Amazing StoryI actually discovered this story from it's adaptation in Manta comics。 I decided I wanted to read the original book, and found that it is by a Korean author。 They offer the story on a Korean site called RidiBooks, and I've read the first book in it's entirety。 The translation from Korean to English with Google Translate is a bit rough sometimes。 That's why Idecided to purchase season 1 on Amazon。 The translation here is great, and now it's in my Kindle library as a bonus! This is only part of the first book, but I promise Maxi and Riftian's story will suck you in。 Maximilian is the daughter of a wealthy Lord, and she is married off to Riftian before he is sent off to slay a dragon。 The story starts off 3 years later after the dragon campaign is complete。 These two are complete strangers, and they struggle with communication。 Seeing their growth throughout the story, especially Maxi's, is amazing。 The author currently has the 2nd book out as well, (not sure if it's complete yet) and I can't wait to read it。 I really hope she adds the rest of this story to Amazon so I can add them to my collection! 。。。more

This was my first manga, and I think it was recommended to me because it is basically a fantasy novel set in some version of medieval Europe but with magic and monsters。 It was fine。 Some of the artwork was really lovely。 But the plot dragged。 I wish there were a lot more actiony bits in between the (truly very emotionally rich and nuanced) examination of Maxi's self-loathing。 The most interesting part of this story is the heroine's extreme self-loathing and doubt。 It came about as a result of a This was my first manga, and I think it was recommended to me because it is basically a fantasy novel set in some version of medieval Europe but with magic and monsters。 It was fine。 Some of the artwork was really lovely。 But the plot dragged。 I wish there were a lot more actiony bits in between the (truly very emotionally rich and nuanced) examination of Maxi's self-loathing。 The most interesting part of this story is the heroine's extreme self-loathing and doubt。 It came about as a result of a physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive father and manifests most strikingly in her stutter。 Most of the arc of the story is her learning that not everyone will beat her for stuttering like her father did, nor hold her up to impossibly high standards。 She's shocked by kindness and baffled that someone like Riftan isn't constantly annoyed by her "uselessness" and disability。 It's a tragic backstory that leads to a rather bittersweet and hesitant romance with her husband after their arranged marriage。 But most of this conflict takes place in thought bubbles, with a few major exceptions。I had to giggle at some of the manga artwork conventions, while I thought others were pretty neat! The repeated motif of flowers framing certain panels as a way to signify how Riftan views Maxi (he thinks she's gorgeous) in contrast to how she views herself (a shitstain upon humanity) was a lovely touch。 Also a good example of the "a picture is worth a thousand words" philosophy that makes stories like this lend themselves to graphic novels more than straight prose。 But the tiny-head-on-giant-body shape of all the knights, including Riftan, was fucking hilarious。 Especially when Riftan was meant to look hunky or heroic or whatever。 I just couldn't get over the tiny head!I think there was also a little lost in translation (obviously I don't read Japanese)。 The clearest relationship between characters was Maxi/her father, Maxi/Riftan, and Maxi/the servants。 But the attitude of Ruth and certain knights toward Maxi was hard to decipher and seemed to fluctuate beyond what the story demanded。 I'm going to chock that up to translator error。。。 or just clumsily muddy storytelling。 So that was my first manga! Thanks to Julia for recommending it。 Not sure if I'll keep reading the next season, but I am pretty smug about having a little more coolness cred with my manga-loving niece。 。。。more

Okay, I love this story。 Maxi is literally so sweet, and Riftan doesn’t get how badly she was treated before she came to live in Anatol。 But he’s a good person, and he’s really patient with her, and you can obviously tell he loves her a lot, only Maxi doesn’t think she’s worth loving。 I’m currently reading season 2, I’ve read both seasons about 12 times over… it’s just so well written, and the art is beautiful, it’s just romantic fluff, and I can’t wait to see where it’s going ^-^

Terrible, run of the mill romance webtoon。 I should know better than expect something from m/f romances at this point, especially if they’re popular: their popularity is 98% of the time inversely proportional to the quality of their writing。 Romance readers will excuse the rapey love interest because “well a character needs flaws!” or “Korean culture has different views on sex!”。 The heroine is your stereotypical “timid, oppressed, pure white girl” whose only development is… finding romantic lov Terrible, run of the mill romance webtoon。 I should know better than expect something from m/f romances at this point, especially if they’re popular: their popularity is 98% of the time inversely proportional to the quality of their writing。 Romance readers will excuse the rapey love interest because “well a character needs flaws!” or “Korean culture has different views on sex!”。 The heroine is your stereotypical “timid, oppressed, pure white girl” whose only development is… finding romantic love with an abusive, bad tempered “badass” who can’t even communicate with her。I like my escapist, trashy romance to have heroines with a back bone and not whinny ninnies like Maxi。 。。。more

3。5 stars — I rlly don’t know how I ended up reading this manga, maybe cuz I needed some escapism and it was fun to read something light with art。 The art is beautiful, besides the weird tongue out kissing scenes (lmao) that are so unnecessary。 Someone also mentioned that Riftan, the male MC, is 3 times bigger than the female MC, Maxi。 I do concur😂。 It’s funny。 Anyways, read this manga if you wanna indulge in something silly and not text heavy。 Again, the art is so beautiful for the most part ☺️

Steamy escapist fantasy romance novel! (Guilty pleasure energy! Super fun to read。 Love the art!Tbh lots of possessive/obsessive/ borderline unhealthy love, but I’m a sucker for the passion and I love the exploration of magic/fantasy aspect in the web novel and I love seeing Maxi’s development! Her character is surprisingly relatable and impressive!

I had an interesting situation with this manhwa。 I kept seeing and seeing some ad。 about web novels and comics but mostly what I saw is called "under the oak tree"。 there was an insecure little girl and a tough huge man on a train or smth like that。 I avoid ads。。。 but this time seeing again n again made me wonder。 Plus, like ten months ago (I know it cuz I have a tumblr) I saw a painting and fell in love with it even I made it to my phone wallpaper。 This is the painting。 I did read that painting I had an interesting situation with this manhwa。 I kept seeing and seeing some ad。 about web novels and comics but mostly what I saw is called "under the oak tree"。 there was an insecure little girl and a tough huge man on a train or smth like that。 I avoid ads。。。 but this time seeing again n again made me wonder。 Plus, like ten months ago (I know it cuz I have a tumblr) I saw a painting and fell in love with it even I made it to my phone wallpaper。 This is the painting。 I did read that painting was for a web manhwa at that time but I had pooh-poohed (I'm sorry)。 After seeing the cover of manhwa it popped up into my mind。 I'm glad I didn't start right away bc first season of the manhwa just finished。 Anyway, I read and really enjoyed it。 Because:it ridiculously has every cliche you can imagine。 an abused girl, an intrepid warrior, misunderstanding or can't open up to each other, hilarious side characters, all events and situations etc。 It was like reading a historical novel lol。 LMFAO their height and size difference oh boy。I realized that I had missed reading manga。 The art makes me feel that way。 all these exaggerated n styled expressions, gestures, mimics。 Graphic novels are very different thing。 Chibi style。。。 gosh I really missed this。Also illustrations of landscapes and clothes and details were amazing。 That's why I love manga art most。btw, it's SMUT。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。 it is ridiculous, but I die for itxoxoxoiko 。。。more

I got targeted by an Instagram ad for this webtoon for MONTHS and finally caved in。 Turns out it's the kind of silly light romance stuff I like to read when I'm tired and I spent the day reading it in one sitting。 Congratulations Instagram, you won this round。 I got targeted by an Instagram ad for this webtoon for MONTHS and finally caved in。 Turns out it's the kind of silly light romance stuff I like to read when I'm tired and I spent the day reading it in one sitting。 Congratulations Instagram, you won this round。 。。。more

I’m a big sucker for a knight saving a princess。 Maxi and Riftan’s chemistry is 🔥。 Their characters are easy to love! Especially Riftan always being protective of his wife! I got advertised this on Instagram and I was feeling emotional so I read it。 I liked it but it feels weird that it counts towards my reading challenge。 I’ve forgotten all the characters names and honestly it was a blur, but I nice blur。 The main guy was a big guy and I appreciated all the images the artist drew of him shirtless, that sounds weird but he reminded me of my favourite hockey guys。 Anyway 4/5。
