Summary

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and pass。 What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow。

Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time。

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend。 Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again。 In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance。 What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow。

When The Two Rivers is attacked by Trollocs-a savage tribe of half-men, half-beasts- five villagers flee that night into a world they barely imagined, with new dangers waiting in the shadows and in the light。

Fantastic World building。 Glad the Amazon Series sent me back to the originals。

¡Me encantó! Esta historia está llena de acción, aventura y magia。 Un mundo sumamente complejo y extenso lleno de misterio e intriga, aquí nada es lo que parece y la magia parece más maldición que bendición。 Muero de ganas de leer las otras entregas de la saga。

This was a very long read but understandable as there was so much world building required。 I would really like it in future books if they limit the amount of maps to less than 5 per book。

Here we goooooo first review of 2022!I'm conflicted on this book。 I saw a lot of fans and a lot of criticism of this book, but thought it was a good idea to start。 First thing's first: the world building was really cool。 I like where it's going, but had to suffer about 50% of the book before things really picked up。 Which is saying something, given the number of pages。 This is one of those books that I think is easier to get through as an audiobook。 There was a lot of running around (trying not Here we goooooo first review of 2022!I'm conflicted on this book。 I saw a lot of fans and a lot of criticism of this book, but thought it was a good idea to start。 First thing's first: the world building was really cool。 I like where it's going, but had to suffer about 50% of the book before things really picked up。 Which is saying something, given the number of pages。 This is one of those books that I think is easier to get through as an audiobook。 There was a lot of running around (trying not to die, so fair) but it was really boring until sometime after the first half of the book。 I'm intrigued enough to go to book 2 and see where it goes from here, but I can't say that I loved it or would recommend it to a friend。。。 。。。more

I wish 2。5 was an option。 It was good enough that I finished it, mostly hoping that it would get better。 However I have no desire to read the rest of the series other than to read the parts that Brandon Sanderson wrote。

Wow - so glad I choose this book to take me back to reading high fantasy。 Its amazing! Intricately plotted, a hugely immersive world and a cast of characters - both fringe and central - that just leap off the page。 Brilliant! Intersecting time lines, arduous journeys, fantastical quests, special powers, epic battles and a host of intelligent cats - it has it all。 With so so many fab books in the world - im not sure I'll read the next 13 in the series - each at 800+ pages。。。。。but I might! 4。5。 I found this amazing and better written than Game of Thrones。 Late to the party I know! (Thanks for the recommendation, Jaron)。Richly developed world, characters you love and love to hate。。。can't wait to go on to the next。Note: the tv series is a faithful, if condensed version of the book。 Some characters and locales have been removed, but besides Perrin and the battle at the eye, everyone is fairly true to character thus far。 4。5。 I found this amazing and better written than Game of Thrones。 Late to the party I know! 3。5-very very slow start and then about 75% of the way through the story seemed to finally start to come out。 There are a lot of stereotypical fantasy tropes that seem a bit cliche now, however, I know this book was published in the early 90's and the genre has changed so I'm trying to read it through the lens of the time and if this was introduction to fantasy I would be hooked。 Looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds, not looking forward to the fact that it took 14 books to do so。 3。5-very very slow start and then about 75% of the way through the story seemed to finally start to come out。 There are a lot of stereotypical fantasy tropes that seem a bit cliche now, however, I know this book was published in the early 90's and the genre has changed so I'm trying to read it through the lens of the time and if this was introduction to fantasy I would be hooked。 Looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds, not looking forward to the fact that it took 14 books to do so。 。。。more

I'm very much trying to give this series a fair shake but the first book is slow。 It was kind of a chore to get through。 I liked the characters and some of the events, great world building but again, the pace is molasses and was hard to stay focused on。 I'm very much trying to give this series a fair shake but the first book is slow。 It was kind of a chore to get through。 I liked the characters and some of the events, great world building but again, the pace is molasses and was hard to stay focused on。 。。。more

this review comes from a person who has watched the tv show before reading the first book in this epic fantasy series。i don't think i could've started this year with better book than the eye of the world。 after binging the whole tv show and desperately waiting for each episode every friday morning, i decided to read this book series because i was very interested in robert jordan's world thanks to its uniqueness。robert jordan's language is unique and i really liked it。 the whole book is written f this review comes from a person who has watched the tv show before reading the first book in this epic fantasy series。i don't think i could've started this year with better book than the eye of the world。 after binging the whole tv show and desperately waiting for each episode every friday morning, i decided to read this book series because i was very interested in robert jordan's world thanks to its uniqueness。robert jordan's language is unique and i really liked it。 the whole book is written from rand's pov but after some 300 pages we can see also perrin's or nynaeve's。 honestly, i'm not a big fan of rand and i don't like mat or egwene。 their personalities weren't well developed。 i was quite dissapointed when i finished this book and there were very few scenes about aes sedai or the one power, i hope robert changed that。 my favourite character was moiraine, but also, she weren't playing a big role in the first book so i was a little sad。 overall, i really enjoyed a lot of chapters but there were some (and not few) slow paced chapters i wanted to skip cause i wasn't paying much attention to the plot or his heavy descriptions。 this book isn't for begginers who want to start with fantasy genre。 i rate this book 4/5 and i'm looking forward to read the rest of the books from robert jordan。 。。。more

My first read of 2022This series is phenomenal!!! I now know why people rave about it。 It started of slow for me and slugged through the middle but it had me flying through the end of the book。 If you're finding it hard to finish, just stick with it and it will pay off。 I can see how there are 14 books in the series cause I now would gladly read 14 books to follow along with Rand, Perrin, Mat, Nynaeve, and Egwene's journey。 Can't wait to read book 2 My first read of 2022This series is phenomenal!!! Just finished the first step on my WoT journey。 Overall I have to say I loved it, it is pretty daunting and there’s a lot to take in but I loved the world building and the hints of what is to come。 Some criticisms I’ve seen browsing through other reviews is that it’s a drag but I didn’t find that at all。 I loved the slightly leisurely pace and the time spent in each of the various locations。 I wouldn’t say the characters are a strength of the book but there’s 13 more books to go so I expect them Just finished the first step on my WoT journey。 Overall I have to say I loved it, it is pretty daunting and there’s a lot to take in but I loved the world building and the hints of what is to come。 Some criticisms I’ve seen browsing through other reviews is that it’s a drag but I didn’t find that at all。 I loved the slightly leisurely pace and the time spent in each of the various locations。 I wouldn’t say the characters are a strength of the book but there’s 13 more books to go so I expect them to grow on me as I continue。 I’m unsure how the series will unfold from here knowing there is so much still to get through but am excited to find out。 。。。more

3。5I couldn’t stand Jordan’s writing, too plain and inexpressive to carry me on fully loving the characters。 the protagonists have their peculiarities, but sometimes they didn’t express themselves full-size in my head, because the writing style sounded so stiffed。 The world was not fully explained and it was a good choice of narrative, BUT the pacing was off, many times: big events in few pages and a lot of nothing in the rest of the book。 A bonus for Loial and Perrin, I really liked them。 I was 3。5I couldn’t stand Jordan’s writing, too plain and inexpressive to carry me on fully loving the characters。 the protagonists have their peculiarities, but sometimes they didn’t express themselves full-size in my head, because the writing style sounded so stiffed。 The world was not fully explained and it was a good choice of narrative, BUT the pacing was off, many times: big events in few pages and a lot of nothing in the rest of the book。 A bonus for Loial and Perrin, I really liked them。 I was a little bit concerned about the sanity of Mat’s decisions throughout the first part of the book, but I really appreciate his character。 Sadly I did not love Rand, nor I was interested in his storyline and it was a huge letdown at the end。 Now I’m feeling the strong urge to reread Tolkien’s work, much superior to this one。 。。。more

Keyifle okudum, diline alışmakta ilk başlarda zorlandım。 Alıştıktan sonra da epik bir şey okuduğum hissine kapıldım hep。 Diziyi izlemek yerine kafamdaki hayalleri oynatmak daha fazla keyif verdi。 Fantastik roman ihtiyacınızı fazlasıyla doyuruyor。

I've finished the book only from the second try after fetting an inspiration from the Amazon series。 I think that I gave up the first time because of lack of my English understanding and was wondering away during the book's environment descriptions requiring advanced lexis。I've started the book because of the promise of a cool hard magic system。 So I was a bit dissapointed with the beginning of the book because it focused more on day-to-day stuff: hunting, village celebrations, travelling hardsh I've finished the book only from the second try after fetting an inspiration from the Amazon series。 I think that I gave up the first time because of lack of my English understanding and was wondering away during the book's environment descriptions requiring advanced lexis。I've started the book because of the promise of a cool hard magic system。 So I was a bit dissapointed with the beginning of the book because it focused more on day-to-day stuff: hunting, village celebrations, travelling hardships, bargaining, finding a place to live。 Those are interesting but not something I've expected。I was really hooked toward the middle/end of the book where a big chunk of the lore was shared with the reader。 It is quite interesting and I finished the rest of the book almost in one go。 。。。more

I have mixed feelings。 On the one hand, I loved the book right up to around Chapter 35。 After that, I found I had trouble focusing on the story。 I'm thinking I'm just not in the head space to read and fully enjoy Jordan's writing right now, much as I don't think I'd be able to fully enjoy Tolkien right now。 Does not detract from how amazing the Wheel of Time's world and characters are, but it does make me rank this book lower (on a scale of 10, I'd give it a 6。5-7) just because I struggled so mu I have mixed feelings。 On the one hand, I loved the book right up to around Chapter 35。 After that, I found I had trouble focusing on the story。 I'm thinking I'm just not in the head space to read and fully enjoy Jordan's writing right now, much as I don't think I'd be able to fully enjoy Tolkien right now。 Does not detract from how amazing the Wheel of Time's world and characters are, but it does make me rank this book lower (on a scale of 10, I'd give it a 6。5-7) just because I struggled so much to get through the last part。 Overally, I'd still definitely recommend the read if you like fantasy。 Whilst there are some similarities to the LOTR (the Eye of The World was heavily inspired by Tolkien, after all), I don't think it's fair at all to call this a rip-off, or even too similar。 There were maybe two moments in the book where the similarities smacked me in the face, but they didn't detract from the story or the book overall, in my opinion。 It's an amazing introduction to a really rich and interesting world, and I can't wait to read the next book in this series! 。。。more

Story is exciting and we'll written。 I like that you get different points of view。 This book has some really sexist undertones that really soured my enjoyment of this book。 Female characters are always objectified when descriptions and they all seem to have the same personality and stereotypical female character traits。 Story is exciting and we'll written。 I like that you get different points of view。 This book has some really sexist undertones that really soured my enjoyment of this book。 Female characters are always objectified when descriptions and they all seem to have the same personality and stereotypical female character traits。 。。。more

Like many people, I picked this up after watching the TV series。 I read this, and several others in the series, about twenty years or so ago, but decided to revisit it。 It wasn't as great as I remembered, but I enjoyed it。 I would have liked to enjoy it more than I did, but it is what it is。What Robert Jordan did well was world build。 I really enjoyed the slower pacing (for the most part) as I got to take in the world he was creating and the people he was populating it with。 I enjoyed the effort Like many people, I picked this up after watching the TV series。 I read this, and several others in the series, about twenty years or so ago, but decided to revisit it。 It wasn't as great as I remembered, but I enjoyed it。 I would have liked to enjoy it more than I did, but it is what it is。What Robert Jordan did well was world build。 I really enjoyed the slower pacing (for the most part) as I got to take in the world he was creating and the people he was populating it with。 I enjoyed the effort that went into the whole building process, and just wished he could have put more effort into character building。 The ones he has appear interesting, until you get to meet them proper。 Then they are shown as what they are: one dimensional with a glimmer of hope at being something more。In all fairness, that tends to be mostly a main character flaw。 The people they meet in passing seem interesting, but that could only be because we don't get to meet them for too long。 I started off thinking 'oooh, bit rude' when Lan would call Rand 'Sheepherder' or Perrin 'Blacksmith' when he clearly could have just used their names。 But, to be fair to the chap, they didn't have much else going for them。 He could have called Rand 'Selfish, self-obsessed brat' 。。。 but Sheepherder is probably a tad more diplomatic。As main characters I struggled to like anyone other than Tom。 Lan and Moiraine were close seconds。 He had some flare to him whereas the rest had their one thing and precious little else to call their own or cling to。 Or were just selfish, annoying and unlikeable as far as main characters went (in all fairness, this is more of a 'people from the Two Rivers' trait than a general thing)。 It didn't make the story bad to read, just made me feel a bit 'meh' as far as character depth went。The story itself was fairly straight forward。 Three lads may just be the one person who can destroy the dark one, but they aren't sure which so all of them have to go along for the ride。 The actual main plot was good, but everything else felt a little like Jordan was desperate to make it an 'epic fantasy' rather than just a 'fantasy'。 The same formula of 'go to place, meet random person who just happens to be important and can tell you more about the world' is repeated constantly。 So much so that, whenever characters approach a new place, you're not so much thinking 'what will happen next' as you are 'well, which of these people will be the next font of information'。I'll no doubt carry on with the series, but it'll be a 'when the next tv series comes out' kind of thing rather than rushing out to get it now。The narration was fantastic。 Rosamund plays Moiraine in the TV series, so having her voice this was a great touch。 Top marks as far as narration is concerned。 She really gives it some oomph when a character has to shout。 Proper caught me off guard。 But that's what you get when you ask an actress to act :) Hopefully she voices the rest! The TLDR is basically: good world building, meh characters, repetitive plot devices, awesome narration。 。。。more

I certainly have criticisms about aspects of the book and understands others’ criticisms but it’s just such a fun time reading this series。 I read it when I was a teenager and loved it and I’m falling in love all over again!
