Summary

From the world's #1 bestselling author comes a thrilling new standalone novel where a detective duo of sisters finds themselves in the crosshairs of a dangerous and lawless group。

Attorney Rhonda Bird returns home after a long estrangement when she learns her father has died。 There she makes two important discoveries: her father stopped being an accountant and had opened up a private detective agency, and she has a teenage half sister named Baby。 Baby brings in a client to the detective agency, a young man who claims he was abducted。 During the course of the investigation, Rhonda and Baby become entangled in a dangerous case involving a group of overprivileged young adults who break laws for fun, their psychopath ringleader, and an ex-assassin victim who decides to hunt them down for revenge。

I really enjoyed this book。 Lot of killing and murder。 Think Vera should of been killed off and not get away with what she did。 I am hoping they might do more of these books。 Loved it。

Cindy Weber

The first couple of chapters had me interested but that quickly changed with unbelievable story lines and characters! No depth to the two sisters!

Great story。 Captivating

Rhonda Bird gets a phone call from an attorney in California that she needs to meet with him asap。 Rhonda's father is dead and she has been named guardian of her half-sister that she was not aware of。 The story is about some of their antics as they get to know each other including a friend of Baby's (the sister) who shows up one day saying he was kidnapped。The attitudes of the wealthy kids in the book bothered me; they were "owed multiple yachts" etc。 In the beginning of the book, that was getti Rhonda Bird gets a phone call from an attorney in California that she needs to meet with him asap。 Rhonda's father is dead and she has been named guardian of her half-sister that she was not aware of。 The story is about some of their antics as they get to know each other including a friend of Baby's (the sister) who shows up one day saying he was kidnapped。The attitudes of the wealthy kids in the book bothered me; they were "owed multiple yachts" etc。 In the beginning of the book, that was getting to me but as the story developed, it got bette。r 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Rhonda has just learned her father died, and she now has a 15 yo half-sister to take custody of。 Seems simple, except her father was involved in some shady business with a drug cartel and now she also has $3 million in cash and drugs to worry about。

I find James's books very easy to read, this is the first one I've read where he was the co author。 It's a 4。5 start really, enjoyable enough and like the characters of the two sisters although didn't buy into the ending。 I find James's books very easy to read, this is the first one I've read where he was the co author。 It's a 4。5 start really, enjoyable enough and like the characters of the two sisters although didn't buy into the ending。 。。。more

IntriguingI have always been a James Patterson fan。 This kept my attention, it was interesting, funny and I can't wait for the next one。 Rhonda is tiff and hilarious and has her hands full with Baby。 Can't wait to see what is next for them。 IntriguingI have always been a James Patterson fan。 This kept my attention, it was interesting, funny and I can't wait for the next one。 Rhonda is tiff and hilarious and has her hands full with Baby。 Can't wait to see what is next for them。 。。。more

Rhonda Bird gets a call that her estranged father has died and she has to resolve things in LA。 A surprise sister and violent teenagers await。 A fast-paced, fun book。

Lynn Brown

I loved this book。 The older sister was a great well developed character。 Great personality, easy to relate to。 After her fathers death she finds out she has a sister and has been made her guardian。 Plenty of action in this one。 A group of teenagers, who harass and torment people they think have slighted them, take it to far one night and that person comes after them。 Fast paced from the first page。

amy Smith

Goodreads! It was a fun twisty turvy type of mystery that always kept you guessing。 I would definitely recommend this book!

Loved this so much。 I think this is my favorite pairing with James Patterson。 I love the other series with Harriet blue but I really can’t wait for more with these characters。 Such fun! I’m going to try more by Candice Fox。

A little implausible, but entertaining and easy to read。

Fast paced, crazy & a whole lot funRhonda is an attorney for kids who get into trouble with the law。 Abandoned by her father years ago, she’s shocked to find out that she has a younger sister。 Rhonda is now responsible for Baby who is a big handful。 Thrown into a world of murder, drug dealers, and a psychopath or two, Rhonda has to make the best of the situation。 A very enjoyable read!

Barbara

So good and funny!

I enjoyed this book and really like the character of Rhonda。 I did not enjoy the amount of fat shaking though :(

Sheila

Loved this book! Unusual mix of characters, great plot, twists right to the end。 Surprised who survives the story line。

I normally love James Patterson but this one was little too unbelievable。 Many times I thought “ya, right”。 Lots of action but the flow was off for me。 Baby & friends seem a little young for their storyline and the constant reference to Rhonda’s weight gets old quickly。

3-3。5 starsFirst, I have to address the "fat shaming" review comments: As a gal who's struggled with weight issues and has been firmly in the "fat" category more times than I'd like to say, Rhonda's internal monologue and observations are right on。 And yes, that's how people still talk to and think of "fat" people。 (Fat is in quotes, because it's relevant to the person。 To a size -5, a size 2 could be "fat"。) Let's face it, in the PC world, fat is still a prejudicial characteristic。 If you doubt 3-3。5 starsFirst, I have to address the "fat shaming" review comments: As a gal who's struggled with weight issues and has been firmly in the "fat" category more times than I'd like to say, Rhonda's internal monologue and observations are right on。 And yes, that's how people still talk to and think of "fat" people。 (Fat is in quotes, because it's relevant to the person。 To a size -5, a size 2 could be "fat"。) Let's face it, in the PC world, fat is still a prejudicial characteristic。 If you doubt me, look at any online dating site - the male profiles。 Most say something to the effect of "weight must be proportionate to height" but the meaning is crystal clear。 However, I agree that feedback to the Authors is a good thing。 It signals that Readers would like future books to minimize the fat shaming。 But Rhonda is still going to have her own internal monologue, which she would say is realism, and she'll always get at least one Once Over Fat Look, but we don't have to read it on every page。OVERALL, I enjoyed this book。 Yes, there are ramblings。 Yes, the book might seem all over the place, but that's the beauty of it - it brings it all together, fuses these disparate ideas and actions into a whole。 Any frustrations I felt were "good" frustration, because they only made me want to read more to get to the end。 To solve the puzzles and answer the questions。Remember, this is a 1st book。 It's purpose is to set the scene, build the world, and introduce us to the main characters (Rhonda, Baby), and set us up for the cases yet to come。 Obviously, a main theme is the tension between Rhonda and Baby, and while it might be frustrating at times, remember that Baby is 15 years old and that Rhonda is still dealing with her own Daddy-issues because Daddy wasn't there。 Both are mourning a Dad and trying to reconcile 2 very different people who are thrown together。 Throw in finding out more about their Dad's active involvement with a drug cartel, a duffle of drug money and drugs, and acquaintances with major people problems, and wow!The characters are odd, yes, but fascinating。 I can be a harsh critic, and I didn't catch any continuity errors (changes in names or descriptions, for example) or other errors (logic, grammar, etc。) that interfered with my enjoyment of the story。I also NEVER considered skipping to the last chapter, which is something I do when I'm bored or not sure if the book I'm reading is worth it。 I read too many books to waste time on something I don't want to read。 And in most cases, skimming thru or to the end shows me that I didn't need to slog through all those pages anyway。Is it perfect? No, there's room for improvement。 If James Patterson's name were the only one on the cover, I'd be disappointed。 But it's not。 So I'm willing to give book 2 a read。 Not every book hits it out of the park。 This book is a good start to a new series。 。。。more

Entertaining easy read。 Not sure the ending was appropriate。

Monica

It was your typical fast paces crime drama, but this one had so much humor woven in as well。 I thoroughly enjoyed every page。

Mary

I really enjoyed this book。 It was fast paced with quirky characters。 Ronda could have been a bitter, unpleasant personality, given her childhood and weight issues, but she’s a nice person and bold and clever。 The scenes with the teenagers were interesting and part of the story, but I hope they are unrealistic。 Never having been, or even known, any Uber-rich LA teens, I can’t be sure。 I hope there will be another book, a series。

Judy

I read this so fast。 It grabbed me from the beginning!

I have not read a James Patterson book in a very long time。 No reason, I just have so many books on my TBR。 I really enjoyed this book。 A wild attorney long estranged from her father gets a call that he has died。 She is told that she MUST come for the resolution of the estate。 She gets a big surprise and chaos ensues!!! It involves drug lords, a hit man, a group of hoodlums turned murderers, some weight lifters and so much more。 Loved it。 Pretty sure there is going to be another and I really can I have not read a James Patterson book in a very long time。 No reason, I just have so many books on my TBR。 I really enjoyed this book。 A wild attorney long estranged from her father gets a call that he has died。 She is told that she MUST come for the resolution of the estate。 She gets a big surprise and chaos ensues!!! Overall a good book but not really like a typical Patterson drama。 The thing I disliked was the constant reference to one characters weight

I was really looking forward to reading this。。。but I stopped halfway through the second chapter。 Maybe I will try again。。。but it felt tedious to read。
