I have to highlight, as a reader, is that I didn’t connect to Eira as immediately as I had on book 1, because she felt somehow more immature and acting without much thinking, endangering herself and those around her unnecessarily。 But as I progressed through my reading, all the pieces came together。 There are a lot of plot twists and when you think you know what is coming, something surprising happens! I’ve finished this book with even more questions than I’ve started with, but I’m definitely looking forward to reading book 3。 。。。more
