Summary

A Little Mermaid Retelling

A handsome fugitive seeking a marriage of convenience。
A selkie with a lethal kiss sent to seal his fate…

To evade a vicious sea queen’s clutches, selkie Maisie hides on land surviving as a thief。 But when she rescues a human from drowning and illegally brings him to shore, she must answer for breaking fae law。 As punishment, she’ll have to hunt down the man she saved…and kiss him。 But with a kiss that can kill, Maisie’s mission means more than seduction。 It means murder。

Son of a notorious fae-killer, Dorian was never meant to survive the shipwreck that was orchestrated to assassinate him。 Now that he’s on the forbidden fae isle, he’ll do anything to gain citizenship—even marry a fae bride。 Desperate for a hasty marriage, he holds a bridal competition in the isle’s most theatrical city, where displays of frivolity aren’t just encouraged—they’re expected。 And if Maisie can act like a proper debutante and join the pageantry, she’ll get near enough to deliver her fatal kiss。

But getting close to her target brings complications she didn’t expect。 As she pretends to compete for Dorian’s heart, it starts to feel less like an act…and more like falling in love。

If Maisie doesn’t deliver her kiss by sunrise on the last day of the competition, she forfeits her life。 But if she succeeds, Dorian dies。 When the pageant ends, will there be a true victor? Or only death and broken hearts?

ACOTAR meets Bridgerton and The Selection in this standalone fairytale retelling of The Little Mermaid。 If you like enemies-to-lovers romance, bridal contests, and snarky fae royals, then you’ll love this swoon-worthy story in the Entangled with Fae series。

*NOTE this book is upper YA/NA featuring mature situations and some adult language。 The romance is slow burn but leads to moderate steam。

Kiss of the Selkie is a complete stand-alone novel set in the same world as The Fair Isle Trilogy。 Journey back to Faerwyvae or begin your adventure for the first time with this enchanting tale。 Each book in the Entangled with Fae series can be read on its own and in any order。 Happily ever after guaranteed!

This book just couldn't capture me like the other books of this series。Might be because I couldn't relate to Maisie as well as to the other protagonists。 This book just couldn't capture me like the other books of this series。Might be because I couldn't relate to Maisie as well as to the other protagonists。 。。。more

Rating: 4。5 stars This series just keeps getting better and better and Kiss of the Selkie is my favorite so far。 It’s a retelling of the little mermaid and our protagonist Maisie was an interesting take on Ariel。 She was basically a kleptomaniac, but I loved her。 And Dorian was the perfect love interest。 He was broody yet sweet and flirtatious。 I loved watching the two of them connect through to their dark pasts and eventually learn to let people in and find love。 Podaxis was a great supporting Rating: 4。5 stars This series just keeps getting better and better and Kiss of the Selkie is my favorite so far。 It’s a retelling of the little mermaid and our protagonist Maisie was an interesting take on Ariel。 She was basically a kleptomaniac, but I loved her。 And Dorian was the perfect love interest。 He was broody yet sweet and flirtatious。 I loved watching the two of them connect through to their dark pasts and eventually learn to let people in and find love。 Podaxis was a great supporting character as well。 He had his own story arc which really touched my heart。 He was a caring and loyal friend to Maisie and he would honestly do anything for her。 I loved their brotherly relationship。The reason I didn’t give the book five stars is that I felt the beginning and the end of the story were a little long and probably could have been shorter。 But overall I still really enjoyed this novel and I’m very excited to read the next one! A Snow White retelling! Can’t wait to see how the authors puts her own twist on that story! 。。。more

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review。The book started a bit too slow for my liking but soon the pace improved and I couldn’t put it down! I've got this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review。I have to say that I love Tessonja's retellings。 She always makes you root for both characters and up until the last second you don't know who is gonna win or be it。In this book I know that I was rooting for Maisie at first until she started talking to Dorian, because then I started rooting for him but a few chapters later I was rooting for both of them, and then I just kind of switched so it was either Maisie or Dorian or both。By the I've got this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review。I have to say that I love Tessonja's retellings。 She always makes you root for both characters and up until the last second you don't know who is gonna win or be it。In this book I know that I was rooting for Maisie at first until she started talking to Dorian, because then I started rooting for him but a few chapters later I was rooting for both of them, and then I just kind of switched so it was either Maisie or Dorian or both。By the end of the book when you are 99% sure you know who you are rooting for Tessonja is able to put a knife in your gut twist it and laugh while she's doing it。With this book I wasn't really sure how it's gonna end because as a retelling of The Little Mermaid it could have multiple endings。 I've seen a very old movie called The Little Mermaid which was filmed in 1976 and was based on the 1837 fairy tale of The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen。 In that movie The Little Mermaid dies, so I was kind of prepared for her to die but at the same time not, so when I found out how the ending ended I was emotionally not prepared。I have to mention Podaxis! He's the best friend, the spy, the admirer, the brother we all should have! Maisie and Podaxis are friends for a very longer time that eventually they are family and there's nothing one wouldn't do for the other! His ending was well deserved and emotional! I'm so freaking happy we got to see and witness it!Overall this book is a must read as well as all the others by her Majesty Tessonja Odette! My favorite book or rather trilogy is forever gonna be To Carve a Fae Heart but all these retellings have a special place in my heart as well! 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I LOVE a good fairytale retelling。 Kiss of the Selkie is a wonderful Little Mermaid retelling。 I love the heroine in the story。 She has such a snarky Don’t mess with attitude that I loved! The “Prince” is Dorian, at first he is a mystery, didn’t take long to Love him。 It does have a little twist with who the “Ursula “ is in the story。 I love all Tessonja’s books, she definitely did disappoint with this story。

So much of action, adventure, suspense and of course romance。 I love the characters, the plots within plots and of course the writing style。 I cannot wait to read the next book!

Oh, wait, my sister said that once。)The city of Sin and Salvation has the BEST churches。 They auction men! I don’t know how they attract male worshipers, but the women flock to the churches。 Plus, they sponsor beauty pageants。 I love this city district! The mix of tourists, dens of iniquity, churches, bakeries, and nightly theaters make me want to visit, especially after forgoing a vacation for two years。 But there are other interesting characters。 Her BFF is a crab (sorry: fungus fae), her fairy godmother is an aerial acrobat。 My favorite is probably the impersonator。 She acts so evil and mocking, yet I really want a story about her。 She seems so tortured。 And father Viktor: the staid older man who tries to be modern even if modern has passed him by: “Next, let’s hear from Briony Rose and pray to the Almighty her speech will be far less scathing。”* Selkie Robin Hood* Unwitting patrons of the arts 。。。more

Little Mermaid Fae Retelling, where she's actually a Selkie!! Instead of a kiss of true love, she must deliver a deathly kiss, how clever!I am really into selkies and their happy endings。 They got a bad deal with their magic being dependant on their skins。 The classic story of the man who steals a selkie's skin while she's in her beautiful human form, for his selfish perverted reasons, is so disgusting。I enjoyed this one a lot! This book is a fantastic retelling of The Little Mermaid!Maisie is hiding from the evil sea witch by living in the the city of Lumenas。 She has carved out a meager life for herself, but it’s her own。 That is the most important thing to her: to live a life that is her own and under no one’s control。 I like Maisie’s character。 She is somewhat street tough but unable to fight for herself in other ways。 She relies on her companion/best friend to be her protector, sometimes too much。 But she learns and grows and tries to become a better version of herself, even when there are impossible choices to be made。 One of my favorite parts of the book is a certain speech that she gives during the bridal competition。 It is the point when you start to see the changes coming to fruition。Then there is Podaxis。 I’m only going to say that I absolutely love this character and his side story! He is my favorite character in the book and I think you will love him too。Dorian is one of those characters that you think could go either way。 Is he a good guy? Or is he a villain-in-hiding? Do you want to kiss him for real? Or do you really want to plant the kiss of death on him? I like the way Dorian is revealed and we see his true character。I don’t watch the bridal competition shows。 Never have。 So I wasn’t sure if this part of the story would turn me off of the rest of the book。 It didn’t。 In fact, I kind of wish we could’ve seen more POVs in this part of the story so we saw all the behind-the-scenes antics with the other contestants。 I found myself wanting to see the drama。 HAHA The cast of characters here is really good。 One in particular will cause eye rolls and anger, sometimes irrationally so。There are twists and turns and at least one big secret that is surprising。 I like the tension building, character development, and visiting another side of Faerwyvae。 There were tears, more than a couple of times。 If I had one complaint, it would be that I think this story would have been even better told in third person POV。 There is so much that happens in other parts of the story and it would have been a more immersive story if we could have witnessed that。 But it doesn’t take away from my rating or how much I loved this book。 And it probably would’ve added another hundred or so pages。 I don’t mind that but I know a lot of people won’t read a book much over 500 pages。The Little Mermaid is one of my very favorite fairytales。 I think Tessonja has done a great job of retelling the story and putting her own spin on it while sticking to the overall plot of the one we all know and love。I gave this book 5 stars and highly recommend it to fans of NA Fantasy Romance, enemies-to-lovers, Fairytale Retellings, and HEA。 I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series!I was gifted with an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

I love fairytale retellings and I love the fae and once again Tessonja Odette has brought her wonderful writing to life by mixing the two。 The Kiss of the Selkie is her third book in the Entangled with the Fae series and this time she tackles the Little Mermaid and she knocked it out of the park。 Tessoja has managed to incorporate all the aspects that make the Little Mermaid, the Little Mermaid but managed to put a completely new spin on it, making it a new story, a story that is centered on the I love fairytale retellings and I love the fae and once again Tessonja Odette has brought her wonderful writing to life by mixing the two。 The Kiss of the Selkie is her third book in the Entangled with the Fae series and this time she tackles the Little Mermaid and she knocked it out of the park。 Tessoja has managed to incorporate all the aspects that make the Little Mermaid, the Little Mermaid but managed to put a completely new spin on it, making it a new story, a story that is centered on the fae so, of course, I loved it。 The angst, the drama, and the danger, I dare anyone not to love this book。This story is wild。 It's easy to spot the Little Mermaid original details and where Tess got very creative。 There is a princess, Maisie, who is the youngest (of many children) to a Seelie king and likes shiny pretty things, she's a thief。 After we see her running away in the Raven Prince she winds up in the city of Lumenas with her best friend/adoptive brother, Podaxis, who Unseelie form is best described as a crustacean, (Disney version has Sebastian) and works as a thief and lives in a rundown theatre。 Maisie isn't very princess-like, as I said before she's a thief, she likes wearing men's clothes and doesn't like attention and that is just to name a few。 Maisie is actually getting along all on her own and she's doing a darn good job of it considering she has just been wearing her Seelie form for a year。 However, Maisie does have a little bit of nativity to her, for someone who can spin the truth so close to a lie she manages to believe things so easily。 Because she's on the run from a Sea Witch, an assassin queen, she didn't let herself get close to anyone and I enjoyed seeing her evolve through this book。 Maisie is a good person at heart and she doesn't shy away from taking an introspecting look at herself, realizes her mistakes, and recognizes her faults。 I like Maisie a lot, she managed to support herself without ever being out in the world, she had no support from her family but cherished her relationship with her partner in crime, Podaxis。 Their friendship is a treasure, the support they give each other, the banter especially Podaxis complaining was great。 I'm glad that they had each other。The bachelor has come to Lumenas。 This city full of churches, art, theater, and sorts of other entertainment has hit a bridal competition crazy and somehow Maisie has found her way into one, let the hijinks ensue。 Maisie apparently gives as good as she gets when she finds herself in a strange battle with the bachelor from the Church of Saint Lazaro, the same church that stirred the rebellion。 Dorian Ariko is with Saint Lazaro's Order of Strength and is looking for a fae bride。 Dorian was a tough character to read, it was hard to tell how he was feeling or what was going through his head, he was very guarded but it was the moments that he wasn't that made me think I could actually like him and by the end I did。 Dorian manage to pull my heartstrings and took me very much by surprise。 Dorian is kinder than I realize, thoughtful, and caring, and turns out just the right fit for Maisie。A lot of good side characters were in this one。 The other contestants and the residents of the theatre that Maisie lived at all added something to the story。 The side story of Podaxis and Nadia was very interesting and I manage to become very invested in them。 Seeing Maisie who isn't close to anyone other and Podaxis care for Mr。 Tuttle, the theatre owner, was touching, and seeing the sea witch and learning about connections to the previous stories was great。 Not to mention hearing about the isle's history and seeing a couple of familiar faces was fabulous。 I love how interconnected all of Tess's stories are。 The events in the Fair Isle trilogy are still talked brought up in this series but done so in a tasteful way。 Not to mention the updates from the characters in the previous two books。 There is just something so special when everything combines together to encompass everything, it makes for a more detailed world, brings everything to life。Tessonja has done a fantastic job of bringing the Little Mermaid to Farewaye, with all the aspects of the Little Mermaid, a princess, a rescue, a sea witch, and a deadly deal。 With curses and assassins, bridal competition and boxing matches, and fae bargains and brotherhoods, how could I not love the story? And while Tessonja may have had me on the edge of my seat with the angst she more than made up for it with a HEA ending。 Best of all these wonderfully interconnecting stories aren't over with yet。 The next book in the Entangled with the fae once again has a familiar face, someone we met in this one, and best of all it's gonna be a Snow White retelling with a huntsman and everything。 。。。more

Another wonderful retelling in the Entangled with Fae saga。 We first learned about Princess Maisie in Heart of the Raven Prince, but now we get to learn why she ran away。 With clear ties to the Little Mermaid, Maisie is a Selkie, meaning she wears a seal skin in the water for her unseelie form。 The biggest problem with her going in the sea now: Queen Nimue, also known as The Sea Witch (as well as other names), could find her。 While in hiding, she saves Brother Dorian and ensures he gets to the C Another wonderful retelling in the Entangled with Fae saga。 We first learned about Princess Maisie in Heart of the Raven Prince, but now we get to learn why she ran away。 With clear ties to the Little Mermaid, Maisie is a Selkie, meaning she wears a seal skin in the water for her unseelie form。 The biggest problem with her going in the sea now: Queen Nimue, also known as The Sea Witch (as well as other names), could find her。 While in hiding, she saves Brother Dorian and ensures he gets to the Church of Saint Lazaro。 Will she be able to see the man she saved again, and if so, will it be a happy reunion or not? What happens when Nimue finds Maisie? With twists and turns at every point, Kiss of the Selkie is beautifully weaved and tells an amazing story。 I’m excited for the next novel in this saga! 。。。more

A little Mermaid retelling with a mix of Fae, fantasy and fun。 I was so excited to get an Arc of Kiss of the Selkie and it didn't disappoint。We get more of the headstrong Princess Maisie, (who fled in Heart of a Raven Prince) as she hides herself on the streets of Lumenas playing the thief。Maisie is a delightful mix of naive and street smart and her ability to twist the truth allows her all sorts of leeway in the Fae world。It took me a while to warm up to Dorian as his personality doesn't partic A little Mermaid retelling with a mix of Fae, fantasy and fun。 I was so excited to get an Arc of Kiss of the Selkie and it didn't disappoint。We get more of the headstrong Princess Maisie, (who fled in Heart of a Raven Prince) as she hides herself on the streets of Lumenas playing the thief。Maisie is a delightful mix of naive and street smart and her ability to twist the truth allows her all sorts of leeway in the Fae world。It took me a while to warm up to Dorian as his personality doesn't particularly shine straight out。But Podaxas and Nadia are fantastic side characters and even Brother Viktor has his moments。Even though it is a retelling, there are enough twists and turns that you are never bored。 The author has a wonderful way of adding details in that conjure a fully functioning world with vast rich history and culture。 Kiss of the Selkie is a pure delight from start to finish。 。。。more

I have always loved the little mermaid and being able to read a retelling of her was the best, I enjoyed it from beginning to end, I loved the book and as despite being a retelling it still managed to surprise me at certain points, I loved that it has a contest to marry and the way it is tell。 I really enjoyed this book。 I highly recommend it。I receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Great opening (reminded me of The Shadows Between Us!) but overall I found the first half of the book to be incredibly slow。 The second half was quite enjoyable though and the ending was definitely emotional。 I think it's worth a try if you enjoy fairytale retellings, I just wish it was better paced。 Great opening (reminded me of The Shadows Between Us!) but overall I found the first half of the book to be incredibly slow。 The second half was quite enjoyable though and the ending was definitely emotional。 I think it's worth a try if you enjoy fairytale retellings, I just wish it was better paced。 。。。more

I really appreciate this aspect。Also, reader beware, this is a book for young adults and older。 It has a few mature scenes and a couple of uses o the "f" word, if that bothers you。 The language is not at all over the top。 Neither are the mature scenes。 Its just a touch of maturity to warm the blood!I really enjoyed the book and will continue to explore this world! I recommend you jump in and see what makes this series special! 。。。more

Kiss of the Selkie is the third part in a series of fairytale retellings。 In this third installment of the Entangled with Fae series, the story of The little mermaid is retold。Maisie is on the run, but is caught by her stepmother。 She is put into a really difficult dilemma which forces her to do something she would rather not do, in order to save her own life。 Maisie should participate in a contest for the marriage of Dorian, a Fae killer, and she must kiss him so he will die。 Even though Maisie Kiss of the Selkie is the third part in a series of fairytale retellings。 In this third installment of the Entangled with Fae series, the story of The little mermaid is retold。Maisie is on the run, but is caught by her stepmother。 She is put into a really difficult dilemma which forces her to do something she would rather not do, in order to save her own life。 Maisie should participate in a contest for the marriage of Dorian, a Fae killer, and she must kiss him so he will die。 Even though Maisie doesn't want to do this, she has to。 But can she hide her true intentions from Dorian? I really enjoyed this entertaining retelling of the Little Mermaid。 Marie is a funny and caring character。 I loved getting to know Masie in the beginning and seeing what she has to do to survive while in hiding。 Nimue asked her to do the unthinkable and Masie considers it but realizes she can't。 I loved seeing Dorian's and Masies' relationship change slowly throughout the competition。 They learn to trust each other with their secrets。 I love the characters in this book and fou d myself laughing I really enjoyed this entertaining retelling of the Little Mermaid。 Marie is a funny and caring character。 I loved getting to know Masie in the beginning and seeing what she has to do to survive while in hiding。 Nimue asked her to do the unthinkable and Masie considers it but realizes she can't。 I loved seeing Dorian's and Masies' relationship change slowly throughout the competition。 They learn to trust each other with their secrets。 I love the characters in this book and fou d myself laughing throughout。 Podaxis is a great side kick and will do anything for Masie。 Such a great romance with mystery and action。 I love the ending and could have asked for a better one。 。。。more

This book really surprised me。 When I started reading it, I couldn’t imagine that I can really, really enjoy this book- it seemed it was mainly about seal pups and blubber。 Who loves to read about blubber? I give this review freely and of my own volition。 Thank you, Tessonja Odette for gifting me an advanced reader copy。 。。。more

Wow Tessonja out does herself with this retelling of the little mermaid。 I honestly could not put it down。 I throughly enjoyed the story and can’t wait to find out what she has installed next。 I was so lucky to receive a ARC copy for an honest review。 If you love retelling of you favourite princess stories this is a must read。

Yup, I love this series。 The ending kept me up late last night。 I received a review copy and these are my honest thoughts。 This story is the third of a series of fairytale retellings in the author’s fae-meet-Bridgerton style world。 They can all stand alone, but why just read one? Kiss of the Selkie is a Little Mermaid retelling featuring Princess Maisie, whom we met in the last book。 I found Heart of the Raven Prince a tough act to follow, because it was particularly masterful and also my favorite fairy tale, Cinderella。 I was worried Kiss wouldn’t match up to the same standard at first, but was thankfully wrong as the stakes grew more and more tense, until the conclusion was so well done。 Maisie is a selkie, a fae species I want to see more of in fiction。 We have hilarious moments where she admits she likes men with a little “blubber。” When she saves a doomed man from drowning, her mother (the Sea Witch) finds her and forces her into a bargain。 One deadly kiss in exchange for her freedom from ever being called upon to kill someone with a kiss again。 All Maisie has to do is enter a bridal competition, get close to our leading man, Dorian, and deliver her kiss。 My only critique is I found myself wanting to see Maisie from Dorian’s point of view, as the last book shared POVs between the two main characters。 It would have given our little selkie girl more depth to see his reactions to how hot and cold she sometimes seemed。 Beyond that, the author announced not one, but two follow-ups at the end of the book。 This reader is very excited! 。。。more

Tessonja Odette always delivers! This is again an amazing read from A to Z!
