Not my favorite Dr。 King biography。 It's written down to be understandable for kids but takes out all the interesting things。 Definitely better for small group or independent reading than read aloud。 The photos were high-interest at least。 Not my favorite Dr。 King biography。 It's written down to be understandable for kids but takes out all the interesting things。 Definitely better for small group or independent reading than read aloud。 The photos were high-interest at least。 。。。more

The pictures are a mixture of drawings and photographs with captions giving more insight into the life of Dr。 Rev。 MLK Jr。 Although the book's title does not use his entire title, the book does give thorough enough showcasings of how Mr。 King came to earn his titles Reverend and Doctor。 One aspect of the book I would change is that it uses language that suggests racism was simply between black and white people。 Therefore, as I read the book to my students, I made sure to note that it wasn't just black people who were discriminated against, but Hispanics, Asians, and other people of color。 In addition, Mr。 King fought for more than racial rights, but gender and ability as well。 It is, of course, difficult to include everything in a biography; however, Jazynka was able to do a fine job。 。。。more

Dr。 Martin Luther King JR is an introductory book about Dr。 King life。 It provides the major themes that Dr King underwent to help make laws so black people will have equal rights。 The book also list a timeline of events that Dr。 King was involved in during the early 50s to his death。 The book ends with a picture of the national memorial in Washington, D。C。I would use this book during black history month as Dr。 King made a great impact on our world。

I read this book to my Firsties in honor of MLK, Jr。 day, the upcoming African American History month and for an introduction to informative writing and biographies。 This book nicely suits all of these bills。 Plenty of pictures and it kept their interest for over a half hour, which is saying a lot when dealing with six and seven year olds。
