Bizarre Mish-Mash of “Stories”I have reviewed several informational books for children and adults by this author， like trivia and other nonfiction “story” books， and I usually enjoy them。 Unfortunately， I did not enjoy this one as much。 It seemed a little too random at times， and the short article-like “stories” within weren't always truly stories。 For instance， one about road trip games was about some he has done with or learned from his family。 That's not a story。 I thought some history “stori Bizarre Mish-Mash of “Stories”I have reviewed several informational books for children and adults by this author， like trivia and other nonfiction “story” books， and I usually enjoy them。 Unfortunately， I did not enjoy this one as much。 It seemed a little too random at times， and the short article-like “stories” within weren't always truly stories。 For instance， one about road trip games was about some he has done with or learned from his family。 That's not a story。 I thought some history “stories” were far too simplified， even for children， like the story about the Romanovs。 I didn't really find any “stories” to be unbelievable or crazy， as promised in the subtitle。 I felt， too， that the author at times talked down to the child reader， which I never like to see in a children's book。 The book was also a victim of some flabby writing， like far too many of false subject sentence construction （variants of “there is/are/was/were”） and other impersonal passive expressions （like an over-reliance on “it” phrases where the “it” doesn’t refer to a specific noun）。 I also would have loved to see the “stories” grouped by type， like pop culture， world history， and science。 That way， a child who has a particular interest could start with that first。 All in all， I found myself disappointed in this book。 I received a free copy of this book， but that did not affect my review。 。。。more

Wonderful book full of interesting and unusual facts and tidbits of information for kids。 Hours of reading fun for kids。 Also a good resource for anyone who likes trivia as well。 Does not have to be a kid！I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。
