Summary

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Sam Heughan and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, a heartwarming story of love, loss, serendipity, and texting。

After a heated argument, Clara's fiancé stormed out of their apartment, but before they have a chance to reconcile, he died in a tragic accident。 It has been two years, but she's still paralyzed with grief, and her friends are worried about her。 So, to try to say what was left unsaid, she starts texting his old phone。 What she doesn't realize is that the number has been reassigned。

Across town, Sven's phone begins receiving mysterious but heartfelt text messages。 He doesn't respond, but he is captivated by the sender。 His own relationship has been on the rocks, and when it ends, he sets out to find the person who has been texting him。 Neither Sven nor Clara knew what they were setting out to find, but it would change both of their lives forever。

Ummmm。 I don’t know。 I saw this one on Penguin’s ARC selections and I was thinking this was going to be more told in texts back and forth, and it really wasn’t very few pages had text messages on it。 This one was okay, the love story was cute enough just not very memorable。

love at 3rd text A very refreshing read。 I for one had always wondered what one did after they lost their love。 This book is a little bit of magic with a hefty dose of romantic luck。 Happy reading!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I just don’t buy any of it。 Why did they even start to like each other? That wasn’t based on anything。 He lied to her the entire time。 Then at the end there wasn’t even a conflict that he had been lying behind the scenes the whole time? Nope。

I picked this book mostly for the cover。 It was cute and a rom com (that is going to be made into a movie!) which is right up my alley。 Before I read it I made the mistake of going on Goodreads to see the reviews…。and I was shocked at all the low stars on this book…and I was more surprised that it was written over 10 years ago。 But I started reading anyways and I was hooked。 It’s a story about Clara whose fiancé, Ben, dies and she’s trying to get on with life but her grief is all-consuming。 On a I picked this book mostly for the cover。 It was cute and a rom com (that is going to be made into a movie!) which is right up my alley。 Before I read it I made the mistake of going on Goodreads to see the reviews…。and I was shocked at all the low stars on this book…and I was more surprised that it was written over 10 years ago。 But I started reading anyways and I was hooked。 It’s a story about Clara whose fiancé, Ben, dies and she’s trying to get on with life but her grief is all-consuming。 On a whim she decides to text Ben’s number and starts sending him messages, about how she misses him, how she’s struggling…。her innermost thoughts。 Unbeknownst to her, Ben’s number is now Sven’s number…。so he starts reading these texts, confused…and almost replies with ‘wrong number’ however the melancholy strikes a chord with him…。and he keeps on reading。 I thought it was a wonderfully written story…about love and loss。 I am eager to read more novels from this author。 。。。more

Sofie Cramer's Text for You, an English translation of the 2009 German SMS für Dich, has me befuddled。 Or rather, the push for this book to be translated into English and adapted to the big screen nearly 15 years after being first published in Germany has me confused。 Let's also take note that SMS für Dich was ALSO made into a movie in Germany in 2016。 My question is WHY and why NOW?The concept of Text for You is nothing new。 In fact, I feel that I have seen this plot line in one form or another Sofie Cramer's Text for You, an English translation of the 2009 German SMS für Dich, has me befuddled。 Or rather, the push for this book to be translated into English and adapted to the big screen nearly 15 years after being first published in Germany has me confused。 Let's also take note that SMS für Dich was ALSO made into a movie in Germany in 2016。 My question is WHY and why NOW?The concept of Text for You is nothing new。 In fact, I feel that I have seen this plot line in one form or another in several books published over the years。 So why is this version of the story being adapted to film when the source material is so poorly done? Text for You meanders around the issues and characters, not really going anywhere, and certainly not in an engaging or interesting way。 When the two main characters do meet and fall in love, it literally happens so fast that I, listening to the audiobook, completely missed that something significant was happening。 Clara is grieving her deceased boyfriend and immediately falls for this stranger that she has been accidentally texting, but has never actually had a conversation with? Not buying it。 Perhaps Text for You feels fresh and original in Germany, but the American audience has read this story multiple times over by the year 2022。 I just don't find that there is anything "new" to gain from this book。 Hopefully the screenwriters beef up this story and give it more substance because as is, it is severely lacking。 I do recommend this book to readers who might be new to the idea of meeting the love of your life over text, but for the rest of us, Text for You is likely to be a snoozefest。 。。。more

You guys I wanted to LOVE this one soooooooo much but sadly this British, closed door romance was kind of a disappoint for me。 :(The potential was high for this love story featuring a woman trying to move on after losing her boyfriend to suicide but the anonymous texting plotline just didn't work for me。 I was not invested in these characters AT ALL。 Which made me really sad! I hope that the movie (which has some of my favorite actors attached) will be so much better!Do you like heartbreaking, c You guys I wanted to LOVE this one soooooooo much but sadly this British, closed door romance was kind of a disappoint for me。 :(The potential was high for this love story featuring a woman trying to move on after losing her boyfriend to suicide but the anonymous texting plotline just didn't work for me。 I was not invested in these characters AT ALL。 Which made me really sad! Clara’s fiancé Ben has died。 To help process her grief, she begins sending daily texts to his phone number。 She does not know that Ben’s number has been reassigned to an extremely handsome and single man, Sven (very convenient!)。 Sven is annoyed yet intrigued by these texts and starts falling for Clara once he realizes these texts might be coming from a young woman。 I borrowed this from the library as the plot sounded cute。 I did not realize that it was originally published in German in 2009 (no Clara’s fiancé Ben has died。 To help process her grief, she begins sending daily texts to his phone number。 She does not know that Ben’s number has been reassigned to an extremely handsome and single man, Sven (very convenient!)。 Sven is annoyed yet intrigued by these texts and starts falling for Clara once he realizes these texts might be coming from a young woman。 I borrowed this from the library as the plot sounded cute。 I did not realize that it was originally published in German in 2009 (now it makes sense that a movie is already in the works/coming out soon)。 The concept of “Text for You” is interesting but the execution of the plot was not successful。 The third person POV does not allow us to get to know or understand the characters。 Because of this, it was difficult to see any chemistry between the leads。 I personally did not find Clara’s texts to Ben to be charming。 Love at first sight is usually a hard sell, especially in this case。 This could have been a delightful book with more character development and a build up of Clara’s and Sven’s relationship。 。。。more

I don't have any justification on why I picked this book。 Other than absolute impulsiveness。 I also didn't know that this was going to be made into a movie。 But I'll surely give that movie a skip if it followed the book。 The blurb was interesting when I read it but in the book it was horrible。 I get that Clara found the texts as a way to grieve and let out her feelings but it took the entire book for Sven to let her know about it。 It took them 3/4 of the book to meet each other just for them to I don't have any justification on why I picked this book。 Other than absolute impulsiveness。 I also didn't know that this was going to be made into a movie。 But I'll surely give that movie a skip if it followed the book。 The blurb was interesting when I read it but in the book it was horrible。 I get that Clara found the texts as a way to grieve and let out her feelings but it took the entire book for Sven to let her know about it。 It took them 3/4 of the book to meet each other just for them to be together instantly。 The romance wasn't developed and it just clicked too fast between them。 I thought there would have been more about Ben's past but it wasn't clear。 The pace of this book was way, WAY too slow。 I felt like I was just going back and forth between the texts in a chatroom which doesn't need to be so long。 But, it is my first translated book。 This book originally came out in German in 2009。 And I have null knowledge on anything related to Germany so some of the details were new to me。 I don't even know what is my review about now because I'm that underwhelmed。 。。。more

Clara's regret and all the things she didn't say (and did say) to her fiancé Ben before his untimely death comes through loud and clear in the texts she sends to his phone。 Only problem- the number has been reassigned to Sven。 Sven doesn't engage but then he decides to look for Clara。 You can guess how this is going to go- and you can, apparently, see it on screen in a new movie。 Note that this is a reissue of a novel published in Germany in 2009。 Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC。 Clara's regret and all the things she didn't say (and did say) to her fiancé Ben before his untimely death comes through loud and clear in the texts she sends to his phone。 Only problem- the number has been reassigned to Sven。 Sven doesn't engage but then he decides to look for Clara。 You can guess how this is going to go- and you can, apparently, see it on screen in a new movie。 Note that this is a reissue of a novel published in Germany in 2009。 Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC。 。。。more

Told in alternating points of view, this tale of a string of texts over time to a deceased fiancé that continually land with the next person to get assigned the phone number is part romance, part mystery。 Clara finds some comfort in sending messages to her dearly departed — it’s unclear if his death was an accident or deliberate —and their relationship was not always ideal; he liked to party and was not as ambitious。 Sven, stuck in a dead end job, and lonely, doesn’t respond to the texts he rece Told in alternating points of view, this tale of a string of texts over time to a deceased fiancé that continually land with the next person to get assigned the phone number is part romance, part mystery。 Clara finds some comfort in sending messages to her dearly departed — it’s unclear if his death was an accident or deliberate —and their relationship was not always ideal; he liked to party and was not as ambitious。 Sven, stuck in a dead end job, and lonely, doesn’t respond to the texts he receives but speculates on who they are for and what the circumstances are。 He frequently enlists the help of a coworker to decipher the messages and then pieces together the clues to figure out who they are coming from。 Eventually, he decided to track down Clara to meet her。Set in Germany, and more than ten years dated, some cultural details were foreign to this American reader。 I loved how Clara’s processing through her grief and coming into her own as an artist, parallels Sven’s growing self confidence。 This novel was more cerebral, less action and a bit slow-paced for my taste。 Josie Silver’s The Two Lives of Lydia Bird is a readalike that I found more satisfying。I received an advance reader’s review copy of #TextForYou from #NetGalley。 。。。more

A sweet romance if you are in the mood for one。 Soon to be a movie。

Reading a book published in 2009 is not something I had intended when I opened the book。 I felt there was no clarity in the fact that this was a reissue, newly translated。 I found the main plot point dated and something that has been reused and is very predictable。 With that being said, it’s a sweet story for those who enjoy romance reading。 Thank you for this ARC。
