Loved this book。 Honest, unrelenting, funny and an homage to the NHS。

BuyWould I Recommend? Yes, if you haven’t read it, please do Would I Re-read? Yes!TW: There are several trigger warnings in this book, please search them before reading。 。。。more

This book was absolutely hilarious and gave me lots of laughs with its unexpected dark humor。The sad thing is me being a medical student in a third world country it painted a whole new picture on what healthcare is like in a supposedly developed system and I total agree with how doctors especially at early stages are treated and pressured by governing bodies and having the choice of saving a life or having one and its almost never the latter。The only thing I despised was that to me he pushed it This book was absolutely hilarious and gave me lots of laughs with its unexpected dark humor。The sad thing is me being a medical student in a third world country it painted a whole new picture on what healthcare is like in a supposedly developed system and I total agree with how doctors especially at early stages are treated and pressured by governing bodies and having the choice of saving a life or having one and its almost never the latter。The only thing I despised was that to me he pushed it a bit too far sometimes with derogation。 。。。more

Some hilarious recounts of the unfortunately very bleak situation within the NHS。 Read it in one sitting and it had me choking with laughter and almost moved to tears at the lives of junior doctors。 The work they do is honestly superhuman。

Wonderfully simple book but very enjoyable to read。 Funny at times, tragic at others。 Gives a great insight into life as a doctor。

Utterly fabulous I laughed, I cried and pretty much every other emotion joined me whilst reading this book。 A fabulous insight into life at the NHS。 Whilst funny is also heartbreaking that the medical system we all love is so horrifically managed。 This is a must read。

Our Bookclub choice for February and definitely not a book I would choose to read。 I have no interest in medicine and rarely watch medical dramas or documentaries。 I’m also quite squeamish so skipped some bits。 I did find the black humour quite entertaining and laughed out load a few times。 An interesting insight into the grittier side of training to be a doctor & I absolutely support his argument regarding the ridiculous hours put in & the dedication of staff。 Interesting that he specialised in Our Bookclub choice for February and definitely not a book I would choose to read。 I have no interest in medicine and rarely watch medical dramas or documentaries。 I’m also quite squeamish so skipped some bits。 I did find the black humour quite entertaining and laughed out load a few times。 An interesting insight into the grittier side of training to be a doctor & I absolutely support his argument regarding the ridiculous hours put in & the dedication of staff。 Interesting that he specialised in gynaecology as this made the story more engaging for me but also brought back some unpleasant memories (2 emergency caesareans!) which I really don’t need to revisit。 Book has just been turned into tv series which I will not be watching - just not for me。 My regard for NHS workers remains high even as my “I’d rather not know“ attitude remains strong。 。。。more

Much respect for all frontline healthworkers in perennially underfunded and underresourced systems。 I read this book after watching the BBC series with Ben Whishaw。 Same as series, it's outstanding, devastating and funny。 I'm also glad I did not read this when I was pregnant with my kids!

Medical drama is kinda my catnip so I was predisposed to liking this。 I listened to it as an audiobook and getting a first-person account of things narrated by the author made the listening experience even more immediate and somehow intimate。 I'd love to say this book was funny because it was in many places except as soon as you finish laughing you realise it's not fiction and there's nothing to laugh about。 I mean, this was written pre-pandemic and pre-Brexit so I suppose things got NHS staff h Medical drama is kinda my catnip so I was predisposed to liking this。 I listened to it as an audiobook and getting a first-person account of things narrated by the author made the listening experience even more immediate and somehow intimate。 I'd love to say this book was funny because it was in many places except as soon as you finish laughing you realise it's not fiction and there's nothing to laugh about。 I mean, this was written pre-pandemic and pre-Brexit so I suppose things got NHS staff have only got worse in the meantime。 。。。more

An absolutely fantastic book。 Genuinely。 Three parts hilarious and two parts harrowing。 I've read this before, pre-Goodreads, and was inspired to re-read it by the BBC series that's just started, which I'm two episodes into and which is genuinely causing mild depressive fits every night。 Everyone should read this。 Everyone who has ever experienced the NHS。 Anyone who dared to vote Conservative at the last election, knowing what they were doing。If you want something similar, maybe take a look at An absolutely fantastic book。 Genuinely。 Three parts hilarious and two parts harrowing。 I've read this before, pre-Goodreads, and was inspired to re-read it by the BBC series that's just started, which I'm two episodes into and which is genuinely causing mild depressive fits every night。 Everyone should read this。 Everyone who has ever experienced the NHS。 Anyone who dared to vote Conservative at the last election, knowing what they were doing。If you want something similar, maybe take a look at When Breath Becomes Air。 Just as upsetting, maybe a little less funny。 。。。more
