Summary

In this poignant novel from the bestselling author of Where the Story Starts, an extraordinary final wish brings five lives together forever。

Just turned eighteen, Romany is on the cusp of taking her first steps into adulthood when tragedy strikes, and she finds herself suddenly alone without her mother, Angie, the only parent she has ever known。 In her final letter, Angie has charged her four closest friends with guiding Romany through her last year of school—but is there an ulterior motive to her unusual dying wish?

Each of the four guardians possesses an outlook on life that Angie wants to give her daughter as a legacy。 Three of them have known each other since university: the eternally nomadic and exotically named Tiger; the shy and practical Leon with his untapped musical genius; and Maggie, a brilliant lawyer who doesn’t know her own abilities。 But the fourth guardian is a mystery to the others: they’ve never even heard of former model Hope before…

As the guardians reflect on their friendship with Angie, it becomes apparent that this unusual arrangement is as much about them as it is about Romany。 Navigating their grief individually and as a group, what will all five of them learn about themselves, their pasts—and the woman who’s brought them all together?

Good flow, easy read, predictable。

4。5☆s。 [Does distinguish from 4☆ books I really enjoyed but weren't quite strong enough to be on the all time favorites list :)。] Loved the character development over decades, the ways friendships can develop and influence our lives in so many ways, and ways chance plays a factor as well。 Audible narration is excellent。 [Kindle Unlimited, read & listen。 Sort of dispapointed when I double checked。 This might be one I opt to buy the audiobook。 It would be a peaceful re-listen。] Thinking more, but 4。5☆s。 [Does distinguish from 4☆ books I really enjoyed but weren't quite strong enough to be on the all time favorites list :)。] Loved the character development over decades, the ways friendships can develop and influence our lives in so many ways, and ways chance plays a factor as well。 Audible narration is excellent。 [Kindle Unlimited, read & listen。 Sort of dispapointed when I double checked。 This might be one I opt to buy the audiobook。 It would be a peaceful re-listen。] Thinking more, but also thinking through ways to leave out spoilers。 。。。more

I truly enjoyed this book。 I have a small group of friends I've had 30+ years and I identified with how different they all were, but what united them as well。 It was fun to see them all change and grow through the years。 I truly enjoyed this book。 I have a small group of friends I've had 30+ years and I identified with how different they all were, but what united them as well。 It was fun to see them all change and grow through the years。 。。。more

Emotional happy rollercoasterBeautiful heartwarming story that kept me engaged throughout。 Love the way author captured emotional entanglements over the years while reflecting reality of time's impact on the relationships。 All characters have been well developed that you can almost expect how they are going to turn out, but with hidden surprise elements。 Emotional happy rollercoasterBeautiful heartwarming story that kept me engaged throughout。 Love the way author captured emotional entanglements over the years while reflecting reality of time's impact on the relationships。 All characters have been well developed that you can almost expect how they are going to turn out, but with hidden surprise elements。 。。。more

I listened to this on Audible and read via KU。 It was a lovely book to read, and I will admit shedding a few tears。 I thoroughly enjoyed it。 The premise was interesting, and I was soon involved in each of the main characters and happy to float along to see where their lives all tied together。 Nothing huge happened in the story (apart from Angie dying)。 It was just such a fabulous story about friendship。 Angie knew them all inside out。

This was an Amazon first read - and a surprisingly good one。 Much more complex than I was expecting - and I really enjoyed the decade by decade build up to the endgame storyline。 I am a huge sucker for a college plotline。 I wished that Leon and Tiger could have had their own POV chapters - I would have loved to have known why they are who they are (hinted at - but not quite explained)。 It dragged a bit in the middle, but overall I really enjoyed it。 It was a nice, but not too fluffy, palate clea This was an Amazon first read - and a surprisingly good one。 Much more complex than I was expecting - and I really enjoyed the decade by decade build up to the endgame storyline。 I am a huge sucker for a college plotline。 I wished that Leon and Tiger could have had their own POV chapters - I would have loved to have known why they are who they are (hinted at - but not quite explained)。 It dragged a bit in the middle, but overall I really enjoyed it。 It was a nice, but not too fluffy, palate cleanser for the classics that I've committed to reading。 。。。more

this will be Impossible To ForgetSuch a feel good story of what friends mean to each other。 These friends become the chosen family。 They band together following the wishes of Angie, that they all loved dearly。

Great book about lifelong friendships。

Like many of the reviews, I was not a fan of the organization of the book。 We get the first chapter setting up the story (aka the premise of the whole book) and then the next 40ish chapters are flashback of all the friends meeting and their lives up until Angie's death。 Then the last 20ish chapters are back in present day。 I think this would have flowed better as a book that had flashbacks throughout that were relevant to the present day story。 We didn't need 40 chapters worth of flashback。The c Like many of the reviews, I was not a fan of the organization of the book。 We get the first chapter setting up the story (aka the premise of the whole book) and then the next 40ish chapters are flashback of all the friends meeting and their lives up until Angie's death。 Then the last 20ish chapters are back in present day。 I think this would have flowed better as a book that had flashbacks throughout that were relevant to the present day story。 We didn't need 40 chapters worth of flashback。The characters。。。OOF。。。The characters were very unlikeable a good chunk of the time until you got more context of their lives。Lastly, was it me or was the "big reveal" in the end wrapped up way to quickly and easily with the shortest of chapters。With all of that negative being said, the book did flowed nicely, was well written, and an easy read。 。。。more

Romany can not believe her mom has died when Romany is just 18。 Her mother left her three best friends from college in charge。 This is a sweet tale of life long friendships, enduring hardship, loyalty, unexpected and painful twists in life。 Sweet all the way to the end。

Enjoyable This is a well written book with a good story line。 No gratuitous sex or "f" bombs。 It was written by a British author so some of the vernacular was different than I'm used to, but that added to my enjoyment of the book。 Enjoyable This is a well written book with a good story line。 No gratuitous sex or "f" bombs。 It was written by a British author so some of the vernacular was different than I'm used to, but that added to my enjoyment of the book。 。。。more

This book seemed to have something for every age。 The storytelling at the beginning felt a little ordinary which was likely by design。 Once you learned to love (or potentially not love) about each of the characters, the book pushed you to learn to love them more。 It was a beautiful story of a group of unlikely friends who could sometimes go years without talking and were somehow always there for each other。 The story spans over 30 years and at the center is a young girl trying to navigate life w This book seemed to have something for every age。 The storytelling at the beginning felt a little ordinary which was likely by design。 Once you learned to love (or potentially not love) about each of the characters, the book pushed you to learn to love them more。 It was a beautiful story of a group of unlikely friends who could sometimes go years without talking and were somehow always there for each other。 The story spans over 30 years and at the center is a young girl trying to navigate life without her Mom while being looked after by her Mom's friends。 Said mother was able to navigate not only her daughter's life but the lives of those she loved the most in a wonderful and poignant way。 。。。more

A story about unlikely friends that become a family; about the love that Angie has for her daughter and her friends; about tolerance for people's quirkiness and differences; about people rediscovering themselves。 A truly enjoyable book! the friendship between the girls was very sweet and i loved it but the friendship between the boys and the girls was weird cause at times it was purposely not romantic but not platonic and that grey area is just so annoying to me。 but other than that just a well written book about relationships through。 life not much else to say read if you want or not i have literally no strong opinions about it

This was a comfortable read and enjoyable towards the end of the book。The first 70% of the book followed Angie and her 3 friends from meeting at University to the current day, so the majority of the book didn't follow the synopsis。 This part was rather slow and the storyline didn't go anywhere。 It also felt too long for the purpose of introducing the characters and their back story。After this we met Romany and the book picked up pace。 I liked Romany as a character and wish that more of the book This was a comfortable read and enjoyable towards the end of the book。The first 70% of the book followed Angie and her 3 friends from meeting at University to the current day, so the majority of the book didn't follow the synopsis。 This part was rather slow and the storyline didn't go anywhere。 It also felt too long for the purpose of introducing the characters and their back story。After this we met Romany and the book picked up pace。 I liked Romany as a character and wish that more of the book featured her。I liked the characters but didn't love them。 Even though you got an idea of the characters, they seemed to lack emotional depth。 However, at the end you wished you could be part of their friendship gang。Thank you net galley and the publisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

a good storyIt was fun to see a moms last wish for her daughter be fulfilled in such an awkward way … college friends and a random person are assigned responsibilities for a teen daughter。 The story I’d told from both the current and past timelines and the fiends all have an impact on Romany’s life and she also has an affect on theirs。。 The story wrapped up in a nice little bow at the end and I felt good about that!
