Summary

Welcome to the Vilokan Asylum of the Magically and Mentally Deranged。
I'm Doctor Cain。 I'll be supervising your treatment plan。
Yes, before you ask, I am that Cain。
I've come a long way since I became the world's first murderer。
I'm now a licensed psychiatrist。
What is it you just asked? You heard that I was cursed?
Yes, I'm also the world's first werewolf。。。
But don't worry。 I have it under control。
It won't interfere with your progress at Vilokan Asylum。

3 BOOKS IN ONE MASSIVE VOLUME!
Includes。。。

The Curse of Cain: When a necromancer is admitted to Vilokan Asylum against her will, and she evokes the ghost of Cain's murdered brother, Abel, he'll have to do more than treat the patient。。。 he'll have to confront the ghosts of his past, literally。

Razing Cain: After agreeing with the new Vampire Council to take on their newest batch of younglings, and help them tame their blood cravings, things quickly get out of hand at Vilokan Asylum。 Dr。 Cain will need more than a "blood suckers" support group to get a handle on the issue。 He'll require the aid of Baron Samedi。。。 of course, when the Baron is involved, his help almost always comes at a cost。

Cain and Angel: A fallen angel has a change of heart。 She just can't stomach the big guy "downstairs" and his propensity for torture, fire, and all that devilish crap。 But she's burned her bridges with the celestials, too。 When she comes to Vilokan Asylum, she hopes Cain's experience with the guy "upstairs" can help her find her own path on the narrow road between the warring leagues of angels。 But when the Archangel Michael is sent to arrest the "unfallen" angel, Cain must approach the Divine for the first time in several millennia to advocate for his patient。

So far, I have not found a book of Theophilus that I have not fell in love with。 Follow Cain on his second chance, and of course other characters that you will know from reading his other stories。 It's so hard to write a review on his books so you can enjoy the story without spoilers。 Soooo get into a comfortable place because you are not going to want to put this 3-book set down。I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 So far, I have not found a book of Theophilus that I have not fell in love with。 Follow Cain on his second chance, and of course other characters that you will know from reading his other stories。 It's so hard to write a review on his books so you can enjoy the story without spoilers。 Soooo get into a comfortable place because you are not going to want to put this 3-book set down。I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

I have only recently encountered the writing of Theophilus Monroe through his Legend of Nyx series。 I enjoyed this book which is actually three stories making this a large book。 It’s a mostly successful mash up of shifters, magic, ghosts, vampires, angels and a whole lot more。 It stars Cain (yes that one) who after murdering his brother has spent the intervening centuries coming to terms with what he did and has become a psychologist。 Not quite what I think of from Cain, but this story works and I have only recently encountered the writing of Theophilus Monroe through his Legend of Nyx series。 I enjoyed this book which is actually three stories making this a large book。 It’s a mostly successful mash up of shifters, magic, ghosts, vampires, angels and a whole lot more。 It stars Cain (yes that one) who after murdering his brother has spent the intervening centuries coming to terms with what he did and has become a psychologist。 Not quite what I think of from Cain, but this story works and I found it enthralling。 I stayed up well past my bedtime reading it。 Now on to why I only gave it four stars。 I feel like at times the story was bogged down by too much explanation。 I was taken out of the tale as I tried to figure out what was going on。 If you have to have so much of this in your book then maybe you need to simplify things。 Overall a terrific read。I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

I really loved this one。 It was well written with a werewolf doctor as the main character as head of the Vilokan Asylum of the Magically and Mentally Deranged。 Fast paced and fun to read I enjoyed all the characters that Dr Cain met as the story unfolds with many a riot。 Both entertaining and a twist to the usual paranormal series plus a dash of New Orleans twist。 Hard to choose a favorite character but I do like Dr Cain and his take on life and second chances。 Just so much fun to read。

The first of the three in this three book volume is the one I liked best, but all 3 are entertaining and full of action and humor。 The MJ error Cassidy committed and the Thriller fiasco is one of those priceless moments。 It was cool to see the brothers together again, too。 I have read several different books from different authors with Cain as the MC。 This author has done a fantastic job。 I am looking forward to it reading more in this series as well as the associated storylines and his other bo The first of the three in this three book volume is the one I liked best, but all 3 are entertaining and full of action and humor。 The MJ error Cassidy committed and the Thriller fiasco is one of those priceless moments。 It was cool to see the brothers together again, too。 I have read several different books from different authors with Cain as the MC。 This author has done a fantastic job。 I am looking forward to it reading more in this series as well as the associated storylines and his other books。I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

The Curse of Cain is an incredible series comprised of The Curse of Cain, Razing Cain, and Cain and Angel。 The books take us inside The Vilokan Asylum of the Magically and Mentally Deranged, where none other than Cain, yes that Cain, is the psychiatrist treating the patients。 The patients are witches, werewolves, vampires, and other magical creatures。 The books have all kinds of paranormal, supernatural action, and compelling characters that keep you engaged。 Dr。 Cain himself is pretty snarky an The Curse of Cain is an incredible series comprised of The Curse of Cain, Razing Cain, and Cain and Angel。 The books take us inside The Vilokan Asylum of the Magically and Mentally Deranged, where none other than Cain, yes that Cain, is the psychiatrist treating the patients。 The patients are witches, werewolves, vampires, and other magical creatures。 The books have all kinds of paranormal, supernatural action, and compelling characters that keep you engaged。 Dr。 Cain himself is pretty snarky and will have you chuckling more than once。 His inner dialog is, at times, genius。 These books are beyond entertaining with action, drama, suspense, twists, mysterious happenings, wit, magic, shifters, and so much more。 You will not want to put them down。I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

I like how we go back to Cain and get his story but more with the others。 Theo is a genius when it comes to writing all this fantasy stuff。 He writes it so smoothly that if you didn’t know better seems real。 I recommend reading all of his books。 He takes you into another world yet still being on earth。 I know I know it’s strange but definitely good, funny, suspenseful and more!I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。

The Curse of Cain could stand alone, each volume of it。 But why would you want it to? Well thought out, only a few typos, and best of all previous book characters appear。 Some are almost teasers, making you want to find and read their story in his works。 Based in New Orleans you flirt with the locale and are not immersed in it。 I prefer a lot of action and less introspection。 However; that is Cain's line of work, and this book blends it all into the story, giving you more of an in-depth look at The Curse of Cain could stand alone, each volume of it。 But why would you want it to? 10 years ago, Doctor Cain was asked by the Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau if he would work at the Vilokan Asylum for the Magically and Mentally Deranged。 Now he runs with the pack of rougarou in the Manchac swamp every full moon and provides them with counseling。 These 3 stories have Bible references throughout, mostly from Genesis but some references from the Book of Revelation and others are also added。 There is lots of action, a small amount of romance, and the ending is a cliffhanger。 Very highl 10 years ago, Doctor Cain was asked by the Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau if he would work at the Vilokan Asylum for the Magically and Mentally Deranged。 Now he runs with the pack of rougarou in the Manchac swamp every full moon and provides them with counseling。 These 3 stories have Bible references throughout, mostly from Genesis but some references from the Book of Revelation and others are also added。 There is lots of action, a small amount of romance, and the ending is a cliffhanger。 Very highly recommended。I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

I was an Arc reader for this book and it kept me interested from page two。 It is an interesting take on the story of Cain and what happened after he killed his brother Abel。 You will meet new characters and become reacquainted with old from his other series。 Many twists and turns keep you on your toes and you go hhhmm。 Give this story a try 。。。 You will not be disappointed。

I can’t speak for Theophilus’s other fans, but this is a series I have been anxiously waiting for! I don’t want to spoil anything, but there is SO much to tell。 Cain (YES THAT one) and the motley crew is here! Cain is a psychiatrist that treats the magically and supernaturally inclined。We have many of our most loved characters from Theo’s other series in this one。 I LOVE how his series intermix and dabble with each other。 It’s one big beautiful universe and awesome!!!! So, the first book of a new series and it’s a good start。 Considering the need to flesh out the character and others it turned out to be lot better than I thought it was going to be。 Highly recommended。

Simply brilliant! Entertaining, engaging, and delightfully, entrancing。 Theophilus Monroe is a supreme story teller no matter the character or storyline and he will take you on an unforgettable ride。 His mind has an unimaginable pool of creativity。 This book is a must read。

Physician, heal thyself。 The author took this, tossed it together with Genesis, mixed in werewolves and came up with a redemption tale that is high on faith and inspiration。 I found the characters, particularly Cain, incredibly engaging and relatable。 How the author has Cain turning his curse into a blessing and his calling feels real and realistic (even though it apparently took Cain millennia to work out his issues to do that)。 I particularly taken by the author's charitable treatment of menta Physician, heal thyself。 The author took this, tossed it together with Genesis, mixed in werewolves and came up with a redemption tale that is high on faith and inspiration。 I found the characters, particularly Cain, incredibly engaging and relatable。 How the author has Cain turning his curse into a blessing and his calling feels real and realistic (even though it apparently took Cain millennia to work out his issues to do that)。 I particularly taken by the author's charitable treatment of mental health issues in the midst of settling even temporarily the first case of sibling rivalry and the first family feud。 This author does not think small, even when writing of small things。 I am looking forward to the next installments of Dr。 Cain's work。I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

When it comes to Monroe, I have learnt always to expect the unexpected, and then some more。 With every new book I cannot help to wonder at his ingenuity and the permanent ‘creative fugue’ that seems to permeate every and each one of his characters, and I must add his wonderful and completely disregard of boundaries。 Every one of his characters have successfully found their way into my life, from Elijah, through Mercy, Joni, Annabelle, and Isabelle to Nyx and beyond。 Those of you acquainted with When it comes to Monroe, I have learnt always to expect the unexpected, and then some more。 With every new book I cannot help to wonder at his ingenuity and the permanent ‘creative fugue’ that seems to permeate every and each one of his characters, and I must add his wonderful and completely disregard of boundaries。 Every one of his characters have successfully found their way into my life, from Elijah, through Mercy, Joni, Annabelle, and Isabelle to Nyx and beyond。 Those of you acquainted with ‘The Gates of Eden’ verse already know and understand, everyone else (there is still anyone not acquainted with Monroe’s ‘Gates of Eden’ 😊) will find their way to it eventually…。。 “The Curse of Cain” is a very direct way to enter the verse, Cain is the deranged of them all (no spoilers here people, is in the subtitle 😉), and even so… let us not forget sometimes god/and evil are only a fraction apart, as the old song goes “Heaven help the Devil may the have some unpleasant memories” (Lightfoot)。This volume compiles three books in the “Vilokan Asylum of the Magically and Mentally Deranged” series (“The Curse of Cain”, “Razing Cain” & “Cain and Angel”) into a single volume with over 420 pages al deliciously deranged urban fantasy that confront every single presupposition you ever have about Cain, Abel and the whole tradiert biblical story: Welcome into the Asylum, meet Cain, the in-house psychologist, in charge of the well-being of those affected by any afflictions of the mind, whether possessed humans or those with a supernatural identity (vampires, werewolves and more)。 Things evolve from Asylum-level normality for full-on deranged mode as a Necromancer comes into the Asylum with the purpose to conjure Abel’s ghost, confronting Cain with his past while trying to treat said Necromancer… and this is just the beginning… as the beginning of “The Curse of Cain” 😉。 “Razing Cain” puts Cain into Baron Samedi’s path, while “Cain and Angel” confronts Cain with the Divine for the first time in millennia。 The “Vilokan Asylum of the Magically and Mentally Deranged” is part of the “Gates of Eden”, an fully original verse that loosely borrows Arthurian tropes and transfer them organically into a modern urban fantasy that spans centuries, crossing realms and blurs the boundaries between reality and legend and transforms them into a veritable smørrebrød of action, unexpected twists, wonderful characters and mind-blowing descriptions, garnished with a good dose of magic some sprinkles of mythical lore and some paranormal romance on the side, and served with very well-crafted, with an accurate world building, interesting characters, captivating writing style and carefully editing。 Monroe’s ‘Garten of Eden’ verse is populated by a vast number of extraordinary characters, which are (unless very subjectively) almost impossible to rank, but nobody would ever contest that Cain is at the top of the food chain, I mean maybe someone would…。 eventually at their own risk, providing they are brave enough to challenge the most deranged of them all 😉 。。。more
