There’s little I like more than snuggling up with a real page-turner, and Sunrise certainly fits the bill。 This is a book you’re going to want to read immediately, so clear your calendar and plan to order dinner, because putting the book down isn’t going to happen。 Sunrise is definitely another Warren winner!I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

And when he finally works out what he really wants in life, will it be too late?I don't think this author's ever produced a 'dud' yet as far as I'm concerned, and this looks like the start of an exciting new series。 As is typical of this author, the romance is fully resolved in this book (I don't think that counts as a spoiler, really!), but there are various hints of something going on behind the scenes that presumably will be built into a fuller picture and resolved in future books。 And for what it's worth, I don't think I've ever come across a worse ending line。。。 Nevertheless, I loved the way that Dodge and Echo's pasts were gradually unfolded, and the way they slowly built their relationship into something that could last。 All in all, it's really well written and held my attention throughout (once I increased the print size - it felt much smaller than most books I read, for some reason?), and I'm really looking forward to books 2 and 3。 Highly recommended。Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley。 I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book。 。。。more

An enjoyable book by an excellent author。 When I read this author's book, I know it will always have the right combination of adventure, romance and life lessons。Echo and Dodge have been in each others lives since they were kids, and apart from an embarrassing episode when they were teenagers, they have gone on to make their mark in the world, separately。 Unfortunately, there are some not-nice people who are wrecking havoc with their part of the world and this can't continue。I have never been to An enjoyable book by an excellent author。 When I read this author's book, I know it will always have the right combination of adventure, romance and life lessons。Echo and Dodge have been in each others lives since they were kids, and apart from an embarrassing episode when they were teenagers, they have gone on to make their mark in the world, separately。 Unfortunately, there are some not-nice people who are wrecking havoc with their part of the world and this can't continue。I have never been to Alaska but I certainly want to go there now! The author invites the reader to focus on the miracles we do see God performing, as we come to recognize that God sees all the pieces and outcomes that we cannot。 Where we focus on the bad in a situation, God may be protecting us in a way we are unaware of。For me, the Proverbs 16 verse fits this theme, in its treatment of God’s Sovereignty, generally speaking, and in its allusion to the way we think our lives should go。 When we think we have our lives perfectly planned, God often surprises us– and we don’t always like those surprises! But He is the One in control and is working all things together in ways that we can’t begin to comprehend。In direct alignment with Prov。 16:9, Dodge, the male protagonist, learns to seek the Lord’s will, rather than chasing down his own dreams。What I LikedThis is, to my knowledge, the first full-length novel I have read that takes place in Alaska, and I feel that Warren does a good job crafting a balanced, realistic picture of the setting。 Several of the characters in Sunrise are homesteaders and while I certainly did not envy their lifestyle, I did get to step into the shoes of the characters who feel so at home in a place that is so foreign to me。 The book captures some of the harsh realities of the cold climate (a big “no thank-you!” for me), but also highlights the beauty of the setting。 As a reader, I had the opportunity to glimpse the wonder of the aurora borealis and to hear about the rebirth of hope after a long, freezing winter。I enjoyed reading about the homesteading lifestyle。I liked Barry Kingston, Dodge’s dad (even though Dodge bothered me at points)。 Barry was a loving, gentle father who taught his children about God’s love and continued to instruct them with godly counsel。Charlie, Echo’s father, was also pretty neat because of his determination to protect the local bears from creepy poachers。I really appreciated the overt spiritual content。 There are multiple instances where Barry talks to either Dodge or Echo about God, and I can recall at least one of these conversations lasting for several pages。 However, the dialogue doesn’t feel forced and unnatural。 Instead, it melds well with the narrative, as Barry interacts with the other characters in a personal way, speaking into their current place in life, rather than rambling off a sermon he heard at church。In addition to the discussion about God’s Sovereignty, there are very clear messages about forgiveness and redemption, which really grounded the novel for me, especially because Sunrise is, largely, a romance。Romantic ContentThe romance centers around two best friends, Dodge and Echo, whose brief romance ended ten years prior to the start of the novel。 There are multiple kissing scenes, as well as some internal discussion about the passion that the characters are feeling for one another and how the physicality is contributing to those feelings。 For me, it was a bit intense。While it was somewhat ambiguous, it appeared to me that the characters were coming from different places, spiritually, as there’s a reference to “your God,” just after one of the kissing scenes。Additionally there were a few lines scattered throughout that hinted of the characters’ finding fulfillment in one another。 One such line described the love interest in terms of light, which made me really uncomfortable, because Jesus is the light。 While the redemption theme was also strong, I don’t endorse the idea that a person can be our fulfillment。Additional ContentThere is some violence, throughout the novel, as well as some hard things happening to animals。 For me, personally, neither of these were “over the top” (However, my main area of sensitivity is to romantic content/purity)。Recommendation StatusI would recommend this title, with reader discretion, due to the romantic content/themes。 For me, the spiritual content was strong and redemptive, making for a worthwhile read。 Recommended to readers who enjoy romance and suspense– in that order。 。。。more

And I always admire how she delivers a spiritual message in such a natural, genuine, non-preachy way!Echo Yazzie, an Alaskan homesteader and dogsledder, has always embraced hope that her childhood love will someday return, and forgive her for rejecting him all those years ago。 When, at eighteen, she rejected his unexpected marriage proposal, she never imagined all the things that would consequentially happen, least of all his leaving, with a broken family in his trail。 But when Dodge finally comes back, she never expects the bitter, unforgiving version of him。 She’s definitely not over him, but is he over her? Does it matter, if she’s bound to caring for her father who, after her mother left them, needs her near him?Dodge Kingston was supposed to be the heir to the Sky King Ranch someday。 But after a painful heartbreak that involved his brother, he chose to enlist in the army without saying goodbye。 Now, ten years later, after his father has a flying accident, he returns to his family’s ranch at his sister’s plea for help, to take care of his father and the ranch, while he mends。 But there’s a big grudge he has with his father, that he has never forgiven。 Not to say about his broken heart that is supposedly healed by now, but stutters crazily every time he sees Echo。 He’s vowed to not get near his old flame, but when Echo is in danger, looking for her friend lost in the woods, with a blizzard and a grizzly on the wake, he realizes he’s not so over Echo。 But can she keep her safe, and can she forgive him for leaving and being so unforgiving? There were so many amazing things about this book。 One of them was the way she describes the incredible Alaskan landscape and wildlife。 I felt as if I was in a movie, and almost felt the chills of the freezing weather。 She’s an amazing writer。 Another, is the way the plot never dragged, Echo and Dodge were constantly facing different dangers, and there was always the mystery of finding Peyton, the dogs, uncovering poachers, etc。 Then, there was the romance, oh so sweet, yet so full of attraction and so deep。 Swooning! And best of all was the message behind the character’s struggles: the need to forgive, even when the other person may not deserve it, the freedom of letting grudges go and give a second chance, letting go of the fear of making mistakes, of being hurt in the process, the trust in God that can bring good out of bad things, the Unconditional Love of God to each of us, in spite of our mistakes, among others。 Beautifully portrayed。I also loved the secondary characters, especially Dodge’s dad, who was so full of wisdom。 Actually, the quotes that impacted me are mostly from him。 Like: “Forgiveness isn’t for the person you’re forgiving…It’s for yourself。 It’s what you do to be set free。”All in all, a fantastic story that will give you a book hangover for a while, and that I will definitely reread。Absolutely recommended! You won’t be able to put it down! Sunrise by Susan May Warren introduces readers to Sky King Ranch, home base of Sky King Air Services and the three estranged Kingston brothers。 Set in the hearty Alaskan bush, which felt completely foreign to this Florida girl, the narrative captured the beauty of the land with vivid descriptions and Echo’s adoration of the area。 Furthermore, the novel’s cover conveyed the enchantment of this rugged, amazing land。If I were to describe Sunrise in one word, it would be tense。 The first chapter bri Sunrise by Susan May Warren introduces readers to Sky King Ranch, home base of Sky King Air Services and the three estranged Kingston brothers。 Set in the hearty Alaskan bush, which felt completely foreign to this Florida girl, the narrative captured the beauty of the land with vivid descriptions and Echo’s adoration of the area。 Furthermore, the novel’s cover conveyed the enchantment of this rugged, amazing land。If I were to describe Sunrise in one word, it would be tense。 The first chapter brings the reader straight into the Kingston family strife。 There’s a romantic pull between Echo and Dodge, but both have emotional angst brewing down deep。 As the plot progresses, the characters contend with the elements of nature and experience life-and-death moments。 While this constant strain held my attention to the story, the plot felt formulaic at times。 Fortunately, a thread about the need to give and receive forgiveness seeped into the hearts of the characters and added a nice layer of character development。Sunrise commences Susan May Warren’s Sky King Ranch series。 It mentions characters from the author’s other novels, but reads as a stand-alone novel。 I love the way the author has created this entire fictional community among her books。 Sunrise will likely appeal to Christian romance readers looking for an entertaining suspense novel。Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this book by the author or publisher。 All opinions in this review are my own。 。。。more

I loved going into the wilds of Alaska as I got to know Echo and her father - and some of the other homesteaders and townspeople in their area of Alaska。 And that's what I love about a good fiction book like this - I can read it and become so immersed that I feel like I'm there with them。。。 almost。 I came away with admiration for anyone who lives in Alaska for any length of time。。。Echo, Dodge and supporting characters were complex and well developed。 I love a good ending and yet, it left me want I loved going into the wilds of Alaska as I got to know Echo and her father - and some of the other homesteaders and townspeople in their area of Alaska。 And that's what I love about a good fiction book like this - I can read it and become so immersed that I feel like I'm there with them。。。 almost。 I came away with admiration for anyone who lives in Alaska for any length of time。。。Echo, Dodge and supporting characters were complex and well developed。 I love a good ending and yet, it left me wanting to know more about their family and friends。 - Already looking forward to the next book! 。。。more

4。5 stars!Characters: I don’t know how Susan May Warren does it, but she always creates great characters。 They seem like real people with real feelings and problems。 I enjoyed reading both Echo’s and Dodge’s perspectives。 Language: Clean。Moral: Why does my brain tend to go blank when I get to this section? I need to start taking notes or something。 Anyway … A couple of the morals that I do remember were forgiveness and hope。 Plot: I have no idea why this book is labeled “contemporary romance。” I 4。5 stars!Characters: I don’t know how Susan May Warren does it, but she always creates great characters。 They seem like real people with real feelings and problems。 I enjoyed reading both Echo’s and Dodge’s perspectives。 Language: Clean。Moral: Why does my brain tend to go blank when I get to this section? "It's love breaking through。""Sunrise" is many things。 It's a really good book by a beloved author of numerous titles, it's also a dare to forgive, even when you understandably don't want to, it's most certainly a reminder that God's plans are often misunderstood just before His providence dawns crystal clear; perhaps best of all, it is a nudge to bask in the sunrise that illuminates even the darkest of skies, "love breaking through"。 Obviously, these life lessons are clothed in flesh and blood。 "It's love breaking through。""Sunrise" is many things。 It's a really good book by a beloved author of numerous titles, it's also a dare to forgive, even when you understandably don't want to, it's most certainly a reminder that God's plans are often misunderstood just before His providence dawns crystal clear; perhaps best of all, it is a nudge to bask in the sunrise that illuminates even the darkest of skies, "love breaking through"。 Obviously, these life lessons are clothed in flesh and blood。 Meet Dodge Kingston, former Air Force hero with uncertain plans, coming back to a place he never expected to return; home。 And Echo Yazzie, who stayed at home to homestead with her father while serving as a research guide in the wide open spaces near Anchorage, Alaska。 She never expected to see Dodge Kingston again 。 。 。 or maybe somewhere deep down inside, a flame of hope remained that their paths might cross once again。 And they did。 Boy, did they ever。 Enjoy this reunion romance with all of its ups and downs, high points and pitfalls, promises and uncertainties。 There's danger around just about every corner, on both land and sky, but the landing 。 。 。 。 the landing is one that was always meant to be, for "what if we judged God by what didn't happen to us?"。 I received a copy of this book from the Baker Publishing Group through Interviews and Reviews。 The opinions stated above are entirely my own。 。。。more

“You’re brave and smart, and in the darkness that can be my life … you’re the sunrise,” Echo confesses in Susan May Warren’s novel, Sunrise。~ What ~Book one of two in the Sky King Ranch series, this three-hundred-and-fifty-two-page paperback targets those who like a Christian contemporary romance rising in remote Alaska。 Containing no profanity, topics of animal injury, physical abuse, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers。 The author’s biography and advertisements are included。I “You’re brave and smart, and in the darkness that can be my life … you’re the sunrise,” Echo confesses in Susan May Warren’s novel, Sunrise。~ What ~Book one of two in the Sky King Ranch series, this three-hundred-and-fifty-two-page paperback targets those who like a Christian contemporary romance rising in remote Alaska。 Containing no profanity, topics of animal injury, physical abuse, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers。 The author’s biography and advertisements are included。In this adventurous tale, ex-military Dodge has grudgingly returned to his family’s ranch to help his father after an accident。 His hurt and pain from the past accelerate when he runs into his true love from ten years ago who broke his heart。 Echo, a dogsledder and true Alaskan woman, believes everyone leaves her until Dodge and she agree to work together to find her friend who they think is lost in the wild。 Both must learn to rely on God and remember He always watches over us。~ Why ~This book keeps the reader engaged while its protagonists use Alaska’s remote resources to survive。 It has plenty of action mixed with a romance revisited from a decade ago。 I appreciated its focus on our plans are not always God’s plans。 The added tamed and untamed animals’ antics were entertaining。~ Why Not ~Some may not like a tale that includes learning how to forgive others and oneself, especially when it involves God’s constant care。 Others may not like reading about the danger of the vast Alaskan terrain and how it can overwhelm those unprepared。~ Wish ~While I greatly appreciated the reference to God always being there for us, I wish the author included trusting Jesus and the eternal plan of salvation。 I prefer all pronouns of God capitalized for reverence。~ Want ~If you enjoy a venturous story of mushing in the Alaskan forests, flying over the pristine snowpack, or staying alive during a blizzard, this romance of two lost individuals finding real love will brighten your soul while promoting God’s protection。 No doubt, you will want to read its sequel to find out what else happens。Thanks to Revell and the author for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review。 。。。more

Dodge and Echo had to work through forgiving family and each other。Dodge was an excellent pilot who basically did search-and-rescue while also holding down his father's air mail routine until he recovered from an accident。 Echo also went out doing search and rescue when a rogue bear started causing trouble and a friend went out of contact while checking her wildlife cameras。 Worse, some poachers were in the same area and didn't want any witnesses to their illegal deeds。 Between storms, missing people, medical emergencies, and attacks, the suspense stayed high throughout the story。 The characters were complex, realistic people, and I cared about what happened to them。Dodge and Echo learned to trust God with the future and that forgiveness brings freedom。 There was no sex or bad language。 Overall, I'd recommend this suspenseful novel。I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley。 。。。more

Wow! I couldn't put it down, it's that good!
